Zywicki, Lincks Win Cottonwood Classic 5K

Hundreds of participants made their way to the Thorncreek Shopping Center in Thornton Saturday morning for the 18th Annual Cottonwood Classic 5K. With three different divisions: an overall runner’s division, school division and competitive race-walker’s division, there was something for everyone to enjoy! The men’s race saw top competitors Benjamin Zywicki and Adam Rich battle it out throughout the course. Runner’s Roost athlete Zywicki came out on top with a finishing time of 15:31. It’s hard to believe that the Cottonwood Classic 5K is approaching its 18th year running. The community event, held at Thorncreek Crossing Shopping Center at 120th and Washington Street is family friendly and has quickly become a favorite over the years. Fans of yours truly – Colorado Runner – even named the Cottonwood Classic the best 5K in 2010. One month and one day since a pair of bombs exploded along the finishing stretch of the 117th Boston Marathon, race organizers announced an invitation to participants who were stopped on the course prior to crossing the historic finish line on Boylston Street. Hundreds of participants flocked to City Park Saturday morning for the Girls on the Run 5K Rockies edition – a non-profit organization that provides an innovative health education and wellness program. Girls, women, boys and men took to the trails and roads around City Park to benefit the health and confidence of girls nationwide.
