Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of god our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 1 Timothy 2:1-5

Dear local and global friends of Come Rest,

On Nov. 30^th at 345 am the Lord woke me up and spoke these words to my heart, “You be wholehearted and I will make you pure-hearted.” He wants me, and each of you, to come constantly before Him with everything that is on our hearts—the good, the bad, the beautiful, and the ugly. Give Him the gift of your whole self in the present moment and the Holy Spirit will renew you. One way to do this is to practice His priority of prayer for others every day.
On Nov. 23^rd around 8 am I heard the Lord say, “Enter My rest, get with Me in My intercession.”
On Nov. 13^th the Holy Spirit took me up into a life-changing experience of prayer intercession during the Paris attack by radical Islamic terrorists. He led me to see many things while calling me to declare His scriptures by His Spirit in His name. Jesus is our Great High Priest ever making intercession for the world and wants to do it through you when you pray scripture out while resting under His Blood covering and leaning upon His guiding power through the Holy Spirit. Jesus is calling all true believers to come up higher into constant victory in Him. Real victory over terror and the evil one will not come from the White House, but from Heaven.

THERFORE, Kim and I ask each one of you to join us in giving Jesus a Christmas present that will “keep on giving”. Make whatever changes in your daily life so you can give Him a minimum of 1 hour a day to rest and pray in Him for others as He leads. Let us know you are doing this 7 we will pray for you specifically. Call us if you want specific counsel.

Chapter 25 in our book Real Fruit spells out in detail how to spend 1 hour alone with the Lord(20 minutes in silence, 20 minutes in scripture, 20 minutes in Spirit-led prayer for others.
Or you can simply set aside one hour to follow the order of 1 Timothy 2:1…

Supplication—Fervent trusting requests for God’s supply for people on your prayer list.

Prayers—Psalms and honest childlike conversations with the Lord.

Intercessions—Let Holy Spirit bring His prayer list to you! Ask Him to bring people & scriptures to mind for you to

pray; also experiment with praying aloud in the Spirit as He brings groans, sighs, and tongues too deep for words. When I don’t know what to pray for someone, I pray in tongues with their face in my mind; and also ask Him to give them His life & life abundant according to John 10:10!

Giving thanks—Thank Him for their life, His cross, His love, His will for their life.

You, your family, your church, your city, your nation, your enemies ALL need YOU to come up into deeper, more powerful prayer for them. Give Jesus, give all men, the best Christmas present you will ever give. Start by giving Him ONE ADDITIONAL HOUR A DAY RIGHT NOW! YOU CAN DO THIS! The Lord will help you. Come Rest will assist you.

Dear Friends of Come Rest,

· Feeling especially grateful to be alive in Christ today. No doubt because I’ve been memorizing Philippians 4:4-13 the last few days and opening my conversation with the Lord each morning with Psalm 63. His Spirit picks me up each time I pick up His Word and put it in my heart. I am so grateful for how patient and merciful He is with me when I don’t seek His face and don’t listen for His voice. I am so grateful for how patient and merciful I am with others when I do seek His face and do listen for His voice. What a concept!

· I am so grateful for all of you who pray for us and give financially to the Lord for our mission. We can’t do it without His help through His people. Many more of His people and His shepherds are coming to us weary, thirsty, hungry for Him. Praise God!

Immediate Intimacy with the Lord

We invite you to join us the rest of September and draw close to the Lord in the sixth chapter of Matthew. Read it slowly daily and ask the Lord how He wants you to immediately adjust your daily walk with Him accordingly.

· He is calling us to “secret” prayer, fasting, and charity. “Secret” means face-to-face, self-sacrificial, intimate walking with Him--by His Spirit, not our flesh.

· He is calling us to pray the Lord’s Prayer daily, very slowly. Take time to pray one phrase and pause. Let the Holy Spirit prompt you to prayer conversation with the Lord according to each phrase. Pray like He teaches and watch what happens.

· He is calling us to treasure only Him in our hearts.

· He is calling us to keep our eyes only on His Face.

· He is calling us to serve only Him as our loving Master.

· He is calling us away from corrosive worry into continual worship.

· He is waiting to help us. He will do the heavy lifting, our small part is to surrender.

Come to Him by surrendering your burdens.

Take His Yoke by surrendering control.

Learn from Him by surrendering your undivided attention.

He knows what you need. Rest upon Him.

Kim and I love you all very much. We give thanks that at some point in the past we have had the privilege to encourage you in your personal walk with Jesus. We look forward to the next time.

Until then, come rest in His love and see what He has for you in Matthew chapter 6. He is anxious to relieve your anxiety so He can bring His non-anxious Presence into others’ lives through you.

We Must

Dear friends of Come Rest,

Join me in making serious, joyful time to rest and feed in the green pastures of God’s Word. He will lead you beside refreshing still waters. Prayerfully meditating on scripture is like standing beside Jesus and looking with Him into a quiet pond. You will see His reflection and who you are destined to be in His love. Let summer 2015 truly be a time of reflection, repentance, and revival…in your Shepherd.

· The Lord’s return draws near. We must draw nearer to Him and let Him shepherd us like never before.

· Please continue a Psalm 64 “prayer shield” over yourselves and the Body of Christ.

· Please continue living worry free according to Matthew 6:25ff.

· Please continue meditating upon Psalm 23(one verse per week) & James 4!

· Please share the following with your friends, family, churches, and ministries:

WE MUST

The Supreme Court has once again openly rebelled against God’s Word. There will be consequences.

We must make sure the greatest consequence is unprecedented repentance, rest, and fruit in the Body of Christ!

We must cast our cares upon Him.

We must come up into His purity, clarity, unity, and charity.

We must repent for our own sin and request merciful awakening for our nation, churches, families, friends, and enemies.

We must be of good report like Caleb. There are indeed giants and fortified cities, but we are well able to come up and take the land!

We must let Jesus reign in us.

We must let the Holy Spirit rein us in.

We must ask the Holy Spirit to rain down on us.

We must enjoy the Lord and trust in Him!

We must return to Jesus as our first love before He returns the last time for His Bride.

Surely He is using what the devil meant for evil to prompt His people into purifying fire and draw the lost into His arms of love.

Dear friends of Come Rest,

The Lord’s return draws near. We must draw nearer to Him and let Him shepherd us like never before. Our ministry has been on alert praying Psalm 64 and living Matthew 6:25-34 throughout June. We were awaiting further instructions on June 30^th. We believe we have heard the Lord speak and confirm the following for Come Rest Ministries through the end of August. Please consider living this and sharing this with your families, your friends, your churches. We are to…

1. Continue praying a Psalm 64 “prayer shield” over the priesthood of all believers. Now more than ever.

2. Continue living Matthew 6:25-34. I have memorized it and am now speaking His words over myself and others in prayer. Please try it.

