“I want you to give me what I want, not what I need.” she says.

“Ok, what do you need?” He asks.

“I don’t know. That’s why I need you. Can you give me what I want?”

This is loosly quoted from a movie in which the main character is offered a
promotion and the requirement of his new position. He, of course, answer yes, he can.

In a lot of ways this is what it is like to be a coach and it is one of the top areas of focus when I’m coaching coaches: learn to give your client what they want, not necessarily what they think they want!

Clients will commonly come to a coach and speak of their experience revealing that something in their experience is off, whether they know it or not. They’ll speak of what they want or what they think they are happy to be experiencing, but there will be an edge to what they say.

A limiting belief can cause this. For example, in one case a client was certain that she wanted a business. When she spoke of what made her happy, she spoke of having time with her family, having time to herself and the time to explore her passion. Unaware that the new business didn’t necessarily include the things she valued in her life and enjoyed, she took steps towards purchasing the business. She truly had problems realizing how she felt and what she wanted to fulfill her life. She believed that she needed to be an equal bread winner in order to have value, so her beliefs spilled upon and tainted what was giving her joy and fulfillment in her life. She was truly asking for what she thought she wanted in life, not what was needed to make her a complete, whole person.

In coaching coaches I find that it is important to train coaches to see through the ball of wax that client can often bring to sessions. Coaches need to understand when clients are confused themselves and when they have created a ball of wax which is obscuring their experience.

When coaching coaches I like to focus on bringing out the ability to see clearly for the client so that they can see one step ahead of the client, seeing what is truly wanted. We all have a strong guidance system in our desires; however, when the water of our desires are muddied, we can easily misunderstand ourselves and what we truly want.

A great coach, such as a Maven Method coach, always looks one step ahead, making certain that their client is on track for what they truly want, especially when they themselves don’t know.

What Was No Longer Is

Things change, sure. The seasons change and life goes on and I’m sure this is easy for you to grasp and even welcome. However, one way we each get caught or stuck is in the things that we don’t think will change, the things we expect will stay the same. Sometimes we even hold more than an expectation, because we don’t want them to change. So, sometimes we hold resistance to change, and we even defend our stand.

Arguing For Resistance

I certainly don’t mean to say that you are, but I do mean to introduce you to the idea that resistance sneaks into us, masked by comfort.

You see, we all seek comfort. There is actually a law of physics, Atcham razor that says that everything will seek the path of least resistance. The funny thing is that initially that’s what we all do. This is why children just want to play and need to be coaxed into taking on chores and responsibility. Like us and like all of nature, they naturally seek the path of least resistance. However, we become creatures of habit.

At some point, as the seasons continue to change, we continue what had been easy or perhaps was hard, but we got good at. We learn ‘the way it is’ and ‘the way you’re supposed to’. Frankly, after learning all of that, who wants to change and re-learn things? Who has the time to re-learn things?

A hundred years ago this wasn’t such a pronounced challenge, but today things change often and quickly. With computers making up a central part of our lives at work or in our communications, and with computers changing all of the time, if you don’t keep current then your quickly become a dinosaur.

It used to be that a school teacher who had been teaching for thirty years was a dinosaur; now if your computer is two, three or five years old, it’s likely the machine is considered extinct, since new programs can’t run on your archaic machine.

Well, the same is true of us. Just the other day I met a photographer who has been doing photography for twenty years. He said that he has people all wear the same tones and wear solids (no stripes or checkers) because it keeps the view’s eye on your face and decreases the contrast. It’s all true, professional marks, no doubt. Still, times have changed and I stopped requiring such things in photos long ago, as digital cameras and image-adjusting programs seem to compensate and adjust for everything.

It used to be that, if you had a headache or were ill, you were leached. Thank goodness things change! Can’t always rely on ‘good ol’ time-tested ways’!

