Children's Museum of the Arts: Free Art Island Outpost 2011 » Starts Today!!!

CMA’s Free Art Island Outpost on Governors Island kicks off it's third year Friday, May 27th with free family programming every weekend for the entire summer. This program runs every Friday though Sunday from May 27 – Sept 25, 2011, with workshops each day running from 11am to 3pm. CMA Teaching Artists will lead a slate of programs on Governors Island’s Nolan Park. This summer, CMA programs will take place in three sites:
Building 14 : the yard here will be the site of our Open Air Art Studio featuring changing projects each day for ages 1 to 10
Our Lady of the Sea Chapel: will feature media and animation projects and film screenings, ages 4 to 14 (only Saturday and Sunday)
Building 11: this building will exhibit Art Within Reach From the WPA to the Present, featuring children’s artwork from the 1930s and 2010. This intergenerational art exhibition explores the connections between growing up in New York City during the Great Depression and growing up in the city today. Building 11 will also feature rotating artwork made by CMA’s professional Teaching Artists.

Photo packages range from $79.99-399.99 and you will get a 4x6 on the spot with each package. Walk-ins are welcome for $30. You get a 15 minute sitting and a 4x6 on the spot and then you can decide which package works best for your family.

The Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy, in partnership with Brooklyn Bridge Park, will kick-off the 2011 programming season with the 6th Annual Spring Fling. This celebration of spring will feature Easter Bunny, AudraRox!, and Butterfly Boogie with the Wildlife Theater Company. Spot some birds with Brooklyn birdwatcher, Carolyn Murphy. Come to Pier 1 for an egg toss, egg roll, a duck race, and other games to get your feet moving! Beautiful Earth Group will also be on site to make solar power bead necklaces. Karma Kids Yoga will also be there to help you practice your yoga poses and Transit Museum, Brooklyn Public Library and Moxie Spot will host activity tables. Game prizes provided