3. Begin meditating upon Psalm 23. Go over it “line by line.” We suggest you make one verse your focus per week. Memorize it. Pray it. The Lord is waiting to reveal Himself and His plans as we do this. Ask for divine appointments with family and friends to witness to them concerning your Psalm 23 verse of the week and pray for them according to the verse as He leads.

4. Begin meditating upon James 4 and doing what He says there! Draw closer to Him and He will draw closer to you.

The Supreme Court of the US has once again made a decision in open rebellion against God’s Word. There will be consequences. Let’s make sure that the greatest consequence is unprecedented repentance, rest, and fruitfulness in the Body of Christ! Increase Prayer Shield and Decrease Worry

Dear friends of Come Rest,

· The world may see the shootings in Charleston as racial hate, but we believe it is also a deeper attack from the enemy upon the Body of Christ to divide and intimidate deeply committed believers, leaders, and prayer warriors.

· Please continue to spread the Psalm 64 “prayer shield” by praying Psalm 64 aloud daily over all true followers of Jesus in your region and inviting other believers in your sphere of influence to do the same.

· We believe the Holy Spirit is telling us to pray Psalm 64 over the Body of Christ through June 30 and await directions.

· Check in on spiritual leaders, spouses, and families—as well as the prayer warriors in your churches and ministries. Prayer warriors need prayer covering too! Surprise them with kindness and generosity.

· Meditate upon and consider memorizing Psalm 64 and declaring it aloud in prayer over your family.

· Ask for divine appointments to pray for, and encourage people, with Psalm 64!

· Also, we believe the Holy Spirit is reminding us to live Matthew 6:25-34 & Matthew 11:28-30 even as we keep praying Psalm 64. It can be intense when spiritual warfare continues. We need to take the Lord so seriously that we do not take ourselves too seriously! In Matthew 6,Jesus reminds us to not worry about what will happen to us; to walk with Him in considering the birds and flowers; to focus on His kingdom and His righteousness. If we focus on Jesus and His business, He will take care of ours! The way to fight the devil is to not fight with the devil but to walk with Jesus. In Matthew 11, Jesus invities us to Come to Him. Take His Yoke. Learn from Him. This means to daily surrender your burdens, surrender control, and surrender your undivided attention to Jesus.

· I am now meditating upon Matthew 6:25-34, beginning to memorize it—and most importantly—taking a deep breath and actually doing it. The Lord is helping gain His peaceful perspective and He will do that for you as well.

So lighten up and brighten up even as you lift up prayers in spiritual warfare! Jesus reigns, lives in you, and is interceding in prayer for you! When you walk with Him you can enjoy life with Him in this world even while you prepare to live in the next.

Surrender, Offer, Invite

Dear friends of Come Rest,

· Resting upon the Lord means following His lead under His guiding and protective Arm. Sometimes He wants us to sit still with Him. Sometimes He wants us to walk with Him. Sometimes He wants us to run. Sometimes He wants us to fight in battle alongside Him. Right now, in Come Rest Ministries, He wants us to run into battle with Him. We defeat the enemy by surrendering to Christ. It seems the Lord is saying “Surrender, Offer, and Invite!” He wants us to surrender personally to Him like never before. He wants us to offer Come Rest Ministries Gatherings, Awakenings, Retreats, House meetings, and Covenant groups to churches and cities like never before. He wants us to invite people to Come Rest gatherings like never before.

1. Last week, at our new Fountain Friday outreach at Rehoboth, His joyous presence was overwhelming as one-third of all the people in the house had never been there before—yet we were all of one heart and mind in Him.

2. Last Friday morning, I sat down with Pastor John Hankins to offer our new Rehoboth Wellsprings Gathering as a way we could serve CR Sanctuary Church. John immediately new from the Spirit he must invite us this weekend to come help them celebrate their church anniversary. Two years ago, the Lord called his congregation to step out in faith to buy an old public school building for the purpose of comprehensive discipleship of broken people hungry for new life and ministry in Christ. This includes developing dormitories and class rooms for broken people who truly want to be restored from hellish existence in prison, addictions, and other challenges and to grow and minister in the power of Heaven. My own heart is encouraged to be more bold as I write to you about their church and mission. And now the Holy Spirit has told them to let us come to help them come up and go deeper in His love, His rest, and His fruitfulness! What a privilege! The Lord has led us to develop our new 3 Day Gathering model since last November and now He is bringing it into churches. John asked us if we could amend our model into a Saturday/Sunday approach for them so we are very excited to learn from the Lord and adapt. We see a beautiful fusion of what the Lord is doing in both ministries happening this weekend! Please pray for us. If you are local, please come and invite your friends—both saved and not-yet-saved. Tell them they can come and go as needed.

3. Last night, Pastor Caleb Plumb of Encounter Christian Church in Cedar Rapids invited us to come provide our 3 hour Awakening of Love worship gathering the third Friday night of each month this summer! Those dates (June 19, July 17, August 21) will be a whole new opportunity of renewal and depth for that precious congregation as well as our whole region. Please pray and spread the word.

4. Lest we forget, our monthly 3 hour Awakening of Love evening worship time at River of Life takes place this Friday night June 5th, precedent to the 2 Day Gathering. Three of our wonderful worship leaders, Miriam Bandfield, Lori Owens, and Deb Polk will each lead out for an hour. Wow, what a time it will be with the Lord!

5. If you are not local please ask the Lord how He is calling you to open doors in your church or city for Come Rest Ministries. Contact us and we will pray and discern with you. The Lord may be calling you to help something happen in your church. On the other hand, the Lord may be calling you to invite some believers from a variety of churches to your home to meet us so we can plant some seeds for future events. Kim and I have been given such a growing, committed team of co-laborers here in Cedar Rapids that we can now anticipate more traveling ministry to your cities while they, at times, carry the events here locally.

· We believe the Lord has placed Psalm 64 on our hearts as a prayer/spiritual warfare focus through the month of June. We believe the Lord is alerting us to the enemy’s assault on pastors and their families.

· We call all global and local friends of Come Rest to pray according to Psalm 64 specifically for the pastors and leaders of the various churches and ministries in which you all participate.

*Kim and I have personally stepped out in faith to buy a new, more reliable vehicle. We believe the Lord is preparing us for more travel around the U.S. to spread Come Rest ministry. We are seeking the Lord as to where He wants us to travel and minister this summer, fall, and winter. Seattle? Columbus? Atlanta? St. Louis? Phoenix? Marshalltown? Algona? Des Moines? Rejoice and Be Glad

Oh that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When God brings back the captivity of His people, Let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad. Psalm 53:6 NKJV

Dear friends,

We’ve had such action-packed, fruitful weeks with the NW Iowa mission, our 3 Day Gathering, and ongoing ministry here at Rehoboth. So many friends of Come Rest are stepping forward into their callings! What a joy to watch it all unfold! This past week was time for Kim and I to catch our breath, celebrate her birthday, help family members and Come Rest friends with various needs, and try to get back into our personal rhythms of prayer, scripture, Kim’s art, and my writing. We give thanks for your participation, prayer, and financial support for Come Rest!

