ComicConnect.com
is aggressively seeking consignments for the next Event Auction. Fresh off the
heels of selling three copies of Action
Comics #1 in so many
months, the company is offering generous cash advances up to $1,000,000 for
top-tier consignments and collections.

"This year, ComicConnect.com set the world record for the most expensive comic book ever sold at
auction with Action Comics #1 CGC 6.0, and this past June, set
the record for the most expensive Bronze
Age comic book with Green Lantern #76 CGC 9.6," said ComicConnect Chief
Operations Officer, Vincent Zurzolo. "Collectors are coming out by the
thousands to view consignor auction lots, and competitive bidding is adding up
to some very, very strong dollar figures for the site's members. I encourage
prospective sellers to visit ComicConnect's Prices
Realized Section, and contact us immediately for appraisals on CGC graded comics
they would like to sell."

ComicConnect is sister-companies with Metropolis
Collectibles, which will be set up at San
Diego International Comic Con in booths 5416/5417 against the wall near a front entrance to the exhibit
hall. They will be accepting consignments on site July 22–26, 2009 and also
buying collections and individual comics from collectors seeking an immediate
sale. Be sure to also stop by to see them at Wizard World Chicago August
6–9, 2009.

Interested customers may upload consignments online directly
through ComicConnect.com,
or inquire by calling (212) 895-3999
or emailing support@comicconnect.com.
International callers may dial 001-212-895-3999.

Metropolis Collectibles Chief Operations Officer, Vincent
Zurzolo, recently gave a presentation on investing in comics to employees of
investment banking giant Morgan Stanley, headquartered in New York City. Morgan
Stanley is a global financial services firm and a market leader in securities,
asset management and credit services.

"Being
asked to speak at Morgan Stanley was a truly humbling experience and one I
wanted to make very special for those in attendance. Over the years, many of
the super-heroes we grew up with have become pop-cultural world icons. Through
the comic books themselves, movies, merchandise, video games and
record-breaking prices being set almost daily, the general population is taking
notice of vintage comic books as an investment possibility. I wanted the
presentation to be informative and entertaining," said Zurzolo. "Basically, it
was an 'Investing in Vintage Comic Books 101' class. I talked about the history
of comics, grading, why people buy, how/where to buy and sell, and which comic
books have potential upside. I brought a selection of investment-grade comic
books and original art to show examples of the different price points, areas of
interest in the market and an analytical description of how the various pieces
performed over the last 5-10 years."

The
one and a half hour presentation was well received and included a thought provoking question and answer session.

"It
is always exciting talking about my life's passion, comic books," said Zurzolo. "The questions put forth by the Morgan Stanley employees varied from general
questions about values, to how comic books could become even more like
different types of financial tools and investments. Getting the word out about
comics as a collectible, a form of investment and a form of entertainment is
always rewarding, and I am ready to do it again."

There are still 1,900 key and high-grade CGC Graded comic books left to bid on within the ComicLink June Focused Auction. Remaining auction lots will close today and tomorrow. Bidding on all items start at $1, and every single item within this particular auction is free of any seller reserve! This auction's focus is on key and high-grade Silver, Bronze and Copper Age comic books (with some modern included for good measure). Below are just a small sample of the great items within this auction -- there are far too many highlights to list enough of them here, so we strongly suggest you review all lots carefully. Another word to the wise -- ComicLink strongly suggests that bidders figure out and submit max bids as early as possible, both in order to ensure that nothing desired is missed and to alleviate any stress on the last days of the auction.

Here is just a small sample of the highlights that are featured in this auction:

Green Lantern #76 Sells for $30,500

ComicConnect.com Sets Record for Most Expensive Bronze Age Comic Ever Sold

In March, ComicConnect.com set the world record for the most expensive comic book ever sold at auction with the sale of Action Comics #1 CGC 6.0 for $317,200. The Golden Age comic book from 1938 featured the first appearance of Superman. Last weekend, ComicConnect set another world record with the most expensive Bronze Age (1970s) comic book ever sold, realizing $30,500 for the sale of Green Lantern #76 CGC 9.6.

This landmark issue began artist Neal Adams’ historic collaboration with writer Denny O’Neil on the Green Lantern / Green Arrow stories that forever changed the face of comic books, and how the medium could tackle relevant and timely issues of social conscience and the changing times. The copy that sold is the single-most highest graded copy, and also features white pages.

