And now they're venturing into territory previously only occupied by Sony and Microsoft: a subscription system.  <br />

So $12/month isn't a ton, especially if you're the sort who grabs a lot of Humble Bundles, but you're still rolling the dice a bit and hoping the bundles are mostly good.<br />

&lt;p&gt;Well, as of October 5th, the tech giant will finally admit (partial) defeat, as&amp;nbsp;&lt;em&gt;Project Spark&lt;/em&gt; will no longer be receiving DLC support, and all current assets will be made available for free. &amp;nbsp;While it will&amp;nbsp;be exciting to see if this move will encourage&amp;nbsp;players to dive back into the game and make use of all 2,000 assets, it also means that all episodic playable content will be cut short.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;On the other hand, one of those episodic releases was &amp;quot;Conker&amp;#39;s Big Reunion&amp;quot;, so maybe it&amp;#39;s a net positive after all.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The change will coincide with other improvements to the game, such as larger terrain and prop limits, a couple hundred new assets, and a new set of primitive building blocks. &amp;nbsp;As far as &amp;quot;Last Hurrahs&amp;quot; go, that ain&amp;#39;t bad.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;On Monday, the streaming crew checked out an early beta version of the game, giving us a taste of what the game has to offer. And offer it did. At first we were surprised at just how good the game looked. Then we were doubly shocked to learn this was no Unreal or Crytek Engine powered game - it&amp;#39;s using something new from Autodesk. &lt;p&gt;The game itself starts in an inn, which acts as a kind of hub/lobby area, with players jumping into the role of one of five characters: Witch Hunter, Bright Wizard, Wood Elf Waywatcher, Dwarf Ranger, or Empire Soldier. Each character has specific weapons, armor, and trinkets he/she can collect during missions to augment their character in typical RPG fashion. There&amp;#39;s also a crafting&amp;nbsp;and upgrade system, though we didn&amp;#39;t get to try much of that&amp;nbsp;in the beta. Once everyone&amp;#39;s geared up, you&amp;nbsp;choose a mission from the map and off you go.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The missions play out through a series of objectives. Some have you simply going from point A&amp;nbsp;to point B, while&amp;nbsp;others require you&amp;nbsp;to guard an area&amp;nbsp;or take exploding barrels from one area to another. All of this occurs while you are fending off hundreds of Skaven, which come in a variety of fun &amp;quot;rat&amp;quot; flavors. You&amp;#39;ve got your standard rats, your rattling gunners, rat ogres, rat assassins, and other nefarious rodent creatures that generally make your party&amp;#39;s life miserable. Like a &lt;em&gt;Left 4 Dead&lt;/em&gt; game, teamwork is necessary to survive&amp;nbsp;and you&amp;#39;ll be reviving fallen friends just as often as you&amp;#39;ll be calling out where the health items are located.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;em&gt;Warhammer: End of Times - Vermintide&lt;/em&gt; has quickly jumped onto our fall list of must play co-op titles. We simply had no idea this was such a strong cooperative and fun game. We&amp;#39;re glad we dug in and are anxious to see the polished product when it hits PC on October 23rd.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Producer Almir Listo took to Reddit and YouTube recently to address the concerns players have about the current state of the game on the consoles and offer some explanation. For the Xbox One issues, an entire reworking of the matchmaking system is required.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;This is a solution that is built from the ground up, as the previous matchmaking system we have for PS4 and PC doesn&amp;#39;t work well with your platform... Right now this is our number one priority. Our ambition is to go live with the new matchmaking system and additional fixes within the coming weeks, and no later than the end of the year. Does that mean that we want to release it on 31st of December? Absolutely not, we want to get it done ASAP.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Interesting to see that a system that works on both the PC is broken on the Xbox One, considering both share much in common.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;/p&gt; 

&lt;p&gt;In addition to those fixes, Overkill is looking at how to get DLC out for both games. This does involve some extra finessing as new content means making new builds of the game and submitting them to the appropriate parties for approval.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;No time frame is given for any of this, other than they are working to get it out as soon as possible and, ideally, no later than the end of this year.&lt;/p&gt;