Have you ever gone through your day doing the same things in the same surroundings with the same people and suddenly noticed something in the persons or surroundings you had not seen before? Scripture is like that; it is alive. You can read and reread a passage many times over many years, yet there is always something more. The Lord is always ready to reveal Himself to us any moment we give Him our undivided attention. So it was last week as I read again the words “Let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad.” Suddenly from within the Holy Spirit brought new insight and encouragement to my mind. You see, Jacob and Israel are two names for the same person. Yet the verse is not mere repetition; the Holy Spirit never wastes words. Jacob was a grasper from the moment he was born, and not necessarily the most loveable guy always. His life story up to the time of receiving the name Israel could be summed up by the phrase “take or be taken”. He took advantage of his brother Esau’s hunger and stupidity in acquiring his first born birthright with a bowl of soup and he deceived his aged father Isaac into giving his blessing meant for Esau. He fell in love with Rachel, but her father duped him into marrying her sister Leah first and getting seven more years labor from Jacob in exchange for Rachel’s hand. As I get older, I am more and more grateful whenever I see the name “God of Jacob”. It means the Lord is patient and merciful with you, me, and the whole world in our Jacobness. It means Christ died for us while we were yet sinners. Yes, at all times, and right now as you read this, no matter what is happening to you—you can rejoice in the Cross and rest in His blessed assurance you are saved from hell eternally, sin’s grip in this present moment, and the Helper Holy Spirit is in you! Let Jacob, you, me rejoice in our salvation!

What’s more, let Israel be glad. When Jacob arrived at the river Jabbok with his wives and children in tow, he was filled with dread at the prospect of facing the brother he had wronged all those years ago. In an anxious night Jacob wrestled with an angel of God and encountered God face to face. True to form Jacob grasped and asked for a blessing and received a limp and a new name. “Israel” means one who embraces and wrestles with God. Jacob named the place Peniel as the place where he embraced the face of God. In this intimate encounter, God mercifully prepared Jacob/Israel for more mercy and reconciliation with Esau. Through mercy God relieved Jacob’s fears and restored his relationships. Through the prophet Isaiah in chapters 42 & 49, hundreds of years later, to Jacob’s descendants in exile the Lord revealed Israel’s true calling—to be a light to the Gentiles. Because of Jesus’ blood over your life as a Gentile, you can be glad you too are called to be His light to the nations. So right now, as you read this—because of Jesus and no matter what is happening—rejoice that you are saved and be glad that you are called. Your life has a heavenly destination. Your life has an earthly purpose—to intimately embrace Jesus and lovingly witness for Him with grace and truth. He knows, feels, and understands your pain, fear, and grasping weakness. He loves you anyway Jacob. Rejoice. Be glad He picked you, even you. Oh how He loves you. Oh what a difference you can make to others around you—embracing Him and inviting them to do the same.

Rejoice that He died for you. Be glad you get to live for Him.

Making Room Enough

Dear friends of Come Rest,

In Genesis 26, Isaac found a wellspring in the midst of famine. He named it “Rehoboth” which means “room enough”. He declared there was room enough for God’s people to thrive at that wellspring. They had rest from the argument and opposition they had faced at previous wellsprings.

Room enough to rest and thrive in Jesus. Ponder that in your own life. Are you making time and space for to rest and thrive in Jesus’ love so the Holy Spirit can grow you fruitful? Are you making time and space in your life to help others rest and thrive in Jesus’ love?

With everything that is going on in the world right now, I believe the Lord is telling me to stay in Him and stay on message—inviting the earth to come rest and thrive in His love and teaching people how to do that.

We are each given 24 hrs/day, 168 hrs/wk…

So…I am spending real energy adjusting my life along the following priorities through April 30 :

1. Making room enough for quiet/scripture/prayer with Jesus.(1hour morning & 1 hour evening.)

2. Making room enough for resting/recreating with Jesus. (Sabbath weekly, for us--preferably Saturdays)

3. Making room enough for prayer as a couple. (30 minutes minimum )

4. Making room enough for play as a couple. (Daily stroll/fun activity and weekly date night)

5. Making room enough to enjoy & help family. (Specific emphasis lately in helping our daughter Emily,

her husband David, & grandson Micah prepare for the arrival of our new grandson any day now!)

6. Making room enough for physical health. (Daily walk/stretching/cardio; small meals & healthy snacks)

7. Making room enough for my job of writing to help people rest in Jesus’ love. (25 hours each week)

8. Making room enough for my job of equipping people to rest in Jesus’ love. (25 hours each week)

9. Making room enough for a good night’s sleep by going to bed by 10pm & rising by 6am.

I believe the Lord spoke to my heart this week and said, “Less screen time and more face time.” He wants His people to spend MUCH LESS time looking into a screen(TV, Smartphone, Tablet, Laptop) and MUCH MORE time looking into His face and the faces of people who need His love through us.

So…please pray for me that I rest upon the Lord and make these 9 adjustments through April 30.

That the Ungodly Might See

It is not so with the ungodly. They are like chaff which is driven away by the wind. Therefore, they will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. The Lord knows the way of the righteous; but the way of the ungodly will perish.

Psalm 1:4-6 NKJV

For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. Romans 5:6 NASB

After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying, “Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this.” Revelation 4:1 NKJV

Dear friends of Come Rest,

I have continued this week meditating upon Psalm 1 by memorizing it completely and repeating it aloud several times a day. I stay more regularly before the Lord face-to-face in the secret place as I do this. The Lord has been so good to me. The less time I spend in media and the more time I spend in scripture and prayer—the more He shows me about myself, my loved ones, this ministry, the body of Christ, and the world. I have a lighter heart and brighter vision in the midst of heavier snow and darker skies. Join me.

In praying with some pastors this week, I saw we were like seven tall trees growing up through low hanging cloud cover. The seven of us were lifted up above the clouds into the glaring sunlight and given a joyfully clear view. The sun was warm and bright, representing His smiling countenance of grace because of the blood of Jesus covering our lives. I felt great peace as I looked to the horizon even as I saw storms coming. I saw some of the storms were coming from God for His purposes. Just as snow, ice, rain, thunder, lightning, and wind nourish and renew the earth—the storms that God brings into our lives are for our good to make us more like Jesus. Then I saw a few other storms were coming from Satan, schemes to discourage and deceive us. God is high and watchful over those attacks and only allows them for us in His purpose to train us “up”. Great peace and discernment awaits us in the secret place of face to face intimacy with the Lord. I felt the Lord was saying “As you come up in Me, I will help you clearly see the difference between My storms and the storms of the enemy. I will help you stand and delight in every good thing I bring. I will help you stand and defeat every evil thing the enemy brings. When My people do not come up in Me, all storms look the same to the flesh and you will respond as the ungodly do—afraid, angry, confused, self-striving. This is not necessary. All that I have is yours. Come up with Me in the secret place. I will show you what I am doing, tell you what to do, and help you do it.”

