With version 7.20 of ColorGATE’s RIP software, customers now benefit from the new optional TVI Calibration Module (TVICM) which allows tonal value corrections, similar to offset printing. TVICM is easy to use because of the integrated process calibration wizard. Also, the simulation of spot color gradients have been improved and the preview feature for cut paths has been integrated. Furthermore, the internal control wedge evaluation for large format printing in Proofgate 7 and Proofgate 7 Module (PGM) has been adjusted to the PSD defaults. In addition, the new release provides support for a large number of printers and enhancements in e.g. Adobe PDF Print Engine (APPE) and G7 Calibration Module (G7CM).

TVI Calibration Module (TVICM)

The TVI Calibration complements the existing color management tool sets with the tonal value correction (TVI) well known from ISO 12647-2 which is used in offset printing. Analog to offset printing standard compliant print results can be achieved by using dot gain correction, standard ink and matching a paper specific TVI target. TVICM offers the possibility to calibrate conventional printing presses in heterogeneous production environments via tonal value correction.

Improved simulation of spot color gradations

This function improves the color accuracy of spot colors that contain gradations or gradients. A requirement in the field of packaging printing is to present brand information across different types of media maintaining optimal color reproduction results. Conventional printing systems (like offset or flexo) can meet this requirement by using spot colors with individual tonal value characteristics. The simulation of the individual tonal value characteristics of spot colors in digital printing has been improved for a better control of the gradients. As a result, optimal color reproduction results can be achieved for packaging printing, short production runs and personalized printing products. This is achieved by defining exact Lab replacements for certain tonal values in addition to the full color. These values can be obtained via a connected spectro or with the visual sampling mode of the Color Atlas module.

ProcessStandard Digital (PSD) in Productionserver 7, Proofgate 7 and Photogate 7

The ProcessStandard Digital (PSD) was developed by Fogra Forschungsgesellschaft Druck e.V. to improve the process control, to increase the quality and to maintain similar color reproduction results even on completely different print engines and media. For print service providers in large/wide format printing (LFP) PSD stipulates for the first time an officially recognized set of rules similar to ProcessStandard Offset (PSO). By gaining a PSD certification a printing business can stand out from the crowd of competitors and reach new customers. At the same time the PSD compliant production approach increases productivity and output consistency.

Productionserver 7 Campaign Printing RIP software is the turnkey solution for the realization of PSD. The media control wedge evaluation of Proofgate Module (PGM) and Proofgate 7 has been modified as follow

Preview Feature for Cut Paths

A new preview was added that shows the cutline colored. It can also be opened in a full window that can additionally illustrate perforations and cut directions. Furthermore, a Bézier curve will automatically be transformed into arcs and lines to improve the cutting accuracy and speed. The results of the transformation will be automatically displayed in color. Prior to obtaining this cut path preview each job has to be ripped.

Additonal improvements and Module-News

Loading large numbers of small jobs has been accelerated.
The media preview has been optimized to display jobs with a large copy quantity much faster than before.
Additional values are now shown on the evaluation page to meet the guidelines of the G7 certification.
The Adobe PDF Print Engine (APPE) can now process PS/EPS files. Also, a new dialog with more options was added to the Rip tab.

New printer drivers

Release 7.20 proposes a wide range of new printer drivers for several printers as there are: HP Indigo PDF (Cat 3), Roland XF-640 (Cat 1) Roland XR-640 (Cat 1), SIIT IP-7700 (ColorPainter H2P-74S) (Cat 1), SIIT IP-7900 (ColorPainter H2P-104S) (Cat 2). New cutting plotters and cutting tables: GCC Puma III/Jaguar IV (Cat 0) und DYSS (Cat 1).

New PSD features in Proofgate Module Version 7.20 ColorGATE is guiding print service providers through PSD certification process

Starting with the release of Version 7.20 ColorGATE enhances the Proofgate Module (PGM) with new PSD functions. The ProcessStandard Digital (PSD) was originally developed by Fogra Forschungsgesellschaft Druck e.V. to establish international mandatory standards for the digital print business. During the last couple of years ColorGATE has demonstrated its claim in the development and implementation of relevant international standards for the graphic art industry. The integration of PSD functions into the Proofgate Module for the RIP software Productionserver 7 (PS7) ColorGATE reinforces this claim.

