Explore This! 8 Online Exhibition – Accepted Artworks have been Selected

You can now see the list of accepted artists and artworks at the cpsa.org website. Soon you will be able to see the actual artwork and the award winners. The exhibition begins February 1^st and will be online for a full year. As always the artwork is varied and innovative.

The Fall-Winter To The Point and the 2012 Membership Directory are both at the printers currently and should be in the mail very soon.

Convention Registration for the 2012 – 20^th Annual CPSA International Exhibition

We are happy to announce that the convention registration is now available on our website. The information is included in the downloadable prospectus. You can register for Thursday and Friday workshops by Eileen Sorg and John Ursillo, the Awards Banquet and our Saturday Speaker, Jamie Markle. Registration can be completed through PayPal using either a PayPal account or a major credit card. You can also mail In payment via the USPS. Remember, however, that registration is not complete until your payment is received.

Get Those Pencils Sharpened and Ready!

The Prospectus for the 20th Annual CPSA Exhibition is now available at the cpsa.org website. It is a downloadable PDF file. The exhibition for 2012 will be held in Covington, KY at The Carnegie, Visual and Performing Arts Center. Deadline for entries is March 31, 2012. The dates for the exhibition are July 13 – August 30, 2012. You can enter your artwork in the exhibition through the call for entry.org website using this link.

Again we are planning a great convention featuring workshops with two outstanding and award-winning artists, Eileen Sorg, CPSA and John Ursillo, CPSA. Download your copy of the prospectus to see the details of the workshops. We will also be treated to a great Saturday event featuring Jamie Markle, this year’s juror, who will provide valuable information on getting your artwork published. Registration for the convention will be opened in January at the cpsa.org website.

Membership Deadline

We are fast approaching the December 31 deadline to renew your membership (or to join CPSA) in time to be listed in our 2012 Membership Directory. The new Directory and Fall-Winter 2011 To The Point will be mailed only to members of record as of December 31. Those who renew after that date will need to order their copies from the website at an additional charge to cover individual shipping and handling. So, if you have not yet paid online or sent off your check, now is the time! Membership

November 15th is the deadline for entries for the Explore This! 8 Online Exhibition. Your innovative and unique entries to this mixed media show are wanted to make this a great show. This is a great opportunity to share your artwork without having to ship the original. Entries need to be uploaded to http://callforentry.org . The prospectus is available at cpsa.org and at https://www.callforentry.org/index.php

Have You Renewed Your CPSA Membership Yet?
Our thanks to those who have, but if you haven’t renewed for 2012 yet, you can:
1) renew online from the CPSA website (www.cpsa.org/ShoppingCart),
2) mail a check with the renewal card you received in August, or
3) print the form from the website and mail it in.
Remember, the final deadline for inclusion in the 2012 Directory is December 31. Don’t wait until the last minute! (Note: last chance to avoid loss of acceptances or Signature status for members who did not renew for 2011 from 2010 is October 31! Look for the special 2011 renewal option on the website.)

Explore This! 8 Open for Entries

Explore This! 8 is now open for entries at http://callforentry.org. You can find the prospectus on our website and at the CaFÉ (callforentry.org) website. The deadline for entries is November 15, 2011, and the show will open February 1, 2012.

This is your opportunity to use other media and techniques not allowed for the CPSA International Exhibition as long as your artwork is predominantly colored pencil. If you are a CPSA member, acceptance will count toward earning our new CPX Signature status established for Explore This! shows.

It’s never too early to start! Pencils ready? Start drawing. We’re waiting to see the entries.

New rates for Membership

CPSA has new membership rates starting with the 2012 year. A U.S. or Canadian membership is now $45 and residents of other countries will pay $65. Lifetime Memberships are also available. As you know, for this membership fee you receive a member directory, 2 issues of the news magazine, To The Point, reduced fees for convention, exhibitions and workshops – still a good deal!

Another Explore This! Show is on the horizon

The Prospectus is at the website as of September 1^st. Entries will be accepted after September 15^th with a deadline of November 15^th. The show will be online from February 1^,2011 through January 31, 2012.

Convention Recap - What's Next?

The convention in Dallas/Richardson, Texas has just concluded. CPSA sends a round of applause and thanks to host District Chapter 215 for their part in making this year’s event such a success.

The Thursday evening membership meeting included the raffle drawing for 8 wonderful Top of the Line products donated by Patrons and Sponsors. Again there was the excitement of bidding on the Silent Auction artworks donated by CPSA members. Thank you to all of the donors and winners for supporting this fund-raising event.

We are also excited to announce that upcoming conventions will be held in the following cities: Covington KY (Greater Cincinnati area) in 2012 and Brea CA again in 2013. Plan ahead—we want to have as many of you attend as possible.

The convention closed with the Awards Banquet on Friday and a Reception at the Charles W. Eisemann Center on Saturday. You can view the list of award winners and images at the CPSA website. Awards Link This year’s Best of Show and CIPPY winner is CJ Worlein of Oregon with her beautiful and sensitive artwork titled “The Sisters.”

