Life Update

Hello everyone! Glad to finally be writing again, it’s been quite awhile since my last update.. try 6 months lol! Yeah.. I’ve been super busy between work/clients and life. It’s been an interesting past 6 months for sure and so far is going great.

So what’s been up Cody?
Well needless to say besides client work I’ve been keeping really busy with personal projects and friends.. as well as the thing called ‘dating’. Yeah… crazy!

With personal projects
I’ve been working on the Hosting Panel that I posted about here several months ago. Finally had a chance to write it about a month ago and its almost polished for show time! Hoping to launch it on a new set of servers in the coming weeks. Aside from this I’ve been working on some other random projects, including the venture back into Ruby on Rails and iPhone development.

Friends
So I’ve been hanging out with my friends more the past few months. As a lot of you know I used to not be super social locally. Always spent more time working or online with my online friends than working. or even spending time online with local friends LOL. Needless to say I’ve been hanging out with local friends more and have made some new ones too. =)

Dating
So… dating.. oh boy.. crazy! Most of you that really know me know that since I started my business back when I was 16, I kinda put girls and dating on the back-burner and solely focused on working and building my business. Leaving no time for girls, let alone all of my friends. Well due to that I never experienced the typical ‘dating’ that most go through during their High School years and there after.

So I’m new to the whole game and a lot of first-times in this new venture. I’ve been dating off and on since early April but I’m still single and not in a relationship. First two people I dated didn’t go so well… needless to say I did come away from that learning a lot of good things about myself and about what I did and didn’t want in a girl and relationship. Needless to say its been a journey for me and a huge new venture.

I’m not finished with dating of course, still on-going and meeting new girls all the time. But I will say its not going to be on the top of my list. =)

So what else has been up since your last post?
Well other than what I said above, I’ve been doing a lot more traveling since I got my new car in late Jan. It’s been nice to travel again, both for fun and for photography. Which I’ve been venturing back into photography the past 6 months a lot more than I used to be. Always updating my Flickr with new photos.

Hoping to soon start getting back to filming again as well, should be getting more new gear in the coming month or two I hope and will get back to short films again. Soon as I can make some time for it!

New Website is Finally Here!

New website is here!!!!, Finally after a good month or two of development in my free time; the website is done! Due to being extremely busy with work I haven't had time to work on it so it took quite awhile! Overall I'm quite happy with this website and I hope you enjoy it!

New articles will be releasing on this website very soon and I want to try to release at least one new article a week, these new articles won't just be updates from myself but will also be text and video tutorials covering various things, in part these will also be posted to another new site that I'm now apart of called HowToNoob which I'm in the process of creating a new theme for currently. I will release more on this when the time comes.

Please enjoy looking around at all of the content and be sure to subscribe to the blog either via rss or email, located in the right sidebar.

Currently comments are disabled in posts due to me re-writting my comment module (as the system this website runs on is my own that I've built), as soon as I have the time they will be finished and restored, however I did not what them to hold the site from launch.

New Site Launch

The new website will be launching here in 2 days. Last stages of development on it are underway and I know I've said for while it was coming, but due to being busy with client work I had to put it off. So now its about 90% done, I just have to write a few final aspects of the system and then it will be launch time. With the launch I will also include some new posts/articles that annouce a few projects I'm working on as well as the new tutorials on that are on the way!

Say NO to slicing!

Okay I have to say this: Am I the ONLY person who thinks slicing a PSD and going to HTML is a BAD IDEA? I think this method leads to ALOT of the common problems that people encounter, esp cross browser issues.

I must lay out my thoughts on this, sorry if you do not agree.

I simply DO NOT use slicing and I haven't in years. Why? Because I for one feel its a unnecessary step that you can easily skip. 2. Letting programs like photoshop create the code for you is a bad idea, though many do this. 3. There are better ways to do this.

What do I do thats so different?
I design a site, I then start coding a html/css structure from scratch for that design, only pulling images from the design where they are needed. Doing this plus using the rulers and the tape measure in photoshop is key. I'm not afraid to say that my method or workflow simply works and I'm also safe to say that 90% of the code I create works flawlessly across browsers without any odd quirks. Now I'm not going to not say that I haven't had problems or things not work before, because I have; however not as much as the fellow devs I know who insist on slicing.

WYSIWYG
This also goes hand in hand with my same debates on why I dislike WYSIWYG editors and why I feel they are just creating bad developers. Why? Because using a WYSIWYG editor; say dreamweaver only is going to output sub-par code, most of which is heavily crap and won't validate, not to mention they are ALWAYS behind on standards.

I think this is enough for now, I could surely keep going but this is just a quick rant/opinion for you.

WoW! 2 Months.... New House!

Wow... its been two months since I last updated, I honestly can’t believe its been that long. Well a lot has changed in the past few months, I had a long-time friend move in to my house, I got a new house and finally got done moving, and work has been up and down as usual.

New House:
The new house is really cool! Soo much larger than any house I’ve ever lived in! If I combine the garage in the house’s square feet total then it comes out around 3200sq ft! Man its large and the previous house that I lived in for 5 years was 900sq ft :(, so with that said here are some more details. I have a pool now, 17x30x3-10 and the hold house if it was a few sq ft smaller would fit within the pool! I have a garage and soo many extra rooms. Went from 3br, 1bth with a living room and kitchen to now 4br, 2.5bth, 2 living rooms, dining room, kitchen, den, and garage! What a change I tell you! I’ve only been here over a week and I feel like I’ve been here months and its great, and talking about room size here, my new room is almost 3x larger than the largest bedroom in my last house. Soo excited oh and I have a balcony if I didn’t mention that! So coming down off my highly hyped/excited high from the house I have to say that its been a life change and a very happy one at that. Btw... photos on my flickr of the new house.

Work:
Well works been okay... its been up and down as always, its always a roller-coaster with blind curves, one minute too much work to keep on top of then no work for awhile, to be honest it kinda sucks but I have to say I still love what I do even if its not consistent. I love being able to provide a service to others and help them where they need it, in my case I do this because I love to not because it pays a lot, I can easily go work elsewhere tomorrow making tons more but would I like it? noir love it? probably not. Either way it’ll get better with time, always does :)

The Assassin - Short Film

The Assassin started as a short film idea by my friend Kyle and I. We shot a great deal of the film while Kyle was here in December, however due to time and money the film has not been completed yet however production is planned to continue in August after Kyle moves here.

