Dropbox is one of the better services I've seen for online free storage. The program that comes with this service makes it so simple to upload files from your computer. You simply drag and drop any file you want into the dropbox folder and thats it, the program takes care of the rest! Your files are synced online and are accessible from any computer. This could be a lifesaver for some of your computer decides to crash and burn. I use this service to save work files and to share files with other co-workers. Last time I checked T-mobile offers student discounts on monthly bills. I'm getting 15% off my monthly bill for being a student at UCSB. All you need is a school email and some kind of identification number. I had to be persistent and ask twice before getting the discount when I called in, so if they are a little sketchy about it at first, call again!

For those you who don't have T-mobile. It wouldn't hurt to ask your provider about student discounts. You never know they might just have some kind of discount. It sucks for me that it took me about six years to realize this. :-( Loss of profit....

UPDATE: If your school doesn't qualify for the T-mobile discount, you can purchase the Student Advantage card for $20 and obtain the discount using this card.

Save money on College Books

The best way to save money on college books is to buy in advance. My first instinct is usually to check for international versions of the books I need. The international version of a book tends to be way cheaper and also has the same content as the hard cover books. The best website I've found for cheap books is www.dealoz.com . DealOz checks many book websites and finds the cheapest price.

Make money from your find.
The book store at my school takes advantage of students when it comes to book prices. I purchased a book from the bookstore only once in college, I felt ripped off once I looked online and I havent bought from our bookstore ever since. I've saved hundreds of dollars shopping online. If you find your book online for a really cheap price, it pays off to purchase more than one copy to sell in class. This requires some work and money on your part but it pays off and its a good way to make extra money. What I do is purchase a couple of copies of the book I need. Before class starts I post flyers in the class I am taking and sell the books for more. Easy right? :-D? This pays off my books and I make money. If you were really ambitious you could do your research for other classes that have a cheap book online and post flyers for those classes. You basically end up profiting from peoples laziness or inability to find cheap books online. Profit!

For those familiar with Google Voice’s amazing services, there is one key feature missing that would it truly amazing service. This feature would be the scheduling of text messages. I was not able to find one solid solution to this problem even after I searched the internet for hours. However, Google Voice has recently acquired a new feature which allows you to forward text messages to an email, thus, making it possible to schedule text messages.

In order to set this up, you must first enable “SMS Forwarding” under the caller settings of the Google Voice.

The second step is to create a free account at lettermelater.com . This service allows you to schedule emails that are sent out at any desired time in the future. It is fairly straight forward and scheduling can be done through your own E-mail provider. The website provides an easy to follow tutorial.

The last step is not so trivial since I have not found a way to send someone a text message without being messaged first, the reason being that there isn't a simple address for a phone number. It seems like it is randomly assigned by Google Voice. But suppose someone messages you, the forwarded SMS message will look something like this in your email:

"John Doe (SMS)" <1805555555.13233333333.S53-xDvQvn@txt.voice.google.com> .

The first number corresponds to your Google Voice number and the second number is your contact. I'm not quite sure what the random number and letters represent in the third spot. After you acquire this address you can assign it to your contact as their SMS address and begin using lettermelater.com to schedule text messages.
