We have two great comic book tastes that go great together for your…viewing…pleasure. Daredevil #26 and Deadpool #10 come out this Wednesday. Daredevil is a special double-sized extra, for only a dollar more, celebrating the amazing third year of the series from Mark Waid and artist Chris Samnee. Matt Murdock is still reeling from his encounter with the mirror version of Daredevil, Ikari. Matt has to figure out the mystery of the new villain and who his master is, but first he has to deal with a special appearance from Iron Man.

Over in Deadpool, with writers Gerry Duggan and Brian Poshen along with artist Mike Hawthorne, the Merc with the Mouth teams up with ol’ Spider-Man. Deapool isn’t going to be outdone by Daredevil and some nut job in a tin suit. He’s going to partner up with the most controversial hero in the Marvel U. There’s also a special cameo from Batroc The Leaper. He’s going to appear in the upcoming movie Captain America: The Winter Soldier, so of course Deadpool has to make fun of him. Check out the previews for both great books below!

A DOUBLE-SIZED EXTRA-vanagnza celebrating the third-year of the acclaimed series!

• Face to face with his opposite number–a foe Daredevil cannot beat!

• What is his connection to the accident that created Daredevil?

• PLUS: As Foggy deals with his cancer, Matt turns to one of the brightest guys in the galaxy for help. • Here comes…Iron Man!

Matt Fraction will be carrying on with a recent development that sees Ben Grimm reverting back to his human form one day every year thanks to a special serum worked up by the kids of the Future Foundation. In Fantastic Four #8 we’ll see the ever-lovin’ blue-eyed Thing going back home to Yancy Street. The issue written by Fraction with art from Mark Bagley, Mark Farmer, and Joe Rubinstein hits comic shops May 22nd. What do you think of the preview? Will you be picking this special issue up?

• One day a year, The Thing reverts to his human form. This year… Ben Grimm is going to go home again — as Ben Grimm!

• What was Yancy Street REALLY like back in the day? And how long until the ever-loving’ THING makes his appearance?

• And meanwhile, the tables get turned in Franklin and Val’s relationship… and when these two siblings have a rivalry, all bets are off.

The release of Red 2 is still over a month away and Summit is hoping the sequel can capture the same success that its predecessor did at the box office. The first film was a bit of a surprise to many, giving viewers a great combination of action and comedy, topped off with a group of excellent veteran actors like Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman, Brian Cox and Richard Dreyfuss. Add to that the action skills of Bruce Willis and the quirky style of John Malkovich and you have a winning formula. The film raked in an impressive $199 million at the world wide box office and $90 million domestically.

Word has come that Summit Entertainment has brought on Jon and Erich Hoeber to pen a third film in the action franchise. The duo is credited for penning the script for the first two films in the franchise. Red 2 sees Bruce Willis return as a retired Black-Ops agent re-teaming with his compatriots to take on a new threat. The film also acquired a few new recruits like Sir Anthony Hopkins and Catherine Zeta-Jones, as well as GI Joe: Retaliation star Byung hun Lee.

No deals have been made with cast members yet, but word is that if the script is received well, production could begin as early as January 2014. So far, Red 2 has tested extremely well and judging by the trailers we’ve seen, the film should be on par with the first film. You can catch Red 2 in theaters July 19th.

The Doctor Who season finale will air in just a few hours on BBC America. The Brits have already seen it, and besides Twitter, they’ve done a good job of keeping the story’s secrets. The episode did not lie. The biggest secret The Doctor has ever had is revealed and it will change the history of Doctor Who forever. I do not say that lightly. I’ve seen almost every episode that is still in existence and consider myself an amateur Whostorian as it were. The episode is the last we’ll see until the November 50th Anniversary spectacular.

The BBC announced the air date of the episode after the final credits rolled on The Name of The Doctor. The banner above gives the date as November 23, 2013 in case you couldn’t read the date the way the Brits write it. That’s the exact day the very first episode, An Unearthly Child, aired 50 years ago. We figured that may be the case, but it’s confirmed now. Because the interwebz did a good job of keeping the secrets even though some people got the episode on Blu-ray a few weeks early, the BBC unveiled a special behind the scenes video featuring David Tennant and Matt Smith talking about filming the special together. It’s nothing major, but it is a pretty fun video.

Now this is where things get tricky. The episode featured a huge, monumental, gigantic reveal that changes Doctor Who forever. I WILL NOT reveal it in this article, but I will give you links to a YouTube video with the reveal and a screengrab of the surprising development. Click at your own risk. I’d recommend that you wait until you watch it, but I know some people have to know right here and right now. The link to the YouTube video with the reveal is here (though it may be taken down soon, as most spoiler videos are). The picture can be found here. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. If you discuss it below, do try to keep it vague or veiled. What did you think of the episode? Are you ready for the 50th?

