Recently, people are paying more attention to what they eat in a bid to stay healthy. As a result, people are trying their best to increase their intake of foods we know are good for us like fruit and vegetables. Due to our desire to eat the best foods and to know more about what we eat, foods that we would never usually have heard of have come to prominence due to their health benefits. One example of this is the acai berry.

The acai berry originates from South America, with the small, dark purple fruit being compared to a grape in its appearance. The berry is known to have a number of health benefits due to its high fiber content. Because of its health benefits it has become a common ingredient in a number of weight loss diets and supplements such as resveratrol. The high fiber content of the acai berry means that it has also became a popular ingredient in some colon cleansing products. Colon cleansing products rid the intestine of any waste that may become stored there over time. The berry’s high fiber content means that it helps to improve bowel movements, making it easier for the waste to leave the body. As well as ridding the body of any excess waste, by improving bowel movements the risk of the body storing any more waste in the future is greatly reduced.

As well as helping to improve bowel movements, the acai berry has other characteristics that are important to colon cleansing products. This includes the high level of antioxidants found in the berry, which is a lot higher than the levels found in most other fruits. These antioxidants help rid the body of any harmful toxins or bacteria that may be present in the intestine and could cause illness. Antioxidants are also vital to maintain a person’s health, particularly due to their benefits to the immune system. Although each berry only produces a small amount of juice, it is extremely good at helping cleanse the body. Another benefit linked to the acai berry is that it is believed to slow down the ageing process. Although there is no real scientific evidence to confirm or deny this, it is thought that due to the high level of antioxidants found in the berry, the immune system and healing process are strengthened.

Whilst there are critics of the benefits and uses of colon cleansing products, everyone agrees that the acai berry does have a number of functions for the body. By providing the body with high amounts of antioxidants and fiber, the acai berry has received world wide acclamation for its benefits. Although it is known to help with colon cleansing, the real advantages of colon cleansing are yet to be proved. But with claims that colon cleansing can help reduce bloating and flatulence as well as treating diarrhea and constipation, lots of people continue to use these products. And due to the fact that the acai berry is safe, the numbers using products containing the berry continues to grow.

There are a number of different methods of colon cleansing, all performing the same task – clearing the intestine of waste and toxins. It is thought that these toxins and waste can be bad for the body, and so an increasing amount of people are turning to colon cleansing to get rid of them. The various methods of colon cleansing work in different ways to achieve this, whether it involves having it done by a professional to carrying it out on yourself at home.

Perhaps one of the most well known forms of colon cleansing, and the first to come to many people’s minds, is colonic irrigation also known as colonic hydrotherapy. This is an invasive procedure that is mainly a complimentary therapy only used by doctors in preparation for a procedure. There is no real scientific evidence for or against the benefits of this procedure, however it is known to be safe. This form of colon cleansing is carried out by a professional, inserting a solution into the large intestine through a tube inserted through a persons bottom. This method is preferred by some as it clears out most of the intestine. There are no real precautions that need to be taken to prepare for this procedure; however it is advisable not to eat or drink beforehand. It is also a good idea to consult your doctor if you suffer from any pre-existing medical conditions or are currently on medication.

Similar to a colonic is an enema. Again a soluble solution is added to the intestine, but only the lower intestine is affected. Like laxatives and supplements, an enema imitates natural movements of the bowel, however the enema is more natural than the others. Although it only clears some of the intestine, an enema is preferred by some people over a colonic as it can be performed at home on yourself or on someone else. It is also preferred as you are more in control of when the effects take place, unlike laxatives which can take effect any time, in any place!

Laxatives are one of the most common colon cleansers that are taken orally. They are usually prescribed as medication for conditions such as constipation as they empty your bowels, however they can be bought over the counter and come in a variety of forms. Bulk forming laxatives contain fiber and imitate natural bowel movements. Stimulant laxatives stimulate bowel movements whilst stool softeners are used to make it easier to pass stools. The most common form of laxative is as a mineral oil. Whilst laxatives can be good when suffering from constipation, if used too often they can cause the bowel to become ‘lazy’, and may also lead to a depletion of vitamins and minerals.

Natural supplements are made from completely natural ingredients. Whilst some people prefer these to supplements due to the fact they are 100% natural, some herbal combinations can be dangerous and so it is worth checking the ingredients list before buying. The main advantage of natural supplements is that they can be used at home and are effective over a period of just a few days. Similar to natural supplements in terms of use and results are colon cleanse supplements. These can also be used at home and again the ingredients should be checked before use.

Although the above mentioned methods of colon cleansing are different, they all perform the same functions, helping reduce bloating, wind, diarrhea and constipation. There is a method to suit everyone, and it is just a case of deciding which one most appeals to you.

Colon cleansing can take place in a number of different ways from colonic irrigation to enemas, and laxatives to herbal supplements, but they all perform the same job – ridding the intestine of excess waste and toxins. Whilst there has been no real research done on the advantages and disadvantages of colon cleansing, it is by and large thought to be a safe procedure. However, as with most things in life, it is best to show some common sense when it comes to preparing for colon cleansing. By following a few simple precautions the risk of any side effects or harm will be greatly reduced.