I honestly loathe the line Dont knock it until youve tried it. It isnt even that specific line I have problems with, its the general idea. You could tell me to cut off my finger for the best adrenaline rush Ive ever had, but I can tell you now without ever having tried it...its not. Theres other, less extreme examples but you get the idea. However, when it comes to VR, I cant help but fall back to that line of reasoning. Anytime the subject comes up you have the 5 or 10 people wholl chime in with the fad/trend excuse and write it off immediately and nearly 10 times out of 10 these statements come from people who havent tried any VR. For me, VR works. The whole concept works, from comfort to immersion, it all works. There are very few and very tiny hurdles it needs to get over and it is slowly doing that, but for all intents and purposes, VR works.<br />

<p>I honestly loathe the line “Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it”. It isn’t even that specific line I have problems with, it’s the general idea. You could tell me to cut off my finger for the best adrenaline rush I’ve ever had, but I can tell you now without ever having tried it&#8230;it’s not. There’s other, less extreme examples but you get the idea. However, when it comes to VR, I can’t help but fall back to that line of reasoning. Anytime the subject comes up you have the 5 or 10 people who’ll chime in with the “fad/trend” excuse and write it off immediately and nearly 10 times out of 10 these statements come from people who haven’t tried any VR. For me, VR works. The whole concept works, from comfort to immersion, it all works. There are very few and very tiny hurdles it needs to get over and it is slowly doing that, but for all intents and purposes, VR works.</p>
<p>Well, there’s the price of entry. That’s actually a pretty big hurdle we’ve yet to come up against.</p>]]></content:encoded>

Bethesda has <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://bethesda.net/#en/events/game/fallout-4s-character-system/2015/09/24/31">released some new info on the perks and leveling systems</a> in <b>Fallout 4</b>.  At the start of the game, you're given 28 points to spend across the seven stats (the SPECIAL system).  From there you have ten tiers of perks associated with each stat.  Your score in a particular stat determines which tier or perks you can choose, so if you have a 10 in agility, you can take any perk associated with that stat.  Additionally, each perk has further levels, although some of these have level requirements.  Which means that there are over 270 perks or perk levels available to players.  Good thing there is no level cap in Wasteland this time.  <br />
<br />
Here's some more good news.  Bethesda VP Pete Hines has confirmed that there will be <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://www.pcgamer.com/fallout-4-wont-have-timed-or-platform-exclusive-dlc/">no platform exclusive</a> (or timed exclusive) DLC in the game.  The last few Bethesda RPGs had deals with Microsoft which gave the Xbox and PC first crack at DLC, and technical issues further delayed the Skyrim expansions on PS3 for nearly a year.</div>]]></content:encoded>

The finale of the <b>Starcraft 2</b> trilogy is on it's way.  <b>Legacy of the Void</b> will explore the Protoss side of the conflict, and the trailer seems to be trying to humanize these psionic space zealots more than previously expected.  While this trailer focuses on the story, the expansion will also include new fighty bits, including <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/legacy-of-the-void/#units">new units &amp; modes</a>. <br />
<br />
With this SC2 finale imminent, it begs the question: what's next?  Five years after it was first released, Starcraft 2 is firmly ensconced as one of the eSport mainstays, and Blizzard will undoubtedly continue to support it, even if this is the last full expansion.  Consequently you have to believe that Blizzard is in some stage of development on a new RTS game, be it War, Star or something else.  But the company is also starting to change their vision for games, moving from behemoth projects like WoW and SC2 to slightly more agile products like Hearthstone, Overwatch and Heroes of the Storm.  What form will their next RTS take?  It's a genre which hasn't been quite as successful in the F2P form as others, but it Blizzard is as likely to crack that code as anyone in the industry.  <br />