Last week in Psalm 1:1-3 we saw staying up in the secret place with Him begins by emptying your life of ungodly counsel, sin, and scorn. You then delight in the Lord and His word filling your life with godly counsel, company, worship, and witness. We then grow like deeply rooted trees planted by inexhaustible streams of water. We then prosper in bearing His fruit no matter what comes.

Verse 4 says this is not so for the ungodly. They are like chaff, an empty hull, easily blown away by wind and storms. There is no life-producing grain in them. They are ungodly because God does not live in them. Yes, God made Adam and Eve in His image. But ever since they rebelled, every human is born ungodly, full of sin and death, empty of the One who can give us everlasting life. But Good News! That sinless, deathless One came and died for the sin of everyone! He took our sin nature, diseases, and death all upon Himself and was resurrected Victor over all of it! Then He went back to heaven and sent the Holy Spirit to spread that Good News, inviting repentance, and igniting eternal life in everyone who receives Jesus as Lord! Only as we are born again by the Spirit through faith in Christ, does Jesus come to dwell in our hearts. We are only righteous because He becomes our righteousness. We become a new creation because the Creator now lives in us. Because He lives in us, we will stand and be accepted at the last judgment. The ungodly will not.

Only after He saves us are we gathered by Him into the congregation of the righteous. That word “congregation” doesn’t mean a church membership roll. Many people who are active in churches are not yet saved. This is not bad, it is good! The fields are ripe for the harvest! It’s just that we who are saved must humble ourselves to become more discerning so the Spirit can help us powerfully speak the truth in love to ungodly churchgoers so they might be saved. The word “congregation” means “ the assembly” or “the appointed”. It can even mean “swarm.” I like that. Church is not about us attending service but Christ appointing us to serve. When Jesus saves us, the Father declares us righteous and the Holy Spirit assembles us to become adoring adopted children for the purpose of bearing the fruit of His righteousness. The roots deepen and fruit grows--if we let the Holy Spirit help us trust in Jesus, delight in Jesus, meditate in His word, and congregate in Spirit-led love, worship, and witness!

I see great things ahead for the Body of Christ, and for each of you in this coming year. The Holy Spirit is making a major move to help His people come up. What an adventurous year this will be. I keep hearing the refrain of a powerful praise song in my mind, “More love, more power, more of You in my life…”.

Be encouraged congregation of the righteous! Holy Spirit storms of truth, love, and power are coming to strengthen and purify you. Do not be offended by the Lord. Be defended. His ways are not our ways. Things are not always what they appear. Therefore, come up and see His reality in the peaceful sunlight of His face. He will show you how to grow deep and stand tall no matter what comes. Fear not and buckle up! The ungodly will be blown away by the winds that are coming. But He will lift us up to blow up the schemes of the enemy!

We are just beginning to discover how powerful is the person of the Holy Spirit. Gathering storms from Satan will not defeat the gathered swarm of the Lord. The adventure is just beginning. In fact, the Holy Spirit is just swarming up.

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf does not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper. Psalm 1: 1-3 NKJV

Dear local and global friends of Come Rest,

I memorized these verses this week. As with all true scripture meditation, I’ve been keeping my heart open to the Lord while repeating these verses aloud. This is one of the ways the Holy Spirit ushers us into the secret place of His rest, face to face with Jesus. The secret place, the “face-to-face” place, is where He touches us, teaches us, transforms us. It is the place in our hearts from where He releases His rivers of living waters, His supernatural power. The more you meet with Him and stay with Him in the secret place, the more He will purify your heart, the more His power will flow from you.

In my meditation upon Psalm 1, I see a picture of signposts at a “T” intersection. One points down the road to “Scornful”, the other points up the road toward “Fruitful”.

The road to “Scornful” begins with walking in the counsel of the ungodly--daily absorbing and adopting the thinking of people and media who twist, ignore, or attack God’s word. The counsel of the ungodly can also be listening to our own flesh, deceiving ourselves. The counsel of the ungodly leads us onto the path of sinners—we compromise on His truth, stumbling in our own sin, and carelessly follow the crowd. We soon find ourselves in the seat of the scornful—full of anxiety and anger, pointing our finger in seething resentment and constant criticism of others, ourselves, and God. It can happen to me, you, and anyone around you. One’s life can shift quickly from a wellspring of His Spirit to a cesspool of our sin. We who are created and saved by Jesus for fruitful companionship instead settle for fruitless compromise which is unwitting cooperation with Satan the accuser/deceiver. Ungodly thinking and ungodly company breed ungodly living. Jesus is ready to lead you and me up to “Fruitful”!

Notice in verse 1 the first step to “Fruitful” is to choose to “ walk not” in ungodly counsel. You say “no” with your heart, your mouth, and your feet. The first step in turning afresh toward the Lord and His way of life is turning away from Satan and his way of life. Choosing to not walk by the flesh means you are beginning to walk by His Spirit. Saying a big “NO” to any ungodly input prepares you for enjoying God’s input.

Next you delight in the law of the Lord—you make a lifestyle choice to rejoice! You thank Jesus daily for being the Way, the Truth, and the Life and for saving you from hell!

You are then moved to meditate day and night in His law—to wholeheartedly fill your life with His truth through daily scripture, prayer, praise, and keeping primary company with the fruitful even as you witness to the scornful at work or play. You seek only the good clean joy of Jesus’ presence, Jesus’ people, Jesus’ purpose. You seek Jesus’ permission for good, clean, fun in fruitful social and recreational pursuits out amongst the scornful.

You then become like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf does not wither—your roots go down ever deeper into the limitless source of the Holy Spirit who continually produces His powerful, loving fruit in all your days, your relationships, your endeavors.

Whatever the Lord leads you to do shall prosper—this is the bountiful life of real fruit He promises. I believe the Lord is alerting me to ways I am distracted from Him by this ungodly world. Kim and I are taking a clear, fresh look at saying “no” to any worldly influences or activities in our daily lives He does not want for us. Join us. Many may choose the road that ends in the seat of the scornful. He calls us to be in, but not of, the world. He leads His witnesses in His counsel, His path, His fruit, His seat of mercy!

Signposts. One points down. The other points up. Scorn the road to Scornful. Delight in the road up to Fruitful.

Finish Strong

I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom:Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.