When purchasing colon cleansing and herbal supplements it is important to check what ingredients are included in the product. Whilst all the ingredients are safe, some combinations of ingredients (particularly herbal ingredients) can be dangerous. By doing a bit of research on each product you should be able to quickly find out which ones to use and which to ignore. It may also be a good idea to consult your doctor before going ahead with any colon cleansing procedure. This is particularly important if you have any pre-existing health problems or if you are currently on any medication. If you are considering colon cleansing as a treatment for constipation, it may be wise to try other methods first such as a high fiber diet and exercise. If this doesn’t work then colon cleansing could be the answer.

If you do decide to try colon cleansing, it is important to carefully consider all the options available to see which method is best for you. As well as checking the ingredients, it is important to be wary of any claims a product may claim such as ‘extreme weight loss’ or ‘prevents cancer’. Whilst colon cleansing can help weight loss to a certain extent and may have a role to play in the prevention of colon cancer, some of these claims are exaggerated for marketing purposes. By researching product names and reading customer reviews, you’ll soon be able to separate those that work from those that don’t. If you decide to use a form of colon cleansing carried out by someone else such as colonic irrigation, make sure that you choose a practitioner that has good experience and reviews. It is also important to choose one that uses disposable equipment as this is the most hygienic way to carry out the procedure.

Other than the points mentioned above, the only real way to prepare for colon cleansing is by drinking plenty of fluids. Due to the fact your intestine will be ‘flushed out’, your body will lose a lot of water and minerals and become dehydrated. By drinking fluids beforehand you reduce this risk of dehydration, and also make it easier for the body to rehydrate again after. By following these simple steps the process of colon cleansing should be a lot easier and a lot less daunting for those that have never experienced it before. And by preparing as best you can, you will be able to make the most of the results.

Colon cancer, also known as bowel cancer, is one of the most common forms of cancer. It normally affects people over the age of 40, and affects men and women equally. The cancer usually begins in the large intestine, caused by an abnormal growth of cells in the intestine wall, known as a tumor. There are a number of possible causes of bowel cancer with those with a family history of the disease and smokers being most at risk. There are a number of preventative measures that can be taken that have been scientifically proven to reduce the risk of colon cancer.

One of the most important factors when it comes to preventing colon cancer is a person’s diet. Diets high in processed foods, red meat and fat, as well as a lack of variety, have been found to increase the risk of developing cancer. Fruit and vegetables are important to help prevent a number of diseases due to their antioxidant properties. The vitamins and minerals found in fruit and vegetables are essential to help the body perform properly, and it is important to eat as wide a variety as possible in order to gain all the benefits from fruit and vegetables. Fiber is also important in the fight against colon cancer as it helps the body digest food properly, as do carbohydrates. Exercise also has a part to play in preventing colon cancer, with doctors advising at least 30 minutes per day, 5 days a week. This not only helps your body perform at its best, but by keeping your weight down also reduces the risk of various illnesses.

One thing that has increasingly been mentioned in the fight against colon cancer is colon cleansing. This can be done through the use of enemas, colonic irrigation, herbal colon cleansers and colon cleanse supplements. These all work in different ways but the purpose of them all is to remove waste and food left in the intestine. This waste often contains toxins that can be dangerous to the body, and over time may cause a person to become ill. It is not clear whether or not these toxins can lead directly to colon cancer, however as they reduce the effectiveness of the intestine and attack the immune system, it is thought that they do play a role in the development of the illness. As well as removing these harmful toxins, colon cleansing also helps reinstate normal bowel movement, another important factor in colon cancer.

Whilst colon cleansing has a number of advantages, there is no real scientific proof that it has any real role to play in the prevention of colon cancer. However, by clearing the body of harmful toxins and restoring normal bowel movements, it is thought that they can make a difference. By using a form of colon cleansings and implementing a diet full of healthy foods, the fight against colon cancer will be one you have a chance of winning.

A lot of people have tried a detox at one point or another, and most of these people have found it to have positive results. It involves cutting out certain foods from the diet and increasing the intake of other foods. While some people take this to an extreme by sticking to a diet of just fruit or soup for a few days, it is possible to detox and still enjoy a range of foods. A detox will help replenish your body and rid it of any toxins that may be stored whilst supplying you with nutrients depending on what food you are eating. It can be a good idea to detox every few months or around four times a year, for a period of around a week. Whilst some people may find it hard giving up foods such as ready-made meals, there is a wide range of foods that can be eaten that will prevent you from getting bored and ‘falling off the wagon’.

