In a social media story set to music, Pete Codella, APR - principal of Codella Marketing and NewsCactus, and author of the digital public relations blog PeteCodella.com - comments on many of the top social media tools and trends for business communication.

The month-long Crazy Little Thing the Web project included writing lyrics, producing and arranging a musical score, spending a couple hours in a recording studio, then working one morning filming a music video. Thanks to the help of his wife, who helped with lyrics, his friend, Tyler Castleton, who helped with the music, and Preston Parker of MultiMediaWise who took the music video project and ran with it, the project is a success.

The music video was launched on YouTube on June 24 and one day later already has received several hundred views.

Codella debuted the music video at the annual conference for the marketing communication workers of America's Blood Centers who gathered in Denver for a four-day conference.

Next month Codella is conducting a day-long social media training session for employees of the City of Las Vegas. Today they were virtually introduced to their social media coach by way of the new music video.

Crazy Little Thing the Web is Codella's entrée onto the stage of musical commentary about the social media space.

Perhaps the music video, which currently has five stars, will go viral, receiving hundreds of thousands of views. Or perhaps it'll be appreciated by just a few hundred social media fans. Either way, it serves as an example of what can be done with creativity, time and perhaps a little talent.

All too often companies and organizations draw upon the same tools to share key messages. Why not expand the tool box by employing clever, new and multimedia rich methods of communication?

Codella hopes that Crazy Little Thing the Web, his social media music video, will inspire others to step outside their normal modus operandi and try something different, fun and engaging, regardless of the industry in which they work.

The lyrics to Crazy Little Thing the Web are included below.

The video is embedded here in the Codella Marketing newsroom (see the associated multimedia section of this release) and may also be viewed on the Codella Marketing YouTube channel.

Crazy Little Thing the Web
A song about social media and the Internet
By Pete Codella, APR

The Internet, you gotta get a handle on it.
You Google, you blog, you tweet, cause you're hooked on it.
Boss ain't ready!
How ya gonna help him see?

Social media, it's hip, it's even addicting.
It's hot, it's cool.
It delivers top notch search placement.
I kinda like it!
Social media's the bomb.

There goes my phone again.
It's a Facebook suggestion.
Do you wanna add a friend?
Add a page. Become a fan.
Did I really used to date that girl?

I got the fail whale. Oh no!
What's up with the Twitter server?
What are you doing?
Update.
Because I can't survive without my followers.
I wanna a million.
Like Ashton Kutcher.

I've got a YouTube channel
For me, and for my job.
I post the videos online.
And I'm hopin' someday they'll go viral.
What's my rating?
Please won't ya give me five stars?

My LinkedIn profile.
I post an update all the while
Tryin' to build my connections.
I take a poll and join a group,
And I get top search placement

I gotta new blog for my dog.
I write as if I'm on all four.
I catch a frisbee and do tricks.
Then I go to Flickr and I post the pix.
I've got a Webbie.
I can even post film on Flickr.

Crazy little thing the Web.
Crazy little thing this Web.
Crazy little thing the Web.

Crazy Little Thing the Web by Pete Codella is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 United States License.

Many businesses naturally question whether or not social media can help them secure more business. Executives are rightfully weary of new, unproven tools.

However, there's a growing amount of evidence pointing to increased engagement (i.e., new clients, more product sales) from social media activity.

In addition, engaging in social media tools helps a company drive traffic to its online Web site, newsroom, blog and other sites. The inbound or search marketing benefits are enormous.

In an effort to demystify the many different social media tools businesses can use, Salt Lake Marketing firm, Codella Marketing, has packaged the most tried and true social media tactics into a new Social Media Toolkit for Business.

The toolkit outlines Codella Marketing's philosophy and approach to consumer and business-to-business marketing through the Web. It identifies a handful of the tools the company uses to set clients up, train them, and get them started on the social media road.

With as many different needs as there are clients the Social Media Toolkit for Business is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Rather, an individual, customized plan is assembled for each client.

A Social Media Toolkit for Business flier accompanies this announcement under Associated Multimedia below.

At Codella Marketing we excel where technology meets the practice of public relations. Please contact us to learn more.

Pete Codella, APR is the featured video interview on this week's Utah Pulse business Web site. Codella was interviewed last week by Utah Pulse managing editor, Bryan Schott, regarding marketing for business through social media tools.

Codella, through his company, Codella Marketing-a Salt Lake City-based interactive marketing firm, assists clients in all facets of communication, especially online.

Codella is a founding member of the Social Media Club of Salt Lake City leadership team and serves as the organization's program director. Codella is also a member of the editorial board for the worldwide Social Media Club organization.

A traditional public relations practitioner, Codella became involved in online communication initiatives a decade ago, first through Web sites, then through the various social media tools now available.

His greatest Web 2.0 expertise comes from developing the most cost-effective hosted, social media equipped online newsroom solution available - NewsCactus.

The NewsCactus online newsroom solution - created in 2006 through a partnership with Image Domain in Las Vegas - puts the power of self-publishing on the Internet directly in the hands of communicators without relying on IT or Web design professionals.

Codella frequently travels to present social media workshops and seminars. He is one of the presenters at the 2nd Annual Social Media for Communicators conference in Las Vegas, March 11-13, 2009.

Only a week after the inaugural meeting of the new Social Media Club of Salt Lake City, KSL radio reporter Paul Nelson broadcast a story on the launch of the Social Media Club of Salt Lake City and recent Internet research findings.

The Pew Research Center released the results of its latest Internet study last week and reported that 35 percent of adults now say they have a profile on an online social network site. This represents four times as many adults participating in social media than were active in the medium three years ago.

In the interview Codella shared his experience on social network sites - how the younger generation dominated Facebook originally and how adults are now signing-up to reconnect with family and friends, and to monitor what their children are doing. In Codella's observation, Facebook has become a real social hub for 20, 30 and even 40 year-olds. It's used for business and personally.

The Jan. 14, 2009 Pew Internet & American Life Project report contains 17 pages of the latest findings about how adults and teens use the Internet.
