World’s Fastest Remote Control Car

No matter the age, guys like cool toys and the world’s fastest remote control car is an impressive sports car.

Designed by 46 year old Nic Case, this RC vehicle is capable of traveling at speeds of up to 161 miles per hour with Nic having aspirations of improving the top speed in this race car to 200 miles per hour.

At extreme speeds such as this, the RC car will need something more then 2 AA batteries as a fuel supply. You would think it would need something like rocket fuel but rather this car uses an 11 horsepower motor that requires a 12 cell battery pack normally found in hobby airplanes.

Handcrafted with a carbon-fiber chassis, build time was about 6 months while construction costs ran about $4000. To keep the car stable, the vehicle required oversized tires, a gyroscope-based steering-correction system and an all wheel drive system.

Sony Multifunction VRD-MC6 DVDirect DVD Recorder

Many consumers still have family home movies stored on analog tapes and are looking for a one step system by which to archive these personal memories to disc. The DVDirect DVD Recorder offers this solution.

A Sony product, this multi-function gadget is capable of transferring either high definition or standard definition home videos as well as digital photos to DVD discs without the need of a personal computer.

The new model, known as the VRD-MC6 is 60 percent smaller than its predecessor and includes a 2.7” color LCD display that can be used for video preview or for viewing up to six digital photos simultaneously.

Using either composite video inputs, digital video inputs or USB ports, the VRD-MC6 supports data input from a wide variety of sources including digital video recorders, VCRs and camcorders and the final recorded disc can be played on most consumer DVD players.

The DVDirect VRD-MC6 is expected to retail this September for $229.

Samsung recently introduced their latest LCD display - the ‘finger’ slim Samsung XL2370. The XL2370 features cutting edge technology, energy saving benefits, a super slim design and LED technology incorporated into the display itself.

With their new LCD display, Samsung again proves why they are the leading worldwide brand for LCD displays and other electronics. Dubbed the “finger slim” model, the XL2370 comes with a crystal like bezel frame with Touch of Color (ToC). This feature reduces the reflection of light and glare. The screen also supports full HD 1080p resolution, Starlight Touch controls and 2ms (GTG) video response.

In addition to the state of the art features of the screen, the XL2370 is also eco friendly with reduced energy consumption. The screen requires 40% less power to operate in comparison to other monitors of the same size. Synology’s DS409SLIM Offers Big Features In A Small Package

Recently Synology earned an “Outstanding Product” award for their Disk Station DS-409+NAS. Building on the successful design features of the earlier model, Synology introduced a new sleek version using 2.5 inch laptop hard drives.

Called the DS409SLIM, the ultra slim version is similar to the Disk Station DS-409 but takes up less than half of the desk space. Measuring in at 4.7 inches by 5.6 inches, the sleeker brother still offers four drive bays for up to 2 TB of storage capacity in its ultra tiny frame.

The new model includes a 1.2 GHz Marvell processor and 128 MB of DDR2 RAM. Using Disk Station Manager 2.1 software, the DS409SLIM supports several backup options, cross platform data sharing and scheduled power settings. The unit can also be setup as a dedicated 24/7 BitTorrent, FTP or HTTP download center.

Despite its small size, there is still a one GB Ethernet port, two USB 2.0 ports and one eSATA port. The DS409SLIM also includes a snap in disk tray that can be set up for a variety of configurations including RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 6 and JBOD. Furthermore, the DS409SLIM includes DLNA certification as well as support for UPnP so users can stream multimedia files to set top boxes and consoles that are compliant with the gear.

The DS409SLIM retails for around $400 not including the hard drives.

Sony Vaio W Netbook Computer

Sony Electronics has come out with the Vaio W, their first netbook. For some time now, Sony has stayed away from the netbook market, but this mini notebook computer is an acknowledgment of the success and popularity of the netbook line.

Typical of all netbooks, the Vaio W is ultraportable and handy for basic computer functions such as surfing the internet and checking email.

Available in three vibrant colors, pink, white and brown, the Vaio W features a 1366 x 768 high resolution 10.1-inch wide screen display, 160GB hard drive, built-in webcam and microphone, bluetooth support, two USB ports and multimedia streaming software for wireless streaming of digital movies and music across the home network.

The Sony Vaio W netbook will be available next month with an MSRP of $500, which is above the price of most netbooks with similar features.

Super Talent Pico Mini USB Drives

Super Talent has come out with some cute flash drives coined the Pico Mini USB drives. These drives deserve the descriptive word pico as they are small. The drives measure 32 x 15 x 3 mm and have a weight of just 1.5 grams.

The drives come in four different colors, each color denoting a different storage capacity. The orchid pink drive is 2GB, the lime green is 4GB, the sky blue is 8GB and the classic black is 16GB. The mini flash drives are priced from $9.99 to $39.99.

Another cool feature of these flash drives is that they are waterproof. Now, I don’t expect someone to have these drives in their swim trunks the next time they are at the local swimming pool, but this is a handy feature in the event that coffee spills near your computer.

TechCrunch Editor Michael Arrington To Manufacture Crunchpad Device

The iphone meets the netbook with the new Crunchpad, the latest gadget from TechCrunch editor Michael Arrington.

Arrington thought of the plan to “build a dead simple web tablet for $200” last year but only recently did he announce that production would commence. Arrington has formed Crunchpad, Inc, a startup company based out of Singapore that will oversee the manufacturing of the new Crunchpad device.

So what is the Crunchpad? Technically, the new device is not a tablet PC but operates in much of the same way but with built in iPhone capacity. The machine is thin, sleek and runs on low end hardware. The Crunchpad is expected to come with a touchscreen virtual keyboard, headphone jacks, a built in camera, low end speakers, a microphone, WiFi networking, a USB port, a built in battery, 512GB RAM and a 4GB solid state hard drive.

In terms of software, the device will include a Linux operating system, Firefox and Arrington anticipates that Skype or VOIP will also be included.

Arrington is well known in the tech cyberworld for TechCrunch, his online magazine and blog site that claims 15 million page views and 5.5 million unique visitors each month. TechCruch employs 21 people and also claimed $6 million in revenue from advertising in 2008.

The question still remains if Arrington will be able to pull off the funds to ship his new product to consumers. However, many people, including well known investor Ron Conway, are not only willing to bet on it, but also invest in it.