We are now in the Age of Authenticity, a more allowing age. As you allow yourself to evolve and change you will find that this more allowing age has less rules and more harmony. Also, as you allow yourself to change

This holiday season I want you to consider your richness. I like to speak of ‘riches’ as pertaining to more than money; richness are the things that enrichen you life, the things that you value and are most important to you and give your life meaning.

Generally speaking, I think we all want people in our lives – someone we love, close friends to share our lives with and family, a place we belong and are loved. People are, by far, our greatest source of richness in life.

All I Learned in Kindergarten
Whether it is sharing an amazing moment in our lives, laughing at a funny movie or enjoying a cup of coffee, our experiences are enhanced and deepened when we have someone to share them with. We love the people who are significant to us in our lives, but we don’t always live by our own values. Actually, people often live outside these.

You may have been taught to be nice to others in kindergarten, and your heart may be in the right place, but many of us often don’t put our priorities first. Do you?

Glitz & Glamour
Unfortunately, similar to kindergarten, niceness isn’t rewarded and in life ‘nice guys finish last’. This is because our societal focus is on glitz and glamour; we spotlight drama, negative behaviors and even encourage wild behavior. We live in a world that is quantity-conscious, as opposed to quality-conscious, so that spring break or a visit to Vegas are about debauchery and ‘what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas’, except for the stories and popularity that ensue. Being controversial is far more interesting than being beneficial and heroes don’t make headlines.

Yes, under all the activity and spotlights that society places on being value-less, it is easy for you to lose sight of what is important and to be good to those you love. Simple as some of life may be, it is when you allow life to become complex that you lose site of the few things that truly add richness to your life.

Focus
For these reasons people get off-base, losing touch with what is important, having chose something else in the moment that caught there attention. In an inadvertent energy of lack, you may say something you don’t mean, ignore your child at a holiday party or neglect the people or things that mean most to you when push comes to shove during a busy holiday season.

Now, we aren’t ‘bad’ people. On the contrary, I find that most clients easily re-connect with what they’d rather be doing once they have the proper cues; you may lose sight of what you meant to do, but once you tune back into your own values and the things -especially people- who are important to you, then you quickly change your mind and focus on what will fulfill you and make for a quality experience and a quality holiday.

Our dreams come and go; our accomplishments or failures seem to occupy our every thought and we quickly are too tied up with our own lives. While all of these are an important part of what makes us Who we are, our values allow us to feel good about who we are being and is directly connected to our happiness.

When we take the energetic time or focus to appreciate the people who are meaningful to us our priorities are in order and they organize our busy lives better than we can. When you spend time connecting with those you love, offering a little quality time and focus upon them, you tap into the richness that life has to offer. This can be rather simple when we take just a few minutes to let everything else that has our attention go, placing our full attention on what our child or lover says. The people around you can fill your heart with just a smile or a hug, but your focus has to be there, bringing quality and richness to receive the simplest and most meaningful gifts of life.

Yesterday early in the evening my friend asked if I’d want to drive back into town to go hit some amazing Black Friday sales. My answer was ‘I bought a refrigerator, a stove, a house, an airplane ticket and a boat ticket!’ meaning that I’m all spent.

Now let me put this in perspective…
This fall I received an early inheritance and added onto a casita (a little house, like a guest house, as we call them here). The addition called for a fridge and stove, which my mom helped me with, and, did you know that appliances can cost 2 or 3 thousand dollars? They say you learn something new every day, but I say it’s not every day that I’m shocked.

At the same time, my husband and I had a strong calling to go on a cruise and, since the last floating seminar was so impactful, we invited people to join us for classes on the waves as a free 2012 (which we call the start the Age of Authenticity) gift. So, we will be gifting our time without recooperating our cost.

Finally, my dad, who has been in Spain on sabbatical for 6 months, wanted me to visit him in there. Between our two companies I couldn’t make it so then I coulnd’t say no to visiting him in Mexico for Christmas. ‘Hon, get back online and check the air to Mexico!’

