In the comic book industry, the fans are represented by two separate yet equally important groups: the creators, who make comics; and the companies, who own and publish the comics. These are their stories.

If you've been on any of the comic book news sources or any social media sites in the past two weeks, then you're aware of the current legal battles of Gary Friedrich V. Marvel over the character Ghost Rider and Robert Kirkman V. Tony Moore over The Walking Dead. Needless to say, it's been an ugly couple of weeks and there's a virtual civil war brewing online as pro comics creators are taking sides. To make matters worse, Kevin Smith's reality show Comic Book Men premiered and the results were less than stellar.

Despite all the doom and gloom, we do manage to talk about some actual comics, including Batgirl, Catwoman, Justice League International and Winter Soldier.

Avengers VS X-Men #1 Preview

Well, for better or worse, here it is, the next big slugfest pitting hero against hero for the fate of the world. Cyclops and the X-Men believe the arrival of the Phoenix Force will save mutantkind, Captain America and the Avengers remain convinced it will destroy the world. Who is right?

Unfortunately, you have to wait until April to figure it out.

Written by BENDIS, AARON, FRACTION, HICKMAN and BRUBAKER (Because apparently those are the only five guys writing comics at Marvel these days.)

In honor of Super Bowl XLVI, I present NFL SuperPro! It has the distinction of being widely regarded as one of the worst comics ever published, including an issue that the Hopi tribe tried to get Marvel to pull from the shelves for containing both racist content and information about the Hopis that they consider sacred. According to ComicBookDB.com, The Hopi Nation found the appropriation of their religious beliefs offensive and demanded that Marvel recall the issue from the stands. According to Marvel editor Tom Brevoort, Marvel issued a formal apology to the Hopi Nation for publishing the issue.

NFL SuperPro ran 12 issues plus a Super Bowl special.

#84 - No Comic for Old Men

Once again, DC Comics made an announcement that darn near cracked the internet in half. New mini-series' are coming out based on the characters from Watchmen, written and drawn by some of the best talent the industry has to offer.

Naturally, the Alan Moore and the fans had something to say about that. And so do we.

This pretty much sums everything up. Run, Dave Gibbons, run.

We also give an update on the state of Robert Kirkman & Rob Liefeld's book, The Infinite. Hint: it's not good news.

We managed to squeeze in a few book reviews as well: Walking Dead 93, Justice League Dark 5, Voodoo 5, I,Vampire 5, Lobster Johnson: The Burning Hand 1, Prophet 21 and Secret Avengers 21.1.

It's the first issue of the new story arc leading to #100, which is a huge milestone for what is technically an indie comic book. Only two other Image comics have reached triple digits since the company's founding, Savage Dragon and Spawn. It really puts into perspective the body of work that Robert Kirkman, Charlie Adlard and Cliff Rathburn have built over the past 8-9 years.

Okay, well maybe we're exaggerating a little with those cliched comic book sayings. It's still Dan and the Duke, but it's a brand new year and we have a lot to talk about. We've been gone for three weeks, but the comic book industry stops for no one. We talk about the recent New 52 cancellations/replacements, Rob "I Have More Lives Than a Cat" Liefeld's New 52 assignments, Walt Simonson on Avengers, Gene Ha on Justice League, DC Comics' new logo and, of course, we manage to squeeze in a few reviews.

We've also issued one challenge to ourselves: to interview Rob Liefeld. Love him or hate him, Rob is one of the most well known personalities in comics and has had an incredible (and some might say, infamous) career.

It truly is the season of Festivus, as both Dan and the Duke air some grievances. Duke takes umbrage with Marvel's current polybagging of the Ultimate titles while Dan realizes that going back and rereading The Walking Dead from the beginning isn't as easy as he thought.

Of course there is some comic talk, as D & D review Defenders #1, Mouse Guard The Black Axe #3, Valen the Outcast #1 and Irredeemable #32. There's also some books reviewed from the recent past; 100 Bullets Vol. 5: The Counterfifth Detective and Captain Britain and MI:13.

NEWS!
