God’s Church is desperate for good leaders; people who are willing to learn the principles, nitty gritty skills and discipline it takes to lead. God loves raising up faithful women and men to lead ministries, businesses, churches, small groups, and communities—they all need effective, Godly leaders. You don’t have to be born a natural leader, you just have to care enough and accept the challenge to serve.
Why Coker and Why Now?
Large churches have seen the need for faith-based leadership programs designed for members that want to experience the challenges and opportunities facing churches, community organizations, other non-profits, and faith-based organizations. Coker is starting such a leadership development program which is being offered in conjunction with Asbury Theological Seminary. We believe that Coker’s mission of Leading people to love God, serve others in the way of Jesus, and change the world through the power of the Holy Spirit requires that we develop Biblically grounded Christian leaders for our church and our city. Once a participant has completed the program there is no expectation of them other than that they will live out the principles learned as Christian leader in the church and the world. It is our hope that many will become official leaders within our church and that others will be able to take what they have learned into their industry and/or area of influence and feel more equipped to be the leaders God is asking them to be.
Coker Leadership Institute
Dr. Ed Stetzer says, “God’s people need leaders to help reach the world, influence culture, and inspire true change.” If that sounds like something you want to do, this course is for you. The course is 1 year in duration and has a cost of $1,000 paid to Asbury. The program will be led by top scholars in the discipline of Christian Leadership from Asbury Theological Seminary. Those who complete the program will be awarded a Certificate in Christian Leadership from Asbury. The experience will include an opening retreat, online course content, small group meetings, and journal work. The application deadline for the 2019-2020 school year was July 7th. The class is limited to 25 participants. Once applications are reviewed, interviews may be held with Leadership Development Committee in order to select the 25 participants. Finalists and those not selected for this class will be notified by a letter from Pastor Adam. Those that were not selected for this class are encouraged to apply again the following year.
If you missed the deadline and/or are unable to attend the 2019-2020 school year, but you are interested in the 2020-2021 school year- you may submit a letter of interest via e-mail to Pastor Adam, and you will be notified when the application period opens for the upcoming year.