Small Fortunes
You and I both know that each of these purchases was a small fortune. The money I’d had stashed away for a rainy day no longer is, though I have a beautiful refrigerator, will enjoy some great travel next month and am banking on another dry winter.

While people do spend money all of the time, the question is when is too much money too much and when should you stop? What comes first in the laws of abundance, the golden goose or the golden eggs? How do you act abundantly when your wallet is empty and how do you, under any circumstances, tap into the flow of abundance?

Believe It or Not
I know I’m blessed and that you may not have access to communication from your Source Energy, but I’ll share what I’ve been told with you. When I was looking at buying a $225 dollar sweater- which I didn’t buy- I heard my Source say “Do you like it?” Of course, the question implied that if so, I should buy it. I went back and told my husband about the sweater, drool falling down the side of my mouth. He asked, “What did your Source say about it?”

“My Source said ‘you should get it’, and I said, ‘I’ll run out of money.’ Then he (my Source) said ‘I’ll put more paper in your wallet.”

Again, I didn’t buy the sweater, I bought a fridge, making the sweater look inexpensive. Still, I have to tell you that he really did put more paper in my wallet. At Lowe’s I noticed that the charge to my credit card seemed high. So, I looked at my receipt and, sure enough, they had billed a few things incorrectly. In addition to double-charging for the extended warranty, the fridge’s price was much higher than I’d thought. The sales man scanned the listed price and announced “You win! The price is marked incorrectly, so you get a refund!” Hundreds of dollars in a refund would be a great credit on my credit card, but for some reason they could only put half of it back on my card and returned half back as cash, leaving me with more ‘paper’, as my Source calls it, than I’d originally had.

The Golden Point
The moral to this story is not ‘go spend your money, it grows on trees!’, because it doesn’t so please don’t misunderstand! No, the lesson here is much simpler and complicated at the same time…

The flow of abundance is such that it is unlimited and available to us all. However, our energy around money and financial abundance is like a an energetic hand. When this hand is reaching for and feeling a lack of abundance, then we tend to repel even what we most want. At that point, that energetic hand reaches to no avail. On the other hand, when we are feeling abundant and feeling that there is plentiful then our energetic hands form a cup that is filled and that overflows, abundance showering us.

Tapping into that flow of abundance requires that your energy be that of welcoming the golden egg, without figuring which should really come first. The only first is you. When you feel well-being in your heart and you allow then you don’t go and buy every sweater, boat ticket and whim you encounter. No, in the flow of you (and you in well-being) you do not seek external things to make you complete. You seek internal things, like the feelings of love and joy, to warm your heart and your soul.

Once your heart and soul are singing, you find that paper shows up in your wallet at the right time, every time. This is when you book the boat’s journey, knowing full well that, given the songs you are singing, the money, the time off from work and any other items needed to make your dream come through will all line up.

I’ve seen past clients and students who have done just this and have taken part in travels that they never thought they could afford, and now they are living with far more richness than they used, both financially and in all other ways.

So here is to a 2013, The Age of Authenticity, filled with your ability to lay golden eggs with the song of your heart- and soul!

Her outer world is so perfect you might be jealous. She is an equal in her partnership, has a business or career and a family, yet our modern woman is longing for more. How does she do it all? How does she make the money, have family, the love and the looks? Or is this picture only skin deep? Are there more wrinkles to her life upon a more intimate look?

It is the Age of Authenticity, an age whose energies are here to help us tap into our own authenticity. This also means that it is a time when dreams will come true, because in our dreams we are living who we see ourselves to authentically be.

In our dreams women- and men- can have it all. But I’m not seeing it all. I’m not seeing it at all. Whether it is women I know in my life, clients, friends, acquaintances, colleagues or family, or women I don’t know that I see in the media, I’m seeing women living in outer worlds that are fragile; glass lives of sorts.