The Proofgate Module Version 7.20 allows creating PSD-compliant digital prints. Therefore, the internal control wedge evaluation for large format printing has been adjusted to the PSD defaults. This allows the media relative print guaranteeing a consistent color reproduction no matter what printing method or material was used. Additionally, the established way of the absolute reproduction (side-by-side) was adapted to the PSD instructions. With the modified evaluation dialog it is easier to switch between the different evaluation criteria like ISO 12647 or the new PSD. The layout of the evaluations for ISO A4 or label printers will be automatically adapted to the selection.

A requirement of campaign printing is to present brand information across a range of diverse media maintaining optimal color reproduction results. Due to a disparity of the individual color reproduction capabilities most conventional printing systems are facing difficulties.

ColorGATE offers here solutions for print service providers that are setting great value on a consistent and predictable color reproduction in campaign printing with its Productionserver 7 Campaign Printing Edition.

ColorGATEs Vertriebspartner der ersten Stunde, die DTG Datentechnik (DTG) von Geschäftsführer Hermann Garr, setzt bereits seit vielen Jahren auf die erfolgreiche Zusammenarbeit mit ColorGATE als Hersteller und Partner. Zum Ausdruck kommt dieses vor allem auch in der langfristigen gemeinsamen Zusammenarbeit mit Kunden wie der Seitz & Zöbeley GmbH. Das Unternehmen wurde 1968 als Fotofachlabor gegründet und bot zunächst sämtliche analogen Fachbereiche wie Filmentwicklungen, Vergrößerungen, Duplikate, Repros und Großvergrößerungen an.

Doch dann, mit dem Einzug der digitalen Technik Ende der 80er Jahre, wandelten sich die Anforderungen schnell. Bereits 1992 wurde eine DTP-Abteilung aufgebaut, die das bestehende Angebot um die Erstellung von Satzfilmen sowie Text- und Filmdecker für die Großfoto-Produktion und später auch IRIS-Proofs und Lithos erweiterte. Ein größeres Angebot bedeutete aber auch ein ständiges „am Ball bleiben“, denn die Technologien änderten sich rasant. Hierfür wurde ein kompetenter Experte gesucht.

Experimenten mit unterschiedlichen Herstellern und verschiedenen Lösungsansätzen im Inkjet-Großformatbereich, z.B. auf Basis von Novajet 50 Printern, brachten keine zufriedenstellenden Ergebnisse, doch dann fand die Seitz & Zöbeley GmbH auf CeBIT 1997 mit dem ColorGATE Vertriebspartner DTG den fachkundigen Ansprechpartner für die Zukunft, der das Unternehmen mit fundierten Hard- und Softwarekenntnissen unterstützen konnte.

Nach einem ersten gemeinsamen erfolgreichen Projekt - einer Printlösung auf Basis eines HP 2000 - stellte sich schnell heraus, dass die DTG mit ColorGATE auch die passenden RIP-Softwarelösungen für die Herausforderungen der Seitz & Zöbeley GmbH liefern konnte. Bereits im November desselben Jahres wurde die erste ColorGATE-Lösung zusammen mit einem Kodak LFP-Printer 2060 implementiert. Seitdem ist die Seitz & Zöbeley GmbH mit jedem Upgrade den ColorGATE-Lösungen treu geblieben.

Hermann Garr, Geschäftsführer bei der DTG Datentechnik, erinnert sich: „Was wir schon damals, wie auch heute sehr schätzen ist, neben dem unabdingbar zuverlässigen Support vor allem die schnelle RIP-Geschwindigkeit, das hervorragende Farbmanagement sowie die Skalierbarkeit der ColorGATE-Lösungen. Latest version 7.11 of ColorGATEs successful RIP software solutions Productionserver, Filmgate, Proofgate and Photogate are available now in version 7.11. With version 7.11 of Productionserver RIP software, customers now benefit from the new In-RIP-Trapping Module TRAPM that ensures elimination of flashes in the print image due to process-related registration errors in multi-color printing, which can occur during printing process. In addition the new release provides support for a large number of printers and enhancements in e.g. Quality Assurance Module (QAM) and Print and Cut Module (PCM).

In-RIP-Trapping Module TRAPM
In-RIP-Trapping Module ensures elimination of flashes in the print image due to process-related registration errors in multi-color printing, which can occur during printing process when printing image elements of different colors sequentially on a printed sheet. Most of these errors are based on mechanical inaccuracies of the printing system, e.g. as inaccurate alignment of the printing sheets, which are technically inevitable in some cases.

In order to counter these misalignments, In-RIP-Trapping Module enables overfilling or under filling of adjacent image elements. Next to offset printing, especially for screen and packaging printing, trapping is an important feature to ensure high-quality printing products.