If you are in the Dallas area, the show continues until August 1st.

Convention Notes

If you are coming to the convention in Dallas, and we hope you are, the airport recommends advance reservations for shuttles to the hotel. See the prospectus or the latest CPSA newsletter for those numbers. Also, Dallas has two airports so be sure you have your shuttle reserved at the correct airport. (DAL = Love Field; DFW = Dallas/Fort Worth International).

The 19^th Exhibition is only days from being a reality. The show will be opening June 29^th at the Charles W. Eisemann Center in Dallas. Paintings have been arriving this week. We are confident it will be a beautiful show. The last day to register on line for the Convention and its events is July 1^st.

WORKSHOPS & HOTEL DEADLINE for Convention

It’s time to make sure that you have your hotel and workshop reservations in place. The deadline for the CPSA Special Hotel rate is Monday, June 20^th, and the number of rooms at that price is limited. The hotel is the Renaissance Dallas Richardson Hotel and you can make reservations at 972-367-2000. Mention CPSA when you make the reservation so that you will receive the special rate.

Workshops are filling as well so be sure you are able to get the date and workshop that you wish. One day Workshops are offered July 14^th and 15^th with Sheila Theodoratos, CPSA and Bonnie Auten, CPSA. The List of Accepted Artists for the 19th International Exhibition is now available. It took extra time this year--unfortunate but unavoidable by CPSA. However, we appreciate the kind and understanding emails that we received. Sometimes life just makes its own plans and we are required to adapt to those plans.

Please accept our congratulations to those whose artwork was chosen for the exhibition. We are looking forward to viewing a great exhibition at the Charles W. Eisemann Center in Dallas, TX.

Update - Regrettable Further Delay

We regret the delay in the publication of the Accepteds List, but we are at the mercy of the juror providing his final decision. The list will be posted as soon as we have it in our hands. Paula Parks, Exhibition Director, has been in touch with the juror several times today and, while the list was promised before the end of the day, it has still not been delivered. We are doing the best we can to have the list available at the earliest possible time.

We will keep you informed; hopefully it will not be necessary to report further delays.

No matter how many times documents are proofread, errors sometimes slip by. We want to call to your attention that the Artists' Reception for the CPSA 19th Convention is on Saturday, July 16, 2011.

Entries are in and the jurying will be coming up soon. It will be exciting to see the accepted entries when they are announced. Start planning to attend the convention. There will be exciting and informative workshops, a Saturday Trade Show, Members Meeting, Reception, Banquet and seeing and meeting old and new friends.

Juror Ken Rollins has selected the artworks that will be included in the CPSA Explore This! 7 Online Exhibition. A wide variety of styles and an interesting and innovative collection of media are included in this mixed media show. The Prospectus has been a few days later than expected in being available, but it is every bit as important and full of information about the exhibition and the convention which will be held this year in Dallas. You can find it now at the www.cpsa.org website. The link is on the home page, and it is also here. 2011 Prospectus. Be sure to read the Specifications and Requirements carefully. This exhibition requires 100% colored pencil. Last year's awards totaled over $14,000. As in previous years, submissions are accomplished on line through http://www.callforentry.org (CaFE).

Featured Artist at the CPSA.org website

Please visit the website-- Harada/Featured Artist-- to get a bit more acquainted with the 2010 winner of the CIPPY Award at the 18th Annual International Exhibition. Shinji Harada, a Signature Member, won this prestigious and valuable award with his "Grapes in a Basket." Shinji resides in Yokohama, Japan and has had artwork accepted in four CPSA International Exhibitions and won awards in three of them. Congratulations, Shinji.

Explore This! 7 Entry Deadline November 15th

The entry deadline for the CPSA online exhibition, Explore This! 7, is only a few short days away. November 15th will be the last day to submit your entry for this exhibition. Remember that the art for this exhibition does not have to be for sale and does not have to be shipped--two very important considerations. The accepted artwork will be posted at the CPSA website for an entire year--February 1, 2011 to January 31, 2012. Be sure to enter using the CaFE (callforentry.org) website. You do not have to be a member of CPSA to enter. Member and nonmember entries are given the same consideration. If you have more than one entry, be sure to submit them at the same time. The prospectus containing rules and entry information can be found at the www.cpsa.org website. Select the link in the left column on the home page.

SIGNATURE SHOWCASE BOOKS

The Signature Showcase books have been received from the publisher and Kay Schmidt is now processing the first 250 orders. For one person to box, tape, label, and deliver the books to the post office is quite a task. Rest assured, however, if you have already ordered a book (or books), your order is currently being processed. If you included an email address with your order, you will also be notified when the book is shipped. For orders placed after October 15^th, please allow 2 – 3 weeks for shipping.

If you haven’t already heard about this new book, it is a full color, high quality soft cover book (size 8"h x 10"w) containing artwork by 177 CPSA Signature members. Statements accompany the artwork to give insight into the creative processes used by these artists.

