My church has partnered with an organization that is sponsoring the Mango Tree Orphanage in Haiti. In an effort to increase their presence, I started working with my pastor to develop a logo. In one the rare instances where the creativity flows and things seem to come together quickly, I was able to create a logo we were all very happy with in short order.

They symbolism may be fairly obvious, but just to be clear, we have:

The “T” in “tree” is made from the trunk of the tree.

The tree is in the shape of a cross, symbolizing Christ.

The tree is shaped like a heart symbolizing love for these orphans.

Several orange mangos hanging in the tree.

Fun, kid-friendly typeface.

What do you think? I’d love to hear your feedback on the design. We are in the beginning stages of developing a website currently.

When I started Code Forte in April of 2011, I obviously needed a web presence. What’s a web design company without a website? Though I wanted the site to have a great look, I didn’t have a lot of time to get it up-and-running. It needed to be clean and simple. I was happy with the end result, but by the end of 2011, I knew I needed to step up my game. By this point, I’d completed several new projects that I was proud of, but didn’t have a great way of displaying them on my site.

The original Code Forte design

Better Portfolio

I wanted my portfolio to be more robust. To be able to show more than one screenshot of a project. Since I take pride in my development process, I wanted to show off what WordPress can accomplish for clients, and show different types of page layouts. The new design features some great CSS3 functionality to show thumbnails of my projects (h/t Codrops).

CSS3 hover effect on Portfolio thumbnails

Better Copy

I wanted my site to be more detailed. I’ve expanded the copy on my Services page, and I’m also performing some more behind-the-scenes work through the site (mainly features for potential and existing clients).

Revised and expanded copy on Services page

Responsive Design

Lastly, the mobile revolution is here to stay, and along with it, responsive design has become more popular. I wanted Code Forte 2.0 to have a responsive design that looks great on any device (desktop browser, tablet, phone). I’ve been polishing my responsive skills for the last few months and moving forward, I plan to offer responsive design on all future Code Forte projects.

Responsive layout for mobile devices

I’m really excited about the new design, and I’m excited to add this blog to Code Forte 2.0. I plan on using this space to show off new work as case studies, as well as writing about happenings in the new media community.

What do you think?

I’d love to get your feedback on the new design! Open and honest thoughts are welcome. My plan for Code Forte 2.0 is to be able to evolve and change over time, as needed.