Print service providers using ColorGATE Productionserver 7 RIP software solutions along with printers of the Epson SureColor SC-S-series (SC S306x0, SC S506x0, SC S706x0), now will save even more ink and therefore reduce their consumption costs. This is made possible by ColorGATESs innovative Ink Saver technology, specifically for these printers developed printer drivers, and by support for the halftone (non-HTM) print mode.

Printer drivers specially developed for printers of Epson SureColor SC-S-series ensure optimal access for Productionserver 7 RIP software solutions optimized to the features of these printers. Using the function Printer Status Monitor users get an immediate overview and feedback on all major printer parameters such as: status feedback, heater settings, amount of ink remaining, loaded media width and maintenance tank status.

In addition, ColorGATE drivers for SC-S706x0 series and SC-S506x0 series support all Layering options for white and/or metallic printing. Colors (CMYK) and special inks (white, metallic) can be printed in up to three separate layers. Applying Halftone printing mode, along with the Ink Saver Technology it is possible to save up to 35% of the ink consumption, ensuring at the same time an excellent color quality and perfectly neutral gray axis. ProcessStandard Digital for large and wide format printing PSD Fogra certification - ColorGATE employees successfully

In July 2012, ColorGATE employees André Fontana, Carsten Ritter, Claudius Müller, Gerrit Andre, Janis Katomeris and Matthias Schönig successfully completed the internationally recognized certification DPE, Digital Print Expert of Fogra Forschungsgesellschaft Druck e.V. (Graphic Technology Research Association). After three days of intensive training by Andreas Kraushaar, head of prepress technology at Fogra, and a comprehensive practical and written exam ColorGATE now belongs to the first companies specially certified with the focus on large and wide format printing (LFP). Therefore the certified ColorGATE employees are now authorized to conduct PSD audits with customers.

Through intensive consulting, trainings and introductions to the PSD compliant production process, ColorGATE will prepare customers in an optimum way for the PSD-certification to be ideally conditioned for the PSD audit afterwards. PSD-certified companies document their competence in color management, quality control and workflow management. Furthermore a consequent implementation of the PSD reduces wastage and saves precious time through a consistent workflow. Hence the PSD increases competitiveness and improves internal processes.

The DPE partner certification testifies that ColorGATE employees have acquired compre-hensive knowledge and practical qualifications. Several topics have been part of the training and exam; e.g. control of output processes to achieve a reproducible reference state and quality management which comprises securing of color consistency and the evaluation of the output behavior (monitoring).

With six certified employees, ColorGATE demonstrates its claim in the development and implementation of relevant international standards for the graphic arts industry. New in cFlow Version 1.2.1

Support of new file formats
Beside common PDF files, cFlow now also handles separated PDF files, EPS-, PostScript (PS) and bitmap formats (TIFF, JPEG and PNG) as well as Microsoft Office files (a copy of MS-Office must be installed on the cFlow server). All file formats are transformed into PDF files by cFlow. Subsequently, these documents can be checked for errors (preflight) and corrected and then be passed to color management as required. These feature and further functions, allow users to utilize cFlow as well as a PDF server.

Enhanced color management and new device link profiles
Already the first version of cFlow provided "state of the art" device link profiles. The new version provides outstanding new features and modules such as the 1-Bit-TIFF-Input Module (1BITM), In-RIP-Trapping Module (TRAPM), and the versatile GamutViewer. Supporting a wide range of new printers and measuring devices the area of ??application of Productionserver RIP software has been extended again. In addition, the Adobe PDF Print Engine 2.6 (APPE) now is also available for screen workflows.

1-Bit-TIFF-Input-Module (1BITM)
The optional 1-Bit-TIFF-Input Module provides a simple and reliable method for processing incoming 1-bit TIFF-files to create halftone proofs and to de-screen input data for form proofs (impositioning proofs). In this way, documents can be tested completely prior to printing to avoid incorrect artwork and that may lead to high costs and time losses. De-screening 1-bit TIFF data, users will receive very accurate color proofs, enabling them to detect color shifts right in time. The 1-Bit-TIFF-Input-Module is an ideal solution for customers in packaging industry, but also for pre-press workflows in other areas.