EXPLORE THIS! 7

If you haven’t submitted your entry yet for the Explore This! 7, don’t panic yet. The entry deadline is November 15^th. This exhibition is a juried on line exhibition which will appear on the CPSA website for one full year—February 1, 2011 through January 31, 2012. Awards include a $1500 cash award for Best of Show. This is your chance to show your versatility and sense of adventure by combining colored pencil with other media or using colored pencil on a different surface or several surfaces. Please review the prospectus (available at www.cpsa.org) to ensure that your artwork meets the specifications. Then submit your entry using the callforentry.org website (CaFE).

Instructions for entering are included in the prospectus and there is a document to assist with sizing your image properly. The CaFE site also has instructions to assist you. If you still have questions regarding preparation of your materials, please contact Paula Parks, Exhibition Director. Her email address and phone number are included in the prospectus.

Juror for this show is Ken Rollins who has served as Executive Director of four art museums in Florida, all of which were very successful under his leadership and he has served on several advisory boards for art museums.

2011 MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL

November 1st marks the beginning of another year in CPSA. 2011 renewal cards for current members are at the printer and will be mailed in the next few weeks. Although your 2010 CPSA membership is current until Oct 31st, we will begin processing renewals on September 1. Look for your renewal card in the mail.

There are two ways to pay your CPSA Membership Dues, by mail or online at the website, www.cpsa.org. CPSA's online payment vehicle is Paypal, but you do not need to have a Paypal account to use the online service. If you pay by mail, please remember to send in your renewal card or a membership application found at our website.

Please note memberships outside the US or Canada will be $55 starting in 2011.

Convention Recap - Top Award to Shinji Harada of Japan

TOP WINNER of 18th Annual is CPSA Signature Member Shinji Harada of Japan, who was unable to accept his award in person. This was Shinji’s fourth time and third award in our International Exhibition. Shinji also has the honor of being our first international top award winner. The title of his winning artwork is "Grapes in a Basket". More about this artist coming soon.

There are 19 other award winners. The artists' names, titles of the artwork and images can be found at Winners 2010.

The convention was held at the Santa Clara Biltmore Hotel with events happening every day. Following two days of meetings by the Board and the District Chapter delegates, there were two days of workshops by CPSA members, Ester Roi and Allan Servoss. As usual, the popular Membership Meeting on Thursday evening wowed the audience by showing all entries to this year's show and giving out a multitude of door prizes. In fact, all members who put a ticket in at the meeting received a door prize! The most exciting part of the Membership Meeting evening is learning who has the winning bids for the Silent Auction pieces. This year after a feverish final round of bidding, the top bid was for the work by Elizabeth Patterson, CPSA (CA). You can see the entire group of donations at 2010 Silent Auction.

The 20th Anniversary fundraising raffle for which we sold tickets brought in just under $2000. We are very grateful to those of you who bought tickets and the multiple winners this year are very pleased as well.

It was a great time to be together. If you haven't attended a convention, please try to fit it into your plans for next year. More information on that event coming soon.

This fun-filled event gives convention attendees an opportunity to purchase original colored pencil artwork and at the same time raises money for CPSA. Some of our best artists have generously donated 36 beautiful works, so take a look and decide which ones you might want to purchase for your collection.

18th Annual CPSA Convention/Exhibition fast approaching

HOTEL RESERVATIONS
If you haven't already made reservations at the Santa Clara Biltmore, now is the time to act. CPSA reserves a block of rooms in order to obtain a special rate (Garden Rooms $99.00 + Tax for up to 4 people; Tower Suites $109.00 + Tax for up to 4 people; Japanese/American breakfast buffet included). These affordable rates apply until July 16, 2010 or until the CPSA block is full. We are currently at 80% capacity, so do yourself a favor and book your room soon.

ROOMMATE SERVICE
If you are interested in sharing a room with another convention attendee, please let Gemma Gylling know (conventions@cpsa.org). She will put you in touch with others who are looking for a roommate.

We hope to see many of there at the convention, it should be lots of fun. It is, after all, the 20th anniversary of CPSA!

AWARD NOTIFICATION
With the exhibition opening less than a week before the convention starts, the award judging will take place later than usual. 18th International Exhibition

The artwork for the 18^th exhibition has been chosen by our juror Janet Bishop, curator of painting and sculpture at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. You can view the list of selected artists on the cpsa.org website. Congratulations to each of those included in the show. Final jurying for Awards will be July 22^nd after the artwork arrives at the exhibition location.

Order Your DVD of the 2010 Exhibitions

CPSA offers a DVD of the two exhibitions held this year—Explore This! 6, our online exhibition, and the 18^th International Exhibition. This is a great way to have a record of the exhibition and a way to view the artwork if you are unable to attend the convention or visit the gallery. The DVD will play on computers with DVD software and on your TV monitor if you have DVD capabilities on it. It comes with an optional music background. All entries are identified with the artist’s name and the title of the artwork. You can learn more about the DVD and purchase your copy at the cpsa.org website.

20^th Anniversary Fundraiser Raffle

Support CPSA and give yourself an opportunity to win some wonderful prizes including boxed pencil sets and an Icarus Drawing Board. Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00.