Yesterday, Marvel Studios head honcho gave us more updates on the future of Hulk and Doctor Strange solo films, both of which are in some phase development, with Strange likely to hit in the scheduled Phase Three of films. More from that EW interview has surfaced and we have more information on a few properties that could make a showing in upcoming films and possibly their own standalone movie. There’s a lot of stuff to cover here, so stick with me. You ready?

Iron Man 4

One of the biggest questions coming from the Marvel Studios camp right now is whether or not Robert Downey Jr. will be returning to reprise the role of Tony Stark; a part that seems to be ripped from the pages of our beloved comic books. It’s hard for fans to imagine anyone else taking on the role of Iron Man, but it’s a possibility we may have to face. As it stands now, RDJ’s contract with Marvel Studios is complete and the high-profile actor has made it no secret that he’d like to take on new characters in smaller films. Not to mention, he is getting up there in years in regards to action films (yes, I know there are actors who are older and are still tearing it up on the big screen, but RDJ isn’t an action star at his core). Recently, RDJ said “I’d go start another one tomorrow, but it’s not tomorrow,” Downey tells EW. “ And there are a lot of other considerations. But I also don’t like the idea of leaving people hanging or leaving people in the lurch.” He goes on to say that he’d like to start a new franchise, independent of anything he is doing right now, including his work on Sherlock Holmes.

Feige confirms that Marvel is talking with RDJ in regards to a new contract to return as Iron Man, but he also says that the character is one of those like James Bond and Batman, one that can on and on, no matter who is suiting up. So, after all that, we don’t really know where we stand. I think we can expect to see RDJ one more time in the upcoming Avengers sequel, but after that, who knows.

Daredevil, Punisher, Ghost Rider & Blade

Some good news for hardcore Marvelites in recent weeks, as we learned that character rights for Daredevil, Punisher, Ghost Rider and Blade had officially returned home so to speak. All four of the characters can now be included in future Marvel Studios films, which opens the door to numerous possibilities, including a Marvel Knights film or series of films. But before you get too excited, Kevin Feige has a bit of depressing news.

“So Punisher, Ghost Rider, … Blade, all those characters are back,” Feige told EW. “They all have potential, but I think we need to find the right time.”

It’s good to know that these characters are back where they belong, but it looks as though we’ll none of them are a priority for Phase Three. We haven’t seen Daredevil in about 10 years, when Ben Affleck donned the red leather. Fox nearly had a film get into production as late as last year when Joe Carnahan pitched a gritty, 1970′s-esque style reboot, but the studio ultimately passed and the rights reverted back. Two Ghost Rider films were made, starring Nicolas Cage, both of which failed to capture audience attention and box office success. As for Blade and Punisher, Wesley Snipes found himself in jail and no one else has made an effort to touch the project and Punisher, despite having three films over a near 30 year time-span, couldn’t quite get it right.

Inhumans

Before Guardians of the Galaxy was announced, many fans were hoping that Marvel would be announcing that the Inhumans would be included in the Phase Two set of films. Obviously, that didn’t happen, but stay optimistic, as a film based on the super beings may still have some traction. Back in 2011, Feige told EW that a film centered on the Inhumans, a group of highly intelligent beings that stem from the result of testing, was in the works and he was quite enthusiastic about the idea.

“Inhumans is cool, they’re really great characters,” he said in a recent interview, getting more animated about this title than almost any other he discussed. “The most powerful guy is the king who doesn’t say a word and if he does — lookout. That’s awesome. And the notion of the Terrigen Mists, this notion that you go through and don’t know what you’re going to be on the other side, is incredibly compelling dramatically.”

The idea of this group is a bit out there, but with Guardians in the pipeline, the idea of some of the more “cosmic” concepts from the comics may not seem so out there. After all, if folks can take to an impressively armed, trash-talking racoon and a warrior tree, a group of super-smart aliens shouldn’t be too hard to place on the big screen. Feige goes on to say that a lot of the “craziness that comes with Inhumans, we’ve done in the other movies already,” but the Inhumans would add a new aspect of social drama that we haven’t seen yet in a Marvel film, but Fox’s X-Men has been touching on for a while now.

