Remember the tenuously-linked-to-CoE Scottish prog band The Lunacy Board? Well, true to their name they are releasing their first 3 albums within 3 days of each other, including one which will be written, recorded and published within 24 hours.

The releases start in the middle of July, but anyone pre-ordering two albums will get a limited edition copy of the third for free.

Sad news from the tail end of 2007.

Comedy of Errors' stalwart roadie, sound engineer and driver passed away unexpectedly late in December. Tim was a valued member of the CoE road-crew and retained an encyclopedic memory of stories from life on the road.

Our thoughts go out to Tim's brother, CoE guitarist Mike, and all his family.

A few things of interest...

There is a short review of the Abel Ganz set at King Tuts here. A very positive report on Joe's performance indeed - hopefully the Ganz will be inspired to keep him on! It's on a page which includes an interview with Hew and Hugh (To wit, two Hughs?) from Abel Ganz and some good pictures (from the soundcheck, I presume). Well worth a look.

I came across a website this week which will also be of interest to some of you - Glasband 80 - a nostalgic look at the rock scene in Glasgow through the 80s, from the bands to the venues. It features lots of photos, music clips and video - even footage from the Kelvingrove Festival in 1985 (no - they don't have any CoE footage - I did ask!). Tommy, the webmaster of the site, was delighted to come across another site about a Glasgow band from the 80s and kindly offered space for a Comedy of Errors page. So CoE are now included on their list of 80s bands - welcome to anybody visiting here from Glasband 80!

And finally, I've updated the links page with some more recent links to better reflect recent happenings on the outskirts of CoE-land.

Prog in Glasgow

Not a bad couple of months for progressive music enthusiasts around Glasgow... Next week sees US progsters Glass headlining a gig at the Classic Grand on 25th of October. Support is from local bands Oswald and The Twisted Melons.

The evening will be kicked off with the live debut of The Lunacy Board - the quirky prog project very tenuously related to CoE.

Doors open at 7pm and tickets are £6.

Joe will be joining Abel Ganz on stage for a couple of songs at their forthcoming gig supporting Pallas at King Tut's in Glasgow on the 31st of August.

Expect a night of guest performers, with former Pallas vocalist joining in on the Pallas set and current Pallas vocalist Alan Reed joining in on the Abel Ganz set as well as Joe.

A little more news from The Grand Tour, Joe's latest musical endeavour. They have rehearsed the new material enough to start recording three of the tracks from the forthcoming album. Full details on their website, along with some new pictures of the band together.

Over the last few months Joe Cairney has been working with Hew Montgomery (Abel Ganz keyboards) and Andrew Young (Ex Mooon guitarist) on a new musical project. Hew has eight songs ready for recording. Andrew is working on the guitar at present while Joe works on the vocals.You can get updated info from www.grandtourmusic.com

From the demos I have heard, this could turn out to be a great album, with a range of songs which are significantly different to Comedy Of Errors, but which provide a suitable setting for Joe's voice. We'll keep you informed of progress as this project moves on.

New Band (semi-related to CoE)

In the absence of news from the CoE camp, I'm pleased to pleased to pass on news about a new progressive band that has recently formed, and which boasts a tenuous link with Comedy of Errors. Former member of the CoE road crew, Sean Urquhart, has formed "The Lunacy Board" to champion progressive music and related projects.

The band's first recording, "The Unofficial National Anthem", is available for download from their website at www.lunacyboard.com.

Thanks to Steve, the Recordings section is now complete, at least until any new recordings surface(?)

All the artwork from the 3-CD set is now up on the site - hats off once again to Steve for the production and presentation of this musical gem.

I've just given the site a bit of a minor update, including tidying the front page up a bit, and putting in links to the news feeds:

Also, details of the new 3-CD set are (at long last) included in the Recordings page, though I can't put pictures up yet, as my scanner packed-up last week, and I'll not be replacing it for a few weeks.

Finally, I've fiddled a bit with the pages to hopefully make them a bit more Google-friendly, so the site appears higher up in a Google search.

A decent-sized entry in this encyclopedic reference to all things prog. Suspiciously familiar biography section - lifted directly from this site!

Gibraltar Encyclopedia of Progressive Rock
Another prog rock reference page - this time with a short review:

A British neo-prog band, at times similar to Pendragon or the Holidays In Eden era Marillion. Some songs are almost straight melodic hard rock with some Mark Kelly styled keyboards icing the cake; others feature a bit more complexity in the rhythm and composition departments. An obviously low-budget production, the CD has a pressing error so that the song "The Student Prince, Part I" has been replaced by a demo-quality version of another song on the album, "Behold The Knight". Most of the songs are undeniably catchy, but the whole album is very light on the progressive side. Following a successful upgrade to the website, I'm adding in a new 'news' system.
This makes it easier and quicker for me to update and allows anyone to add comments to each bit of news. It also allows you to get the latest CoE info in the form of a news feed in RSS format, if you're into such things!
Hopefully it will make the site a bit more interactive, allowing discussion about news without having to go through Yahoo mail.

Night Out

A night of chat, reminiscing and looking forward. Yates' Wine Lodge, Central Station, Glasgow is the venue for the CoE night out. There will be live CDs (Steve's 3-CD live compilation), new CDs (Jim's latest works-in-progress) and DVDs (Jonathan's photo/web/video archive), as well as plenty of road stories and quite possibly some beer, too.

All Joe's material is now up on the site. The latest additions include a number of rehearsal photos and a new Timeline feature, which combines the gig list, recordings, and other time-related things.

Site Make-over

The site ran out of space, stopping me posting any new material, so I have split it in two, with the sound clips on a different server, so there is a lot more space available now for more sounds and pictures. During this overhaul, I've redesigned the site a bit so that it is easier to navigate around (unless your browser is fairly old and cannot handle frames, in which case it will be more awkward - let me know if this is a problem).
Finally, there are a couple of new sections - the song list shows all the songs played by the band, along with lyrics where available, and articles lists reviews, newsletters and similar items - there are several more of these to follow...

The pictures Tony uploaded to the Yahoo group have been added to the site - thanks Tony. I have also started uploading some of the lyrics, and these can be accessed from the gig list (and I'll be adding links to them in a couple of other places later as well).

More early CoE material from Joe is now up on the gig list - photographs from Kelvingrove Festival and Bridge of Weir gigs, and some tickets and flyers from a number of gigs, including supporting Pallas at the Aberdeen Music Hall. The list itself has been changed, so that clicking on a gig will show you any extra detail about the gig, such as photographs, flyers, setlists, etc.

Jim has sent through another few teasers of tracks he is currently re-working from the band's past, along with Mark on guitar. You'll find them on the sounds page.
Thanks to Joe, who spent about 3 hours taking me through his collection, I have a large amount of 'new' material to add to the site. I've started off by updating the gig list from Joe's diary and collection of tickets, so years from 1984 to 1988 are better represented now. There should be plenty more added (tickets, reviews & photos) over the next week or two.

I have just uploaded 3 'new' songs to the sounds page. These were recorded onto 4-track by Barry, John & Mark (so not actually a full line-up) and were being rehearsed up until the band split. They give some insight into the direction they may have followed. Thanks to Barry & Mark for providing these, and allowing them to be included on the site.