Dear friends of Come Rest,

Some of you know I have rooted for the Green Bay Packers football team since 1965. If you are not a football fan, hang in there with me for a moment. This past Sunday afternoon the Packers dominated the defending champs Seattle Seahawks for 56 minutes of the 60 minute contest. Yet, the Packers collapsed the last four minutes and missed the victory which would have propelled them to the Super Bowl. Their season is over. It was heartbreaking for many Packer fans. The Packers did not finish strong. As a younger fan, I may have been shocked and depressed. As an older fan, I’m was simply shocked.

I felt the Lord immediately remind me what’s most important. He wants us to finish, not be “fan-ish”! The word “fan” is short for “fanatic.” The Lord isn’t looking for fickle fanatics, but faithful followers. He isn’t about attracting fair weather fans, but adopting fruitful children. He isn’t about drawing intense spectators, but developing invested sons and daughters. He wants us to finish strong in His Spirit’s power, not weak in our will power. I believe with all my heart that 2 Timothy 4:1-8 is the Lord’s “now word” for you and me this week…and the rest of our lives.

I have been reading this week in 1 & 2 Kings and 1&2 Chronicles. Of course there were so many kings who blew it from the start, and some who began well but fell away quickly. But what is so heartbreaking is the kings of Israel and Judah who began well, prospered in the Lord for many years, but did not finish faithful to the Lord for different reasons:

Practicing idolatry, inviting evil. (Solomon in 1 Kings 11)
Relying upon man for national security & personal health (Asa in 2 Chronicles16)
Partnering with the ungodly, tolerating immorality. (Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles 20)
Fighting battles willfully ignoring the Lord.(Josiah in 2 Chronicles 35)

We need to seek His face in the light of His flaming heart every present moment of each precious day He gives us. We can’t do it on good intentions and will power. We can only do it through resting in His Spirit’s power through His word, prayer, and each other’s love and prayers.

Please join me in prayer right now, and invite others to join you by forwarding this email on to others…

“Come Holy Spirit. Father, we repent of worshipping anything but You, thereby inviting evil ; relying upon man for our security and health instead of You; partnering with ungodly people and tolerating any hint of immorality in our lives; and fighting battles willfully ignoring Your voice. Help us make the necessary changes You want us to make in our daily lives. Help us guard our lives completely from Satan and surrender our lives completely to You. We will enter Your Rest and bear Your Real Fruit in 2015 like never before. You will help us neither turn away or fade away. You will help us burn bright and finish strong--awaiting the return of our Lord Jesus according to 2 Timothy 4:1-8! In His name we pray, Amen!”

There are many hills, valleys, and hairpin curves ahead. Avoid a heartbreaking crash through heart “braking” surrender to Him. Stay on track. Let Him help you finish strong!

Face of Grace, Heart of Fire

Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face evermore! 1 Chronicles 16:11 NKJV

Dear local and global friends of Come Rest,

Last Friday many friends of Come Rest had an overwhelmingly powerful experience of the Lord’s presence at our first Awakening of Love worship gathering of 2015. As per last week’s email, we declared 2015 to be His Year of His Rest for His People. He is igniting more hunger for His presence in His people worldwide. His answer for intimidation by the enemy is intimate victorious rest with Him!

Later in the evening our worship leader Deb Polk asked my wife Kim to read Isaiah 32. Kim felt suddenly led by the Spirit to begin singing the scriptures as the Spirit gave her a new tune. As Kim kept singing, Deb, vocalist Joy Mees, and violinist Bryce Christiansen began harmonizing in the Spirit. I got on my face and many others came forward and a hushed sense of awe came upon us all. We had a sense that the great cloud of witnesses and angelic hosts were drawing close. It was very precious, very deep, very loving.

This Wednesday I had a powerful encounter with Him in which the Holy Spirit led me to cry aloud, “Jesus, the desire of my life is to seek Your face in the light of Your flaming heart.” With my eyes closed I saw His face lit up by flames coming out of His heart. Jesus’ face and Jesus fiery heart have long been two separate images through which He has drawn me close. Now the two images have been fused into one.

No matter how weak I am, He is strong in me to help me come up to Him and stay up in His face of grace, in His heart of love. I must seek His face evermore! I must spent much more time alone with Him in scripture, prayer, and praise-- and much less time with people. He wants me to give Him more time and space in my life so He can more thoroughly transform me. If I do this, then His concentrated Power will flow much more from me to people when I am with them. He wants me to spend more time writing in His presence. He wants to help more people come up into His presence through this next book.

He is waiting to show me things in the spiritual realm I have never seen before. He wants me to come up because He loves me. He wants me to come up so He can help other people through me—like never before. Please pray for me.

He is waiting for you, too. Because He loves you. Because He wants to touch people through you. Is the desire of your life to seek Jesus’ face in the light of His flaming heart? If so, let me know. I will pray for you. Ask Him to help you seek His face continually and you will be ignited by His flaming heart. Seek the Lord and His strength with me; seek His face ever…more!

2015: Rhetoric or Rest?

Thus says the Lord:

“Heaven is My throne,
And earth is My footstool.
Where is the house that you will build Me?
And where is the place of My rest?
²For all those things My hand has made,
And all those things exist,”
Says the Lord.
“But on this one will I look:
On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit,
And who trembles at My word.

Isaiah 66:1-2 NKJV

During Christmas, we saw that God gave chapter 9 to Isaiah to promise the future salvation of the world through a child who would be born as Emmanuel, God-with-us. God mercifully spoke this and Isaiah faithfully declared this even though restless, rebellious, idolatrous Israel was about to be carried off into ruinous exile. Then Lord gave the final chapter 66 to Isaiah with a pointed question and answer that forever has present application for each would-be believer in our restless, rebellious, idolatrous times.

You notice I said “pointed question”, not “rhetorical” question. A rhetorical question is a literary device to make a point, but not expecting an answer. In Isaiah 66 the Lord is making a particular point because He wants us to make something particular of our lives.

Right now, January 2015, the Lord is asking, “Where is the house, the resting place you will build Me?” He is expecting an answer—right now.

He wants you and I to build Him a house upon which His Holy Spirit Presence will rest. It will not be made of things—but of people. His house is the family of believers who have been truly saved by Jesus. His Resting Place is when His family truly honors, loves, trusts, and obeys Jesus.

His resting place is wherever people are living with Jesus and each other in three inseparable ways. They humble themselves—truly submitted before Him and each other; they are contrite—truly sorrowful and joyful in turning away from sin; they tremble at His Word--truly believing and behaving according to Scripture with the help of His powerful Holy Spirit as they witness to a lost world.

The Lord never wastes words. He is not asking these “where” questions for His health—but ours. He is not given us a bunch of rhetoric, He is offering bountiful rest. But He is looking for our answers, our action. He doesn’t want rhetoric from us any longer. I can’t do it for you. You can’t do it for me. He’s waiting to help us both. I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of not fully resting in His love. I’m tired of the body of Christ not being His resting place. I yearn for it. I burn for it. If I desire all this, as deficient as I am--Can you imagine how much He yearns and burns for us to fully and finally sell out to Him? That’s not a rhetorical question either.

