Your gaming experience is getting better, and winning even easier, in Black Hawk thanks to Isle Casino Hotel Black Hawk. One of the town’s largest and long-time favorite casinos, The Isle routinely offers its patrons myriad ways to enjoy themselves – including exciting casino action, delicious dining, thrilling giveaways, great entertainment and comfortable hotel rooms – but February and March includes a wealth of special promotions to increase the odds of having an exciting visit to the City of Mills.

More points and giveaways

On the casino floor, casino visitors will find several promotions and rewards for playing at the Isle. The casino features more than 1,000 of the latest and most popular slot and video poker machines, blackjack, craps, roulette and live poker.

Every Tuesday in February, guests receive a free swipe of their Player’s Club card to reveal a point multiplier up to 12X points for the day in the “Points-A-Plenty” promotion. Simply take the voucher to the Player’s Club or cashier services to be enrolled in the point multiplier group any time before 9 p.m. Point multipliers will continue to be received until midnight.

The Isle offers more opportunities to earn more points while gaming based on a player’s age. The casino offers all guests age 50 or older the opportunity to join the new Paradise 50 Plus club Sundays and Mondays. Anyone who enrolls receives 3X points on all slots, 2X points on video poker, a free soft serve ice cream and a free Calypso’s buffet after earning five unadjusted points.

The casino also has special privileges for its patrons age 40 or older that can participate in the Fantastic 40 Plus club on Thursdays. Guests who enroll receive 4X points on slots, 2X points on video poker, a free buffet after earning five unadjusted points or earn 50 unadjusted points and receive $40 to Farraddays’ Steakhouse. Coming in March, casino guest can play in the “Flat Screen Frenzy.” Every Friday, Isle guests have the opportunity win a 60-inch LED TV every half hour between 4:30 – 9 p.m. Guests receive one free entry daily and can earn additional entries with each set of 10 unadjusted points on giveaway days. Participants must activate entries each Friday starting at 2:30 p.m., and then listen for their name to be called. Guests will have the option to take $1,000 in place of the TV.

The prizes don’t end in the living room. The Isle is also giving its guests the opportunity to win a Cadillac CTS in its “Just Your Style Car and Cash Giveaway.” The car will be given away on April 21. Guests receive one free entry daily and can earn additional entries with each set of 30 unadjusted points earned. Play on Tuesdays and receive 25X entries, play on March 1, March 17 and April 1 and 100X entries are earned.

Poker players included

One of the latest additions to the Isle Casino Hotel Black Hawk is its poker room. The 24-hour facility opened last year with 11 tables, comfortable chairs and amenities designed to appeal to the serious poker player. In February, card players have special promotions to give them an extra edge at the table.

Nothing beats free money, and that just what players who show up early in February will get. The first 10 players to buy-in to a live game from 10 – 11 a.m. will receive a $10 voucher after two hours of play. The $10 voucher can be redeemed the next day.

February also offers poker players a chance to enter the “Sunday $2,000 Freeroll Tournament.” Players qualify for the tournament after 15 hours of live play, Monday through Saturday.  With 15 hours, players will start with 5,000 chips, 20 hours will start with 12,000 chips and a $10 dealer special will get players an additional 3,000 chips. The tournament is limited to the first 50 qualifying players, which took place Feb. 5 and Feb. 12, and will continue every Sunday through March 4 at 3 p.m.

More tournaments are offered throughout the week all month long as well. On Tuesdays at 10 a.m., players can join the $45 Crazy Pineapple High/Lo tournament. On Thursdays a $45 Omaha High/Low tournament is held at 10 a.m. and at 7 p.m., a $90 Pot Limit Omaha Tournament takes place. Then, on Saturdays at noon, players can sign up for the $150 No Limit Hold’em tournament with a $2,000 tourney bad beat. Registration for all 10 a.m. tournaments, which all offer dealer appreciation bonuses, begins at 9 a.m.  Anyone who signs up before 9:30 a.m. gets a free buffet.

In March, there’s something happening daily in the Isle Poker Room as well. Starting on March 11, the Sunday Freeroll begins. Mondays and Wednesdays offer the “Morning High Hand,” 10 a.m. – noon. On Tuesdays, the $45 Crazy Pineapple Tournaments take place and on Thursdays, the $45 Omaha Hi/Lo Tournaments continue into March. Friday’s have another “Morning High Hand” event from 10 a.m. – noon along with a $45 No Limit Hold’em tournament at 10 a.m. Finally, on Saturdays, The Isle offers the “$150 No Limit Hold’em Tournament” with a $2K tourney bad beat along with “Saturday Cash Squares” at 3, 7 and 11 p.m.