This film is being shot on a 35mm Rig that I've built and have since upgraded along the way. This film will be finished on that rig dispite a new rig being currently built.

Below I've posted a few quick shots from the film, however what you see is not final and is only very rough shots.

Best Commercial Award

Back in February I along with quite a few others was asked to work on a click-clack style baseball promo for Thunder Vision Television over at Lake Region High School, where I’m constantly at in my free time helping David Sparling and his students create great videos.

For this video I was Director of Photography, Shooter, and Original Editor.

This video in March was entered into the annual Polk County Video Awards. Among videos from every other K-12 school in the county. Among these several commercials were submitted under the High School sub-category of Best Commercial. Not expecting to win, we were one of the finalist and called down to the front with another school. For this category there is a Peoples Choice and Judges Choice Awards. We did not get the Peoples Choice, however we did receive the Judges Award which is the main one that counted. We accepted and all of us from TVTV was on stage in from of 4k people and broadcasted live, two students spoke and thankfully did mention my name as I stood next to them on stage. Glad to get thanks for a project I’ve done and did a lot on.

Film school or indie, which is right for you?

A great deal of my readers know that I’ve been in and out of film and media for ten years now and while I hate to really talk about myself in this fashion I can say this without extradition from what I’ve heard from others that have seen my work. I’m very talented and very versatile in many aspects of media and have a great deal of technical knowledge in camera technology and new-media technology. Having the chance to work with many different kinds of equipment over the years really helped propel my learning experience. I like to say I’m a jack-of-all-trades for media because not only do I know a great deal about film and video but I do know a great deal about audio, visual arts/graphics, 3D design, and many others within the “media” field.

With that said I’ve had the opportunity to check out Fullsail to see what they have to offer, while yes I do know a lot about the field I still wanted to look into a degree that would backup what I do already know plus fill in any areas I might be sour at. So this weekend I went and checked out the film degree at Fullsail University in Orlando, FL. They have very nice hands-on labs and teaching styles that really put them as one of the top five film schools nationally, not to mention their prices are very considerable considering the prices of other similar well known but not as great film schools.

With looking into Fullsail again as I did two years ago I keep the expectation that I will more than likely not be able to attend due to poor credit on my parents side and lack of the best GPA on my end. However knowing this I’m still going to attempt to apply and see how far it goes. However if I don’t get accepted like some of my friends have been then thats okay as well because I know that a great deal of the stuff I know and use that they teach I’ve already been using for years and actually the current camera technology I use they don’t even teach yet, actually I’m told most film schools do not teach on the cutting edge.

However coming away from this I know that without making it there I still have a future in media in many ways, the projects I do on a weekly and monthly basis that most of you don’t know I do are all media based both big and small and I’ve been in some very nice places because of it and many doors have opened to me since I started doing these projects back in November 08. So without a doubt I will be in the field and coming out of Fullsail I would still end up where I am now with a degree instead of not having one, however I’d still end up having to find a job in the market, make my reel, and so on. By not going to Fullsail that gives me two years ahead that I could already be making my way into the field.

Overall Fullsail is a great place if you can afford to attend and if its right for you. If your like me and you’ve always been a self-taught individual who is a quick-learner and already know a great deal about the field then maybe Fullsail is a waste of money and time that could be put to better use in your work and/or business in the field. Best of luck to anyone out there trying to get into the field or into Fullsail. I'd like to also note that no matter which path you take you still start at the bottom, going to Fullsail or any film school doesn't give you instant high status in the field, you still start out at the bottom only difference is your now 75k in the hole with a degree and name to say you know what you know. However if your like me you also have the advantage of knowing a greater deal than just the single film field and your on the cutting edge of technology instead of a bit behind the curve at Fullsail.

The Prom Story

This story is based on actual events that took place. Names were removed from the story however this is written by me as I saw it. I would like to note that the events herein this story are pure truth word for word however some areas do have more detail then others and some things I did leave out, however the parts I left out was the boring or not so important events.

In life you meet many people and you have many great friends. You go to events with people and hang out or dance or maybe go to prom. But sometimes the people you think are your friends are really just out to stab you in the back and leave you to die. However the people that are really your friends are the ones who tell you about the supposed-to-be-friend stabbing that took place when your back was turned. And here is how the story went:

I’m a nineteen year old geek who loves technology and I have many friends. I help out at a local schools media department and I was invited to the senior prom for said school as they needed someone to film it. Well it happens that I’m out of high school due to finishing early; however a lot of my friends goto said school and they are all seniors this year so this was their prom. So not only did I find out last minute that I could go and was asked to but a day before prom a friend asked me to take her friend to prom because she was sick and couldn’t go, so I agreed to take her friend. Well it ended up that this girl was my date to prom; so a day passed (now prom day) and I’m picking her up at 5:30, well one of my friends was riding with us and he was bringing a date along. Well long and behold his date for whatever reason couldn’t go so he was now dateless. So I still let him go and all; so I picked him up and came back to my house for awhile then went and picked up my date, which let me tell you was very awkward indeed and not just because he was dateless but because this girl and I barely knew each other and in knowing me you know that I’m not the best at meeting new people especially girls. So anyways it was a long awkward drive to prom and all, once we got there we was early so we had to wait awhile before we could go in. Once we could go in we sat down and then my friend got some food and I got a drink as my date didn’t want anything. So we had to wait about thirty more minutes before the bulk of our friends started to show up, however before this I did go around and do the taping that I was there to do. So with that out of the way and our friends was coming in, people started talking and both my date, friend, and I was all over the place talking to our friends and such. Well as more and more people began to dance my date was with her two friends dancing. Me not being the best at dancing as 90% of the time I’m having to film and not getting to dance and so on. So she’s dancing with her friends and all; a few hours pass and I’m just walking around doing various things and such and she is still dancing with her friends. A slow song came on again so this time I got her to dance with me instead of her friends and such. So we danced for that song and I was decent at doing so however I caught on that she is used to all kinds of crazy dancing instead of just normal slow dancing, not only that as soon as I finished dancing with her; some dude came up that she knows and he started dancing with her on the next song so I’m like whatever and walk away. As the night goes on and I’m not doing much I end up grabbing the camera again and started taping people dancing and having fun. Keep in mind filming is what I do best and its my passion so I was having more fun filming than anything. Meanwhile I was filming and there were so many people I couldn’t see that my friend was dancing not only with a lot of girls but my date (if you dare call her that). So I of course was filming for like forty minutes off and on so not knowing what was going on between my friend and my date I kept on till I got tired and we had like a hour to go. So I finally stopped and put the gear back up and started dancing and hanging out with friends and so on, then went over and saw my friend that came with me and he is like I’m just dancing and such and I did dance with your date and I’m like thats fine (just thinking it was a normal dance; keep in mind it does seam normal for others to dance with other peoples dates) so I didn’t think much of it and he went back to dancing with some other girl, so then I went over to one of my best friends and he is like dude I have to talk to you tomorrow and I’m like what? not knowing anything. So I say no really what is up? and he is like your friend is totally dancing and making out with your girl on the floor. So I’m like: he said he was dancing with her but I didn’t think much of it, and my best friend is like well he is totally doing more than you think and was kissing her, so at this point I’m getting pretty pissed over it (without showing) so I tell my best friend, hey no big deal I’ll talk to you more later. So I start walking around blowing off steam over what just happened and the fact that a friend did this to me like this is beyond wrong. I mean hey I know I wasn’t dancing with her a lot and that I didn’t know her that well or that long however I knew her longer than him and she after all is MY DATE for Christ's sake. Not to mention he is a long-time friend, so that just made matters worse. I just kept walking around and chilling and while I was I walked passed a table where a girl was sitting that I used to have a major crush on but then she didn’t go out with me and instead went out with her old boyfriend, so as I walk past she is like hey, how are you doing and I’m like I’m great, and then she asks if I was done filming and I say yes I am and she is like hey do you want to dance and of course I said yes, so she gets up from eating and heads to the floor and her boyfriend is like hey where you going and she is like I’m going to dance with him and he is like whatever and sits down so I go and slow dance closely with her and had a great time, then we talked for a few minutes afterwards and then she went back to her table and I went back to walking around then another kinda sorta friend is like where is your date and I’m like its a long story and he is like no really tell me so I’m like well I brought my date and my friend who came with us ended up making out with her on the dance floor without me knowing anything about it till after the fact, he was like fuck that shit dude I would totally not put up with that. I’m like well I’m pretty pissed over it and I’m tempted to leave his ass here; already knowing that she is going home with her friends anyhow so he would be the only one riding back with me. So we depart and I keep walking around thinking; then I ring up one of my best friends and tell him the deal and he is like I would totally ditch him and not put up with that either. So I talk to him for awhile then I go back in and they play two or so more songs before they start the notables. So as the songs end and they start to sit down and parents and others start to come in I’m like you know fuck this and I while he or anyone else is really looking; grab my camera gear and head out the door; on the way out I stop and talk to the principle and he thanked me for being there and helping. So I had to instantly be in a cheerful happy mood for that; then as I finished talking to him I left and of course went right back to my pissed off mood. I finally after that long as walk got back to my car loaded up my gear and headed out leaving my friends sorry back-stabbing ass-hat self behind and him knowing nothing of it. So as I leave I ring my best friend back and I talk with him as I drive back home alone, which is a forty minute drive. And talking to him and driving alone got me back in a better mood than I was before, so I got home unpacked my stuff jumped online with a few of my really good true friends and been talking to them as I write this.

Insane But Fun

Hey readers, I've been very busy doing many events and things. Outside of my business I do many other things including Theater, Film, and Photography. This past weekend I was lead audio technician on a large play (Beauty and The Beast) that was written by Thommy Altman long before the Disney version came out. I got to work with a great crew of people from Theater Winter Haven (Dereck Waytt, Vincent Miller, Ryan Summerails, Tom Johnson, and many others) as we put on the play at Lake Region High School, which many of you know I also volunteer at this school a lot in their media department. During the pre-production and production of this play I learned quite a lot about theater production and event lighting. I come from this saying that I have a deep passion for theater now along side my passion for film and this hopefully won't be the last project of its kind that I work on. Overall I had a lot fun and met a lot of great people and best of yet we all together put on a great show.

I must get back to my clients now however I'm glad I had time to stop and drop you guys an update. Thanks for keeping up with me and as soon as I get the chance you will see the new site and blog.

It’s been awhile…

It's been awhile since I last wrote. The past 2 months have been hetic with projects and holidays. Here is a short recap.

General Life Updates

By request from others I've decided to update my blog.

Lets simply say that my life right now is super complex and complicated and a great deal of the events happening aren't something I care to post for you all to read. While I love that people read my stuff even if its random at time, I just feel there are some parts of my life I don't want others knowing about right now.

With that said here are some general updates.

- I'm doing a bit less client work and more work in media

- I've been busy with both web clients and media clients lately

- I've taken a interest in a few new technologies and other paths for jobs

- I will be going to college within the next few months as well

- I'm also out enjoying life and doing more things instead of being home all the time

That really sums the bulk of what I want you guys to know for now. I've been trying to keep my twitter and other stuff updated but I don't always have the time to do so or don't have anything interesting to tweet about that I care to share.

On another note my parents did work their issues out and are doing well for the few people who wanted to know.

So overall I hope everyone is well and I hope you had a great thanksgiving, take care.

The Old Me!

So for the people who knew me 5+ years ago then you know what I mean when I say I'm going back to the old me. For the past 4 years I've been living in a sort of a act from the way I really am. Why I started this act and leaving my old self behind is beyond me, but I've had enough and I'm going back to me. Some people won't be happy but I honestly don't care. All that matters is I'm happy and I care about myself.

My Life Lately

Well I've been quite busy lately to say the least. However I feel its about time to take a few minutes and write an update for my readers.

So lets do a short recap over the past month or so.

- Busy with new clients and new projects

- Doing some volunteer work for a local high school

- Met some awesome new friends

- Working on my Camera Rig

- Parents separated for good.

So lets take each of these in more detail.

Busy with new clients and new projects

So I've been pretty busy with new clients and such, been coding some interesting sites lately and been coding a lot quicker and more efficient than before. Also been playing around with some different web technologies to help aid in the whole process and be able to create new tools and sites that simple kick-ass. Overall things are going well even know I'm constantly busy with this.