A Glass Life

We’ve all heard about a glass house, but today a glass house in your life might be a good thing in comparison to a glass life. After all, the house might break and be disappointing, but the loss is limited. The shattering of a glass life would be devastating.

It has become common for women to be the breadwinners in the family or at least bring more money home that their partners. While we live in a first world country, most of us ladies are running a home, raising a family and running a business. The ironic part is that many third world countries always had maids and help in the home. Many women I know, whether they are cleaning their homes themselves or not, are living more like a slave to life, myself included. Generally speaking we don’t have regular help at home, we send our kids to daycare or school and aftercare and we work hard to get ahead at work.

Yes, on the surface we have it all, but it often seems to be held together by a thin string. For many women a crack in their glass lives has become a larger threat to who we are. Loosing work would mean losing our power in our lives or our relationship, though fifty years ago women weren’t working, so this is not where power or authentic feminine power comes from. If our children become rebellious or alienated from us, we are beside ourselves and deeply embarrassed that a primary relationship in our lives is not what it should be. Finally, if our relationship is unsatisfying or filled with spats, regardless of our sexual orientation, we feel empty inside. Who we are is easily threatened pointing to a lack of authenticity.

Are You Being Your Authentic Self Or Are You Trying To Do Your Life Right?

On the one hand, women have advanced and changed drastically in the last fifty years. We have stood up for ourselves and proven that we didn’t have to submit to anyone, thus being our own person. But when I see women in today’s world I see a lot of women with outer worlds that doesn’t resemble their true persons. I see women exhausting themselves and sacrificing quality time with their children and partners in exchange for the false sense of power that work and money bring. I see women trading in the time to bring great joy and pleasure into their lives in exchange for doing it all. So, on the surface we have it all, but in our hearts to we feel it at all?

A Woman’s Heart

The feminine gender flow is such that we are all about quality and tend to be emotionally based. We have all grown up in a traditionally male-dominated world, and this one is quantity, technologically, academically and mentally based. These are what make up the yin and yang, two sides of the same coin with different faces that then make a complete whole. This would look a lot more like we are having it all.

But that is not the world we live in. The greatest gift of femininity lies ungifted, waiting for us women to change the world and bring it back into balance. You see, while women are having it all on the surface, I don’t see happy and fulfilled women. I don’t see women enjoying their lives and knowing that they have lived the richness of life. Instead of trying to live a life of quantity, a life with it all, our gift to the world will be the quality of it all.

The Age of Authenticity is said to be filled with gloom and doom, but in a lot of ways it is already a good descriptor for life today. The challenged economy can easily threaten our way of life; our children, who we aren’t raising and spending quality time with, are growing up in the most challenging times yet. We are getting older and fatter and, while worse disasters can still strike, living under constant threats means that we are living easily-broken glass lives.

In this age and with us women feeling more empowered to lead our own lives, it is time to assess the landscape of our lives and begin to allow ourselves to be who we truly are. Now is the time to find our true strengths, which can neither be threatened nor taken from us. It is time to create our inner worlds, the place within us that creates worlds of love, joy and connection. It is time to feel as though we can spend our time doing what we prefer and keeping the company of those we love.

Our feminine gift as women changes everything we do, although it doesn’t mean we have to quit our jobs. It means that when we are true to our hearts and our gifts then we will re-define and value achievement as what we be and how we experience life. We will focus on how things impact our lives positively and give importance to what feels good and loving, not just what can be done. There will be an air of pleasantness around us that others will become enchanted by, and our greatest enchantment will be with ourselves when we re-define our dreams based on what will fill our hearts, which will, in turn fill our lives.

Some people try to realize their authentic selves by rejecting imperfection. For a long time, the leading belief was that to be an enlightened, spiritual being, one had to be faultless. Fortunately, this limiting belief is changing. When we separate ourselves from our imperfections, we isolate an essential part of our growth and being, but authenticity and spiritual health requires embracing the whole person.