Green Lantern #76 was not the only Bronze Age comic sold in the ComicConnect Event Auction to land in the 5-figure stratosphere. The highest graded copy of Detective Comics #400 (CGC 9.8) containing the first appearance of Man-Bat and also featuring the work of Neal Adams, sold for an incredible $13,534.

“En fuego! The Bronze Age 1970s comic market has come into its own, and the prices realized for Bronze material in our ComicConnect auctions are outstanding!” added ComicConnect COO, Vincent Zurzolo. “ComicConnect now holds the world records for the most expensive comic sold at auction and the most expensive Bronze Age comic sold at auction. Next up, ComicConnect wants to set the Silver Age record – and we’re taking consignments right now!”

ComicConnect is accepting consignments for their next auction - and offers up to $1,000,000 in cash advances for top-tier consignments and collections. You may upload your consignments online directly through ComicConnect.com, or inquire by calling 212-895-3999 or emailing support@comicconnect.com.
Fantastic Four #72 CGC 9.8 Fetches Eye-Popping $25,389

Marvel Silver Surfer appearance surpasses expectations on ComicConnect.com.

The 1968’s Fantastic Four #72 is a hallowed issue among collectors both for its early Silver Surfer Stan Lee story, and classic cover and art by legendary penciler Jack Kirby & inker Joe Sinnott. Predating even Silver Surfer #1, the story, entitled “Where Soars the Silver Surfer,” has always gotten a lot of love from fans. This past weekend on ComicConnect.com, the highest graded copy on the CGC census got a lot more love, fetching 29 bids and hammering at a staggering $25,389.

“The previous highest, publicly recorded sale for a Fantastic Four #72 was $1,500 in 2008 for a 9.6 NM+ copy,” stated ComicConnect CEO, Stephen Fishler. “We anticipated this higher graded 9.8 NM/MT to sell for a premium, but $25,389 exceeded many expectations, including our own.”

“Prices on high-grade Marvel Silver Age continues to race up the charts, and clearly top collectors are willing to pay top dollar to obtain the best copies,” added ComicConnect COO, Vincent Zurzolo. “When it comes to this famous issue of Fantastic Four #72, there is no equivalent or better copy known to exist.”

Comic News from Harley Yee Comics

Harley Yee Comics summer convention season is in full swing. Two weeks ago they were in Portland and last weekend they were in New York City. According to Harley Yee “the Portland show is a new one and there was a good turnout of serious collectors. As for New York, it's always exciting to visit the city and see the local collectors I've known for many years.” This weekend they are attending Heroes Con in Charlotte, North Carolina and then they are off that, to shows in Sydney and then London before returning to the United States and attending San Diego and Chicago.

Harley Yee has recently picked up many new books including an assortment of Quality titles like Crack and National, Marvel Mystery Comics, and some CGC X-Men ranging from #17 to #65. These comics are either available in his eBay store or will be soon. The eBay store now has over 5,000 of his best comics with large scans.

June Focused Auction Ends Next Week -Key and High-Grade Silver/Bronze/Copper/Modern Age

The ComicLink June Focused Auction ends next week! Bidding on all items start at $1, and every single item within this particular auction is free of any seller reserve. This auction's focus is on key and high-grade Silver, Bronze and Copper Age comic books (with some modern included for good measure). There are approximately 3,000 CGC Graded comic books to choose from. Below we introduce just a small sample of the great items within this auction -- there are far too many highlights to list enough of them here, so we strongly suggest you review all lots carefully. Another word to the wise -- we strongly suggest that bidders figure out and submit max bids as early as possible, both in order to ensure that nothing desired is missed and to alleviate any stress on the last days of the auction.

Here is just a small sample of the highlights that are featured in this auction:

What is the Definition of a Truly Rare Comic Book?

Many years ago, Ernst and Mary Gerber undertook one of the most monumental efforts ever made in preserving the history of comics. They compiled The Photo-Journal Guide to Comic Books. In these beautiful archives, the Gerbers painstakingly compiled 21,000 color reproductions of just about every Golden Age comic book cover ever published. There are very few comic books for which these diligent souls were unable to find cover images.

If you want to know the very definition of a truly rare comic book – it is one of the few Golden oldies the Gerbers could not find to feature in the Photo Journal. CATMAN COMICS #13 is one of those books, and in between Catman issues 12 and 14 in the Journal, there is only an empty white square. A rare copy of Catman Comics #13 is currently being auctioned with a $1 starting price and no reserve on ComicConnect.com. This comic is unrestored and in FN- 5.5 condition.

