From iPhoneDevCamp tonight in San Francisco. A few Newtons made it into the picture.

Many Mac developers will be able to extend functionality of current apps to iPhone while others will dream up the next must-have apps. It will be exciting to see what comes out of this DevCamp.

Be sure to check out the iPhoneDevCamp wiki and help spread the word among your Coccoa & web developer buddies as well as designers. RSVP on either Facebook or Upcoming or set up a local mirror event wherever you live.

The iPhone launch is going to hit hard next week and the media attention, I'm afraid, may be overwhelming for even the most ardent Apple supporters. The iPhoneDevCamp should be a breath of fresh air and we're gunning to make it a rockin' event for all who can attend.

Calling all sponsors: If you're interesting in sponsoring, take a look at the open needs (meal sponsors would be great) on the wiki and contact me (cocoaradio[at]mac dot com) to discuss. Money or in-kind donations for prizes is fine -we only ask that your prizes be related to iPhone. There will be loads of prizes throughout the event.

iPhone Developers Camp is an upcoming gathering, inspired by BarCamp, SuperHappyDevHouse, and MacHack, to develop web-based applications and optimize web sites for iPhone. It is a non-commercial event, organized by volunteers, with attendance free to all. By the completion of the weekend event, a number of iPhone-ready web applications and web sites will be launched to the public. The event will be held at the San Francisco offices of Adobe, and out-of-town guests are welcome.

Attendees will include web designers, developers, testers, and iPhone owners, all working together over the weekend to improve the web experience for iPhone. Development projects will include both solo and team efforts. While some attendees will wish to work solo during the event, we encourage attendees to team up, based on expertise, to work in ad-hoc project development teams. All attendees should be prepared to work on a development project during the event. You do not need to own an iPhone to attend (although, a large number of iPhones at the event will make the development and testing process much easier).

Attendees will be able to:
* Create new web applications for iPhone.
* Optimize existing web applications for iPhone.
* Migrate Dashboard Widgets to web-based widgets for iPhone.
* Test and optimize web sites for iPhone.

The event is being held the week following the public release of iPhone, to allow prospective attendees some time to acquire an iPhone. This also allows early-acquirers the opportunity to do some experimentation before attending the event.

Scott Stevenson stopped by Obvious Corp. during the MashPit + CocoaDevHouse and agreed to record a podcast for you all.

Scott writes about Cocoa on his popular blog, Theocacao (pronounce it as you wish!) He also coaches Cocoa devs, maintains Cocoa Dev Central and recently launched a developer news site, Cocoa Blogs. I just have to wonder if Scott is privately funded by Apple to spread the love of Mac!

I also consider Scott lucky to be doing all these things from Silicon Valley.

He's a quick study in Obj-C and Cocoa, responsible for keeping the conversation rolling on #CocoaDevHouse, and attended the first event in Dallas.

As a Barcamper, Tyler gained notoriety for his hack to share contact details. He calls it BonSoir which got picked up by O'Reilley bloggers and TUAW among others. It was released it under a "Taco License"!

"Bonsoir takes advantage of Cocoa Distributed Objects, Bonjour, and the Address Book API for allowing the quick and easy sharing of vCards on a local network. The basic idea was that everybody could grab Bonsoir here at BarCampTexas, select their vCards, and we could all add each other (into Address Book) to help keep in touch"

With his forthcoming Emission app, we'll see further proof that he's got something between those ears.

I've meant to blog about this since Alex announced the availability in Chinese and Arabic. [links removed see link above] Take that O'Reilly!  Maybe Alex knows something about the growth of the international Mac market that others have missed.

Grab the PDF and get cracking!  Also, CocoaLab hosts an online Wiki version of the text in English.

Kudos to CocoaLab for making tools like this available to new developers. It would be cool to see developers offer to run people through this course at CocoaDevHouse. There are a few in planning around Australia last I heard.

I made a statement in January that I would be learning Cocoa this year and it's not come to pass. However, I am newly inspired to pick up the thick books and with the help of cocoa dev friends I hope to be coding for Leopard in the coming months. Now if I can just figure out what in Kochrans book I should ignore. Perhaps some personal coaching from Aaron Hillegaas when in Atlanta next is in order.

Omni, a stalwart among Mac dev shops, dates back to 1993 now has about 25 employees in Seattle. In the last month, we've started seeing fruits of their decision a year ago to broaden their product line with Omni Dazzle.

In the interview, Ethan of the infamous, Kinkless GTD, is mentioned several times but I regretfully and embarrassingly didn't recall his name. If you are a mind-mapping addict or business switcher, you're going to enjoy this interview with Scott. He is a former developer on Macromedia FreeHand with a great story to share about a company doing things right on the Mac. Mindjet didn't just port their Windows app (thank you!) as Scott explains, but intentionally set out to create a solid Cocoa app and true Mac experience. Simple logic other software companies should adopt!

Now that it's out I expect to see it become even more powerful via Applescript and their API - a wake up call for all of you power users and GTD hacks out there! So grab a demo and tune in.

Get Pukka already! - a del.icio.us posting client from Justin Miller's CodeSorcery, utilizing Bonjour, Growl, Sparkle and other niceties available to Cocoa developers. Justin has recently released v 1.1 of his first Cocoa app and has some thoughts to share. While his app is simple, it's a great example of creativity and marketing.

Be sure catch his guerrilla marketing tactics and thoughts on being an entrepreneur. I hope he's got some great app ideas on his drawing board. Check out his screencast for a quick overview - btw he's using a nifty app, iShowU for that.

Steve worked at EDS for 9 years prior to jumping into Cocoa full-time and hasn't looked back. He's a great example for others seeking to make a living working for the Mac market (yes, those iMac switchers are your boss and could hold the keys to your freedom). He's also one of the many OS X notebook app developers with some new ideas for updating his first Cocoa app, KIT.

The event will be cohosted by our two generous venue donors: Mediamatic and Fleck.com

The CocoaDevHouse hackathon event will take place in the fabulous "Le Mepris" and exhibition designed to resemble an airport lounge. Willem Welthoven of Mediamatic has also very kindly offered us the use of a reinstated Food Facility and GarageBox Bar for the duration of the event. So that's a hackathon, in an airport lounge, in an art exhibition!

Boris Veldhuijzen van Zanten of Fleck.com has kindly offered us of his space so if people are up for breakout sessions / informal stuff that's not hacking, (I know a few are) then we can use Fleck's office.

In true wiki spirit, CocoaDevHouse planning has spread to Australia, Europe, and to various cities around the States. Don't ask when CocoaDevHouse is coming to a city near you, but how many OS X enthusiasts you know nearby. Then simply add your city to the wiki, blog about it and ask others to spread the word. We will soon have a "Spread CocoaDevHouse" page on the wiki (who's going to beat me to creating that? Spread Barcamp is an honorable example).

Don McAllister, host of the new EuroMacPodcast has reported on the event in his inaugural podcast. Check it out and support his efforts to cover Mac news from a European perspective. Props to Don for helping to spread  CocoaDevHouse in Europe.
