Breaking the hiatus for a short note about something that happened to the Greatest Anime Mankind has EVER Known... it ended today. After 4 amazing years Gintama aired its last episode today, as it had caught up with the manga and was about to run out of stories soon. Official word is that it has ended while rumors say the show will be back again after giving some time for the manga to gain a lead. Either way, rumors are rumors and sad to see that my only hope for anime to stop being merely fap material for teens and finally go mainstream, ended today.

To mark this day, I thought I'd share something that I did for my Japanese loving friends last October(my b'day was due shortly then) - a silly little audio bit talking about odds and ends going on between us back then, but 35 seconds in is what I really want to share - me doing an impression of the most badass hero in the history of human television - Sakata Gintoki a.k.a Gin-san from Gintama. My Japanese is broken at quite a few places(though I'm told I've improved a lot since then) and my impression is nowhere near as cool as the original but I did have fun doing it and I wanted to share this little piece of my silliness to reminisce about the days when an unassuming little show set the anime world on fire, went on for 4 years and 201 absolutely amazing episodes, and in the process raising the bar for entertainment to legendary levels causing Critics and Veterans alike, to silently mouth over and over again... 'This Is The Greatest Anime Mankind Has Ever Known'.

Well, the image may look like a painting at first glance but you’ll very surprised to know that its a photograph of a real woman captured with Canon EOS 50D.

University of Hawaii professor Peter Kun Frary was walking past a cosmetic store where saw a model in full body paint posing against a set. That’s where he shot these awesome pictures using his Canon DSLR.

The picture is served to you straight from the digital camera without any kind of manipulation in Photoshop.

I hope it comes as no surprise that we’re planning, plotting, and otherwise scheming to bring 1Password to the iPad in a big way.

OK, so maybe I’m not surprised, but I am very happy to see this news. 1Password is one of my essential apps now on both the iPhone and my Mac laptop. And even though the screenshots shared at the 1Password blog site are only design mockups, I have to say they’re looking pretty sweet. Another great example of how iPad apps are going to shine I think.

As recently promised, Google has updated Gmail to include a "Buzz" tab, where you can prevent the public from seeing your followers list, remove the Buzz inbox from Gmail, and, as the nuclear option, completely kill your Buzz account
That last link, with the warning sign and red text, completely removes Buzz from your Google Profile, according to its wording. A commenter notes that it might also kill your Google Profile entirely, so be cautious if that's something you want to keep around.

Are you hitting the killswitch on Buzz, merely hiding it from your inbox, or just waiting to see where this social network train ends up taking you? [via PC World]

There are a good number of iPhone apps that are touted as having a large ‘wow factor’; apps that many of us like to show off to friends and non iPhone users. Shazam – the app that lets you quickly identify ‘what’s that song’ just by asking it to listen and analyze for a few moments – is one that’s often cited. Many games probably fit the bill as well – from some of the super clever physics games through to action-packed ones ported across from major gaming platforms.

For a long time now though, it has been clear to me that the one single app that most clearly demonstrates the power and the possibilities of the iPhone is Brushes, the iPhone drawing / painting app. Ironically, I myself cannot draw even a stick figure in a way that would be recognizable to anyone – I am beyond useless at any form of drawing. But I enjoy the heck out of seeing art done by those who have talent for it.

This may be strange -- in fact very strange -- but Imperial Leisure, a marketing and social media firm, has created an advertisement using an iPhone, to promote the sale of Jaffa oranges. They found that with a lot of rods and cable you can use orange power, or rather the power of 2380 Jaffa oranges, to power an iPhone. Talk about thinking outside of the box, or in this case, the crate.

A new website called PleaseRobMe.com does nothing more than aggregate publicly shared check-ins, but its name and purpose attempt to shed more light on the dangerous side effects of location-sharing.
It’s no secret that when you share your location via Google Buzz and Foursquare you’re exposing information that could put you at risk. Many of us location-sharers get so caught up in the novelty and bonuses associated with our behavior that we forget the implications of our actions. PleaseRobMe.com seeks to make us more aware.
While the functionality of the site is minimal at best, the fact that you can view a livestream of check-ins — with data aggregated from Foursquare and Twitter — and filter by location or Twitter name is meant to be a bit jarring.
The point is driven home with the site-wide terminology, which caters to hypothetical would-be burglars. Check-ins are referenced as “recent empty homes” and “new opportunities,” and the name of the site alone is sure to raise a few eyebrows.
The site was created by three enterprising individuals who aren’t really out to get you robbed. Here’s how they describe the problem created by check-ins and the purpose of the site:
“The danger is publicly telling people where you are. This is because it leaves one place you’re definitely not… home. So here we are; on one end we’re leaving lights on when we’re going on a holiday, and on the other we’re telling everybody on the Internet we’re not home. It gets even worse if you have ‘friends’ who want to colonize your house. That means they have to enter your address, to tell everyone where they are. Your address.. on the Internet.. Now you know what to do when people reach for their phone as soon as they enter your home. That’s right, slap them across the face.”
These guys have a legitimate point. Stories about status updates leading to burglaries are becoming commonplace. You may remember that video podcaster Israel Hyman was robbed after tweeting that he was out was out town, and there’s even evidence to support the notion that burglars are turning to social media to find their targets.
So are Foursquare, Loopt, Google Buzz and all the others just sites that make us all easier targets? Location-sharing is becoming such a popular trend this year that it doesn’t seem likely that the site will do much to curb the behavior. If there is such a thing as safe location-sharing, however, we hope you practice it.

Google Buzz Prompts Privacy Investigation in Canada

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada – the same office that prompted major changes at Facebook – is taking a closer look at the privacy implications of Google Buzz. According to CBC News, the office may issue further comment on Wednesday.
With Facebook, the privacy commissioner was concerned about the social networking storing user information after users deleted their accounts, eventually prompting a number of policy and feature changes at the site that have been implemented worldwide.
With Buzz, the investigation presumably focuses on the service’s more controversial aspects – namely, the way in which it automatically finds users to follow based on your email correspondence – a practice that has drawn criticism (and quick feature adjustments by Google) since Buzz debuted in user’s Gmail inboxes last week.
Stateside, the Electronic Privacy Information Center has filed a complaint with the FTC asking them to investigate Buzz, writing that the product “violated user expectations, diminished user privacy, contradicted Google’s privacy policy, and may have violated federal wiretap laws.”
It’s safe to say that this story is far from over. In the meantime, we’re continuing to experiment with Buzz – you can follow us here.

Fresh work from Sylvain Allard's packaging students:
"To begin our session and create a complete immersion in the world of packaging, I invited the students to do this exercise during the first course this year. The two-dimensional sheet of paper takes shape and becomes a volume. Therefore, shadows and light act on the white surface and create an image.
From a single sheet of paper, they should design a label for a bottle of wine. Through manipulation, bending, cutouts, and mechanisms or in repeated patterns and structures, they should create an image consisting solely of paper. All work should explore the potential of the paper and printing was not allowed.
Since it was meant to be an exploration to push the limits of paper. Transportation constraints, marketing and handling were not an endpoint. In contrast, research, innovation, virtuosity, originality and skill were the criteria for evaluation."