Runaways

Back in 2011, a film based on this group of super-powered teens nearly made it into production, with directors and actors being looked at. Series creator, Brian K. Vaughn, had put together a script that was later re-worked by Iron Man 3 scribe Drew Pearce, which caused the project to delay for some time. The characters had a hard time fitting into the planned Phase One group of films, which as we know all lead up to Avengers, and the project was put on indefinite hold, where it has stayed ever since.

“It’s a matter of where it fits,” Feige says. “The way the business is working now, you either have really inexpensive, sort of surprise movies that can come out and be hits, but don’t cost much. Or you have the big giant summer blockbusters that really swing for the fences. Right now, we’re just swinging for the fences every time. Runaways sort of falls in between those, in a way. We just haven’t found where or how to do it… right now.”

There was no issues with the script at all, which Feige and numerous other Marvel folks are still quite fond of. The group was som impressed by it, they hired Pearce to co-write the script for Iron Man 3. There is still hope for this film as Marvel film over-seer Joss Whedon is a big fan of the series and even did an arc for the series a few years back. Anyone know what Whedon has planned after Phase Two and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? Feige closed this portion by simply shrugging his shoulders and saying “I’d love to do it someday.”

Marvel Zombies

Not sure if you’ve noticed, but Zombies are kind of a big deal right now. We have Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead on television right now and is extremely popular, an adaption of Max Brooks’ World War Z headed to theaters in a few months and numerous other takes on the the flesh eaters. While it’s a very long shot, EW asked about the possibility of ever seeing the Marvel Zombies run ever adapted for the big screen. Not surprisingly, Feige shot it down fairly quickly.

“I know… Zombies is such a funny thing because its such a cool comic and it’s such a cool idea, but the bigger profile becomes what starts to happen [with fans]”

More specifically, why spend years putting together one of the biggest franchises in history only to bring it to a close with what is essentially a joke. The Zombies run, which Robert Kirkman wrote, is a fun take on the characters, but there are so many other issues you run into, the first being character rights. More importantly though, is the wide array of audience that Marvel’s films have covered, from older fans to younger kids and to all of a sudden place these characters in a zombie apocalypse would alienate many of those fans. As Feige put it: “Are you going to draw figures in chalk with your 3-year-old with Hulk eating someone? Or Captain America with his brains coming out of the top of his head? Probably not.”

That being said, I think if Marvel were to tackle this series with their animation team, they may have something. Not only are the character rights issues pushed aside, you are free to do a lot more in regards to style. I’d like to say get Pixar involved, but something tells me they wouldn’t go for that. One can dream though, right?

Phew! There are your most up-to-date Phase Three plans from Marvel! Are there any of these projects that you’d like to see happen more that the others? This just proves how large of an arsenal that Marvel has to work with and it’s quite encouraging to see them getting into some of the characters and teams that I never thought would ever make it to the big screen. While some of them may never get that far, it pleases me that they are even discussing them.

The director let him ramble on and on until Oswalt finally ran out of gas. The story featured Thanos playing a pivotal role in the film that would have seen The Avengers, Dardevil, the X-Men, the Clash of the Titans franchise, and a robot Chewbacca crossing paths. The original video has well over 2 million hits, so it’s probably a safe bet that you’ve seen it. YouTuber iZacLess animated the whole pitch. It’s Patton Oswalt approved too. The actor, comedian, writer, and raconteur Tweeted about it earlier today. What do you think of the animated version?

Last month, Amazon released 14 pilot shows and wanted to hear viewers feedback on deciding which pilot to move forward with.

Co-writer/executive producer of “Zombieland,” Rhett Reese, took to twitter to announce that “Zombieland” the series is officially dead. Well – through Amazon at least. Check out Reese’ tweets below:

Our Zombieland series will not be moving forward on Amazon.Sad for everyone involved.

— Rhett Reese (@RhettReese) May 17, 2013

I’ll never understand the vehement hate the pilot received from die-hard Zombieland fans. You guys successfully hated it out of existence.

— Rhett Reese (@RhettReese) May 17, 2013

Anyway, we did our best, and we’re very proud of our team.

— Rhett Reese (@RhettReese) May 17, 2013

“Zombieland” rated a 3.7 out of 5 stars based on over 5,000 reviews. However, the lowest-rated pilot, “Browers,” rated a 3.1 and the highest-rated, “Those Who Can’t,” grabbed a 4.4 stars.

Well, personally I’m officially bummed. I highly enjoyed the pilot and was wishing it the best. I hope Rhett Reese will look for other options for “Zombieland.” Maybe even start a KickStarter, since, well, that’s what everyone else is doing these days.