Doing some volunteer work for a local high school

A few weeks ago a few friends of mine that are in a TV production class here at a local high school, wanted me to help out with various projects that they had, as well as helping out the teacher as well. So I have been helping them out on different projects and have met some pretty cool friends and people during this.

Met some awesome new friends

As a continuation from above, I've met some pretty cool people and friends while I've been helping out at that location, which is pretty great because I really needed to start being around more people in my age range and just getting out more and well doing what I love the most which is filming.

Working on my Camera Rig

As time and money permits me to do so with my insanely busy schedule and a lack of extra funds, I've been able to work on my rig. Slowly buy surely it is coming together, it has taken months and will take many more before it will be close to complete, but I'll be happy once it is and I can only hope to have a good bulk of it done within this next month as December will be filled with tons of filming for a project I'm doing Director of Photography on. Quite a few things left to get but not all of them are 100% required, however dumping around another 1k into the rig will be almost complete, outside of getting some more lenses.

Parents separated for good

So for the people who don't know, my parents finally separated. A great deal of you who are close friends know that I still live at home like most people my age do for many reasons. However over the years there has been more than a fair share of issues between my parents and to make a very long story short my parents finally called it quits after 20+ years. Overall I'm neither upset or super happy over the change, as things yes will be better around here without my dad around in some cases, some others not. However the fact that I have to now help pay more bills isn't all that pleasant to me either. But the whole situation around another issue is having to do with vehicles and is one thing that has me highly ticked off, even more so with me doing more things that require MY vehicle, though its a really long drawn out subject that I'd rather just not write about a this time.

So I hope all of you readers out there are doing well, overall I'm doing pretty well and keeping busy which helps keep my mind on the things I care about and less on the things I don't want to deal with. I've also started taking and interest in a person that I like to be around and hang out with, thus keeping me happy with that social interaction, though we will see how that goes. Either way time will only tell how things will go in the end. Re: My Future

Well as per my last posting I've taken the time to think over things and such, I'm going to pursue other things and look into getting a degree and possibly doing other things for work but for the time being I'm going to keep things as they are now with just a few slight changes. Outside of that everything is still the same and will remain the same for now. I have a ton of ideas and plans on my plate but killing off sources of income in exchange for other things and so on isn't the best plan. So we shall see how things go but for now like I said its all the same.

On another note, check out my latest flickr photos, you will find something quite enjoyable if you are a DIY kind of person or if you have a passion for gear.

My Future

So for the people who don't know any of what I'm about to say hopefully this covers it.

I've been a full time web developer for the past 3 years and I'm going to be stepping down from that position. I will still be doing it on the side for my current clients and for local businesses but I will no longer be doing it full time as I'm pursing other careers.

I will be working at a local place full time to help with bills and such as web dev isn't the best for a steady income and overall I never intended to make web dev a career anyway.

I have many different careers that I'm looking into, I don't wish to list them at this time for many different reasons but lets say they are all very important jobs.

Anyhow for any clients I have that may be reading this, be rest assured that no worries about support and such as CPC Designs is not closing its doors but is rather slowing down and not taking any super large projects.

Rig Tests (updated)

Last Wednesday while I was at a friends birthday I was showing some other friends the progress on my rig. While I was there I shot some test video. Below I've given a screenshot of that test video with the original raw colors and then 2 modified presets applied.

Over I think these turned out really well and look good.

Just updates

I've been working like crazy lately so not a lot of updates. Here's a overview ;)

Work:

So works been insane, lots of clients via Flosites and been really busy. I've had quite a few local clients as well, so going good on both ends.

Next few days...

I'll possibly be offline in the next few days or so, we have a hurricane headed this way and there is already watches out for the whole west coast of Florida. A few years back the entire city list power due to fallen trees at the local power plant and fallen tress throughout our areas, so its almost a given bad storm = no power. I have backup generators to power the house but most of the time when I loose power I loose internet and phone as well. So yeah thats what is going on if I'm not around.

Camera Rig:

So most of you know.. I think, that I did get my new camera in and my rig is slowly coming together when I have the extra funds that is. So overall update on it is its going pretty good, did some test shots however adaptor is taken apart right now to clean the GG of which got dust on it *sigh* so yeah outside of that its going pretty good.

So yeah nothing to new outside of all of this but thats really about it. Keep in mind when I have the time there will be some major changes around here, I'll leave you with that ;)

Man what a weekend!

This past weekend was one of the best! My buddy from the west coast a few weeks ago told me about the Projekt Rev concert that Linking Park has each year, he then told me it was coming to Tampa and he wanted to go, so I looked over it and such, then decided I should go too! Well fast forward till this past weekend and he's sitting in my living room 3000 miles from home pumped about the concert! So I picked him up friday morning from TPA/TIA and man did we have a blast this past weekend out side of the concert, but man did we love the concert and would do it again right now if we could! Sadly he had to leave yesterday night (sunday) which sucks because I haven't had that much fun in a long time, regardless it was a blast and we will do it again.

So now its just back to the norm for awhile, catching up on clients and such. I did get my camera last week and had a blast with it this weekend as well, got the bulk of my Rig done and have done a tiny bit of shooting with the rig.

That's really about it for now, check my Flickr for new photos, other than that and the blast I had this past weekend, everything else is normal and going great! :)

Hey Guys! Been busy this past week, got a few clients done and a few new ones :) so thats great!

I got the new Camera in today so thats great and just in time for a business shoot next week, so it won't take long for it to pay for itself and pay for more Camera Rig Upgrades so thats even better!

Everything is going great and as soon as I have some free time for myself then you will see some major changes around this site :)

Well I'm off to bed, gotta be up early to drive to Tampa and pick up my friend who is flying in for the weekend and he's going to the Projeket Rev concert with me on Sat, much to do tomorrow though pick him up, fight heavy traffic back here then a pool/birthday party for a close friend, then a cookout at another place.. then the concert saturday which is from 12PM to 1AM, then movies sunday before his flight leaves sunday night back to the west coast. So much! hehe....

Is becoming a better writer or blogger, possible?

Is there really a way to become a better writer or blogger? Especially someone who has a hard time with reading comprehension and staying focused on a book. I don't know about you but this is a sore subject for me and frankly one I’ve never been that great at. As you’ve noticed before in my posts, they are always short, simple, with no real structure to them. So what is your thoughts? Can you ever become a better blogger or writer, and learn to love to read books? Please leave your comments!