In-Rip-Trapping-Module (TRAPM)
The new ColorGATE In-RIP-Trapping Module ensures that there are no flashes due to registration errors at the boundary lines of image elements, which should not be visible, when printing image elements of different colors sequentially on a printed sheet in multi-color printing. Usually this happens because of mechanical inaccuracies of the printing system. In order to counter these misalignments, trapping enables overprinting or under filling of adjacent image elements. Next to offset printing, especially for screen and packaging printing trapping is an important feature which is now available as optional module.

ColorGATE Gamut Viewer available
The ColorGATE Gamut Viewer enables impressive two- and three-dimensional (2D/3D) comparisons of different color spaces. The function can be launched in two ways: out of the Profiler Module (PFM)/ Profiler Suite (PFS) or via the menu “Options” in the software.
Via the menu “Options” user can compare up to five ICC profiles in 2D with a reference or standard color space. This enables definition of the largest gamut for a Campaign Printing workflow, when using several different printers. Via the Profiler Module/ Profiler Suite users are able to see directly the calculated profile and can compare it with the profiles embedded is the MIM combination or with a reference profile. GamutViewer allows comparing up to 2 ICC profiles in 3D. It is possible to rotate the view to see details and so to recognize any problems immediately.
GamutViewer also provides many more convenient functions of which one highlight is absolutely the function for illustrating motives as a 3D point cloud that shows the parts of the motive lying inside and outside of the color space. ColorGATE GamutViewer is now available for all Productionserver 7.10 products, Photogate 7.10, and Proofgate 7.10.

Further functions

Interpolation of screen data format: Now several methods of interpolations are available for halftone files (e.g. TIFF, JPEG). Especially options "Bilinear" and "Bicubic" provide much smoother edges when upscaling low resolution pictures.
Confidence strips can now be placed in multiple ways. In addition, its size and the distance to the job can be configured.

Adobe PDF Print Engine 2.6 (APPE) for Screen Workflows

ColorGATE RIP software products Filmgate and Productionserver 7 Printbox Edition for screen workflows are now available with optional Adobe PDF Print Engine 2.6. By this means also customers in prepress business will profit with immediate effect from a smooth end-to-end, highly automated PDF workflow for exact reproduction of even the most complex designs.

The module provides a simple and reliable method for processing incoming 1-bit TIFF-files to create halftone proofs and to de-screen input data for form proofs (impositioning proofs). In this way, documents can be tested completely prior to printing to avoid incorrect artwork and that may lead to high costs and time losses. De-screening 1-bit TIFF data, users will receive very accurate color proofs, enabling them to detect color shifts right in time. The 1-Bit-TIFF-Input-Module is an ideal solution for customers in packaging industry, but also for pre-press workflows in other areas.

ColorGATE GamutViewer available
Good things come to those who wait! The new ColorGATE GamutViewer is now available for all Productionserver 7.10 products, Photogate 7.10, and Proofgate 7.10. The GamutViewer enables impressive two- and three-dimensional (2D/3D) comparisons of different color spaces and can be launched in two ways: out of the Profiler Module (PFM)/ Profiler Suite (PFS) or via the menu “Options” in the software.

Via the menu “Options” user can compare up to five ICC profiles in 2D with a reference or standard color space. This enables definition of the largest gamut for a Campaign Printing workflow, when using several different printers. Via the Profiler Module/ Profiler Suite users are able to see directly the calculated profile and can compare it with the profiles embedded is the MIM combination or with a reference profile. GamutViewer allows comparing up to 2 ICC profiles in 3D. It is possible to rotate the view to see details and so to recognize any problems immediately.

GamutViewer also provides many more convenient functions of which one highlight is absolutely the function for illustrating motives as a 3D point cloud that shows the parts of the motive lying inside and outside of the color space.

Adobe PDF Print Engine 2.6 (APPE) for Screen Workflows

With the release 7.10, ColorGATE RIP software for Screen Workflows — Filmgate and CG Inkjet Printbox — now is available with optional Adobe PDF Print Engine 2.6. ColorGATE RIP software Productionserver 7 (PS7) already provides driver support for the brand-new large-format printer Epson SureColor SC-S30600 — presented at FESPA Digital 2012 on 21.February 2012 — that is able to process roll media up to 64 inches (162.6 cm) width for both exterior and interior applications.

Experience Productionserver 7 together with the new Epson SureColor SC-S30600 at Epson Europe hall 3/booth E20; more innovative ColorGATE solutions can be seen at ColorGATE booth K75 in hall 3.

