This video covers portions of the release ceremony that revealed for the first time the designs for the 2010 America the Beautiful Quarters.

"Through America the Beautiful Quarters coins, we will be transported to national parks, forests and wildlife refuges, part of a vast public land legacy belonging to all Americans-natural and cultural treasures protected for our recreation, relaxation, education, inspiration and transformation," U.S. Mint Director Moy said at the event on March 24, 2010 at the Newseum Museum in Washington, DC.

The 2010 quarters are the first from the United States Mint America the Beautiful Quarters Program, which will feature 56 new coins designs from 2010-2021 that honor National Parks and other National sites in each state, the District of Columbia and United States Territories.

Up for honors this year is Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas, Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, Yosemite National Park in California, Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona and Mount Hood National Forest in Oregon.

Mr. Moy was joined by Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar, U.S. Treasurer Rosie Rios, Congressman Mike Castle and Under Secretary of Agriculture for Natural Resources and the Environment Harris Sherman.

Congress passed the America’s Beautiful National Parks Quarter Dollar Coin Act of 2008, which authorized the series. The act was introduced on June 4, 2008, by Rep. Mike Castle.

Shown in this video is a quick glance of the One Ounce Palladium Maple Leaf Coin from the Royal Canadian Mint. Palladium Maples were first issued in 2005 but were not available in 2008. Returning to the market again this year, the coins have stirred the interest of many collectors.

"Just documenting this coin," says the narrator as he finishes cutting the Palladium Maple Leaf from its bag. "I like the textured finish."

The person making the video then takes some time to compare the Maple Leaf with a One Ounce Silver Philharmonic from the Austrian Mint and a Silver Kookaburra from the Perth Mint of Australia.

Once again, this is just a quick glance at the coin, but it does give you an idea of the size and the texture of the coin.

This is a nice promotional video of the U.S. Virgin Islands Quarter release ceremony on September 28th, 2009. The coin was issued as part of the 2009 D.C. and U.S. Territories Quarter Program from the United States Mint.

Laced with quick sound bites, it does give a nice indicator of the excitement many in the islands felt over having a quarter honoring their territory.

"Today marks the culmination of an almost 12 year effort to have the U.S. Virgin Islands recognized as part of the U.S. Mint's program that promotes the uniqueness of our country and the persistency and history of its states, and now its territories," exclaimed Donna M. Christensen, delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives.

This is part 2 of 2 videos featuring Dr. Richard Doty of the Smithsonian Institution talking at the World's Fair of Money in 2007. Dr. Doty is discussing the renaissance of American coinage that occurred in the first half of the 20th century.

Dr. Doty switches gears a bit in this segment to talk about the re-introduction of silver coinage in the 1920's.

"It had been determined to resume the coinage of silver dollars, and word was sent out to prepare new dies and new designs," explains the Smithsonian's Dr. Doty. "...the result was both commercial and commemorative, it's called the Peace Dollar."

Doty continues to explain the design process of the Peace Dollar and the history behind it. Then conversation turns from the circulating coinage to commemorative. Doty leaves us with his opinion that the finest commemorative of that early era was the Oregon Half Dollar.

This video does not relate directly to any coins, but does involve someone with significant ties to American coinage. Mrs. Rae Biester, former Superintendent of the US Mint in Philadelphia appears on the classic game show - What's My Line.

Obviously the panel is dumbfounded as to what her profession might be, and we get some crazy questions from them as they try to find out what Mrs. Biester did for a living. Some of the queries included:

"Am I right in thinking you are not a marriage counselor?"

"Is this a product that can be used by men and women?"

"Is it useful?"

This is definitely worth a few minutes, just for the laughs.

Dr. Richard Doty of the Smithsonian Institution is shown here with part 1 of his presentation on the Renaissance of American Coinage. It was taken at the World's Fair of Money in 2007.

"It is unclear," starts of Dr. Doty from the Smithsonian, "whether Teddy Roosevelt wanted to reform all United States coinage, including minor coinage. It seems plausible, although we can't be certain."

"St. Gaudens, of course, was tapped for gold coinage ...whether intended or not, Theodore Roosevelt and Augustus St. Gaudens started nothing short of a revolution and a renaissance of American numismatic art."