         <content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>Turner Broadcasting - a part of the greater Warner Bros empire - is teaming up with uber talent agency WME-IMG to create a new eSports league.  The unnamed league will run two seasons of 10 weeks each year, with a rotating roster of featured games.  Events will air live on TBS on Friday nights, and originate from Turner's studios in Atlanta.  The first 10 week season in early 2016 will feature Valve's <i>Counter-Strike: Global Offensive</i>.<br />
<br />
To my knowledge, this would be the second eSports event to air on American television.  Earlier this year ESPN2 broadcast "Heroes of the Dorm", a tournament featuring collegiate teams playing the then just released <i>Heroes of the Storm</i>.  While eSports has been growing in recent years, most of the action has been limited to Twitch, YouTubeLive and similar streaming services, or to live LAN events.  But giving this new league the Friday night slot - which is usually a death slot for all non-sports - Turner gives the project some breathing room in a low risk environment.  If it fails, it didn't cost them a ton of money.  But if it becomes even a modest success, then Turner gets in on the ground floor of a new sports venture.</div>]]></content:encoded>

SAG-AFTRA, the union which represents the VG performers, has scheduled a vote of their membership to authorize a strike.  The union contract expired at the first of the year, and they have been negotiating with industry reps since.  <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2015/09/22/developing-video-game-voice-actors-are-considering-a-strike.aspx">Game Informer</a> has a good synopsis of the issues, but it mostly revolves around money (I should note that only SAG-AFTRA reps responded to GI's inquiry, and the industry reps have not commented).  The union wants more compensation, the opportunity to earn "back end bonuses" and restricting non-union talent - particularly publisher and developer employees - from doing VO work in the games.  The union also seeks to bring mo-cap actors into the union for the first time.  <br />
<br />
According to the <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://www.sagaftra.org/interactive/faqs">SAG-AFTRA member FAQ</a>, the voting period for a strike ends October 5.  A strike would require 75% approval by active union members, and could be called any time after approval.  <br />
<br />
This would be, as far as I can tell, the first strike by actors on the video game industry, although VG voice actors were only accepted as part of the union a few years back.    <br />

You can go back a year or so and listen to our excitement of Destiny and then, as shows progress, you can hear how it slowly died off week by week and became a game we never felt wed ever go back to. Or, at least not something we saw ourselves returning to one year later. But here we are, back on the bandwagon again, but this time with something much more compelling than last time. Something much more likely to hold us a bit longer than before - or, at the very least is giving us something we can come away from being more satisfied than before. Destiny 2.0 isnt yet everything it should be, but its on the right road and more than halfway there.</div>]]></content:encoded>

Another game slips from the holiday release schedule.  This time it's IO Interactive and Square Enix' revamp of <b>Hitman</b>, which was set for launch this December, but will now hit shelves in March.<br />

This Hitman is taking a somewhat unusual approach, launching the game with a limited amount of content, but with more added over time for free.  They also promise a game much larger and with more freedom than any previous installment of the series, which has had a very uneven history over it's decade plus of existence.  <br />

According to a report in <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://www.gameblog.fr/news/53481-julien-merceron-quitterait-konami-vers-la-fin-des-gros-jeux-">Game Blog</a> [French link] (via <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-09-18-konami-ceases-triple-a-console-production-on-all-but-pes-report">Eurogamer</a>), Konami is ending all major console development outside of the Pro Evo Soccer series.  This come as Fox Engine creator Julien Merceron has also announced his departure from the company.<br />
<br />
We in the West know Konami exclusively as a game publisher and developer, but their main business is actually gaming machines and spas in Japan.  Exiting large scale game development wouldn't change the company's fortunes a great deal.<br />
<br />
So this obviously leads to a bit of speculation.  Konami owns some very popular franchises - Metal Gear, Castlevania, Silent Hill and Dance Dance Revolution - which would seem to still have an audience.  They could abandon console development while shifting to mobile, or they could exit the industry altogether and sell their properties off to other publishers.  I think the former is the more likely route, even if many gamers would prefer the latter. <br />

