Community. It is not a weekly activity. It is a way of life.

But it is hard to get people with abilities in touch with people who have needs and it’s hard to get people to come together and rally around those with needs, as they crop up.

Volunteer management can be overwhelming, but it doesn’t need to be.

TheCommon.org is a tool for communities that creates an element of shared leadership and purpose. Beyond that all you need is people with needs and people with abilities.

Organizations can also blend together and you can interconnect with Facebook and Twitter.

I am thinking about ways that The Common and Communitas Collective can work together, join with other services, and create a better sense of community by allowing people in our communities to their post needs and abilities. This could be a piece of what I have been looking for to take what we do to the next level and make it more real and interpersonal.

Good news! You can have free and complete access to TheCommon.org for two months by using this discount coupon code, "communitas621"

Just go to TheCommon.org and enter the code "communitas621" when you register your community account. Add members to your movement and partner with other communities. It's simple to get started and there are some great resources to help you along the way.</itunes:summary><itunes:author>Glenn Hager </itunes:author><itunes:explicit>no</itunes:explicit><itunes:duration>41:24</itunes:duration><media:content url="http://communitascollective.com/podcasts/colective062811.mp3" fileSize="25741771" type="audio/mpeg" /><description>Service. I threw my notes away and this is what happened. By the way, I am glad I did! I love it when there is the light of discovery and spark of the divine in the midst of conversation. That’s why I am such a proponent of interaction, verses constantly lining our chairs up in rows to listen to professionals.

We discovered that we are beginning a conspiracy of love! This conspiracy invites people to the table with no entrance requirements and it pays special attention to those who usually don’t get invitations.

It's really just  living out the life of Jesus. It is fulfilling what he called the second greatest commandment, loving our neighbor which is like the first... loving God.

This conversation with Erik and all of his talk about unconditional love and love fractals helped to further define what Communitas Collective is all about.

You are invited to the table to be co-conspirators in this conspiracy of love. It's going to be exciting to see how it develops.

I wanted to do this program with my 87-year-old uncle for a number of reasons. He is totally engaging and winsome and the way he lives teaches me some important lessons. Like…

Live well and you will finish well. I have been around people who were at the end of their life a lot. That goes with being a pastor all of those years and with just the age that I am. I have learned almost without exception that those who were ornery or self-centered in midlife were terrors for their family by the time they reached old age. But those who were kind and considerate usually finished the same way.

Stay involved with people. Relationships give our life meaning and are essential for our emotional health; even though sometimes people drive us crazy. Isolation just doesn’t work well. I think it causes our eccentricities to take over when we spend too much time alone.

Find something to do that you really like. We all need something to do other the than dishes and doctors visits.

Just for the heck of it I included some of the after program conversation with my cousin, and second cousins who were at Uncle Romey's. This is  special family!

Here is one of my favorite shows to date. Erik introduced me to the concept of criticizing by creating and I don’t know anyone who does that better than Jim. He coins new words and even birthed a new religion; Otherlyness.

Jim grew up in the entertainment world, did several years as a pastor, and now he finds ways to take Jesus public. He also got me thinking about shame and what happens when we are freed from it.

Stories from the Shack is a fascinating, non-preachy, touching, provocative piece of entertainment. Please check 0ut the video and links below.

We also talked about those transitions in the way we believe that result in deep, personal questions related to our faith. Some of those transitions can put a real strain on relationships with people that are very close to us and that led to an important discussion on the show.

My goal is to get to something that is real and core to the guest, because those are the things that other people can relate to and are helpful to them. This show really came through, in that regard. I hope you find it helpful (and fun).

Check out Craig's work at Quadrid Productions, The Outsider Interviews, and Recycle Your Faith.

Pine Ridge Billboard Project by Aaron Huey

Doug Napier (pictured on the left) is part a Lakota Sioux jewelery maker who has an idea that will help people learn a trade, have a chance for more normal life, and regain hope.

Aaron Huey is a world renowned photo journalist who visited the Pine Ridge Reservation because it was the poorest place on the continent and he kept going back and became consumed by what has happened to these people.

Ramona Whitebloom is the Executive Director of Wakanyeja Pawicayapi (The Children First), which helps Lakota youth regain a sense of identity and skills to deal with the intergenerational trauma that they deal with every day.

Erik Guzman, our own Merry Monk of Love, has a way of getting actively involved when it comes to helping people who others overlook and he is raising money to help out the Lakota.