Doty continues to explain how the entire line of American coinage was changed for the better following the Roosevelt-St. Gaudens pairing, even if most changes occurred after St. Gaudens death and Roosevelt's departure from the office of President of the United States. A noted example brought up by Doty is the "Indian Head" or "Buffalo" nickel.

This is a short CBS news segment with Katie Couric talking about the cost of producing a penny. The segment aired in May of 2008 and discusses not only the costs involved, but a few possible options to solve the issue.

"If you've got some extra time on your hands, you might want to dig into your sofa cushions for spare change," said Katie Couric at the start of the episode. "Because it turns out its worth more than you thought. It now costs nearly 1.7 cents to make a penny and seven and a half cents to make a nickel."

Couric says the US Mint lost nearly 100 million dollars in 2007 by producing the pennies and nickels.

This video is an episode of Deconstructed and it shows them taking apart a coin changer mechanism from a vending machine. For those that are always asking the question "how does that work?", this video will answer that question for the coin mechanism.

According to the video, the changer utilizes two different processes to correctly identify what denomination of coinage is being used.

"It's (the coin changer) made up of a circuit board and three compartments. One where the coin is identified, a second where they're sorted and a third where the coins are stored," says the video narrator.

From this point, they take a mechanism out of a soda machine and take it apart to show how it works. While obviously there are different styles of coin changer mechanisms, this does give a nice overview of what generally occurs.

This is a video preview of the World's Fair of Money Show that occurred in August 2009 in Los Angeles. Although in the past, the video provides an idea of ANA shows in general. A few people were interviewed, most notably Executive Director of the American Numismatic Association Larry Shepherd.

The video was shot by PCGS, and the first part is essentially a promotion for the show. They do mention that in their booth they were going to showcase the Leningrad Dutch Flying Eagle Cent Collection as well as the Dwight N. Manley Massachusetts Silver Shilling Design Set.

The last few minutes of the video is an interview of Shepherd.

"We think that the ANA summer show is, and should be, the biggest and best coin show in the nation in a given year," states Larry Shepherd, ANA Executive Director. "We're pulling out all stops this year to add what we call the WOW factor...For example, earlier this year I worked out a partnership arrangement with the Smithsonian Institute."

The Smithsonian was scheduled to bring out several coins for the display including an 1849 $20 Gold Piece, which Shepherd says may be the most valuable coin ever struck by the Mint. Also listed were St. Gaudens and all five of the known 1913 Liberty Nickels.

This is a video of Rep. Mark Steven Kirk speaking in support of the Medal of Honor Commemorative Coin Act of 2009, which was jointly introduced in a bipartisan approach by fellow Rep. Christopher Carney. The legislation passed in the U.S. House of Representatives on May 14, 2009. It passed in the U.S. Senate on Oct. 22, 2009.

That act authorizes the United States Mint to strike up to 500,000 $1 silver coins and 100,000 $5 gold coins in proof and uncirculated conditions in 2011.

The coin designs will be "emblematic of the traditions, legacy, and heritage of the Medal of Honor, and the distinguished service of its recipients in the Nation's history." The coins will include motifs that represent the 3 Medal of Honor designs (Army, Navy, and Air Force) and specifically honor the Medal of Honor recipients of both today and yesterday.

"We owe everything to those who wore the uniform and committed extraordinary acts of bravery in defense of their colleagues and nation," said 19-year Navy veteran Congressman Kirk following the bill's passage in the House. "This legislation will help the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation in its efforts to preserve and promote the ideals of our nation's highest military honor. I'm honored to partner with my colleague and fellow veteran Congressman Chris Carney to support those who represent the very best of America."

The Medal of Honor was first authorized by Congress back in 1861 and is the highest award for valor a member of the military can receive for actions against an enemy. Because of its requirements, fewer than 3,500 of the medals have ever been issued, most of them posthumously. Today, there are only 97 living recipients.

Surcharges of $10 for the silver coin and $35 for the gold coin will be included in each sale to be paid to the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation to help fund its initiatives.
