head of the Royal Navy said he was "comfortable" with British forces levels in the Falklands amid a flare-up in tensions with Argentina.<br /></span><br /><span style="font-family:arial;">Admiral Sir Mark Stanhope, the First Sea Lord and Chief of the Naval Staff, said that the defence of the islands was far stronger than it was at the time of the 1982 invasion by Argentina.<br />There were currently 1,000 troops stationed there as well as a number of RAF aircraft, he said, while the Navy had the Type 42 destroyer HMS York, the patrol craft HMS Clyde, the survey ship HMS Scott, and a Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessel in the area.<br /></span><br /><span style="font-family:arial;">"I am comfortable, in terms of the defence of the Falkland Islands, that we have taken this seriously," he said following a speech at the International Institute for Strategic Studies.<br /></span><br /><span style="font-family:arial;">"It is a question of matching the forces that we have with the threat that is there. Since 1982 we have built a massive great runway, we have placed forces on the ground, we have sophisticated early warning systems.<br /></span><br /><span style="font-family:arial;">"It is a
