Oak Grove Jorgensen Farms | New Albany Ohio

It feels like forever since we had a wedding! It has really only been about 2 months, but it still feels like a long time. We are so used to having multiple weddings every month.  It was a PERFECT start to the second half of our wedding season with Kelsey and Kyle.  Kelsey and Kyle’s Oak Grove wedding was an amazing start to August and I am so thankful that they chose us to be their photographers for their small wedding this year and their larger reception next year!

Kelsey and Kyle were both so excited and the nervous were going like crazy before their first look.  They totally melted and relaxed once they had their first look with each other.  They were so sweet and read their personal vows to each other during their first look.  Reading their personal vows was such a beautiful moment for them during their first look.  It gave them a chance to really connect before the ceremony.  I absolutely adore when our couples have a first look for this reason.

After the first look, we dodged some rain showers that were nearby and finished up their portraits and the wedding party pictures.  That leads us right into their intimate ceremony inside the greenhouse.  It was a ceremony full of laughter with some funny moments happening.   Once the ceremony was done and family pictures were finished – we grabbed a couple more portrait pictures of just Kelsey and Kyle and headed into their appetizer hour.  They had an adorable cake and individual cupcakes for everyone to take home.  Toasts with champagne and delicious appetizers for everyone.

Thank you so much Kelsey and Kyle for having us as your wedding photographers this year and next.  We loved every moment of your day and can not wait to share more of your reception day with you in 2021!

St. Charles Preparatory School Christmas Wedding | Emily and Connor

Bexley, Ohio Wedding

Who is ready for some Christmas in July?  Emily and Connor had a beautiful Christmas wedding in December at St. Charles Preparatory school in Bexley, Ohio. St. Charles was the perfect location for their wedding because Connor went to school there and Emily and him attended several school dances there.  What better way to tie the knot than to do it where you have so many beautiful memories!

Emily and Connor had a gorgeous day for their wedding.  A lot of times I hear about couples worried about it being too cold in December – while that totally can happen – they lucked out and had a warm day for December!  We were able to be outside and take so many gorgeous photos and not freeze! Yay!  Talk about good luck on your wedding day.

Emily planned touches of red through the wedding day from the bridesmaid dresses to the flowers and centerpieces.  The hint of red really made the Christmas theme come through in their classic themed wedding. Her wedding dress was perfectly classic with long sleeves of lace and a perfect jeweled belt.

Thank you so much Emily and Connor for having us as your wedding photographers. It was a blast and a perfect way to wrap up 2019!

Franklin Park Conservatory Engagement Session | Jen + Dan

Autumn Columbus, Ohio Engagement session

Jen and Dan had an awesome engagement session at Franklin Park Conservatory in the fall time.  There were so many flowers still blooming like crazy, the leaves had just started to change and it was just gorgeous!  I couldn’t wait to meet up with both of them since we had only chatted on the phone and had yet to actually meet in person.  Jen told me they were bringing both of their adorable furry pets including a cat!  This is only the second time I have been able to have a cat at an engagement session and it was so much fun!  Cats always make me a little bit nervous because I know if it were my cat she would just run the opposite direction and be way to excited about exploring!

We started out running around the outside of the Franklin Park Conservatory area.   The inside is always so pretty – but the gardens that surround the conservatory in Franklin Park are also awesome! One of my favorite areas is the part by The Wells Barn.  We have photographed a wedding at The Wells Barn and it is adorable.  The community gardens in the back area are one of my favorite gardens to shoot at with all the adorable barn areas, walkways, and TONS of flowers and greenery.  The community gardens did not disappoint at all for a fall engagement session.   Jen and Dan –  I can’t wait for your August wedding!  They were supposed to get married in April but the world got a bit crazy – so now we are all celebrating in August and it is going to be awesome! Can’t wait to see you soon!

Every single wedding day for us begins with the details of the wedding day.  Photographing all the details really gives us a feel for the general theme and style of the wedding – Elegant, timeless, modern, outdoors, sophisticated, etc.

We love to come to a wedding space and say hello and greet everyone.  One of the first items we as our couples is for their details so Scott and I can photograph everything.  With over 10+ years of photographing since 2007 – we know the easiest way for our couples to give us all their details is if they have them already collected and in a bag or box waiting for us!

A box that contains ALL of the bridal details and ALL of the groom’s details is so helpful! You do not have to spend precious time looking through bags and suitcases to find where you put your shoes and your hairpiece in your other bag… his tie with his suit and his socks in his suitcase! It makes it so easy and if you are anything like me I love having all the important items in 1 bag when I travel so I know exactly where everything is and I just go to 1 bag.

Here are the most common details that we ask for and WHO should have them on the wedding day!

The most important tip I can give is to have ALL 3 wedding rings with the BRIDE.

I shoot all the wedding rings with the bridal jewelry and invitation.  If the rings are with the guys in a hotel across town then I will not be able to shoot them. So – make sure to keep all the rings with the bride and we can always hand them over to the Bestman before the ceremony!

Bridal Details:

all 3 wedding rings

Full invitation suite with envelopes (Invite, RSVP cards, envelopes, info cards, etc)

Jewelry (necklaces, bracelets, heirloom rings, and jewelry)

Shoes

Wedding Dress + Veil or hairpiece

Bouquet (make sure the flowers are delivered to where the girls are getting ready)

Loose florals – Usually the florist will have extra florals leftover or sprigs of greenery. Ask if she can include those with your bouquet so I can use the florals to tie your details altogether.