A Declaration In Jesus for His House, His Rest, His People, His Harvest

I now declare my deficiency and His sufficiency! Join me.

In the name of Jesus, with the power of His precious blood, I declare 2015 The Year of His Rest.

Many will leave self-defeating sluggishness & enter His self-sacrificial victorious rest!

Many will resist fruitless intimidation and rest in fruitful intimacy with Him!

Many will kneel down before Him, & remain down before each other, as His way to come up into the Secret Place of His Face.

He will help many to build their lives into HIS RESTING PLACE!

The Holy Spirit will come rest upon the household of Jesus and many of the lost will come rest in Jesus’ saving arms!

So be it! Amen!

Dear friends of Come Rest,

Just a brief, but clear, word for you all to begin 2015. Believe with Kim and I that this will be the year of your complete victory over your fear and the enemy’s intimidation. No matter how messed up life seems, you will draw ever closer and come up even higher into His presence and plan for your life. Whatever has threatened you in the past will have no power over you. Jesus will help you stay face to face with Him like never before. You will be His bold witness speaking His truth with His love like never before.

Here is what I hear Him saying in my heart, “The Lion in you is greater than the lion out in the street. I am the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. No longer let anything intimidate you into sluggishness. Let My Spirit lead you into My victorious rest. The antidote for intimidation is intimacy with Me! All that I have is yours; you have nothing to prove; let Me help you do things My way!”

I commend these words to all of you as we begin 2015. Come rest in His love and bear His real fruit! Come up into His heart and do not settle for anything less than Him and His way of life; let Him teach you in 2015 to stay face to face with Him in the secret place in every present moment of each precious day He gives you.

Thus Far

Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.” 1 Samuel 7:12 NKJV

What anticipation. A December afternoon in 1965. When Dad came home from work as diesel railroad machinist, both parents would take my little brother and me Christmas shopping in bustling downtown Omaha. It was a big deal. We normally shopped in our much smaller hometown of Council Bluffs just across the Missouri River, the Mighty Mo’. Mom was seeking a particular gift for her sister only found at the massive downtown Brandeis store(to Omaha what Macy’s was to New York.). What’s more, after shopping we would return home to watch Mister Magoo’s Christmas Carol. It was a big deal and already a cherished tradition as the first Christmas television cartoon special in 1962 that paved the way for Charlie Brown and others in American pop culture. Watching Magoo play Dickens’ Scrooge was the first time I heard the name “Ebenezer.”

When we arrived at the store Mom set off on her quest. Dad let us fully in as co-conspirators in his shopping plans for Mom. We were thrilled as we secretly patrolled on mission with him throughout various departments, while keeping a lookout for Mom. From then on, joining one parent in their search for just the right gift for the other parent became one of my most cherished Christmas traditions. As I reflect on it now, it wasn’t the shopping for the item that I enjoyed the most—it was the shopping for the person. As we traversed the aisles I listened to the way Dad delightfully described his bride as the most beautiful woman in the world. He always said she reminded him of the actress Ava Gardner. He gave examples why she was such a faithful wife, mother, and registered nurse. I watched the way Dad precisely pursued the right sizes, colors, textures, and functions of the gift—all for the purpose of showing her how much He loved her. Dad didn’t always get the right size or the right color, but we always saw the same look in Mom’s eyes on Christmas morning. She loved and delighted in Dad always, even if he never gave her another gift. Yet she also knew that every gift she did receive from her bridegroom was a sacrificial labor of passionate love for her.

I get teased sometimes by other men because I love to shop for Kim, love to shop for my loved ones—whether for gifts or for groceries—just like my Dad. But I notice that women do not tease me. Every woman, every person, whether they are aware or not, longs to be cherished sacrificially. It is the case for you and for me. Jesus is just the person for the job. Let Him do it. Let Him love you passionately and precisely at your deepest need this Christmas. Cry out to Him in your pain. Pour out your praise and thanksgiving to Him for dying on the cross for you to save you from hell. Read scripture and listen deeply to what He is saying to you. Ask Him to give you more of His heart of love to passionately and precisely cherish the people in your immediate sphere of influence. In all your relationships with family, friend, or foe--I beg you to come up into His supernatural flow of love in each present moment. He is always right there with us, Emmanuel. Let your Helper help you.

This brings me to the name “Ebenezer.” Ebenezer means “stone of help.” Samuel set up a stone between Mizpah and Shen as an act of praise, thanksgiving, and remembrance for God’s people at a particularly crucial time. Mizpah can be translated “watchtower” and Shen can be “change.” They had forgotten their God, their Helper, who had delivered them from Egypt and brought them to the promised land. Instead, they embraced the idolatry and sexual immorality of the cultures around them. They were weary and heavy laden from the consequences of their sin and oppressed and harassed by their enemies. They came to Samuel whom God had mercifully raised up to watch over them. They asked him to pray for them. He prophesied and called them to destroy their Baal statues and Ashteroth poles and come back to the Lord and find mercy and rest in obedience to the His commands. And they did! They could no longer stand defenselessly squeezed between their own sin against God and their enemies against them. Join me in praying for America and modern day Israel, that both nations will turn from all idolatrous immorality and come rest in Jesus’ truth and love. Let it begin with you and me. Let this moment, this Christmas 2014 season, be a true Ebenezer time between you and the Lord. Come up into His watchtower and change! Let Him help you stop sinning and start shining.

The first step is always turning your eyes upon Jesus. Meditate upon who He is and what He has done for you thus far. It’s interesting to me that Charles Dickens named his character “Ebenezer Scrooge.” Scrooge comes from an old English word meaning “squeeze”—as in Scrooge miserly squeezing money out of every moment and person. So, literally, “Ebenezer Scrooge” can mean “The Stone of Help Squeezed”. Guess who that is?

Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: “The stone that the builders rejected has become the conrnerstone; this was the Lord’s doing and it is marvelous in our eyes?’ Matthew 21:42 ESV

The night before Jesus died on the cross for you and me, He prayed in agony in the garden of Gethsemane, which means “olive press”. Near that garden was a press which would extract the first cold virgin pressings of the olive fruit from the trees. He placed Himself into the press between the weight of the world’s sin and hellish destiny on one side; and the prospect of torturous death and temptation to avoid it, on the other.