Allow Your Life To Be

How else can we inhabit the present moment, which is all we ever have? It’s true that every minute of our lives can’t be filled with spiritual wellness, since our feelings, actions, thoughts, and energies constantly change. But the spiritual response to these “imperfections” is to just allow them to be.

This, of course, doesn’t mean that we can’t direct our flow once we embrace the “now.” When we are in alignment to Source Energy, we can then tap into a creative wellspring of imagination or anything else we desire.

Free of Charges

When we live in Golden Flow, our alignment with Source rids us of emotional charges. We may have tried to “direct the flow” or change the path of our lives before, but until we allow where we are at this moment, our word and intentions encounter a spiritual block. Demanding or requesting life to be a certain way is simply not aligned to the creative energy of being.

While we can’t ask for different experiences, we can direct the flow of creation. Let’s take the metaphor of driving a car. You cannot demand or request that a car take you somewhere; rather, you have to learn how it works and drive the car yourself. In the sense that life provides us with experiences, we can’t change the car’s machinery, but we can align ourselves to its particular engine. Keeping a charge-free state can also make a safe driver. An anger charge, for example, can be an easy cause of accidents.

spy mobile phone

As contradictory as it sounds, you must therefore let go of your charges in order to obtain your desires; going-with-the-flow is the one means of directing the flow of creation and being awake to your creative potential, which finds abundance in Source. As complicated as this process is for each and every one of us, the Golden Flow can also be natural and simple, just like our breathing.

best essay online

Think of yourself as if you were a straw; there needs to be a flow within in which the liquid comes in one side and out the other. You must always maintain this flow because otherwise the straw can get dirty, moldy or cut off from further liquids.

You are the same. You must always allow an inflow in life. This inflow brings new energy in and new opportunities and probabilities (possibilities) in life. However, what you are dreaming of or even your regular, flowing day become less and less possible when there is a clog in the straw. Like a pipe filled with old, rotting junk, the passage narrows and what flows through becomes contaminated or blocked off all together.

Thus, your outflow is important. Like a smoothie through a straw, a clean consistent flow is a wonderful, nourishing and invigorating thing. It keeps you feeling at your best and as though all things are possible. Such an inflow can only exist when you are allowing the outflow, or for the smoothie to reach your mouth.

An outflow can be appetizing, like a smoothie, or terribly uncomfortable, like a sewer pipe that is backed up. In this year of Authenticity, it is important to unclog yourself, maximizing your flow and your ability to experience more of Who you are, as opposed to old, stuck and goopy energies. It is important to recognize that a clogged pipe shrinks in the sense that less can pass through and the old clutter and waste can actually decay the pipe or make it inflexible. A clean pipe, on the other hand, will actually act like a flexible and expandable pipe, which can increase the flow of goodness, of new probabilities and experiences in your life.

Time To Flush!

In accordance to this summer season’s energy, it is time to flush! Time to clear out your past and rid the vessel you are of your past—your past patterns, energies or habits. Time to clean the pipes so that a new flood of goodness can come your way!

Of course, this can be done and is beneficial any time you want to increase your Golden Flow(TM)!

The Flush starts tomorrow, so sign up and get ready to spend 15 minutes twice a day for 7 days shifting your energy, increasing your flow and getting yourself in greater alignment to your own goodness!

Flush Techniques

For the 7 Day Flush, please be ready to commit to spending 15 minutes twice a day-

Perhaps you might say to me “Kalyn, you simply chose to move to the States when your mom separated and moved back to California”, but I would say this is only true on the surface.

Everything is energy first, which means that even our choices and decision, as well as the options made available in our choices, are energy first too. So, I question the energy of my life. Now, let me clarify, I question it out of both wonder bathed in gratitude and some fear. I consider myself to be extremely fortunate, thought this brings me back to questioning the energy of it all, for I am the only grandchild, out of thirteen, who had the opportunity to grow up in the land of opportunity.

