VAD makes structural changes to enable next stage of growth and further benefit partners

Reading, UK, 21^st July 2016 – Cloud Distribution, the security, networking and storage next-generation value added distributor (VAD), has today announced that it achieved excellent growth in 2015 with revenues increasing by 43% year on year.

Key to the company's success was helping partners increase revenues with existing vendors and signing new disruptive technology vendors to its already impressive portfolio including Aerohive Networks, IgniteNet, Vectra Networks, Check Point, Netskope, Spikes Security, Trusted Knight and Onelogin. Supporting partners with value add partner enablement services that accelerates their go to market strategies, and the launch of an upgraded marketing portal to enable partners to quickly create marketing campaigns for immediate lead generation, have also played a pivotal role in Cloud's growth.

To enable the next stage of its development, Cloud Distribution has changed the structure of the company regards managerial responsibility and the sales and marketing function. These changes will allow Cloud to further grow by placing a greater emphasis on supporting, and improving services, for its channel partners.

Within the senior management team, Greg Harris, Co-Founder, and previously Sales Director, has taken on the new role of Partner Relationship Director focused on implementing the strategic growth plan. Ever since its launch Cloud Distribution has positioned itself as a channel player providing something a bit different with its marketing support for resellers one of the key areas it has looked to stand out.

As well as keeping a fairly focused portfolio around security, networking and from relatively recently also storage, the firm has tried to add value with the approach it takes to partners.

Cloud Distribution becomes first UK distie for security player OpenDNS

Cloud Distribution has continued its vendor-signing streak in 2015, this time agreeing a deal with US security player OpenDNS.

OpenDNS provides cloud-based network security services which harness predictive intelligence to combat malware and attacks that are missed by antivirus software and firewalls.

News that Cloud Distribution has reached a deal to become OpenDNS's first international distributor comes hot on the heels of the VAD's signing of LogLogic and Memblaze.

Cloud Distribution is the first UK distie OpenDNS has taken on, as it launches in the region.

Adam Davison, Cloud Distribution's director, told CRN his firm decided to partner with OpenDNS because it was offering a unique approach to protecting enterprise networks from malware and also because it is complementary to Cloud Distribution's portfolio.

OpenDNS partners with other security vendors such as FireEye and Check Point, and Davison said these partnerships can give the channel "big value". FireEye, for example, integrates with the OpenDNS technology to provide more complete protection from malware, Davison said.

He added that Open DNS can give FireEye and Check Point partners the chance to "gain incremental revenues by wrapping OpenDNS as a value-add".

The reception from Cloud Distribution's partners has been very positive thus far, Davison added.

"We launched it officially to the channel eight days ago, and we are talking to a number of partners who want to sign up to the partner programme already. The reception has been fantastic, and we have already signed up Blue Fort Security, one of the leading RSA partners in the UK."

Davison said he would be looking to sign some of Cloud Distribution's current pool of partners, as well as reaching out to new ones, but said he did not have a specific target in mind for how many he would like to sign up with OpenDNS.

OpenDNS is a provider of cloud-delivered network security services that uses predictive intelligence and analytics on DNS servers. Umbrella, the company’s flagship cloud security suite, is already used by 10,000 businesses worldwide, it says.

Adam Davison, Director at Cloud Distribution is excited about the business potential: “We have already signed several reseller partners in the last week or so. It is very complementary to the other parts of our security and networking portfolios.”

OpenDNS is well established in the US market, and is arguably the largest analyser of data movements outside Google because of the way it monitors DNS calls. Cloud Distribution has been talking to it for over a year, so this is a planned long-term step into Europe.

“It can be sold as a standalone; or as an add-on to existing security or wifi monitoring which merely reports on breaches,” he says. And because it does not require an agent on the client’s devices, it can be sold to IT departments looking to safeguard mobile devices in secure environments.

The target end users will be those enterprises threatened by breaches; it can also be a solution for organisations coming under attack. He cites the attack on the New York Times two years ago, which was a DNS hijack: those accessing the site through OpenDNS got the right site, others were redirected and were sent to an impersonating site.