General Updates

Well how is everyone doing? So far I'm doing quite well, business is outstanding, personal life going really good, my father recovered well and is doing great, so yeah everything is pretty good.

New camera finally came in after back order, so new HV30 rig will be done here soon I hope, depends how things go. However more shooting in a few weeks on a new project.

Web stuff is going well, however staying offline as much as possible to focus on other things and enjoy life a bit more than I used to, needless to say I'm either at home working or sleeping, or I'm not home.

Gym's been going pretty good as well, I am seeing results so thats great, however not going as much as I'd like to, due to working all the time. However trying to keep the weekends free of business so I can enjoy other things you know. ;)

When All Seams Well, Something Fails

Friday night started out like any other night, we left to goto our normal friday night hangout at X-Tech. Everything went just like it always does and was there for several hours. After that we headed home and started what we always do once again, listening to music and hanging with the neighbors, typical weekend. We as of that time my father was appearing normal, didn’t look like he was in any pain and he hasn’t been, he’s been pretty normal lately. Closer to 10 something he said I’m tired and I’m going to bed, he was quite intoxicated at this point as well (nothing new), so he went to bed, several minutes later mother told me he had told her he wasn’t feeling well and that he hadn’t been for sometime. So she had me go and check on him, keep in mind only a few minutes has past since he went inside. So I preceded to go check on him to find him collapsed in the floor, now this could mean two things, A. passed out from being drunk. B. Heart Attack or something similar. Well I of course ran to him to check him and he was barely breathing and it was very irregular, so I yelled for mother who ran in there, her knowing what he said before made her instantly get upset and told me to call. As I was calling she was getting even more upset as apparently he was telling her to just let him go and that he loved her, but don’t leave him alone like his fathers wife did to his father. As this was going on I was still on the phone, I tell you 911 takes too freaking long to get there, I bet it was a good 15-20 minutes before they got there and I could drive two either local hospital’s twice in that time. So I was getting pist as well, mean while him barely hanging on, to note this isn’t the first time this has happened, last time was ‘92 and before that was ‘87 or so. So they finally got there, did their thing, got him loaded and off to the hospital (not going to explain every detail there). We arrived at the hospital, we through the typical stuff you gotta do, etc, then about 30 minutes later after quite a few calls and family showing up; they called us to go back there (mom and I), at this point he was awake at least conscious now and talking, but still weak and not happy we took him there, as keep in mind he hates hospitals, doctors, etc. So not long after we seen him, we had to bring in his Boss & Best friend to calm him back down to keep him in there as he of course wanted to leave, not to mention they wouldn’t let us pick a hospital and the one he’s in is the same one that killed his mother (yes true story, long one too). But anyhow we got him calmed down to stay finally, this being around 11-12 something and he had a nurse that was pretty decent and was joking with him and keeping him happy so he was willing to stay, so by 3:30am he was stable, on straight nitroglycerin and wanted us to go home and get rest, as he would still be in the ER room for a few more hours. So we went home, cleaned up the mess, etc, then went to bed, got up the next morning and headed up there after calling to find out which floor. We got there, found out the room and by the time we got to the room he was coming out of it pist at the nurse he had that morning, apparently she tried to give him a new IV full of air bubbles and then preceded to beat the IV to get rid of them, he caught her and had enough, as you know air in your blood will kill you if it hits a organ. So he left the hospital and came home, ‘course minus the nurse ordeal we and everyone else wanted him to stay to find out the issue, not keeping leaving like he did in ‘92. So at this time he is home, stable, and seams to be feeling okay after a ton of sleep, he says he’s not in any pain but who knows he’s very secretive. I hope for the best and hope he gets better, we shall see, he says he will stop the drinking so lets see if that helps or if he even does.

So lets hope for the best and see what comes of it, hopefully good but I’ll just have to face that he could leave us at anytime, not something I want to carry around but nothing I can do about it.

Hopefully I got everything in there.. I’m sure I did, hope it makes sense! Cheers people…

Camera Rig: Canon Ee-A In

So my Canon Ee-A Focusing Screen came in a few days before I expected, the company I got it from via ebay was by far one of the easiest to work with. Great business and fast times.

So with this in now just awaiting the rest of my stuff. This will be a long few weeks.

A Bag Full of Updates

So many things to update you guys on!

So first:
DVD Project & People
The project is still going very well, landed some major hookups with some very big people, will post in more detail when I get the okay to do so.

New Gear
I’ve been working on a new Rig lately, no not a computer rig as I choose to not do that (read more down). So my new Rig is a special 35mm/DOF setup for the HV20. Here are a few shots of some other HV20 rigs, I will post pictures on my Flickr (to the right) as my parts come in.

Computer Rig
So yeah as I said above decided to not build a new one right now, I instead fixed the old AMD system I had and bought new RAM for my iMac from 1Gb to now 4GB’s! Woot!

This pretty much wraps up the bulk of my updates, work wise everything is going really good and always busy, now pretty much working 7 days a week. Gym is also going well and is still quite fun, seeing results pretty quick as well.

Parallels and new build

Well I played around with Parallels yesterday, seams to work quite well and it will work for a temp solution till my new system is done. For you hardware people out there here is a brief on what the new system spec is:

Intel Core 2 Quad 2.88Ghz
4GB Ram (was going 8gb but decided to not go 64bit OS)
Nvidia 9800 1GB PCIe
Over 1TB of storage

and much more, I’ll post more specs as I get more exact in what they are.

The primary point of this machine is Visual Efx (3d, etc) only. Mainly building it for a film I’m working on with over 1000 VFX shots in it.

So I’ll post more as I go along with the build.

DVD & Commercial Project Updates 2

So if you read this post last month then you already know some about this project.

Well here is some more info on the project and updates:

Over the past few months we’ve been planning and getting a ton of shots together for the informercial and the first dvd in the series. And we are still getting more and more stuff as we go. Here soon I’m meeting with the producer of our local fox station along with his production company at a shoot in Tampa to decide if we are going to use their services for our dvd shoot in a few weeks. We’re not 100% sure if are going to use them or not but of course that will be decided after this shoot. We had to set back the shoot date for the dvd a bit because of a new factor we added into the dvd series and we have to wait on certain things before we can continue. But as of now everything is still going great and it’s been a great and interesting project to be part of!

So keep checking I’ll try to post more updates as I can, without giving away too much :).