The first episode of <b>Minecraft: Story Mode</b> - Mojang and Microsoft's collaboration with Telltale Games - will be released October 13 on most major systems (iOS and Android will be released Oct 15, while Wii U and Vita versions will be available at an unspecified later date).  The game puts you in the shoes of Jessie, voiced by either Patton Oswalt or Catherine Taber depending on which gender you choose, as you quest "across the Overworld, through the Nether, to the End, and beyond." <p>We’re about a week behind on giving our thoughts on a few games that released at the beginning of the month and we’re not really done with either of them, but we have our thoughts nonetheless. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is out there and we’ve got&#8230;something to say about it. My best take away from what Matt and Josh, who called in, say about it is that MGSV takes the gameplay of the franchise in a different direction than it’s gone before and it’s paying off. They can say it better than I can and if you’ve been playing it, then you probably understand as well.</p>
<p>As for me, the wasteland of MAD MAX has been my home and it has surprised me just how much at home I feel. The game doesn’t bring you anything new or do anything differently, but whatever&#8230;it’s much too fun for me to play to care. Kinda like how Destiny has its problems, but that doesn’t stop me from just playing for 2 hours and shooting things. It’s good at what it does, and that’s all a game ever needs to be sometimes.</p>]]></content:encoded>

<p>For the first time in more months that I can remember, we got everyone back in the studio for this episode &#8211; minus Dennis, sadly. None of us have put in as much time as we thought we would have for Phantom Pain. In fact, some of us aren’t even playing it. James has shifted his buying schedule of games around almost at the last minute. Nate’s on a no new games policy, and I’ve found Mad Max to be more entertaining. Matt has put some time into it but not really enough to give too much of an opinion on, and RJ is busy with Bloodborne.</p>
<p>While the upcoming fall and holiday seasons usually mean a busy time with games, that doesn’t seem to be the case from our vantage point this early on. We’re ready to dive back into Destiny with their new update, and there may be a new game or two with throw a rental at, but that’s about it. Well, that and some of us jumping back into some old MMO’s.</p>]]></content:encoded>

<p>I don’t think we’ve done a four person show in quite a few months now and we aren’t about to break that streak with this episode. PAX is on the horizon but more so for a lot of people &#8211; The Phantom Pain is on their horizon and, from the look of reviews, it’ll be worth the wait. Before we get there, however, 2 games are releasing this week&#8230;exclusives for each system, in fact&#8230;Until Dawn on the PS4 and Gears Of War Remastered on the Xbox One. Each of these seems easy enough to run through while waiting for next Tuesday.</p>
<p>Then we’ve got about 15 days before a few of us on the show step back into Destiny. We’re a bit surprised to say that ourselves but from the sound of things&#8230;they’re improving the game in the right direction we’d have liked to seen it go to begin with.</p>]]></content:encoded>

When that question came up in discussion during the show this week, we were trying to figure out the reasoning for having a full year exclusivity for Rise Of The Tomb Raider. And when we began to talk about it, we realized from the chat room that a system seller turns out to be a very subjective question. Turns out, a system seller seems to be whatever game compels you to buy a system to play it. But I’m sure numbers exist somewhere that show a release of a game and a rise in system purchases, we just didn’t have that kind of data at our fingertips during the show. A fun discussion nonetheless.</p>

<p>Where to begin? Seriously, I don’t even know how to start this or where to start it in relation to this episode. It’s pretty much all Batman related, but it isn’t good news. Well, I take that back. Everyone seems to be okay with the game proper, but when it comes to the PC version, it’s just one big mess. This is the one I was looking forward to. This was my big summer game and the one that would hold me over for a good while until the fall. The one that I would jump into at any given time just to play the combat. The one I wanted on PC cause it was sure to be the better version.</p>

<p>We’re back from E3 and we’re not sure what to think of everything. Microsoft, we felt, had a very decent showing and Sony was more than we ever expected as far as the megaton’s were concerned. While we do hit each and every showing at E3, it’s the remake of Final Fantasy 7 that gives us the most conversation. It’s a nostalgia I am not familiar with, but one I wish I was after listening to James talk about it and reading the chat room.</p>
