This is our podcast featuring discussions with upcoming and notable figures in the small press community including printers, publishers, bloggers and, of course, poets and writers.

In this episode, Mike speaks with poet Ellaraine Lockie.

Ellaraine's first love in literature is poetry, but she is also an avid traveler, essayist, workshop instructor and nonfiction book author. In addition to numerous awards and nominations for her writing, Ellaraine shares her love of the craft with up and coming poets through her work as a judge and sponsor of poetry contests, participation in mentoring programs, and through teaching workshops on poetry and the creative process in libraries, schools, community programs and writing groups.

All that's old is new again this issue thanks to the addition of Charles Ries as our Poetry Editor. Charles worked hard to present you with a fresh selection of poets both new and familiar this issue, including works by G. Scott Hughes, John Grey, E.V. Noechel, Ellaraine Lockie and Sharmagne Leland-St. John.

Co-host of our podcast, Coffee House to Go, LB Sedlacek kicks off the short fiction with her piece, "The Echo of Lima Beans". Reader favorite Bob Potocki contributes his story, "Remembrance" followed by Jonathan Scott's "Reception". I'm also proud to present the continuation of Angela Mankiewicz's short, "Laura Hanson's 1990".

With us since the beginning, Paul Tucker continues his illustrated story "Vex" on page 25 and Jonathan Scott's illustrations can be found within his own short story as well as this issue's cover.

In our Reading Lounge, Poetry Editor Charles Ries contributes a new chapbook review as well as an interview with author Michael Graves.

Open to all. Poems, any subject and style, up to 20 lines. Previously unpublished and the work of the author. Deadline for entries: 31 May 2007. Entry fee £1 per poem. Prize £50. Winning poem published on website. Copyright remains with author.

RULES

The competition is open to all.

Poems should not exceed 20 lines, should be in English and on any subject, and in either rhyming or free verse.

Poems should be the original work of the author and not previously published -copyright remains with the author.

The winning poem will be published on the website.

Entries cannot be returned under any circumstances so keep a copy.

Judge's decision is final. No correspondence will be entered into.

FORMAT
Entries typed on one side of A4 paper but should not include the name of the author. Name and address (and email if possible) of the author, together with the title of the poem submitted should be enclosed on a separate sheet of paper.

FEE
Please enclose with your entry the fee of £1 sterling (or 1.30 Euros) for each poem submitted. Sterling or Euro cheques only please, made payable to E Auld. Send entries to: Auld, Mizzmouse, Le Chateau, Quartier du Bois, 64190 Navarrenx, France.

This Year's Topic: "Who's Pimpin' My Generation...?"

Gangsters, pimps, hustlers, half-naked women – the images are all familiar. TV shows, movies, videos, video games – we’ve all seen how these representations of minority life and culture are celebrated in the media, but now the issue has gotten much more serious...with the
growing popularity of "Gangsta Parties" being held on college campuses across the country, these images have taken a turn for the worse, and are now being turned on those they supposedly represent. The real questions now are: who is responsible for the creation and
proliferation of these images? Are they exaggerated images that perpetuate age-old stereotypes, or do they really reflect a deeper reality?

Tell us your thoughts on the current state of hip-hop imagery – specifically addressing the following points:

- Who/Where does it really come from?
- How does it affect you personally?
- How does it reflect your generation in the eyes of overall society?
- How can the current tide of negative imagery be turned in a more
positive direction?

Contest open to 9th through 12th grade matriculated and home-schooled students who are U.S. citizens. Entry fee: $5. All essays must be the original sole work of the entrant. All essays must be postmarked no later than Friday, May 25th. Winners will be notified by no later than
Friday, July 13th.

Winners will be announced in July via nationwide press release, on Urban Echoes's website, and in Urban Echoes's quarterly newsletter. Urban Echoes will also make special announcements for school-wide distribution at winners' respective schools. Winners available by SASE if provided.