And being in agony, he was praying very fervently; and His sweat became like drops of blood falling down upon the ground. Matthew 26:44 ESV

The next day He took all the wrath for our sin upon Himself, all our iniquities, all our diseases. He paid the price in full. He was dead as a door nail, and on the third day was raised. Then He sent the Holy Spirit—the first pressing of oil from His pure sacrifice—the Helper. He knit you together in your mother’s womb, helped someone pray for you, testify to you, invite you to receive Jesus, He actually helped you give your life to Christ, and He has preserved you through great trials and protected you from untold calamities up to this moment—thus far. And no matter how you may feel “squeezed” by the pressures of living in this sinful, fearful world as you read this—the One who entered the “olive press” for you is passionately and precisely pursuing everything for your best right now. This Christmas, will He see the look of absolute love in your eye for Him-- like my Dad saw in my Mom’s eye—whether he got the size right or not? Pause for just a moment…think about it…if He never did one more thing for you…if nothing else ever went right for you in this life…wouldn’t it be enough that He saved you from hell? The Holy Spirit is your oil of gladness. Let Him burn bright through praise, scripture, prayer, and grateful sacrificial giving of yourself for others. You are part of Jesus’ Bride. You are absolutely beautiful to Him. It’s a mystery, but we are all foremost on His mind at the same time. He’s always working, watch, waiting to help you now. Let Him. Love Him. Love others from His heart within you. That’s all He wants for Christmas. Come up and know Him better. The Helper has a wonderful adventure planned for you. The Bridegroom returns. What anticipation!

So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth. It shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. For you shall go out with joy, and be led out with peace. The mountains and the hills shall break forth into singing before you, and the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Isaiah 55:11-12

Dear local and global friends,

As I write this, word is coming of continued persecution of Christians in Iraq by Muslim ISIS terrorists. Children are being asked to renounce Jesus and are refusing to do so and they are being beheaded. They are now with Jesus. Are we? In Luke 21 the Lord said these days would come and told us to stand up straight and look up to Him. I ask the Arm of the Lord to awaken over Iraq to halt the evil one. I ask the Arm of the Lord to shake, awake, and protect Israel and the United States. I ask the Arm of the Lord to help me and you draw closer to Him that we will live these days going out with His joy and led with His peace. People need to find His joy and peace in us no matter what. We must stand with Jesus, for others, under His arm. We must stand.

One day on our trip to the northwest, we sat before the Lord for a couple hours in a bright wild flower meadow at the base of towering Mt. Ranier surrounded by other craggy mountains. Sublime. Before we left on our trip, a dear friend told me that she felt the Lord was inviting me to let the mountains “speak” to me in His presence. So that afternoon, resting under the Lord’s arm, Kim and I meditated upon Isaiah 55:12. I said “mountains speak.” In my prayer journal, I wrote the following poem of what I heard in heart. In the midst of a broken, fallen world, there is something encouraging in beholding a mountain. Mt. Ranier has stood for a long time since being birthed as a volcano long ago. The mountain has witnessed many eras of humanity’s inhumanity. Yet the Lord continues to robe Ranier in wildflower majesty. There’s something about a mountain and the way it can “speak”. Do not despair. Stand. Listen. Witness.

Mountains Speak!

I ask you mountains what are you saying

In the presence of the Lord?

Mountains speak!

“We stand, you will stand.

Clouds come and go.

We stand, you will stand.

Storms gather, storms unleash

We stand, you will stand.

We receive a blanket in winter,

A jacket in spring,

A tank top in summer,

Fleece in autumn.

We stand, you will stand,

Under Covering.

Basking in the Sun

We provide shade for those below.

The more we stand, the more waters flow

To those below.

We stand, receive, reflect, shade, shelter, and bask.

We stand for a while

Until the Return of the One

For whom you stand.

They say we are majestic

But we know we only point

To His Majesty.

Many friends of Come Rest Ministries from many streams will serve you in our worship, teaching, art, prayer, & fellowship rooms.
This is our inaugural 3 Day Gathering. We have no idea how many will come. We know the Lord’s loving presence will be deep, tender, healing, quiet, fiery, cooling, and refreshing as He sees the need in each person.
We see this first gathering as a rehearsal for many more in the future. We already plan another in April of 2015.
Richard Speight keeps hearing the phrases “many streams, one river” and “lovefest with Jesus”! Good things are coming.

Enjoy and Expect Him Today

Now concerning how and when all this will happen, dear brothers and sisters, we don’t really need to write you. For you know quite well that the day of the Lord’s return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night. When people are saying, “Everything is peaceful and secure,” then disaster will fall on them as suddenly as a pregnant woman’s labor pains begin. And there will be no escape. But you aren’t in the dark about these things, dear brothers and sisters, and you won’t be surprised when the day of the Lord comes like a thief. For you are all children of the light and of the day; we don’t belong to darkness and night. So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded. Night is the time when people sleep and drinkers get drunk. But let us who live in the light be clearheaded, protected by the armor of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation.For God chose to save us through our Lord Jesus Christ, not to pour out his anger on us. Christ died for us so that, whether we are dead or alive when he returns, we can live with him forever. So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing. 1 Thess. 5:1-11 NLT

Dear local and global friends of Come Rest,

· First, consider forwarding our emails to your friends, a great way to help them and this ministry.

· I am hearing the Spirit say “summer of wise counsel—intimate, intricate instructions.” I ask each of you to let the Lord come alongside you in scripture reading this summer. He wants to bring you His true practical counsel from His perspective. Expect to be lifted above your circumstances because His ways are higher than ours! I ask you, and would beg you if necessary, to draw close to him and read slowly the entire 5^th chapter of 1 Thessalonians. He has something very particular and special for you concerning your life and people in your sphere of influence this summer.

· Last week in worship my grandson Micah slept peacefully in my arms during a worship service. What a great gift to savor. I then heard the Lord say in my heart, “It’s almost over son.” I was not alarmed, but alerted. I instantly knew the Lord was speaking of His return. He reminded me to enjoy and expect. Stop worrying, keep witnessing. Got it Lord. Message received. He’s been working with me on it this week. The learning continues. Now to share it with each of you. The Lord wants you to enjoy Him, enjoy your life with Him in the present circumstance of this tired old world, in this present day He has given you; and to expect Him to return before this particular day is over. As you do this, He will empower you to be more loving, more joyful, more peaceful, more patient, more kind, more faithful, more generous, more humble, more self-controlled in His Spirit. Do not let any lies of the enemy, your fears, or any end times doctrinal debates distract you. Jesus says He will return like a thief in the night, when He is least expected. He wants you to stay alert and adoring. He wants you to watch and pray each day. He wants to change your daily personal walk by changing your daily perspective. People around you need you to practice this. You need this. So do I.

