Color Me Musical

Coming Soon...

2015-04-22T10:53:00.000-04:00

I am in the process of making some big changes, and will hopefully make an "announcement" on Friday! Stay tuned.

New Music - Janelle Monae ft. Jidenna "Yoga"

2015-03-31T16:38:00.000-04:00

Newly minted record executive, Janelle Monae has finally released some new music. It has a bit of Beyonce's recent foray into a more hip-hop sound feel to it. Definitely not what I was expecting to hear. Jidenna is one of the artists on her Wondaland label. Check out his single "Classic Man" here.

Local Flavor - Crue "Free Fall(ing)"

2015-03-25T16:58:00.000-04:00

I'm always surprised when people don't realize how diverse and talented the DC music scene is. Crue represents that portion of the scene that doesn't fall neatly into one label. Her alternative R&B/Soul reminds me of Erykah Badu, Little Dragon, and Lylit at times. Did I mention she plays the violin, piano, and guitar. AND she writes, composes, and produces.
Check out her DA CAPO EP and the rest of her stuff here.

Foreign Friday - Kent "999"

Origin: Sweden
Genre: Alternative

Foreign Friday - MoBlow ft. May D "Wiggle"

2015-03-20T11:16:00.000-04:00

origin: Nigeria
This is not a cover of Jason Derulo's "Wiggle," just in case you were wondering, haha.

Throwback Thursday - The Foundations "Baby, Now That I've Found You"

2015-03-19T14:37:00.001-04:00

One of my favorite songs from the 60s. Cliche, but they just don't make em like they used to.

Throwback Thursday - Gorillaz "Clint Eastwood"

2015-03-19T11:39:00.001-04:00

Classic. I can't wait to hear what the new stuff is going to sound like.

New Music Video - Jill Scott "You Don't Know"

2015-03-17T15:39:00.002-04:00

This about to be every scorned woman's anthem. Jill Scott is slept on. And somewhat rightfully so, because she doesn't put herself out there the way other artists do. She got involved in the Cosby scandal recently, but other than that you don't really hear about her. I appreciate that.

New Music Video - JMSN "Foolin"

2015-02-19T15:13:00.000-05:00

Foreign Friday - Soak "B a noBody"

2015-02-13T08:00:00.001-05:00

Origin: Derry, Ireland
Genre: Singer-songwriter

Yes, the title of the song is spelled like that. She's been around for a few years now and she's only eighteen. Her album Before We Forgot How to Dream comes out June 1.

Just Cause - Colony House - "Silhouettes"

They open for the Kongos tonight at the 9:30 Club. I get a Young the Giant vibe from them. I'll see how they do tonight.

Foreign Friday - Selah Sue "Alone"

2015-01-30T15:23:00.003-05:00

This is her new single, it has potential to get her a bigger audience. But I doubt it will be her big breakout song. I'm digging it though. Her new album comes out on March 30th, so support good music. And checkout her song with Childish Gambino "Together" here.

Foreign Friday - Kara "Mamma Mia"

2015-01-30T11:00:00.000-05:00

Young Ji is the cutest person ever and her and Jackson from GOT7 are the cutest friends ever. Anywho, I can't stop singing the chorus. And of course I'm into because of Roommate. You definitely need to watch it if you like KPop and/or KDramas.

Throwback Thursday - Amy Winehouse "Just Friends"

2015-01-29T13:03:00.001-05:00

This is one of my favorite Amy Winehouse songs. Still mad I never got to see her live. RIP

Foreign Friday - Studio Killers "Grande Finale"

2015-01-23T15:09:00.000-05:00

Origin: London?
Genre: Electronic, Dance, DJ

Foreign Friday - EXO "Overdose"

2015-01-16T10:01:00.001-05:00

Origin: Korea
Genre: Pop, R&B, Hip Hop
Website: exo.smtown.com

So this song is a year old, but I am just now obsessed with it because I started watching Roommate. It's a Korean reality show where 11 celebrities move into a big house together. For most, if not all of them, it's their first time living with other people that aren't their family or group members. And one of the roommates is Park Chan Yeol, a member of EXO. Also on the show is Park Bom from 2NE1 and Nana from After School.

Throwback Thursday - Ashley Tisdale "Be Good To Me"

2015-01-15T16:10:00.001-05:00

I randomnly thought about this song the other day. I miss the 2000's Disney Channel days, pre-Hannah Montana. Some good guilty pleasure music came out of that era.

Just Listen - Angie Fisher "IRS"

Forbes 30 Under 30 In Music

2015-01-06T10:24:00.000-05:00

You probably don't realize how young some of these hitmakers and industry people are. I certainly didn't. Here is Forbes 30 Under 30 in music.

New-ish Music - Tink ft. Charlamagne the God "Around the Clock"

2015-01-05T14:57:00.001-05:00

Timbaland's newest protege is Tink. She is part Rye Rye, Angel Haze, and Jhene Aiko. A number of artists, including Justin Timberlake have been telling us to watch out for her. Now that I've finally heard her song, I'm a little hopeful but also kind of underwhelmed. I like the old school sound Timbaland went with. Sounds like that mid to late 90s era that made him who he is. But why is Charlamagne the God on the song? I see where they were going with it, but it sounds a bit unnecessary.

Happy Holidays!!

Throwback Thursday - Ruff Endz "No More"

2014-12-18T14:02:00.001-05:00

This one goes out to the '99 and the 2000s! The fact that it has been 14 years since this song came out, is disturbing me. The outfits...the outfits, haha. If you are wondering what they are up to, they put out a self-titled album in 2013. And they are from Baltimore, who knew.

New-ish Music - D'Angelo "Sugah Daddy"

2014-12-16T12:56:00.002-05:00

If for some reason you haven't heard this yet, here you are. This is one of those songs that I need to hear bumping at a house party to fully appreciate. Not saying I don't like it, but my simple earbuds are not doing it justice. I need it playing on vinyl, with just enough bass.

Foreign Friday - Lylit "Unknown"

2014-12-12T12:21:00.002-05:00

Lylit - Unknown (Official Music Video)

MTV premiered Lylit's new music video for "Unknown" this week. I really hope 2015 is going to be her year.

Throwback Thursday - Ja Rule ft. Ashanti "Always On Time"

2014-12-04T12:53:00.000-05:00

I was at a trivia night this week, and when we didn't know the answer we put down Ashanti, haha. Apparently the week before, she was one of the picture questions and nobody got it right except for the black people, haha. Regardless of her current irrelevance, you have to admit she had a hot little run.