Also, integrations with FireEye and CheckPoint Software allow partners the ability to extend the threat intelligence found by existing security solutions at the network core and use OpenDNS to protect mobile users and branch offices via integrated APIs. OpenDNS also enables Aerohive and Aruba partners to provide network security for wireless hotspots at customer sites.

Flash storage vendor hopes to secure 12 resellers in the UK through its partnership with Cloud Distribution

Cloud Distribution has signed up flash memory provider Memblaze, which it claims will give it a "better value proposition for the channel".

Memblaze provides high-performance application acceleration cards for server-side storage which aims to improve efficiency in latency – the amount of time it takes to transfer data to and from a drive.

Bruce Hockin, director of Cloud Distribution Storage, said this partnership offers a great opportunity to Cloud Distribution's resellers.

"Our competitors have traditionally gone down the OEM route, which means there is potentially significant market erosion, but we offer great margins for the channel with this product because we have gone down a different route to the market which is more attractive for the channel," he said.

"It's a no-brainer for us and for our partners," he added. "It's a very strong technical proposition and a great value proposition for the channel as well."

Cloud Distribution is Memblaze's first distie signing since it touched down in the UK four months ago.

Ron MacLeod, vice president of business development at Memblaze, said the vendor is hoping to get on board 12 resellers through Cloud Distribution and is looking to sell "99 per cent" through the channel.

"We have partnered with Cloud because they have a long history and association with cloud computing and that's very important for us because our products fit very well into that scenario. Secondly, it is reinforced with the creation of the storage division of Cloud Distribution and it's a very good marriage for us," he said.

Memblaze is looking to expand into Europe and to appoint additional distributors in Europe with a view to secure new partners in France, Italy and Germany, MacLeod added.

Cloud Distribution brings 'disruptive' flash storage vendor Memblaze to UK

Security, networking and storage distributor Cloud Distribution is has added flash memory manufacturer Memblaze to its growing line-up of vendors.

Founded in 2011, the Chinese firm produces high performance PCIe flash memory solutions. The distie, which will sell Memblaze through partners via its dedicated storage division, says the US firm is disrupting the flash memory space.

“Not only is it faster than anything I’ve seen in the market, it’s also a highly scalable, industrial-strength solution at a price point that delivers meaningful ROI for customers,” says Bruce Hockin, director for Cloud Distribution Storage.

“It is a simple product that solves a simple challenge – keeping up with the demand of high speed data processing at an affordable price. It’s also an important business enabler that delivers substantial value and therefore a great solution for partners to take to market.”

The distributor argues that traditional storage devices are struggling to keep up with not only the volume of data but also the increased demand for high speed data processing – while flash technology has fallen to a price point which makes it more accessible to a wider range of customers.

Memblaze joins similarly disruptive storage vendors such as DataCore, Talon Storage, NexGen and Maxta in the Cloud Distribution stable.

MicroScope says, "Cloud Distribution bolsters storage options"

Cloud Distribution has hit the ground running this year and has signed up its second vendor of 2015 as it starts to add to its storage portfolio just months after it decided to add that specialism alongside its networking and security expertise.

The distributor only cut the ribbon on its storage unit last November and hired industry veterans Bruce Hockin and Grant Reddin to head the division and build relationships with next generation technology vendors in the storage and virtualisation areas.

One of the next generation areas in the storage market is around the innovative uses of flash technology and that is where the distributor has opted to expand its roster with Memblaze, which joins DataCore, Talon Storage, NexGen and Maxta in the portfolio.

The flash memory specialist has been around for four and half years and has developed a solution that helps customers ensure stable application performance by drawing on the speed of flash when required.

Ron Macleod, VP EMEA business development at Memblaze, said that it was just entering the European market and had made the decision to use the channel and work with resellers.

"Midway through last year we decided to expand out international business and we want to be 95 to 99% channel," he said.

Hockin, director for Cloud Distribution storage, said that it had done its research on Memblaze and the state of the flash market and believed that there was a strong opportunity for resellers.

"There is very good ROI on the technology and people don't want to take something that will be a challenge to sell," he added "Most of the partners that we are working with will get it."

Last month, Cloud Distribution was signed up by operational intelligence specialist TIBCO LogLogic as the vendor looked to widen its channel base in the UK.
