ACACIA is starting something new for fall 2010. The ACACIA Leadership Scholarship is sponsored by our alumni, and designed to encourage academic achievement and leadership among CU students. The program will be promoted heavily during orientation, and the first few weeks of school. Then in September, an interview panel of ACACIA members and alumni will decide the winner. Candidates will be judged on their grades, leadership experience, and community service involvement and the lucky winner student will receive $1000 towards their tuition and expenses.

After lengthy discussions about who should be eligible, it was decided that the scholarship will be open to any CU student, male or female. Obviously, this means that the winner is NOT required to pledge ACACIA. Academics is one of our core values, and we feel that the academic integrity of the scholarship, and in fact the whole fraternity, would be compromised if there were "strings attached".

If this fall goes well, ACACIA plans to expand the program, by soliciting more funding to increase the number of recipients, as well as offer another scholarship in the spring.

BOULDER, CO - This fall, Acacia Fraternity moved into our new house at 1139 12th Street on The Hill. This historic two-story American Colonial house is built with red flagstone, and is over 100 years old. It features spacious front and back porches, as well as a second floor balcony, all of which are excellent for entertaining company as well as taking in the fine view of beautiful Boulder. Recent renovations over the summer have left the house with the perfect balance of original charm and updated amenities. The original woodwork and ornate radiators are complemented by renovations such as a new kitchen, and plantation shutters on all the windows in the chapter room.

The University Hill neighborhood is the center of Greek life in Boulder. And with almost all of the University's fraternities and sororities living within 3 blocks of the Acacia house, it is the best possible location for our growing fraternity. We're looking forward to a great year with our immediate neighbors, the beautiful ladies of the Delta Gamma and Alpha Chi Omega sororities. In fact, they've already serenaded us, and joined us for the inaugural party at the house.

If you're a male student at CU, we invite you to come by anytime, rush week or not, to tour the house and learn more about the Fraternity. Contact our Recruitment Chairman, Aaron Henson, at 719-332-8560 or aaron.henson@colorado.edu to learn more.

Alumni are also welcome at the house anytime, and we especially encourage you to stop by before any home football game to enjoy a BBQ on the back patio.

At the beginning of this semester, Acacia participated in the Greek community's formal Rush for our first time since recolonization. We held several events at local restaurants, and had a great turnout. We are proud to announce that six men accepted bids, and were formally pledged on Sunday, February 22nd. Here, in their own words, is a little bit about each of the pledges:

My name is Nicolas Brown and I am a freshman from California. This is my first year at CU Boulder and I am pledging for Acacia during the Spring 2009 semester. My major is currently Open Option, but I hope to apply to Leeds during the Fall semester of my Sophomore year and, ideally, pursue a degree in Business. I am looking forward to maturing as an individual in Acacia fraternity and to the challenges that await me during my career at CU.

My name is Kristian Diankov, and I'm a freshman from Longmont, CO, though my family is originally Bulgarian. I'm majoring in Economics here at the University of Colorado at Boulder and hope to one day run a successful consulting firm focusing on helping middle class families deal with their finances at only a modest cost. I love biking, hiking, skiing and am currently teaching myself on the guitar. I pledged with Acacia because it seems like a great opportunity to build a chapter from the ground up and really leave my mark on something for future generations.

My name is Scott Posilkin, I am from Bethesda Maryland, right outside Washington D.C. I am a freshman here at CU, where I am majoring in psychology. I love the outdoors, and spent this past summer as an outdoor staffer teaching kids to hike, cave, raft ect. Besides the outdoors, my hobbies include computers, snowboarding, and chillin. A little know fact about me is that last year I spent time volunteering at a rescue station on an ambulance. Proud to be a future bro of acacia.

Andrew Sorensen graduated from Chatfield Senior High School, in Littleton, Colorado, in 2008. His interests include running, skiing, writing, and politics. He is currently a Pre-Journalism major and will be applying to CU's advertising program. After graduation from college he would like to work as a creative director for an advertising firm.

Hi, my name is Kyle Thurman and I am from Broomfield, Colorado. Currently I am Open Option in the Arts and Sciences school. I still am not sure what I want to do after graduation, but my passions in life include golf and music. I may also consider going into Astronomy. I am very proud and excited to join Acacia.

My name is Devin Younge. I'm an Electrical and Computer Engineering major and a freshman at the University of Colorado. I like snowboarding, and I want to get into it more. I also play a lot of video games, and workout at the gym whenever possible. Although I didn't have much of an interest in technology, electronics, and what really goes on inside of a computer until recently, I've already decided that I would really love to work designing and building electronic components or software for all sorts of purposes. By the time I graduate, I will be working with the Department of Defense or Lockheed Martin on some top secret innovation, or designing the latest video game with a studio company somewhere in the world.
