Big Sky Documentary Film Festival

The Big Sky Documentary Film Festival is hosting the second annual

Big Sky International Documentary Pitch Session on February 23, 2012.

The pitch will take place as part of Big Sky Doc Shop (Feb 21-24), a

four day non-fiction industry forum during the ninth annual film

festival.

Entry Fee: $25

Submission Deadline: January 6, 2012

Filmmakers have the opportunity to pitch their

work-in-progress(WIP)documentaries to some of the top commissioning

editors and funders for documentary film in North America. All

documentary forms and all subjects are eligible to submit.

Commissioning editors will critique and comment on each pitch. A

maximum of 15 projects will be accepted to pitch in this session.

Potential participants should submit a brief (250 words maximum)

project summary and an additional one-paragraph project status

report. A short (5 minutes maximum) sample reel of the

work-in-progress may be submitted (via vimeo, youtube.com, blip.tv,

etc.) in addition to the written application. Selected projects will

have 20 minutes to pitch their project and show a short sample (if

available) for the panel. Selected projects will be required to pay

an additional $75 to participate, and will be notified of their

acceptance by January 11, 2012.

Confirmed participants include: Diane Weyermann (Executive Vice

President, Documentary Films, Participant Media), Yance Ford (Series

Producer, POV/The American Documentary), and Reva Goldberg

French Film Contest

At the occasion of the 6th World Water Forum, that will take place in Marseille (France) from March 12 to 17, 2012, the International Secretariat for Water launches the 3rd edition of the International Water and Film Events. (IWFE)

Movie directors, producers, water stakeholders, students, youths… and all citizens, wishing to express their views on water are invited to participate in this competition.

An international jury will give out 16 awards (27 600 $US in prizes) during a special ceremony at the 6th World Water Forum.
The competition is free. 5 categories are open to the competition:

·         The “Soft Spot” category (10 minutes max.) by 11-16 year-olds;
·         A VidéEau category (1 minute max.) by 17-30 year-olds;
·         Personal stories-type documentaries (max. 26 minutes) made by civil society organisations, local stakeholders, etc.;
·         Scientific or educational films (max. 26 minutes);
·         Documentaries made by film professionals for screening in cinemas
or on television.

Deadline for registration is November 30th 2011 and we must receive your movies by the 31st of December 2011.

Short Film Competition with Legal Theme!

The Forum on Law, Culture & Society is currently accepting submissions for our inaugural Short Film Competition on a legal theme.

Winning shorts will be screened during the annual Forum Film Festival in New York City in October 2012. Each year the Forum’s Film Festival features renowned filmmakers, actors, writers, journalists, public intellectuals, and members of the legal profession. The Film Festival also attracts overflowing and diverse crowds of film enthusiasts, which provides a great platform for showcasing your winning work.

While this is a legal-themed film competition, we want you to have fun, be creative and take some chances on new approaches. Any genre goes—musical, documentary, thriller, drama, romantic comedy, to name a few. We are looking for films dealing with the law and legal issues, not just a police drama or murder mystery. Visit the Forum Web site for an idea of the variety of legal-themed films that have been screened at Forum events.

Students, independent filmmakers and amateur/aspiring filmmakers are all invited to enter.

Videographer Needed Right Away!

We need a videographer for 10/3 Day 2 of songwriting in the classroom, 10/17 Day 3 at the recording studio and then editing of the final product into a music video using the song created by the students.

The video will be promoted in ASCAP’s Playback Magazine (circulation to 85,000 songwriters, composers and music industry professionals) and also on www.ASCAP.com

The songwriter residency is a mentorship program that provides a platform for songwriters to easily connect and give back to their local communities by engaging and inspiring elementary and middle school students in under-resourced neighborhoods.

America SCORES is a national youth development program that works with kids living in high risk urban areas. Their goal is to get kids engaged before they drop out. They go into under funded schools that have little to no after school programming and they create a full fall, and fullspring season, 5 days/week, soccer and poetry. SCORES kids play soccer three days a week (team-building and fitness) and write poetry two days a week (literacy and self expression.) They work with 5000 kids in 200 schools in 15 cities, after school, every day. The 34th Starz Denver Film Festival, is scheduled for Nov. 2 - 13, 2011.

CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS!

We have a NEW wonderful, on-line system for Volunteer Registration and Scheduling this year, called SHIFTBOARD! As always, alll SDFF volunteers will receive a movie voucher for every five hours of work AND (as always) you will have a GREAT TIME, while at the same time, contribute to the success of the festival! Volunteers should be 18 years or older.

There are 3 easy steps to become a Volunteer for the Starz Denver Film Festival. Anyone interested in volunteering:

Volunteers will then schedule themselves for the shifts in the departments that they are interested in filling. All volunteers will be notified of shifts 2 days prior to the day of a shift.

Sadho Poetry Film Festival, Hurry Deadline is Soon!

Entries are being invited for the 3rd Sadho Poetry Film Fest. This unique biennial festival, is the first and only one of its kind in Asia, and showcases the finest Poetry Films from all over the world.

Please tell the students, faculty and other filmmakers about this festival and this festival has a special student section.

We have had two successful festivals since 2007 where Sadho presented 136 films from 30 countries. Besides the main events in New Delhi, the travel version of the festival has taken the films to twelve other cities in India.

Every year we host an annual travel video contest that students can participant in to win cash and other great prizes! I wanted to let you know about it so that you can share this opportunity with your students. It's a great way for students to win money and cool prizes! London International Documentary Festival

CALL FOR FILMS 2012

The London International Documentary Festival (LIDF) in association with the London Review of Books is calling for submissions. The call is open and international. All subject matter is considered. Short and Feature length films are accepted. First time and established filmmakers all welcome. This year, for the first time, there will be a special section for student films and an award - Best Student Film. Films must be produced after January 1st 2010.

The LIDF is the UK's largest independent documentary festival. Since 2007 the festival has worked to ensure that London is host to exciting, diverse, challenging and inspiring films from every corner of the globe.

The festival is committed to providing the highest quality platform for international documentaries and their directors. It does this by working with globally recognised partners and venues, such as the British Museum, the Barbican Centre, and the TATE modern. It also provides a year-round programme of screenings and other events.

The LIDF 2012 is scheduled to run between 23 May to 3 June 2012.

Actuality Media

Actuality Media is an organization that takes media students to developing countries to produce videos for social enterprises and nonprofits.

Last summer we had three successful outreaches in Latin America. In the summer of 2012 we are going back – Nicaragua, Honduras and Guatemala - and we are seeking out interested students to join us on this adventure.

A quick summary:

Lack of access to media resources keeps many brilliant social organizations out of the international spotlight. Actuality Media aims to rectify that.

Next summer, up to 5 crews will travel for a month to each outreach location. While on site, each 4-student crew will research, write, shoot and edit a short documentary film about a local social enterprise under the guidance of a supervising producer. Once the documentary is completed, the social enterprises that are the subject of the films will use the media to further their mission. The films these students create will be distributed internationally.

There is a program fee to participate in the outreaches, but it is very competitive compared to other study abroad and volunteering opportunities. There are currently no other organizations arranging video production programs like this. Students may apply either as individuals or in teams.

"Ritmo En Los Barrios" is just one video our crews made last summer.

Also, if you know any students that are finished with school after the current term, please let them know that we are still accepting applications for our January outreach to Chiang Mai, Thailand.

eurocinema Celebrates Global Cinema with the Launch of the First Ever On Demand Short Film Competition

Winning Entries to Be Showcased On Demand to 36 Million TV Homes in North America on eurocinema Beginning September 27 2011.

MIAMI, September 26, 2011 -- eurocinema, the only 24/7 channel dedicated to European films on North American television, has launched the first ever on demand film contest, the “Eurocinema Short Film Competition,” the announcement was made today by company founder/CEO Sebastien Perioche.

From September 23 through December 15, 2011, aspiring filmmakers from around the globe may enter their best short film works in the categories of Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Screenplay. Winners in the Best Director, Actor, Actress and Screenplay Categories will also have their films showcased on the channel for a minimum of three months, reaching 36 million cable and satellite homes in the United States and Canada.

Whether you left your heart in your Colorado hometown or still call our beautiful state home, we want you to grab your cameras and capture those stories on film!.