The Wal-Mart Facebook page have released two new banners for Zack Synder’s Man Of Steel – featuring Zod (Michael Shannon) and Superman (Henry Cavill) in flight, preparing for battle. Surprisingly, I actually like these two banners. The posters we have gotten over the past week have been in the range of ok to pretty bad, so it’s refreshing to see something of acceptable quality. Anyway, enough of my inane ramblings, check out the banners for yourself below.

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question ‘Why am I here?’ Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.

The film stars Henry Cavill, Michael Shannon, Amy Adams, Russell Crowe, Laurence Fishburne, Kevin Costner, Diana Lane and Ayelet Zorer, Man of Steel is directed by Zack Synder (300, Watchmen) and will blast into theatres on June 14, 2013.

Dynamite can’t call it Tarzan and John Carter of Mars, but that’s what it is. The publisher announced a new miniseries set to premiere this August that will feature Tarzan and Jane Porter of the Lord of the Jungle title teaming up with John Carter and Dejah Thoris of the Warlord of Mars franchise. The series is set for six-issues from writer Arvid Nelson and illustrator Roberto Castron. The first issue will feature cover from Alex Ross, Francesco Francavilla, Dan Panosian and Ardian Syaf.

The two Edgar Rice Burroughs creations are archetypal sci-fi and jungle heroes who have been around for over a century. Nelson, who has written for both Warlord of Mars and Lord of the Jungle, talked about the draw of the project and how you don’t have to have extensive knowledge about the two comics to jump in:

It’s a great jumping-on point. In fact, I always go out of my way to make sure new readers are never at a loss, regardless of where were are in a series. [Edgar Rice] Burroughs was a fanatic for novelty. He didn’t like exploring all the details and intricacies of the things he’d invented; it was always about the shiny and new for him.

The two greatest heroes of pulp fiction coming together… what could be better than that? And it blows the lid off the possibilities for storytelling. Earth, Mars, lost civilizations, hidden worlds, interplanetary adventures. But above all, we want LORDS OF MARS to be fun. I can’t wait to unleash it on the world. Carter is more comfortable around human beings than Tarzan. He’s more of a leader, but he’s most in his element in times of conflict, as opposed to the backstabbing and intrigue of ‘peacetime.’ Tarzan is more a force of nature. In terms of raw strength and agility no one can match him, but he’s not fully in control of himself.

You can check out all the variant covers below. What do you think of Tarzan and John Carter crossing paths? Will you be checking this one out?

In LORDS OF MARS #1, the legendary Tarzan has claimed his title as Lord of Greystoke, but his very life is threatened when a hunting excursion with his fellow “gentlemen” goes disastrously wrong. Meanwhile, on Mars, John Carter is forced to respond to a veiled threat from his defeated enemies. Mars and Earth might be separated by millions of miles, but a sinister force is at work on both planets, setting the two iconic adventurers on a deadly collision course.

Long before there was an Iron Man film, or a Thor or Captain America: The First Avenger and of course before we had the box office juggernaut Avengers, Marvel Studios signed Shaun of the Dead director to oversee an adaptation of Ant-Man. The film has been gestating ever since, lost in the nothingness of development hell. But there is a reason why Wright has prolonged the film and after hearing it, I’m OK with it.

Wright, as we know, is the director of several popular geekish films, namely Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and the upcoming The World’s End, which is the final film in his “Blood and Ice Cream” trilogy with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Part of the reason for the delay on his Ant-Man project was because he wanted to finished these films first and it was his decision to do so.

“I actually made the choice to make Scott Pilgrim and The World’s End before this one. And Ant-Man is such a big special-effects film, it’s almost like the further it goes on, the easier it is to do, in a way. I feel more confident now, but I can’t talk about it too much because I get superstitious. I just feel like I don’t want to jinx it… I’ve learned a lot in the last five years, and now I’m ready to do something big and crazy. Or, I should say, small.”

I like his thinking in regards to special effects. That industry has made huge progress in the last few years, which will in turn make it easier and less expensive for him to create an Ant-Man movie that fans will enjoy. As it stands now, the film is set for a November 2015 release, the first film in Marvel’s Phase Three of their shared movie universe. Filming is expected to begin sometime next year, though it is unclear if that will happen after Avengers 2, which is slated to film in the UK next spring, wraps up, or if they will film simultaneously. Edgar Wright co-wrote the script with Joe Cornish.

You can check out a video of the awesome sizzle reel that was shown at last year’s SDCC by clicking HERE, as well as numerous screen caps. Not sure about you guys, but Ant-Man is pretty high up on my list of Marvel films after seeing that test footage. The next few years are quite promising!
