CCAD Fashion Show 2013!

Last Friday I attended the annual CCAD Fashion Show thanks to Easton Town Center, where seniors showcased their full fashion line that they've been working on for the year.

(Spotted Below: Easton's Marketing Manager & Columbus Socialite of the Week Bethany B. and myself blogging of course, at the show!)

Last year was my first time attending and let me tell you, this has got to be the the best event and fashion show Columbus puts on. A VIP reception was held prior to the fashion show and a dance party concluded the evening. Check out some of these great looks that the talented designers of CCAD created.

Hundreds of people attended including the CEO of Express Michael Weiss and his wife Arlenne, Mayor Michael B. Coleman and many more Columbusites. The event was hosted by 10TV's Kristyn Hartman.

The event concluded with Easton giving out a scholarship to Katherine Hire!

In Christy's Shoes - May 22nd!

The 5th annual In Christy's Shoes event is set to take place next Wednesday, May 22nd at St. Charles from 6-9 p.m.

In Christy's Shoes began in 2009 as an annual fundraiser in memory of Christy Levy Peters. Christy lost her battle with terminal brain cancer at the age of 34. Her twin sister Katrina founded this event and wanted her sister's memory to live on. Read my post from last year HERE.

This year's event will feature special speakers, a silent auction and one amazing fashion shoe designer with her collection showcased in a runway show, which yours truly has been asked to walk the catwalk for a cause!

Hors d'oeuvres will be provided by top Columbus restaurants and a signature cocktail will be served called Christy's Electric Lemonade!

Last year over 500 people attended and raised over $60,000 to benefit Dress for Success Columbus and the Zusman Hospice at Wexner Heritage Village.

Chipotle's New Patron Margarita & Local Matters Day Tomorrow!

In an effort to stay true to their “food with integrity” motto, Chipotle recently partnered with Patron and introduced a new margarita to the menu*.

Just in time for Cinco de Mayo earlier this month, the new margarita debuted on April 29th.

I was invited to a tasting later that week to watch a demonstration of how the delicious, and all natural, beverage is created.

The concept is simple and familiar. Fresh juices are squeezed throughout the day at the restaurant, just as the rest of Chipotle’s delicious food is prepared fresh throughout the day.

When you order a margarita, you get to watch while these fresh juices, Patron Tequila and agave nectar are tossed together over ice and served to you in the plastic cup in which it was mixed. Fresh, natural, and (as the website says) “so good you’ll forget you’re drinking from a plastic cup,” this margarita is the perfect complement to Chipotle’s menu. (www.chipotle.com)

While I was at the tasting, I got to speak with company representative, Katie Wilkinson, about how Chipotle is helping to make the world a better place even beyond creating and serving “food with integrity.”

Central Ohio Chipotles partner with local non-profit “Local Matters” (local-matters.org) which works “to transform the food system to be more secure, just, prosperous and delicious.”

Tomorrow, Tuesday, May 14, 2013, participating Central Ohio Chipotles will donate 50% of qualifying dinner sales (4PM-8PM) to Local Matters. The event is part of an ongoing partnership between Chipotle and Local Matters to educate the region about the importance of healthful eating, as well as the benefits of sustainable, local foods.

C Wonder is Coming to Easton Next Month!

C Wonder. A brand offering clothing, accessories and home decor in beautiful colors and patterns "that transport women into a world of luxury and surprises."

Speaking of being surprised, I was blown away by my goody bag filled with C Wonder's "wonders" yesterday when I attended a luncheon for the "Founders Club" at Brio Tuscan Grille.

Around 20 women from the community were invited to hear from two representatives of C Wonder about the store and brand, the offerings and to spread the word on this amazing new brand coming to our city!

We were treated to an amazing three-course meal at Brio and were handed our goodies on the way out. What a great lunch it was!

My 1st Experience at City Year's Gala!

Last Thursday was City Year Columbus' Red Jacket Ball and what a great event!

Over hundreds of people gathered at LimitedBrands, honoring Darla King, supporting the hard work of the corp members and raising money to help kids stay on track for graduation.

I haven't heard the grand total on how much was raised, but with sponsors, ticket sales, a silent auction and raffle tickets, I'm sure it was a pretty number that will benefit the lives of our local children and teens!

Supporting the Homeless Families Foundation this Thursday!

The Homeless Families Foundation's (HFF) Spring Benefit is this Thursday and I'm excited to attend this year as a guest of the executive director!

Here's a little blast from the past...when I was working at a fabulous PR firm (Hinson Ltd), we use to coordinate this event so it will be nice to attend and see familiar faces, as this year's Spring Benefit is back in New Albany.

Not only that, but the event will be in the home of the owners of Bungalow Home, which was featured in the September 2012 edition of Capital Style.

From 6:30-8:30 p.m., the event will include hors d'oeuvres, cocktails, raffle prizes and a presentation about the homeless and at risk children and families served by HFF.

Beauty for the Earth & a Haircut for Me!

Yesterday at both locations of Nurtur the Salon, Beauty for the Earth was taking place and raising money for the Sierra Club of Central Ohio!

Both locations were offering haircuts, facials, makeovers, color gloss and shampoo for a $20 donation!

They were also having a bake sale too! Sweets, me... Yes please!