Short Film: The Killer iPhone in post

Most of my close friends know about TKI (The Killer iPhone). It was a random short-film I shot back in February of this year. The film was a random thing that popped in my head and me and my friend went with it. We’ve both been real busy these past few months, me with my business and him with his school/college so we haven’t had time to work on it. Well this past 3-day weekend we had, we both spent the time working on it and got it further along in post, however it has a lot of post work in it. So I’m just updating you on this and feel free to comment, but it won’t be out just yet as like I said we have a lot of post work left to do from the Audio, Scores, more CG, and other things. Plus it’s not a full time project either. Keep tuned though as greater things are on their way after this one!

Departure From Thinstack, One Way Ticket Please

To clear up some confusion about some recent activity around Thinstack and the common people I know from the network. I did in fact leave my position at Thinstack due to a few reasons but mainly that of time, being a IRCOP/Oper is just another thing to take constant time and time for me is very strict these days.

For those who don’t know I was a oper and co-founder of Thinstack, which is a semi-popular IRC network, while we’ve been through a lot at the network since we started it over a year ago, it was still a fun place to be let alone I had a few channels there as well. But with my lack of time lately I just didn’t have the time to keep up with my channels let alone the whole network, so I decided to leave Thinstack, I do pop in every now and then but not much and I do still keep contact with the other opers and such. I also for the time being still help out on the website since I did do the coding for it.

Overall it was fun but time to move on. Here you can find a post on Thinstack about me leaving as well.

We Think, We Say, Then We Regret

So I got to thinking and I’m not going to follow out what I said in the last posting, as really.. I took a step back and thought about this there are too many reasons to not do it right now.

1. I don’t have the time to go out with someone or think of dating.
2. She isn’t the right girl for me after all, looking at her profile and other things I’ve picked up.
3. There are more girls out there and dating isn’t what it’s cracked up to be.
4. I really don’t have to have a girl friend noir do I really need one right now.

and that is just a few… really overall it was kinda pointless to even think or post about this stuff, but oh well it was fun but not important right now.

Not to mention everyone I know who does have a girl friend, they never have time to do anything else.

So yeah thats my take on it, enjoy!

The Journey Into Dating

So.. thanks to some great friends, good thinking, some planing, and having some great faith, I’m finally going to do what I’ve been thinking.

So your wondering… “What is he talking about..”

Well here is the story:
There is this girl.. yeah a girl… so now you may be thinking well so what it’s a girl or your thinking Cody + girl = never… Well yeah but its bound to happen one of these days right? So I’ve been in a local furniture store a lot lately. This little store is owned by a family who has had the business for many many years. My family has all bought many things from this store over the years and well I needed a new bed so I went in the store and this young girl around 19/20ish age helped me, she was very very nice, very kind, very pretty and such, we did the paperwork, talked and she was impressed with my age and what I do and such and then I was on my way, not thinking twice about going out with her or anything right. So a few days past and then mother wanted to go back in the local store to look around and such and well this girl saw me walk in and she helped us right away and answered questions my mother had, etc and we were off, over the past week or two I’ve been back in there a few times and finally my mother made up her mind and got the stuff she wanted and just like last time this girl helped us and was just as nice as before and was always right there to help us instead of the other employees who are also family. So that went good and that stuff will be here this next Monday. So all this is leading somewhere I promise ;). I got to thinking more and more after all of this, been talking to close friends about it and such and well I’ve came to a grand idea. I’m going to ask her out! Keep in mind this is all new to me, yeah I’m 18, half-way to 19 and I’ve never dated a girl, most I asked out during school times always turned me down and such, for one reason or another. So now I’ve made up my mind I’m going to go back in there and tell her this: “You know I’ve been coming in here these past few weeks and you’ve been so great to me and I would feel really bad if I didn’t take you to dinner”. So.. think it will work? I dunno my friends think it will and I really hope it will if not there are more “fish in the sea” as one friend put it. So no loss if it doesn’t go as planned but I’m all giddy about it and well it’s all new you know. So some of you out there are probably laughing at me but hey you know it’s new to me, I’m not some crazy gotta-have-a-girl type of person you know. So we shall see how it goes and well I hope well. Thanks for the support from the friends that helped and I will listen to all comments you guys post! Wish me luck!

I’m not dead!!! Jeez…

Why is it every time I’m super busy and I’m not online a ton people think I’m dead? Seriously?

Anyhow I’ve been super busy, new clients each week, I tell you running a full-time business is no where close to easy. Not to mention my other side projects I have as well.

Social services such as IRC, MySpace, Facebook, etc are time consuming and a distraction thus I don’t try to bother with them while I’m busy, its just another distraction. So if I’m not around just check my Twitter or check here, I’m bound to update either, I try to update blog every 2 weeks and twitter every day to every few days if I’m really busy.

So yeah.. now you know :), with this said off to finish dinner and get back to work.

Busy Busy Busy....

Man have I been really busy these past few days! It being the weekend I thought to have it off, of course not ;)

Anyhow to recap over the past few days, I did get another server and got most of it setup and ready to go. I got a little more work done on cBlogger. I got more client work done, still have 4 more to do, as of this second.

cBlogger Theme In 15 Minutes

Just to show you how easy it is, last night I looked for a theme that was prebuilt, so I headed over to www.styleshout.com/ and found their Colourise template. I downloaded it and in fifteen minutes had a working theme for cBlogger with no headaches! It’s that simple!

cBlogger’s New Theme System

cBlogger 2 has a new Theme system, this new system allows creators to easily take there complex html/css files and make them into themes that they can deploy with ease.

Not only can you make them easily but you can also manage, install, and uninstall themes with ease.

cBlogger allows you to build your theme using predefined {variable} sets that are highly documented, without dealing with major blocks of php code. You can then upload a .zip to the server or upload the raw files, then use the installer to install the theme into your site, after you do that, you can activate it and presto your theme is live.

Now without said it is that simple, you do have to follow a few simple guidelines with building the theme, but its not complex and it is easy to follow. The cBlogger website will provide full documentation on theming as well as a video series on it.

DVD & Commercial Project Updates

Most of you know by now that I’m working on a special media project. This project is a DVD Series based on a how to series that a friend of mine is writing. However we are also doing a thirty second commercial for it that will air nationally. I’ve been working close with my friend to make this project happen and I’ve met some good connections through it as well. I shall speak of that later *grins*. But none the less it has been another great project so far and I can’t wait to see it completed!

cBlogger Updates

I’ve been working quite hard lately to get the next release of cBlogger out to the public and figured out my end goal with the whole project.

