On January 3rd the United States mint started selling the 2011 Silver Eagle Bullion Coins. Buyers bought close to 1,700,000 of the .999 fine bullion coins on the very first business day of the year, based on the US Mint’s published sales figures! The Silver Eagle (also known as the American Silver Eagle) is the official silver bullion coin for the United States. They are only found as one-troy ounce silver rounds and is 99.9% pure silver. The coin’s obverse is the “Walking Liberty” design which first appeared on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar coin from 1916 to 1947. The reverse contains the heraldic eagle and shield.

Silver Eagles first appeared in 1986 and are still minted today. Silver Eagles appeal to silver investors as well as to the general coin collecting public.
