In the United States, about 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during her lifetime. When defending against this disease, surgery is usually the foremost treatment.
There are basically 3 (three) surgical procedures employed in the treatment of breast cancer. Selecting the proper surgery is based on the type, size, and placement of the tumor. Every attempt is made to conserve as much breast tissue as possible without jeopardizing the life of the patient.