I decided my hair was way overdue for a trim (I think it has/had more split ends than Cousin It!!), so I took advantage of getting a haircut for a cause to support Earth Day at the Upper Arlington location!!

Before the cut, I was pleasantly surprised with an amazing relaxation session in a separate room which included a scalp and shoulder massage, then shampoo/conditioning treatment (while laying down!!) and while the conditioner was soaking in, I was treated to a nice hand massage! Talk about relaxing and amazing!

Red Carpet Movie Premiere Party this Friday!

This Friday I will be attending the premiere of a CAMP, (a movie based on true stories from Royal Family KIDS Camp) at the Arena Grand that benefits an organization right here in our backyard.

Here's the 411 on the movie (taken from the website - www.thecampmovie.com):

Eli's life is nightmare. His mother is a drug addict who neglects his care, and his transient father floats in and out of his life. Eli is filled with rage from the physical abuse he has received from his father but he longs for his love and approval. On his 10th birthday Eli is taken to the hospital by police who respond to a domestic disturbance call. Eli is removed from his home and is placed in Locustwood, a facility little better than a youth prison. In this environment Eli spirals downward, becoming an angry and scared creature.

Meanwhile, to impress a potential new client, investment advisor Ken Matthews signs up to be a camp counselor and gets paired with Eli. When the kids arrive at camp, the chaos begins. Ken and Eli bunk in a cabin with counselor Samuel, back from his second tour of duty in the army, and Redford, a kid who thinks he is an alien. Determined to hate camp, Eli is way more than Ken can handle.

Over the course of camp, Ken’s heart is broken as he learns about Eli's dark past. Eli slowly opens up to Ken as he starts to love Eli unconditionally. Eli begins to have hope.

An unauthorized visit from Eli’s father to camp sends everything spiraling out of control. Now Ken must decide what he is willing to sacrifice so Eli will understand the meaning of unconditional love.

St. Patrick's Day in Style!

St. Patrick's Day is Sunday, but most of you will be celebrating on Saturday night I'm sure, so do you have your green ready to go?

I don't know about you, but I'm over the "let's wear green like we're in elementary school" look. So I've chosen a few looks that I'll be sporting out and about in Columbus this weekend that I feel will bring me the luck of the Irish!

I just got my nails painted for a spring/"non-nonchalant" St. Patty's Day celebration with a little mint green action and a little of what I love...sparkle.

Miss C.S. – Tell us a little more about your involvement with City Year Columbus and how long you’ve been involved with the organization:

JB: I joined City Year's Board this past summer. Our company (Big Lots) is a major donor. Their outcomes are outstanding, and they are leaders in the field of education. I'm co-chairing their annual fundraiser -Red Jacket Ball- on April 25. I'll host my own fundraiser for City Year in early April.

Miss C.S. – What can people expect at the Red Jacket Ball event:

JB: To be impressed. Passionate Corps members are central to the event. You'll hear real stories about investing in children's lives and the difference City Year makes in Columbus Public Schools. Oh, and plenty of opportunities to make a donation.

Miss C.S. – What are you most looking forward to at the event:

JB: Talking with the Corps members. They're remarkable young people who aren't just "our future," they're our today, and they're affecting real change.

Miss C.S. – How can others get involved with either the Red Jacket Ball or City Year Columbus:

JB: Check out www.cityyear.org and learn about our outcomes. You'll be impressed, but we want you to be involved. Shoot us an e-mail, pick up the phone, buy a ticket to Red Jacket Ball -- come join us! There are plenty of opportunities, and you don't have to be an expert to be involved.

Miss C.S. – What is one thing people may not know about you:

JB: I spent time in the Guatemala and Jamaica conducting academic research in my undergrad.

JB: Be the frontman for a band on a world tour.

Last Thursday I was on Fox28 and was lucky to be able to wear fashions from Ladybird boutique in the Short North during the segment. Thanks again Allison (the owner) for letting me "rent them" for the segment!

2nd Annual AIDS Walk Bar Crawl

Support the annual Dr. Robert J. Fass Memorial AIDS Walk Central Ohio by attending an afternoon of drinking for a cause!

The CYP Club Raises $50,000 to Local Charities!

Last weekend, the CYP Club held its annual charity fashion show and gala, A Date 2 Remember, at the LC Pavilion where over 1,100 young professionals attended and were dressed to the nines.

The 6th annual event raised over $50,000 to benefit City Year Columbus and the United Way of Central Ohio.

Young professionals enjoyed food samplings from some of the tastiest restaurants in town including Jeni's Ice Cream, Lexi's on Third, Carraba's and many more! The event has grown so much in the past six years that the party was extended to the A&R Bar next door with more drinks and desserts!

Framester was also a huge hit where a photographer was not needed for the step and repeat photo op area.

Two sets of tickets were sold - VIP and Regular Admission. VIP guests were treated to a private bar and seating on the second level of the LC Pavilion.

The ever-so-popular live date auction and experience packages brought in more than $21,000 alone.

“Over the course of its history, A Date 2 Remember has now raised more than $200,000 for Columbus area non-profit organizations,” CYP CLUB president Derek Grosso said.

The CYP Club will present checks to both charity beneficiaries in the coming weeks.