Now that I’ve done that and development is getting close to a stable point for release I plan to have out the next version (2.1) out soon.

Up until now cBlogger hasn’t been public but soon it will be, I can’t tell you how excited I am to bring it to the public and many others are quite happy about it as well. It may be light weight in some areas and better designed from a code point in others but it will defiantly make up for it. Plus with a advanced, high impact commercial version in the planning stages, its sure to meet your needs in more ways than one.

With that said, here is a (leaked) shot of the current admin dashboard, keep in mind everything is still in development :).

So, today I got a email from a family member, you know one of those emails that gets passed to tons of people. It was titled “A True Floridian”, so I read it, like it do every email of its type. Sad thing is its true, I can relate or agree 100% to almost every single thing listed in it, so I guess I am a true floridian! Anyhow here is the email, note its kinda long.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A FLORIDIAN IF.....

So, to go with the last update: I fixed the CSS issue with posts and such.

I’ve just been so busy I haven’t had time to post anything new. Between doing a few meetings for this project I’ve been on for months, to a new possibility hoping to arise, to new things being done with my business.

So with that said, not much I can tell about that is going on. Most of the stuff is.. well just I don’t feel comfortable releasing on the blog. Plus after what recently happened last weekend I’ve started to take a closer look at who I associate with and who I help, so issues like that don’t happen again.

Anyhow, I’ll try to post more updates when and where I can on the status of current projects.

Sparse Updates?

A fair warning… I’m not dead..

So, last time I was away for a few weeks everyone freaked out and though the worst and thought I was dead, etc.

Well I’m not and this may happen a bit for the next few weeks. I will be working on a big film project and will be at the new studios in tampa shooting and working with my new crew on this project. So if I’m not around, well you now know why, I’m not dead just busy. At nights when I am back at home or when I’m not editing then I’ll of course try my best to post updates and be on IRC, etc.

Network & Office Changes

So I’ve spent the bulk of today on about 4 hours of sleep and well.. redoing my network and office. So far the bulk of the network changes are now done. Here’s an idea of the setup before changes:

This has now really changed the way the network works and my new server is a lot faster than the previous. However I will say moving from the apple router to a new hardware firewall system is a lot better and my internet is more stable and reliable now, not to mention my connection seams faster.

Freelancer Back In Town?

Hey guys, I'm back as being a freelancer again, just today alone I've already scored two simple jobs making more in a day then I did in this past week, plus its back to what I love doing. So for all of you wondering what happened? Well basically in simple terms I quit the job I was working, after three weeks it just wasn't what I wanted to do, the hours were too long for me and I was constantly tired and could never have the time to do the other things in my life that mattered to me. I won't get into detail of all of my reasons that made up my mind to leave, however I'll leave it put as, iQuit, and now I'm back in action as a freelancer again. So right now I'm working on Sundance, which is a tool for the podcast COTG, This tool will allow the creator of this podcast to manage the many talents and parts of his show in a nice, clean, intuitive interface. The idea for this tool, and its name came from the creator of said podcast.

The past 24 hours have been interesting and are still going on, all 20+ domains hosted with my company CPC Designs are down. I'm in the process of redoing the main server and during that time some sites will be offline, they are all slowly coming back online. However most clients knew ahead of time of this downtime. So over the past week has been our annual county fair. As always one of the companies I work for provides the power for the fair. So we have to be there during the time its open, just incase something is to go out. (breakers do blow when they get hot). So for all of those who have been wondering where I've been, and why I haven't been around, now you know. However soon more stuff like this will be going on and you will see less and less of me than you did before. So pass this post along when someone is wondering where I am ;). New Projects & More

So whats been going on with me over the past 4 weeks or so?

Well.. I've been working on a lot of new projects; while working on quite a few old ones. The forum software was restarted a few weeks ago and is actively being worked on, along with me finishing a clients site, starting two other clients and fixing to start on a third. Business is doing well, I just finished my own client/invoicing/billing software to help manage all of the daily business paperwork. I may later on port this software from web/php to a Native OS X (Cocoa) Application, not 100% sure yet though.

Other than that stuff really nothing else has been going on other then general, fun, life stuff that would bore you readers I'm sure.

Models & Me

With my new venture into RoR and Ruby programing, I've started to work more closely to the Standard MVC structure. The framework for PHP that I use now does a great job at this however it is very flexible and isn't strict with MVC like RoR is. So here lately I've been learning to use models and keep the controllers clean, working on the aspect of Fat Model, Slim Controller So with that said I've learned to do a lot in models and really make tasks that I repetitively do; not so repetitive. So like I said here is a prime example of making things easier now with pagination config and it keeps it a lot cleaner in my controller which is the goal; a controller is a Junction Box not a junk pile.

Well this blog was one of my first CI projects and as you see could use work big time and its one site I kinda neglect to update so with that said I need a small quick project to work on. So! Just like most ISP's and Cable providers I thought mine after all these years was going to never come out with anything wrong, man was I wrong!

They have now completely redone the entire 999 channel line up. Not only do I get a ton of channels already and I'm not paying anything extra over the normal Digital Cable prices but now we have the full channel line up with a lot of new and moved around channels. But we have this new feature that is just awesome! Simply put its basically "Server-Side-DVR", what happens is well here is a real example: I was flipping TV and saw the show "cops" on TBS channel 23 and it was like 6:45PM the second I went to the channel it pops up a notice similar to the on-screen caller id that already comes up when someone calls and it said "Please press select to start this program over" You press it and yes right then and there it restarts that program over on demand! It's awesome because ALOT of channels do it I've noticed and really really good for the free movie channels. I think it's pretty cool, dunno what you guys think though. I mean what other service do you know has SSDVR and allows you to do this for free on most channels?

As I sit back listening to my great friend Chris Bjerken and knocking out some more code before my vacation. I think that overall today wasn't bad even know I had a lot of tech issues and I was really tired. But hey at least I have good news right? Apple has agreed to fully replace my defective iMac with a new one! That now means my warranty starts over since its been 33 days since purchase, which is good. I'm just happy they are going to replace it and hopefully this new one will be "bug free" I hope. So I'll be without it a week but hey... its worth it, I have another mac and I'll probably be gone at vacation while its processing and shipping out. So I'll post more later lads, enjoy life, cya!