Whilst everyone knows that all vegetables are good for them, the best types to eat during a detox are green leafy vegetables such as broccoli and cabbage. This is due to the ability of these vegetables to sweep up toxins, more so than other vegetables, due to the high amount of antioxidants found in them. The best way to eat them is raw or steamed as the more they are cooked, the less nutrients present. It is also good to know that frozen and canned vegetables are just as good for you as fresh vegetables. Just like everyone knows they should try to eat more vegetables, we all know we should try to eat more fruit as well. This is because fruit is a natural source of dietary fiber which helps the digestive system, lowers cholesterol and is a good source of antioxidants. The best way to get the most out of fruit is to eat a wide variety of fruit, trying to eat those of varying colors as this is often an indicator of a fruits properties. Again, this goes for canned, dried, frozen and fresh fruits, as well as pure fruit juices.

One particular fruit to use during a detox is a lemon. The advantage of a lemon is that it makes toxins in the body water soluble, which in turn makes it easier for them to leave the body. Whilst it is not viable to eat a lemon on its own to get this outcome, it can be used during cooking. Perhaps the best way to increase the intake of lemon during a detox is to add it to hot water as a drink. Garlic is also a good food to eat during a detox as it too clears the body of toxins. The best way to take garlic is by simply adding it to foods whilst cooking. Although not strictly a food, the fifth best food to detox your system is fluids. Whilst the most obvious and perhaps the healthiest option is water, there are alternatives, including green tea and hot water with lemon. These will help keep you hydrated during the detox whilst also flushing out toxins. It is recommended that you try to have at least two litres of fluid intake per day.

There are a lot of other foods that can help detox your system, such as fresh fish, yoghurt, beans and lentils, by sticking to the five things mentioned above you are sure to get the results you want.

Ok, so it’s not really easy to lose 10 pounds, we all know that but with a little effort you can lose 10 pounds relatively quickly without feeling like you have to starve yourself. The easiest way to lose this weight is to do a little bit more exercise than you currently do and eat a little bit less than you currently do. That is fairly easy right?

So you don’t have to go on a diet of lettuce leaves and work out at the gym for 3 hours per day. You just need to make a few small changes to your diet, changes you will hardly notice but when put together will result in significant weight loss. Basically you just need to tweak you diet and exercise regime a little bit. For example, instead of two donuts and a coffee in the morning, why not have a wholegrain bagel with low fat cream cheese and then mid morning, instead iced latte with cream, have a fresh fruit smoothie with low fat yoghurt. Not only are these much healthier options but they will keep you from feeling hungry during the day. The last thing you want is to be starving and then eat anything in your path as soon as you get the chance.

So what is next? Lunch. This time you can ditch the cheeseburger and fries with soda to the curb. Instead, get a grilled chicken sandwich with a side salad, and some fresh fruit for dessert. This is a healthy balanced meal which still tastes great. For dinner, you might want to skip the pasta with a fatty meat sauce, and garlic bread and instead grill some lean fish with zucchini and asparagus. This is really a much healthier option and if you feel that isn’t enough to keep you feeling full, you can always have a small wholegrain dinner roll with your meal (though you might want to skip the butter with it).

Since you ate so well for the entire day, don’t go thinking you have to go and skip dessert in order to cap off the night healthy. There are plenty of healthy low calorie desserts available.

Detoxing has become a good way to prepare the body for a diet, or simply to get over a period of particularly bad food or drink intake such as Christmas. It involves cutting out foods that are bad for the body, in particular the digestive system, and eating a diet containing only certain foods. Whilst it is up to the individual how many types of food they will eat during the detox, the most important factor is the foods that are cut out. It is usually harder to give up the foods that are bad for you than it is to introduce healthier foods to your diet.

Perhaps one of the hardest things to give up is sugar and sugar based products. These can be hard to give up as almost everyone has their favorite treat, more than likely containing sugar. Whilst foods containing natural sweeteners are ok, artificial sweeteners are also worth avoiding. Other treats to avoid include potato chips, salted nuts and chocolate. It may also be hard to give up foods such as ready-made meals, processed foods, and take-away meals. A lot more people rely on these than in the past due to changing working patterns and family lives. Unfortunately, these foods are often the worst type of food for the body as they can be extremely hard to digest. These types of food are often found to have a high salt intake which is another reason to cut them out, with all salt intake reduced or stopped during the detox.

Another type of food to avoid when detoxing is red meat. Whilst some people choose to give up all meat during a detox; chicken and turkey are not as bad for the body as red meat. If you do decide to give them all up quorn and tofu can be a good alternative. Gluten should also be avoided, often found in foods that contain grains such as wheat and rye barley, for example bread and pasta. This is due to the fact that gluten can cause bloating and wind because of the way it is digested in the body. It is also a good idea to stop using sauces and dressings such as mayonnaise during a detox as these often contain ingredients such as salt and sugar, and replacing them with extra virgin olive oil. In terms of drinks, it is pretty obvious that alcohol and fizzy drinks should be cut out. However it could also be a good idea to cut out tea and coffee, although herbal teas could be used as an alternative.

Although it may be hard to cut out a lot of the foods listed above, the body does get used to not having them. In some cases, after cutting certain foods out of the diet people can find it hard to start eating them again, either at all or just not as much as before. Plus, the fact that most detox’s only last a few days to a week means that it’s not as hard as first imagined, and it may only be 7 days until that next bar of chocolate!