YOUR MISSION
Make a short film, up to 5 minutes in length, that expresses why Colorado has your heart.

YOUR PRIZE?
The top three films will receive a public screening in the Colorado Filmmakers Showcase at the 34th Starz Denver Film Festival, November 2nd through 13th. In addition, the 1st Place winner will receive travel assistance and a full-access pass ($1,000 value) to the Festival and their film showcased on Colorado.gov, the official website for the State of Colorado.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Submit your short film between September 19th and October 14th, 2011 and then get your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers to vote for you. Utilize social media, (Facebook, YouTube, etc.) to get your video seen and voted for! A judging panel will review the top ten qualified videos with the most public votes and will select the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners on October 27th, 2011. All short films must be original and cannot violate trademarks, copyrights, and/or rights of privacy or publicity. Contest is void where prohibited by law. WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Short film submissions and voting in the “Colorado, Home is Where the Heart Is” contest is open to all U.S. citizens 18 years or older. Consent forms and parental consent (if applicable) are required for all individuals appearing in videos. For more information and a downloadable "Release and Waiver" form, see Official Rules. Anyone can register to vote for their favorite video but are limited to one vote per day.

Uni Shorts: International Student Film Festival

Festival will be held in April 2012.

Work submitted to this festival will need to have been completed by student crews as part of a tertiary film programme.

The call for entries has now gone out and we invite your institution to take part. Please find attached an entry form and regulations. Please feel free to print extra copies of the entry form for interested students/grads to enter.We will accept submissions by mail until November 30, 2011. Registration is NZD$50 or NZD$40 early bird registration if submitted to us by October 30, 2011.

We need your assistance to bring this to the attention of your students/recent graduates and also to sign the application form to verify the films were made as part of a course of study. There will be prizes for three different categories: best New Zealand film, Best International entry, Outstanding Performance and Best Overall. See attached for details. Please forward this email and attachments to student/grad who may be interested. Feel free to print extra copies of the entry form for interested students/grads to enter.

This will be an exciting event and we are planning seminars around topics of concern to emerging film makers. If you ever wanted to visit Auckland, New Zealand, next April may be the perfect opportunity, as we would like as many guests as possible to attend.

FILMFORUM Media Association with Maciej Slesicki and Bogus³aw Linda`s Foundation for Education and Film Art LATERNA MAGICA proudly invites all independent filmmakers to participate in The 10th International Independent Feature Film Festival.
IIFFF is one of the major festivals of the independent cinema in Poland. Every year it provides an opportunity to present best feature films (animated as well) created in Poland and in other countries. Their authors have a unique opportunity to confront their creations with professional jury, other filmmakers and spontaneous audience.
The aim of The International Independent Feature Film Festival is not only to present the best films but also to reveal different aspects of the phenomenon labeled as independent cinema and its genres from various parts in the world.
The criterion of independence in case of IIFFF is treated relatively widely - the competition will see student shorts as well as professional full length feature films and entirely amateur productions will not be forgotten. There is no limitation to the topics and convention of films presented . The only restriction is that the films have to be non-commercial and match the profile of the festival (fiction films).
The upcoming edition of the festival will be held in the cinema "Kinoteka" in Warsaw, Poland between November 2 and 6, 2011. The deadline for the films in DVD format, along with entry forms is 10 October 2011, they should be sent to the following address:

The Slamdance Film Festival was created in 1995 to showcase new and emerging independent artists, filmmakers and storytellers.
As we gear up for the 18th Annual Film Festival, we are proud to announce our new trailer contest with our sponsors at Good Health Natural Foods. We are inviting university students from around the world to take part in a viral video production competition. The winning team will be rewarded with:
-£1,000 to the University’s Department
-£1,000 in cash to the production team
-Q&A sessions and portfolio/CV pitching opportunities with Stuart St Paul, possibly the most relevant person in the British film industry to young film students that will be looking to create serious portfolios of work to springboard their career. Stuart recently completely his third low budget independent film that has just come out of the Top Ten DVD charts in major supermarkets, is being distributed in the UK and Australia by Mel Gibson’s ICON and has distribution deals with more than 20 other territories. The film is already profitable.