Well.. Just what we wanted... more problems out of facebook. Well they suck! I used to like facebook and really I still due but now that their staff blows, then I kinda hate them now. Lets just say that even know I went through all the crap they wanted me to go through and now that my legit business is added to their listing I still can't get my account back till I'm 18 which is such bull. So needless to say I'm sticking with my own networks and telling all other social networks to STFU! :)

Facebook decided to disable my account because I asked them to change my born year from 1988 to 1989. I used 1988 when I signed up to bypass the high school thing since I was home schooled. Well I wanted it fixed. Instead they disabled my account for it and won't get back to me now... grr....! So hopefully soon I hear back from them!

iMac update 3

So apparently this last line of iMac's that came out are all having the same issue mine is having. Apple knows about this issue and is trying to find a fix. So now its just the waiting game until the patch or recall comes out. So in the mean time back to my normal stuff on my other computers until its fixed. iMac Update 2

Okay so second update, the Leopard thing didn't go as planned since the most recent copy I have is a old copy and well don't feel like getting a new copy. So I'm installing Tiger back and I found out from a mac friend who works real closely with Apple products that there is firmware updates for the iMacs from Apple that they didn't put into system update. So anyways more updates to do as soon as the system is back up. Cheers guys!

Okay iMac update! I got the new iMac and I've had a few issues. Apparently the new Intel iMac's (aluminum) made in the past month does not work well with the Tiger display drivers. (There are thousands (no joke) of people on the apple forums who are having issues with this.) So with that said Apple should release a update to fix this for Tiger in a few weeks. In the mean time I'm installing a pre-release of Leopard to see if it has different display drivers and could fix my issue for now. If so and it runs perfect than I will consider purchasing Leopard when it comes out in a few weeks. So that is about it for now guys, cheers!

Well life has been pretty good lately. wait.. am I joking.. life hasn't been its best... needless to say from dad getting hurt twice in the past week to other issues its like.. damn... well as far as my stuff goes.. Web stuff has been going great lately, I've gotten most of my sites done and online, one other major site which is Thinstack will be online soon, so this will be great. I'm also starting on HiPPstr* soon and this site will take alot of work but none the less will be great in the end. So as far as updates thats about it for now I'll try to update this more offten :). Also as far as my shows go, I will not start Hackcom Netcast back up, I won't be doing season 2 of Hackcom or Production View if I do not get better equipment. Sorry to the viewers of the shows but they cost me alot and I get zero in return but money isn't the case I don't mind spending because I love doing media but I just can't afford better equipment and what I have just doesn't make the cut no way I can compete with the other bigger shows out there with what I have now. So anyways leave comments if you have other opinions or sugestions. More updates soon I hope.

The hype over the iPhone, is it worth it?

I'm sure you know by now that the Apple iPhone is out, if you don't then man you are living under a huge rock, the iPhone has been all over the news but is it really worth the price? I bet you its not worth it, after seeing how "cheap" but some what smartly-made it is from watching systm over at rev3, it's not that apealing to me anymore. They are using AT&T as their cell/data provider for the iPhone and as you all know AT&T sucks and always has sucked. Let alone the phone is fully tied to AT&T, some have managed to unlock the iPhone and do other things do it including hacking the firmware but really the phone is useless without the AT&T service. The iPhone is sold out in most AT&T stores now and I'm not sure how the Apple stores are doing but they are probably running out as well, which sucks in the end for the consumer when they find out how bad it really is. I may try one but heh as long as they are on AT&T then I don't want one. Overall the hype in the end isn't what Apple made it out to be. Most of the time I love Apple and their great products but they would have been better off making a good PDA/iPod and sold it for alot less then a Phone/iPod that is expensive and useless in the end. Your smart if you didn't buy one and if you did well.. your probably going to regret doing so. So thats my take on the Apple iPhone.

General Update

Well I guess I should keep this updated more :). Lately I've been real busy with clients and such for my new business so I haven't had time to post anything. So with that said lets update :).

The puppy I had died after being sick for a week.

My Mom got out of the hospital and has been doing great since then.

My shows are doing "okay" but I may have to drop a few of them due to lack of time and content.

Overall everything right now is grand and doing great and so far business is great as well.

Mother in hospital

Mom is still in the hospital after having bad chest pains yesterday, she will be there a few more days and they are still runing ton's of tests trying to figure out whats going on with her. I hope that she will be alright. On top of all of this I have alot of sites to get done and now one of my dogs is also sick and has to goto the vet today. So.. one thing after another now it seams. Website Issues

If you have any issues with the website please comment back to this post. I know the site should be working fine in Firefox and IE7. I know opera users have issues with the javascript's on the site. But.. I want to know if any IE6 or any other browsers are having any issues with the site. Also if you can't get the comments to work for some reason than just email me at cpccody(at)codypchristian.net. Here is a link to a shot of the site and how it SHOULD look. Website Screenshot

So, today has been a tad slow I might say, I have been doing alot of non-tech stuff lately thus I haven't been blogging or doing anything else tech wise lately. But I figured I'll at least make a post :). So anyways, a few pages should be updated soon. Cheers

So Its Sunday

It's Sunday and I'm real bored, I just jumped on the computers to see if anything worth while is going on, but really nothing is going on. I need to work on a few of my sites but I really don't want to. Today is just like a "Blah" type of lazy day. Yet I wanna do something... How ever today is the first time I have been in this room messing with tech this weekend with the exception of restarting router yesterday after the ISP upgrade. Now that I think about it, I'm either gonna continue to sit here doing nothing or I'm going to go outside and do something. So anyways, I guess I'll leave you with.... ( Cody left the room )

Well.. it's 3:20AM and IRC is dead and well the forums are too at this point... I haven't released any new vlogs lately and well.. I'm tired! I totaly forgot about taping the netcast last night so no episode this week. Overall been a long day and I did start to learn Ruby on Rails and it's pretty damn nice :) So.. I'm going to bed, see you all later!

Live Cam Back Up

Now thanks to a new service called ustream.tv I can have my live camera live again and I really like this service alot better then the old way I broadcasted it. Keep in mind the cam may not Always be live but most of the time it should be. Check it out here on the Live page.