That is not the only rarity accepting bids right now in the June ComicConnect Event Auction. The uber-rare HARVEY COMICS LIBRARY #1, more commonly referred to as Teen-Age Dope Slaves, is up for auction in an unrestored CGC 8.5 VF+ holder, with only one copy on the CGC census ranking higher.

Or how about comics from the most hallowed of all pedigrees, the Edgar Church Collection? Don’t miss your opportunity to own Mr. Church’s STRANGE SUSPENSE STORIES (1952-65) #3 CGC 7.0! This book is currently up for grabs – and features beautiful white pages and cover artwork by George Evans.

It that doesn’t whet your appetite, how about one of the most gruesome covers in the history of comics? Check out the brutal WWII decapitation cover of this desirable Fiction House lot: FIGHT COMICS #31 CGC 5.5.

The ComicConnect Event Auction also has plenty of Bronze Age keys in high grade. For example, check out Ghost Rider’s first appearance in MARVEL SPOTLIGHT #5. This auction lot is graded CGC 9.4 NM with white pages.

As always, ComicConnect.com does not charge buyer’s premiums. Winners pay the hammer price plus shipping (and sales tax only if they live in the State of NY). The Event Auction will conclude in four separate sessions ending June 19 – 22, 2009 between 7 PM – 12 AM EDT.

The auction is online. For assistance creating an account or questions about bidding, email support@comicconnnect.com or call 212-895-3999. For international callers, dial 001-212-895-3999.

Incredible Bronze Age Marvel Consignment on PedigreeComics.com -All 9.8 White pages

This amazing consignment of almost 100 NM/M, white-paged Bronze Age Marvels comes from the private holding of noted CGC 9.8 and higher collector John Adams ("scheradon" on the CGC boards) and is one of the nicest mid-late 1970's/early 1980's collections you will ever see. As many CGC board members know, John is a very picky collector who only buys the very best available comics, concentrating on esoteric Bronze Age Marvel titles in CGC certified 9.8 and higher. According to Pedigree Comics' CEO and President Doug Schmell, "these books are simply incredible. They're all perfectly cut, flat, glossy and obviously unread. It took a serious labor of love for a person to wait to buy the most perfect copy he/she could, and that is what John did. Almost every single book in the consignment is the highest certified and finest existing example of that issue".

Included in the consignment are the top CGC Registry sets of Iceman, Omega the Unknown, Spider-Woman and Tarzan plus other incredible sets (Eternals, Human Fly, Machine Man, Red Sonja, Star Trek and more). There are a bunch of Winnipeg pedigree copies in the consignment, 13 in total. Again, every book is at least 9.8 (there's a 10.0 in there!) and every book has white pages. For you late Silver Age guys, there's even a Doctor Strange #169 (yes, 9.8 with white pages). Other titles include Devil Dinosaur, John Carter, Warlord of Mars, Kull the Conqueror, Kull the Destroyer, Nova, Spectacular Spider-Man and Web of Spider-Man.

The listing (10 books each day or night) starts on Friday afternoon, June 12, 2009 in the New Arrivals section of the Pedigree Comics Web site (www.PedigreeComics.com) and continues into the weekend and the following week and weekend. Please check the site every day for any new updates and information.

Pedigree Comics is currently accepting new items for their Web site and continues to set new records for Silver, Bronze and Copper Age Marvels. Please contact Mr. Schmell at 561-422-1120 or 561-596-9111 or email him at DougSchmell@pedigreecomics.com for any questions, comments or information about the consigning process. They only charge 10% commission for their services and will maximize your profit. Pedigree has over 15,000 registered customers ready to bid on and purchase your high grade books.

Prospective consignors can also upload their own scans, item information, descriptions and reserve amounts for the Grand Auctions by utilizing the Automated Consignment System. It is actually very easy and fun to do. Just register onto the site, click "Customer Page" under "Your Account" and then click "Consignments". You will then be able to enter the Pedigree Comics Consignment Management System and upload your own CGC certified books and magazines. Pedigree Comics will receive an email automatically once you have uploaded the information and they will then review the information imparted for accuracy. The item(s) will then be added to the front of the New Arrivals section of the site to be bid on.
