Today I found a clip from Whose Line that had me in stitches. Did y’all know this was a show in the UK first? It is amazing how many recycles we get from the UK. for instance: Sanford and Son (yup.) I think the American version is funnier in general (that‘s probably just a reflection of the American taste in humor), but the games were better on the British version. (Does anyone besides me hate the hoedown game?)

Here is the second part of the short I started yesterday. Buster Keaton and Fatty Arbuckle. Born into vaudeville, Buster Keaton’s godfather was Harry Houdini.

I love the old vaudevillians. The rules of being onstage are largely the same even now, and they knew them all. I try to watch and learn, but I’m too busy laughing.

Since I mentioned Fatty Arbuckle (one of the original Keystone Cops) yesterday, I found this clip to give you an idea of his comedic talent. Although totally innocent of any wrong doing, he was also involved in the first great Hollywood scandal. Having also mentioned Buster Keaton yesterday, I include this team up of two of the early greats.

The conclusion to yesterday's short. Stan Laurel was one of the great early film comics but never had the success of Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd, Fatty Arbuckle or Charlie Chaplin until he was teamed with Oliver Hardy. Some people just work better in a team, I guess.

Stan Laurel came to America on the same boat as Charlie Chaplin and Mr. Chaplin didn't even mention him in his book. Well, sometimes we expect too much of stars of stage and screen: polite mentions in auto-biographies, not dangling children over balconies, wearing underwear...