Customers using Epson Color Sure SC S30600 together with Productionserver 7 will enjoy many advantages. Using Epson together with Productionserver 7 RIP software, the monitor of the Epson offers valuable clues to ink levels, temperature, and various other states of the printer. CG Simpose is ColorGATEs new impositioning software (MAC/PC) for native sheet assembly, i.e. without any changes in the database in order that sheets are printed and folded to fit the page numbers in the correct order. CG Simpose has no limitations regarding output format, printer's imprint, sheet templates, optimal alignment of elements on a sheet (gang-run printing), and provides a wide range of functions, serving most diverse requirements.

The new ColorGATE In-RIP Trapping Module ensures that there are no flashes due to registration errors at the boundary lines of image elements, which should not be visible, when printing image elements of different colors sequentially on a printed sheet in multi-color printing. Usually this happens because of mechanical inaccuracies of the printing system. In order to counter these misalignments, trapping enables overprinting or under filling of adjacent image elements. Next to offset printing, especially for screen and packaging printing trapping is an important feature.

Soon available with version 7.10, 1-Bit-TIFF-Input Module will mainly appeal to customers in packaging printing but also address other areas. Since misprints in complex printing plate production are the more expensive, the later they are discovered, 1-Bit-TIFF-Input Module enables accurate proofing of screening characteristics even before plate production. In addition it is possible to de-screen 1-Bit-TIFF-data, to achieve very accurate color proofs and to avoid color shifts and moiré. To enable the 1-Bit-TIFF processing Productionserver 7 can be extended with the optional module which processes the data to be output on any supported digital printer.

New product structure

Productionserver 7 (PS7) is subdivided into PS7 Classic-Line, PS7 X-Line and PS7 Flex-Line. ColorGATE now provides printer driver support for the dry toner-based wide format (A0) printers KIP Color 80 of the company KIP Deutschland GmbH. Primarily KIP Color 80 devices are employed in reproduction departments and companies, CAD-, architecture and engineering offices as well as for outdoor and indoor advertising or even for individualized short runs; e.g. in offset printing facilities.

Rotating existing containers
Starting with version 6.32 it is possible to rotate existing containers. This function was implemented for some special applications. Commonly the flatbed cutter devices as well as some printers have another x-y-coordination system. ColorGATE reinforces sales presence in the Asian tigers Yan Wei Phin is the new Regional Sales Manager for Southeast Asia

Internationally active RIP software vendor ColorGATE has added Yan Wei Phin to its sales team: the 35-year-old native-born Malaysian is the new ColorGATE Regional Sales Manager for Southeast Asia and responsible for what are known as the tiger nations: Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines. Wei Phin was last responsible for the implementation of the ISO 12647 and G7 industrial printing standards in southeast Asia for Schawk, a renowned US media services provider; before that, he was the Business Development Manager at GMG, a company specializing in high-quality proofing systems.

“Our successful corporate strategy focuses closely on the additional development of international sales channels and markets. We are happy to welcome another first-class player to our team, Yan Wei Phin. Version 6.31 Build 3702 More productive than ever thanks to new functions

With many minor improvements, but perhaps most importantly with a wide range of new functions and a number of new drivers for printers and cutting plotters as well, the most recent version of the ColorGATE RIP software makes a significant contribution towards increasing user productivity. Here is a short overview of selected highlights:

Freely positionable control wedge
Starting with the current release, it is now possible to freely place the control wedge on any side of the job. Other features: wedge mirroring, multiple output, rotation with the job, automatic recognition of the optimum space-saving positioning.

Defining ink-free areas for tiling
How practical: in the Tiling assistant it is now possible to define the areas that are not to be printed. This makes it easier to fuse individual lengths with one another and increases the stability of the seams at the same time.

Special colors: Adjustable density, creating gradation curves
When using the corresponding printers, Release 6.31 and later now makes it possible to control the intensity (density) of such special colors as white, varnish or metallic. Gradation curves can also be created to optimally adapt the ink application to the desired intensity.

Summa FlexCut support
The new release also supports the FlexCut function on Summa cutting plotters. It allows the creation of perforations so that the motif can be removed from the backing material even more conveniently. In addition, drivers for the innovative Summa F series are now also available, starting immediately.

Printer driver for HP DesignJet Z6200 in the final version
The HP DesignJet Z6200 is considered as the fastest large-format printer in its class; the printer driver developed by ColorGATE was certified by HP with top marks and is now available in the final version starting from Release 6.31. As a result, the printer’s wide range of functions cannot be used better by any other RIP software than by the multiple award-winning ColorGATE Productionserver 6.
