As Cassandra Cain searches for her father, she brings with her the dilemma of whether or not she will kill her enemy, David Cain. She fights this as she watches her other sisters battle with the same dilemma–mostly succumbing to the desire to rid the world completely of anything related to the David Cain/Slade Wilson alliance.

I enjoyed this story and was sad to see it end. I think that Batgirl is strong enough to have her own on-going series. At times, it did dip a little into melodrama, but it doesn’t have to. I think we need to have these side characters emerge to hold their own series. It seems that this is a time when many of the characters are getting their series ended. This year we have seen Cat Woman, Nightwing, and Robin all lose their own series. It is hoped they rebuild these holes with new additions, like Batgirl, to flesh out the expanding story within the DC Universe.

If you have read this blog for several years, you would know that I am still new to comic books. I would love to immerse myself in it, but I can’t do that as much as I’d like.

So we see in this book, The Scorpion.

The (new) Scorpion was introduced in
Amazing Spider-man 572, but begin to play a role in battling Anti-Venom in 573.

In Weapon of Destruction, the story refers to there being a previous Scorpion–which makes sense. The name is easy to deduct that it is not a band new idea. But, this is probably my first encounter with it.

I hope the writers take time to flesh this out a little more and give a little more background, so I can catch up.

But it is also interesting that the Villains of Amazing Spider-man have a habit of recreating themselves. This is different–and somewhat more unbelievable–than DC whose villains aren’t killed, but placed in one of the DC Universes many Asylums and escape or get paroled. It is an interesting thought to thin about the many ways to bring a villain back to life.

Sometimes it is good to just sit and enjoy a good story.

Amazing Spiderman #572 has a lot to enjoy–Green Goblin, Venom, Anti-Venom, Bullseye, and even a touch of romance. With so much going on–it was just nice to read and enjoy. This is the fifth book of the New Ways toDie Story and even with the controversial Brand New Day series that turn the Spider-man Universe upside down..this seems like a good reason for it all.

Sometimes–and this is something that DC has to deal with, writters get stuck in the rut of do the same story over and over…MJ gets kidnapped, Aunt May on her death bed, Peter Parker feels guilty–and let’s do it again…maybe switch it up sometime–MJ is on her death bed, Aunt May gets kidnapped, and Peter Parker feels guilty.

The fact remains that the Brand New Day series was risky and controversial. But there are more stories to tell because of it. Because the authors aren’t bound by what already is the pattern.

Easy Targets is an example of how the Amazing Spider-man can have new life breathed into it, by a simple–but gutsy move.
