I'm absolutely loving the show, after worrying that my high expectations would be confounded. We look back at series one, and discuss the changes in format. <itunes:summary>#12 sees me joined by ApexJazz, where we froth over the Sky Arts adapdation of Chekhov one-act plays, available on DVD as Chekhov Shorts. I speculate on why The Boosh may not be the most popular comedians on the Cook'd and Bomb'd forums, and then ApexJazz and I look at British comedy circa January 2011, which is when this was originally recorded. That entails a lot of groaning about Frankie Boyle's Tramadol Nights, and The Morgana Show, rounded off by pointing out what a shame it is that Ruperert Murdoch is the one bringing culture to British comedy, while Channel 4 continues to stagnate, and attack the vulnerable.</itunes:summary>

Podcast number 3 starts out with the intention of discussing This Just In, but Kelvin and I quickly get side-tracked by a discussion revolving around one-liners in general. I will hold the full discussion of This Just In over for podcast number 4. We also talk about the recent fuss concerning Keith Chegwin posting jokes on Twitter, and question whether anyone should really have cared. Are one-liners actually any good, when they tend to be so formulaic, and disconnected from the personality of the writer? Although Kelvin and I are both quite positive about British comedy at the minute, we both conclude that there's certainly a lot lacking, particularly in terms of sketch comedy, and experimental, risk-taking material. This was prompted by recently experiencing Delocated for the first time, as well as catching up with the latest from Tim and Eric, and other American Adult Swim comedy shows. Finally, we discuss (and justify) why bad comedy can be fascinating, and can lead to us tuning in for every single episode.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/ComedyChat/~4/mTsFxDWhtfs" height="1" width="1"/>

Hello, back at long last with Comedy Chat podcast number 2. I've a lot of bits and pieces I want to edit, and fire up here when I get a chance, but here's something more recent. This is from my CaB Radio show, dated 5th September 2010, and I'm joined once again by Kelvin. We had both been thinking about how naturalistic comedy seems to be relatively light in laughs - not that laughter is always a priority when judging comedy shows anyway, but it's certainly one of the most important ingredients, and what we all want. We also discuss the fantastic new BBC2 sitcom, Grandma's House, written by Simon Amstell and his co-writer Dan Swimer. It also features Simon Amstell in the lead role, and we discuss how jarring broad, old-skool comedy performances can suddenly seem due to comedy trends, and audience perceptions.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/ComedyChat/~4/XSYLpNyk_QM" height="1" width="1"/>

<itunes:summary>In this second Comedy Chat podcast, we discuss naturalistic comedy, and how it seems light on laughs, and try to figure out why this may be. Then we discuss the way an ashamedly old-school comedy such as The IT Crowd was marketed, before finally discussing Grandma's House, the new Simon Amstell and Dan Swimer sitcom on BBC2. Much enthusiasm is generated.</itunes:summary>

Hello, welcome to Comedy Chat, the podcast. Like Comedy Chat, the forum, this will be aimed at people who take comedy unashamedly seriously. Comedy doesn't have to be treated flippantly just because it's an inherently light-hearted art-form. Comedy is the most important means of communication we have developed as a species, and it deserves to be treated with the same respect as all other art-forms. This blog/podcast will also try and steer clear of kicking easy targets. In other words, the output of BBC3, for instance, is not worthy of much analysis, because it's obviously awful. It's more interesting to look at the comedy that is supposed to be good. Is Jack Whitehall a worthy target for the first podcast? I reckon so, but you may well disagree. Channel 4 seems determined to make him famous, and I'm fascinated by the way this is taking place - it is therefore worthy of discussion. Let me know if you disagree. In fact, the best thing to do is get involved with the discussions on CaB Radio, then you can set your own agenda. See the side-bar there for the voicemail and skype contact details, or use the CaB Radio thread on Cook'd and Bomb'd. Onto the first podcast, here's a rough list of contents: 00:00 - 14:52 - Setting out the stall, explaining the podcast. Kelvin joins the discussion. 14:52 - 44:30 Jack Whitehall's cocaine-based PR stunt - that days News Of The World shows pictures of Jack Whitehall snorting coke off a Blackberry, which seems like good publicity for the new C4 comedy show. 44:30 - 72:46 Should Angus Deayton have been fired from Have I Got News For You? / Comedians being hypocrites. 72:46 - 90:55 Return to Jack Whitehall discussion, and talk about Stand Up For The Week, more chat about the glory days of HIGNFY. 90:55 - 116:53 Kelvin leaves the discussion. I talk about Chris Morris in Australia, podcast he has done with Kayvan Novak where Novak mocks 'nerds'. Then discussion of Chris Morris mocking Aussie comics for apologising for offensive material, and a look at the material in question. (Thanks to Kelvin for the Skype, and Goldentony for the gag which formed the title.)<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/ComedyChat/~4/B06z4CMXeio" height="1" width="1"/>