I was recently at a workshop where the speaker said, in his German accent, that he was proof that 'the American dream' is still here, since people now say it may be gone. Well, I too feel this way. After all, on my father's side of the family, to be born into a family of thirteen in our generation, which includes my brother who should have, by definition, had the same opportunities I did since we have the same parents, and to be the only one who grew up in a first world country is quite a blessing.

How Me?

What a terrible question I hear a part of myself asking. It is what it is and it worked in my favor, so why ask? There is a curious aspect to people, which the cliche says the cat killed. For me though, it is more. I am visiting Mexico now and have had the rare opportunity to see a handlful of my cousings. Even though I grew up in the States, I would come and spend the summers here when I was young. It helped me keep up my second language and get to know this side of my family, especially cousins my age.

Visiting now is strange. I hadn't seen the cousins I had an opportunity to see in at least ten years, along with their parents, my uncle and two aunts. It is rattling to see people age ten plus years at a time, since my memories of them don't age as the years pass. All of a sudden my teen-aged cousings are now in their forties. They have all gained weight (haven't we all) and I see the weight of time upon them. I see the struggles in their smile and I see the price of life they have thus far paid. I see some of them struggling financially, which is due more to their upbringing, and I see my favorite cousin stressed out because squatters have absconded with the home she and her husband had begun to build after having saved the money for it for ten years. Not even a title to the property, lawyers and legal battles have returned this to them.

Struggle Should Be Written With A Lower Case “S” In The Land of Opportunity

Even in the Enchanted Land of Opportunity where I live in Santa Fe, New Mexico there is strugggle, sure. However, it is easy for those of us in the US to be clueless about how good we do have it by living in a first world country. It is easy for us to take the many opportunities before us for granted. Receiving a free education through High School and being able to attend comunity colleges or state universities inexpensively isn't a luxury given to all countries. Even every-day experiences like renting an appartment in the US isn't a huge deal, though in Mexico City just finding available space and then having someone offer themselves as collateral for your rental is more complex.

The One-Man Stand

When I was young my parents separated. When my younger brother and I visited my dad, he talked us into staying with him to try to bring the family back together. When my mom next visited, I told her I wanted to go back to the US with her.

She then told my dad, who quickly turned to me and brought forth the force to be recconed with. He said that no, I wanted to stay putting me in a position opposite to what I'd wanted.

For a young child to stand up to a contradictory argument and express their desire can require the iron courage of a six-foot tall football player. Or, a child will just blurt out what they want as if it were nothing. For the little girl I was, it was courage.

I've never been good at standing up for myself, it is something that has been a core focus in my personal and spiritual growth. When I look back at the one time that I clearly said, without hesitation, where I wanted to live, it seems surreal. A simple sixty seconds, or less, that determined the future energies, probabilities and opportunities of my life — must have had a devine influence. Call it a predestined change, if you like. And this is my point.

Life On Mars

Life on Venus exists in a galaxy in which I married my husband, had my daughter and live in my house with our pets, and owning our business. It is all me and beautiful things that I adore about my life. It is a world on Venus because I am a woman and, had I stayed in Mexico, metaphorically speaking I would have grown up in a foreign world, like Mars, and in a different galaxy in which everything is the same and yet completely different from the husband, child, home to the language, beliefs…

Everything Is Energy First

My teachers, before the days of Facebook, told me that everything begins in energy. I have grown up between two gallaxies where the energies are very different to manifest as such different experiences. And I alone have switched galaxies.

As a personal and spiritual coach I am accustomed to reading the energy of people, problems, desires, places and, most of all, me. I have spent so much time working on my own energy and its manifestations that my cousins, aunts and uncles are impressed, meaning that they are impacted by my visit. I see this in their eyes as they look at me and hear a little about my life. But they aren't impressed just because I'm part Mexican, though I'm not. They aren't really impressed because I'm culturally American, because when it comes down to it, I'm not.