Perfume bottle

Garter if applicable

Save the Date

Groom Details:

Suit + Tie/bowtie

Cuff links

Watch

Belt

Socks + Shoes

Any special items or heirloom items

New Albany Ohio Engagement Session | Kayla + Brian

Greenhouse inspired Photos

I had a lot of sessions in New Albany last year, and a lot of them had crazy weather!  Kayla and Brian’s session was one of those with crazy weather! We had debated on rescheduling but found Oakland Nursery in New Albany was both adorable and had a pretty large greenhouse area that would be PERFECT for when it started to pour rain.  Kayla and Brian were excellent and a total dream to work with.  They were so adorable and made each other laugh during their entire New Albany Ohio engagement session!  Also – Brian gives the most adorable little kisses to Kayla that were so cute on camera!   I can’t wait for their wedding at The Columbus Zoo later this year. It will be great to see their smiling faces, and we can hope for no rain or crazy wind! Enjoy this greenhouse inspired engagement session!

My best tips for creating the best timeline for your wedding day.

1. When is sunset? When I made my timeline for my wedding day the first thing I wanted to know was when was sunset and I worked backward from there! I KNEW sunset photos were SUPER important to me and being on the beach it was going to be the best time when the sun was low enough that it wasn’t blinding us from reflecting off the ocean.  My go-to website to find out when the sunset time is for any day is this site: https://www.timeanddate.com/sun/usa/columbus

2. First Look? Are you doing a first look?  This is the next question to ask because this determines how early you need to start the wedding day if you are joining in on the cocktail hour and the best time for the ceremony.  A first look not only gives you two a chance to have a special quiet moment before the ceremony but we can also knock out all the wedding party formals as well! Our couples who do a First Look have about 30% more pictures than couples who do not do a first look. We have more chances to get photos as well in case there is rain in the forecast.

3. Plan cushion time.  A lot of our weddings run about 10-15 minutes late even with cushion time planned in… so if there was NO cushion time planned into the timeline than ceremonies would easily start 30 minutes past their time or picture time would just vanish. We learned early on that planning an extra 5-10 minutes here and there during the day makes sure that we get back on schedule from hair/makeup/travel/long speeches/etc.

4. Account for Travel time:  This is super important if you are having your ceremony in a separate location from where you are having your reception and where you are getting ready.  If google maps say it only takes 5 minutes to get from A to B – plan 10 minutes!  Why? Because you need time to gather your bags, dress, etc, and figure out who is going in what car – maybe waiting for an elevator? There are so many extra little things that can really eat up time you wouldn’t normally think about – so I always add an extra 5 minutes to travel to.

5. If you are not doing a first look  – make sure to plan for at least separate bridal party formals prior to the ceremony.  After the ceremony, we will have family formals first, pictures of the entire wedding party, and pictures of just you two together.

We help all of our couples plan their timeline for the day.  We have several examples we send over to our couples to give them ideas for their wedding day and always come up with a great game plan for the wedding day.  We try to keep everything perfectly on time during the wedding day because we know it is important to walk down the aisle at exactly the time you want.  We also go with the flow of the day and rearrange anything as needed if hiccups come up (hello thunderstorm!).

Gold and Ivory Classic Wedding at Brookside Golf and Country Club

Kristina and Jason planned a gorgeous Gold and Ivory classic wedding at Brookside Golf and Country Club.  We photograph weddings at Brookside Golf and Country Club at least once a year, and it is always one of our favorite wedding venues to photograph.  We have been photographing weddings there for years and LOVE every single one of them.  Kristina and Jason’s wedding was none other than perfect.  We had some rain on the wedding day, but that means good luck right? Luckily, Brookside has some great overhangs that provide shelter from the rain and it did stop long enough for us to go out for some portraits.

Kristina and Jason moved their ceremony inside the wedding venue because of the rain.  All of their loved ones sat close by watching them exchange vows and their first kiss as husband and wife.  After the ceremony, we snuck back outside to grab some extra photos since it finally stopped raining.  I am so happy we were able to get back outside and enjoy the grounds. I know a lot of our couples get married at Brookside because of the gorgeous golf course grounds, the willows at the pond and the natural light reception room, and, of course, the country club atmosphere.

Elegant Vineyard Wedding at Gervasi Vineyard

Gervasi Vineyard Winery Wedding Canton, Ohio

Katie and Bryan’s elegant wedding at Gervasi Vineyard was so beautiful.  It was our first wedding back from having Lily, and it was such an AWESOME wedding to kick off our fall season. It was the perfect day with the weather, and everything was so beautiful and elegant.  We started the day at the villas at Gervasi Vineyard.  The villa had the best Tuscan feel, which was perfect since Katie and Bryan love everything that is Italian.  The entire estate has a very Tuscan and Italian feel to the buildings.  Their wedding day was full of romance, elegance, and bits of European Italian flair.

The ceremony was in a beautiful church that was her home church of Christ The Servant Parish at Our Lady of Peace Church.  Katie’s uncle officiated for them, which is so beautiful and thoughtful to have a family member take on that role.  A lot of our couples do that.  They have one of their family members or a close friend officiant.  I find that it really helps to bring extra meaning to the ceremony since there is a close connection to that person who is officiating.

Once the ceremony was over, we headed over to Gervasi Vineyards to do more portraits of Katie and Bryan and the entire wedding party. The vineyards provided a gorgeous backdrop for their pictures.  They have this beautiful stone archway that had THE BEST light ever, and we rocked a bunch of their portraits just at that one location.  When you find gorgeous light, it is always best to stay in that spot and rock the heck out of it because the light is so amazing.

The reception at Gervasi Vineyards was in their open-air reception area.  I was blown away by how much of a European influence the building had.  The open-air arches and doorways with their sweeping fabrics helped to bring that European feel to the wedding.  If Scott and I were getting married again, I would pull for this location because of how open it was.  The breeze would blow through the reception area, providing a casual yet classy evening reception.

The day was 100% magical and we are so honored that Katie and Bryan selected us to be their photographers! Thank you so much!