Real New Testament Christianity is precisely this: believers living with Him one day at a time joyfully witnessing and resting in His finished work on the cross; AND earnestly expecting His return any moment. This is the way New Testament believers lived, this is the way historic Christianity has always been at its best. When Christians fail to live this way, the not-yet saved believers around us lose the benefit of our faith, hope, and love in their lives. When Christianity drifts from joy and expectancy, it is no longer compass and conscience for a sinful world. If we don’t live His “enjoy and expect” daily lifestyle, we get worried and distracted by the cares of this world, the lures of our flesh, or the lies of the enemy. I am to worry about nothing, give thanks in everything, and receive His powerful personal help with everything I’m facing today. I am not to stick my head in the ground, I am to put my head on His chest. I am not to worry about tomorrow. Yes, He permits me to wisely plan for tomorrow, but not fearfully obsess for tomorrow. Do you see the difference? To live in this wisdom today will help you plan wisely, not fearfully, for tomorrow. The world is aflame with the dark fire of fear. He wants to set you ablaze with His perfect love which casts out all fear. The Lord is aiming to reach fearful hearts around you. That’s why He’s aiming this email at your heart right now. Enjoy Him right now. Expect Him any moment. Experience the difference.

· The Lord has called Kim and I to step out in faith for 3 week ministry adventure to the Seattle area August 7^th through 28^th. We now see how this trip will be pivotal for the next phase of Come Rest Ministries—a glimpse of things to come. Here is our update.

1. We have the honor to officiate at the wedding of a wonderful young couple there and to minister to, and with, their family Aug.7-10.

2. After the 10^th we anticipate 18 days of divine appointments with individuals, groups, and churches.

3. We will have divine appointments with relatives we have not seen for 50 years. We are still tracking down some of them. My dad sent some of them my books in the past and they are now emailing us they are very excited to meet us!

4. We will spend some retreat with the Lord in His beautiful creation. So far, we have reserved 3 nights Aug.18-20 at an old Inn @Mt. Rainier National Park. Another couple is giving us suggestions on some more retreat options near Cannon Beach. Another couple is talking to us about Victoria, BC.

5. Praises! We so appreciate your prayers and financial support. The wedding couple is providing our air tickets, lodging for three nights. Another dear couple has generously committed to cover us for 3-4 nights with their Marriott hotel points. A pastor friend has recommended a possible publishing contact for us to interview. Another pastor friend is connecting us with his home church in Seattle and first reports are their pastors are very excited about having us come minister. Conversations continue. Another friend has told us of another possible church connection. Let us know if the Lord brings some ideas to your mind through your connections. Maybe there are people you know in Seattle who need to come rest in Jesus’ love! The Lord is going to move powerfully this trip.

· I continue a labor of love in writing a new vision document for a coming initiative by Come Rest. Please pray for me. I’m getting closer to sharing it with you all.

· Keep sending your prayer requests. We love praying big for each of you!

· Our ministry finances continue to be a challenge. The window air conditioner and computer printer in our office now need to be replaced. Thank you for praying for us and for every financial gift! It is exciting to see more of you this week accepting our “seed casting” challenge for our book Real Fruit. $18 for one, but $100 for 10!! If you want to give our books away as seeds in others’ lives in your business, family, or prayer walking-- then we want you to have that price. You are supporting His ministry and spreading His message at the same time!

Slow to Anger, Quick to Love the Lost

Dear Local and Global Friends of Come Rest,

In addition to Matthew 6 & 7, I suggest that you begin meditating upon Joshua 5 & 6 and the short book of Jonah. As a ministry we are going to stay with the Lord in these chapters until we feel He moves us on.

· In Matthew 6 & 7 consider specific adjustments Jesus wants you to make in a closer personal walk with Him.

· In Joshua 5&6 consider the preparation and marching orders given to Joshua by the Lord. What is the Lord saying to you and your church?

· In Jonah, consider how Jonah ran away from the Lord’s call to go to Nineveh. How is the Lord calling you to go mercifully to your city in His name?

· In prayer a picture came to my mind concerning the marching orders the Lord is giving to the Body of Christ in America. I saw fortified walls around the not-yet-saved as the walls of Jericho and I heard the phrase “Slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.” The Lord instructed Joshua to march Israel around Jericho for seven days. On the seventh day there were seven circuits before the final shout that knocked down the walls. In this year of Consuming Fire of 2014, I believe the Lord is aiming in “day one march” to lead us to become slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. If we want our lost relatives, friends, and enemies to be saved, we need to draw closer to the Lord and become more patient, kind, and generous people.

· Curiously enough, Jonah resists God’s call to invite Nineveh to repent because he knows God is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love—so willing to receive those who repent.

· The more we thank and praise the Lord for our own salvation, the more He will make our hearts soft and full of His fire and kindness for others. This, in turn, contributes to destroying the walls up around the lost.

And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. Then he who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.”” Revelation 7:17; 21:4-5

Dear friends,

On April 20, 2007 my mama passed on to be with Jesus. This will be the first time this anniversary falls on Easter. I am especially mindful of her as Sunday approaches. She and my dad loved each other in 53 years of faithful Christian marriage. They introduced me to Jesus. She mercifully cared for many as a registered nurse. She never lost faith in her Jesus even though life often brought her much physical pain. She read to me, played basketball with me, kissed my owies, listened to me pour out my heart about whatever pleased or pained me, gave me wise counsel, and deeply loved my wife and children. Above all she prayed for me every day of my life. I believe she still does.

It’s hard for me to believe it has already been seven years since she passed. It’s not hard for me to believe she is with Jesus in heaven, because she loved Him on earth. He promises all who follow Him in this life will be with Him in the next. I wanted more time on earth with Mom, who was only 73 when she passed. But I am truly comforted by the Holy Spirit because of three main things: I know her tears and pain are over; I will see her again; and we will worship the Lamb forever.

I remember the Easters of my childhood. After we got up and found our Easter baskets of goodies we would go to church and then to grandma’s for children’s egg hunt and a huge extended family dinner. Before church Dad would take photos and movie film of mom, me, and my brother posing in our suits. Occasionally we behaved, many times she would have to tell us to knock it off and stand still! During worship, my brother and me sat between my mom and dad. I still remember how moved my Dad was by the choir singing his favorite “Jerusalem:The Holy City.” Mom’s eyes teary because his were. My favorite part of Easter was singing the great Easter hymns with my parents in the midst of the great congregation. It was my first glimpse of what heaven must be like. Dad’s favorite hymn was “Christ the Lord is Risen Today!” Mom’s was “Low in the Grave He Lay.”

So if you are local, maybe you want to join Kim and I for either of our Come Rest Celebrations this Sunday. We will sing my parents’ favorite hymns and meditate upon John 20 and Luke 24, ask the Holy Spirit to lead us, and give testimonies of our Risen Lord. But whether you are our local or global friend, the Risen Jesus is with you right now. He died once for all to destroy sin and death for you. He was raised from the dead and will never die again, so that all who trust Him will find living fountains of His presence in this life; and in the next life--no more tears, no more death. Even now, as you read this, behold He is doing a new thing!

Here is the first verse of my mama’s favorite Easter Hymn. Thanks Mama. Praise you Jesus! See you soon!
