You failed to mention Disqus - which already implmented Facebook Connect - and is a more robust commenting platform using the same technology

To be honest - I finally dropped the livejournal plugin about a month ago - and it was working fine then (though in your scenario it almost sounds like your webserver). Currently to get my content over to my livejournal I'm using ping.fm - ping.fm allowed me to minimize the plugins I was using for crossposting, so it does the work for 85-90% of what I used to do with just using one plugin.

you know - one thing I forgot to add - at one point I did try to move them over to a Google group when that was an option - it was too dead by then to perform a proper migration.

CSS is so much easier then HTML since it is more human readable (even though they say HTML is human readable). If you manage to ever get over to the wordpress platform you'll be doing alot with CSS in themes (you also do it in blogspot themes).

I managed to first get online to the "real internet" back in 94, but I didn't do any HTML for years. After moving to a CMS (content managment system) or blog platform I can say I would never move to static pages done in HTML ever again.

I seemed to have lost the link to the RSS feed for my visited places - am I looking in the wrong places or is this gone?

Some people won't get the Cobain thing. I didn't at one point. I'm not sure I still truly do on a personal level. I love Nirvana and it's one of my "go to" bands when I want to listen to something. When I was in high school it was my senior year. I was into hip-hop and rap. It wasn't until the following year I ended up listening to a lot of rock that I got more into it. To some level I always enjoyed rock - but I was more likely to buy C&C Music Factory then any rock album.

So once I got into Nirvana, Kurt Cobain was already dead. So I don't think his loss can reach me the same way. I think some of Nirvana's lyrics are nonsensical, and that's fine. It's the voice not the words that spoke for my generation. The same way I think Hendrix spoke for his. Some things transcend it all and I think in the greater picture is what Kurt really did.

To be honest - I haven't really attempted to actually remove steady state - on the machines I employ these on I would just do a system wipe. If I get a chance I'll attempt to go through and try it and see how it goes and what I find.

My only problem now is that I've been using hte GPS to track wher eI've been - and if I forget to either plugin the N810 at night or leave maemo mapper running - it kills my batteries. This can make me a sad panda.

I don't nec. disagree with you - it took me much longer to write the article then it would have been to come up with the idea of doing this and make the change.

In theory my one AP is newer and prob. is not in the database, if my other API's are in the database it will probably say the wrong state depending on when they passed through - pre or post move to my current location.

Either way - I can change, I know how to change, and if I am inclined I can do it in under a minute.

What the real point of this article was everyone was going WAY overboard and overthinking this issue and solutions to remove their own AP's from teh database. If they don't like the database or have a grudge against, my solution is simple and sweet. The geo loc. data they get from your MAC is wrong - but like you pointed out if they want the information they can just walk down the street and pick up a different one.

There is no reason I have to be altruistic and give out my geo loc. information just because someone didn't buy a device with a GPS in it. That's really the issue though right? When geo location applications become more refined we will just be using GPS chips in all of our devices anyways? At that point the skyhook database should eventually die off. It's a stop gap until the GPS chip itself takes over.

Isn't that the point though - I wasn't going through stating that everyone should change and break the skyhook API - just if your worried about the geolocation information of your own API.
