Key Vote Alert - "YES" on Pompeo Amendment to CJS Approps (HR 5326)

KEY VOTE ALERT
s nothing more than a redistribution scheme allowing politicians and bureaucrats to fund their pet projects.
The EDA is corporate welfare. The free market, not the government, should be in charge of picking winners and losers in the private sector. A better alternative to the EDA is to cut tax rates on individuals and businesses while at the same time eliminating special interest carve outs and regulations, thereby promoting economic growth without growing the government.
Our Congressional Scorecard for the 112th Congress provides a comprehensive rating of how well or how poorly each member of Congress supports pro-growth, free-market policies and will be distributed to our members and to the public.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/ClubForGrowthNews/~4/AplIafHfh8U" height="1" width="1"/>

Key Vote Alert - "NO" on Student Loan Subsidies (S 2343)

KEY VOTE ALERT
s bad policy to subsidize student loans in the first place, but the net result will likely drive up tuition costs for all students, making the overall cost of the bill much higher than its current price tag. The House Republican version of this bill offsets this subsidy by repealing the Prevention and Public Health Fund that was created with the passage of ObamaCare. That fund should indeed be repealed, but fiscal conservatives should only try to repeal the entire law, not just parts of it. Other versions of this bill use different offsets, but for the most part, the offset is irrelevant. Fiscal conservatives should not be promoting bad policy, which this bill contains.

New Chocola Op-Ed On The Export-Import Bank

Club for Growth President Chris Chocola had an Op-Ed in the Sunday Richmond Times-Dispatch, the home paper of House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, discussing the Export-Import Bank:

We have always been a nation of free enterprise. It has set us apart from most others and allowed us to lead the world in innovation and entrepreneurialism. But today, those underpinnings of our success are under threat. Government has become a behemoth that is overtaking industries and distorting markets in such a way that competition and self-reliance as we know it are barely recognizable.

The reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank is a case study in Washington bureaucrats picking winners and losers and interfering with the free market. It s corporate welfare that is hurting economic growth and costing our nation jobs in one of the most stagnant economies in American history.

Key Vote Alert - Various Amendments to the Senate Highway Bill

The Club for Growth is scoring the following amendments to the Senate highway bill (S. 1813):
s role in infrastructure spending has greatly expanded beyond its constitutional limits. Today, it is remarkably inefficient and overly bureaucratic. The proper solution is to return the power back to the states so that spending can be handled more justly and effectively.
This is also a reminder that the Club for Growth is scoring against final passage of the underlying bill.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/ClubForGrowthNews/~4/XfTHbZyKb70" height="1" width="1"/>

What’s so great about moderates?

Jack Shafer at Reuters has a really good article today about the recent New York Times whining over the departure of RINOs like Olympia Snowe from the Senate: Could David Brooks, Frank Bruni and Joe Nocera be any more disappointed with the Republican Party? Over the last week, the three New York Times columnists have written op-eds about how miserable the ultra-Republicanness of the Republican Party establishment has made life for moderate Republican officeholders. ...

None of the pieces really makes the case for why a less ideological Republican Party would mean a better Congress or a better country, unless conviviality, the building of congressional coalitions and the steady passage of new legislation are the supreme measures of improvement. Mostly, theTimes op-ed troika transcribed their Christmas wish list, the first item being that they want the Republican Party to become more like the Democratic Party. But you can e when we went out so she could maximize her dining options.

Definitely worth a read.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/ClubForGrowthNews/~4/Dvkl4OWDeQk" height="1" width="1"/>