What I Am Between Galaxies

When it comes down to it, I'm me. I have shifted my perception and my energy so that I don't identify with a culture, but rather with my dreams. Sure, I basically consider myself American, but I'm not married to it. I may even move abroad one day.

So, this energy of mine, call it pre-destined or divine intervention, has been the true blessing. It has lead me on a path, which the US facilitated, of personal and spiritual growth. It has made me unique; I've been described as a mystery because I look “cute and small, but then am deceptively powerful”.

Yes, everything is energy first. These words are no longer a cryptic message, but rather the explanation as to my experience. And, my energy has always seemed to be to help others as they find their way through it all. And to do so, I've focused on my energy, which I'm seeing from a different perspective on this trip, and which I'm grateful for.

The Land Of Authenticity Has No Nationality

Being identified in me means that I'm not identified in being American, though I consider myself to be quite patriotic. Why not? It's a great country, imperfect as it may be.

A part of me has asked why I was blessed, but the thing is, it's a bit of a silly question. Even if circumstances had been different and I'd grown up in Mexico I would have been faced with the same choice in life we are all: to own my life. We all have challenges in life and we all hit some sort of rock-bottom. What we choose and whether we own our lives enough to build something authentic from the bottom up has nothing to do with destiny or divinity. It is all us.

The truth is that, like my favorite cousin, I have an inner calling that I chose to listen to. I chose to go up against all my odds and improve myself. I chose to change my energy. No one requires a predestined experience or divine intervention to make this choice and such experiences still require us to do what we need to do to improve our own experience.

The Age Of Authenticity

Yes, times are changing and we are in for still more change. This being the year of authenticity, there is a calling to us all to connect with who we truly and authentically are. It is a calling for us to look deeper than the designer jeans we covet, because they won't change who we are; for us to go beyond the beliefs we are identified in and to be impressed by life and the world around us such that we allow our authentic selves to come forward. This authentic side might choose those same jeans, but now those jeans and our authenticity puts us in a parallel universe in which our authentic self lives by a different set of laws.

writing service

This authentic self knows. It knows what to do and where to go; it knows how to put us in the right place at the right time, without us trying. It knows how to allow a harmonious life which will impress those around us with love, while creating beautiful music in our predestined– or not– lives.

I just saw the movie “Mirror, Mirror” with Julia Roberts. I’d hoped to like this snow white re-told better than I did, but at least the movie offered a new spin on the mirror’s image.

In this classic tale of magic, the evil step-mother queen has a magical mirror that speaks to her. She uses this advantage to try to keep the power of the thrown to herself and to take advantage of the people.

A great twist in this version is that the mirror’s reflection is an image of the queen herself.

Now this I loved. That is because it holds the idea that a part of the queen always knew the price she’d pay for using magic.

In our lives, there is always a part of us that knows the price we’ll pay for indulging our egos, lying to ourselves and for trying to push the river. It is something that we all try to do. It is something that we all know won’t really work, but sometimes we pull out all the stops to try anyway. We look to life and other people to help us justify and validate our attempts, convincing ourselves that the mirror’s promise that there is a price to pay won’t apply to us.

And then I see people pay the price. I see some who can’t pass up opportunities for love or power; I see others who can’t pass up the usual withdraw or shyness because they want to stay safe and cozy.

The funny thing is that it doesn’t matter whether you are a greedy and power hungry monster or a quiet and timid mouse: In both cases you are still ignoring the mirror.

In the movie “Mirror, Mirror” the wiser and all-knowing version of the queen in the mirror tells her that she ought to marry the baron who has proposed marriage. A solution to her financial problems is disregarded quickly, despite the fact that it would provide the solution and the fulfilment to the queen’s true needs.

And there you have it. Monster or mouse, when we disregard what we need to do for ourselves and instead chase what we convince ourselves will make us happy or comfortable, we fail. We always fail, as we can never escape the magic and wisdom of our own mirror-self.