Finally, guests in the poker room can take advantage of the “Jackpot Sweepstakes” if they qualify now through March 24 to win up to $10,000. Guests receive one free drawing entry with each hand-paid taxable jackpot of $1,200 or more.

Orchid Garden

The Isle is known for its outstanding dining options whether it’s casual, elegant, sit-down or takeout.

The casino main dining option is Calypso’s Buffet, open seven days a week, with its all-you-can-eat breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner buffets featuring breakfast spreads, salads, freshly baked breads, chicken and beef entrées, wood stone-baked pizzas, a wide variety of world cuisines, desserts and side dishes. Calypso’s dinner buffet features the biggest and best crab legs in Black Hawk every night.

All new members of the Player’s Club receive a free Calypso’s Buffet after playing 30 minutes on a new Player’s Card. After 30 minutes, guests simply present their new card to the hostess at Calypso’s to receive their buffet.

Anyone seeking a great burger, sandwich or salad, should give the fast and casual Tradewinds Marketplace a try. It’s perfect for a late night snack or quick meal in between games.

Farraddays’ Steakhouse offers a more formal atmosphere for dining at The Isle. The award-winning chef and kitchen team offer a menu featuring steak, seafood and seasonal specialties. The restaurant is open nightly at 5 p.m. and reservations are recommended.

Yet another option is the Orchid Garden. It is the casino’s newest restaurant and offers a selection of “delicate and exquisite Asian cuisines.” Orchid Garden is located next to the Mill Street sky walk and is open Monday through Thursday, 5 – 10 p.m. and Fridays; Saturdays, 11 a.m. – midnight, and Sundays, 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. Orchid Garden now offers a Happy Hour deal from open until 7 p.m., Sunday through Friday. For $8.95 guests receive their choice of entrée, steamed rice, appetizer and soup of the day or opt for pho or chicken or shrimp fried rice.

Orchid Garden also offers the only nightclub activity in Black Hawk with Ishi, Fridays and Saturdays, 10 p.m. – 2 a.m.

Maybe we should just take the walls down

Went south for a few days to enjoy the Mexican sunshine.   While Americans travel to Mexico resorts for a little mid-winter sunshine, many of the Hispanics still want to come to the United States – legally or illegally.

Why, there are many jobs in Cabo San Lucas where we were last week, but the pay is about $4 a day for many routine laborers.  There are many jobs in Mexico; skilled laborers are building new homes and condo units. They can hone their skills for small wages, but make far more in U.S. labor markets.

New car dealerships dot the coastline with a new Cadillac dealership joining Mercedes-Benz, which is adjacent to Volkswagen and Toyota.

In Cabo, we heard that the police chief was killed in recent months and that the resort community has attempted to keep drugs away from the southern Baja coastline. Unfortunately, where there is tourist money, drugs seem to find a way of appearing.

Americans continue to purchase these killers and fuel the competition and drug cartels to kill one another for the drug demand north of the border.

Someday it would make sense to take away the borders between Canada, Mexico and the United States and be similar to the European Euro zone. The dollar would be the legal currency and residents of the three nations could travel freely within the three.

Mexican workers could come to the United States and Canada where they would be welcome. Developers could go to Mexico and build more resorts and homes for people to escape the bitter winters to the north.

Health benefits would be equalized among the three countries and taxes and benefits would be the same for workers in all countries.   American taxpayers wouldn’t foot the bill for illegal immigrants anymore and everyone in all three countries would pay taxes and have a multi-country Social Security card.

We would then defend our shores, not our land borders, and save billions of dollars
for each country.  Many services could be combined, including national defense, medical services and law enforcement.

I know it’s a far-out idea, but it seems rather silly to be spending billions on keeping people out of each country with a system that doesn’t work very well.  There are an estimated 12 million Mexican citizens in the United States and some estimates range up to 25 million in all of the states. Bottom line, no one really knows the number.

Establishing a working USCANMEX business and cultural relationship might be a huge business boon and oil pipelines could run to Mexico or from Mexico to Los Angeles.  Canada’s natural resources would be open to further U.S. developments.

We maintain our national independence but we put the billions in guarding ourselves into educating students, caring for seniors and creating a strong job market within the three-nation coalition.

Having a week in the hot Mexican sunshine makes one wonder about all of the border nonsense when Americans, Canadians and Mexicans can be such good friends.

Something to think about, we need to think about the future and where new jobs will actually come from and how to create a strong democracy for everyone.
