Character Spotlight Friday!! - Sentry

Empowered by the enigmatic Professor's secret formula, high school student Robert Reynolds became a superhuman. After trouncing the school bully who had tormented him, Reynolds sewed together a costume and made his debut as the heroic Sentry. One of very few super heroes active during the years just prior to the Fantastic Four's emergence, Sentry gained new importance when the new wave of heroes rose to prominence. Almost instantly deducing Spider-Man's secret identity, Sentry became a role model for the young hero, as well as an ally to the X-Men, an equal to Reed Richards and a friend to the outcast Hulk. The Sentry even battled Dr. Doom alongside the Fantastic Four and defeated his greatest enemy, the General, with the X-Men's aid.

During this period, the Sentry married the love of his life, Lindy, and took the young Scout as his sidekick; but the arrival of the Void, a shadowy monster that exploited its enemy's greatest fears, ended the Sentry's charmed life. The Void nearly killed Scout, drove Hulk into a rampage, and murdered over one million people in Manhattan. Discovering that the Void had been the dark aspect of his own powers, the Sentry teamed with Reed Richards and Dr. Strange to create a system which made Earth's entire population, themselves included, forget all about the Sentry. With the Sentry inactive and forgotten, the Void vanished.

The Sentry's abilities derive from an experimental serum that creates a phase-shift in his molecules, causing each atom to step an instant ahead of the current time line. The serum induces a photosynthetic reaction, resulting in a hyper state of consciousness. Though most of his powers and their limits are still unknown, examples he has demonstrated so far are super-strength, super-speed, invulnerability, and flight.

Talk to the hand Batman, 'cause Iron Man can't hear you!!!

The Hatfields and the McCoys. The Yankees and the Red Sox. Jennifer and Angelina. When it comes to a long-running feud, people choose their side and they defend it to the end. For comic book fanatics, it's always been the divide between the two major publishers -- Marvel and DC Comics. Devoted readers on both sides have argued for years over which was better: DC, with it's stable of classic heroes like Superman and Wonder Woman, or Marvel, which has always prided itself on more flawed characters like Spider-Man and The Incredible Hulk.

Leave it to Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. to stir up the hornet's nest again. After his movie opened huge in early May, it looked like Marvel's steel-plated superhero was destined to be the box office champ of the summer. Until, of course, The Dark Knight broke records with its gargantuan July debut, making DC's Caped Crusader the season's richest crimefighter.

In an interview with moviehole.net, Robert Downey Jr. shared his thoughts on the complex story of "The Dark Knight," and he left no doubt where his comic book loyalties lie:

• The Skrull Queen has taken the form of Jessica Drew, the former New Avenger and current Mighty Avenger known as Spider Woman. Using Jessica's ties to both Avenger teams and to S.H.I.E.L.D. and the terrorist group called Hydra, the Queen has taken a direct role in the Invasion of Earth. She has manipulated the heroes and S.H.I.E.L.D. into the perfect position for the attack.

• When did the Queen replace Spider Woman? For how long has she been manipulating Earth's heroes? And what exactly has she done? No one knows...until now...

NEW AVENGERS #42

SYNOPSIS ASSEMBLE!
• It all started when Colonel Nick Fury, acting director of S.H.I.E.L.D., advised Jessica Drew to agree to work with the terrorist group called Hydra. They had offered to return the powers that she once wielded as Spider Woman, but that were now lost. Fury wanted her to seemingly work for Hydra, all the while still remaining loyal to S.H.I.E.L.D.

THAT'S AN ORDER

• What neither of them knew, was that the Skrulls had already infiltrated Hydra, and once they had put Jessica under, they replaced her with their own Queen. Undergoing a strange ritual, the Queen took on the persona of Jessica Drew...

THE LIFE AND TIMES OF SPIDER WOMAN

• The Queen then resumes Jessica's role as an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. She meets with other Skrull infiltrators to discuss their plans. They have three goals that they want to accomplish. They hope to use subterfuge and misdirection to destroy the Vibranium mines of Wakanda and the Savage Land, whittle down the growing mutant population by inducing a race war between mutants and humans, and to destabilize the super powered population.

• The Queen, acting as Jessica, is present on the Raft the day of the breakout that brought the New Avengers together. It turns out that it was the Skrulls that hired Electro to cause the breakout, hoping simply to unleash a number of super powered criminals back into the world. Once several heroes arrived to deal with the crisis, and "Jessica" joined them in battle, a much more grand opportunity came about...

THE NEW AVENGERS

• Captain America asks her to join a new group of Avengers, along with the other heroes who were present at the Raft breakout. She consults one of the other Skrull imposters, this one disguised as Hank Pym, and they conclude that she should join the team, that it is a great opportunity for their cause.

• She also consults Madame Hydra about joining the team. Of course, Hydra leaps at the opportunity to have a person inside the Avengers.

MADAME HYDRA

• She also confronts the new Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Maria Hill. Hill knows that Spider Woman has recently met with Madame Hydra, and she lets Drew know that she doesn't trust her. The Queen uses her disguise to further Hill's mistrust of the Avengers, setting her up as the patsy to take the fall once all is said and done.

DIRECTOR HILL

• It's then that "Pym" informs her of the fact that the Avengers and X-Men have grouped together to head to Genosha to deal with the problem of Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch. As Jessica, the Queen accompanies the heroes only to be present when the world goes white...and the House of M begins...

• The Skrull Invasion has begun. Hoping to take Earth as their new throne world, the Skrulls have infiltrated every major organization on Earth, including S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers.

• While examining the body of the Skrull disguised as Elektra, whose discovery was the first hint that there was an Invasion happening, Reed Richards manages to figure out how the Skrulls are remaining undetected. As soon as he figures this out however, Hank Pym, founding Avenger and architect of the 50 State Initiative, reveals himself to be a Skrull and blasts Richards with an energy pistol.

• It seems that "Pym" has been working to further the Skrull Invasion for some time...but for how long, we have no idea...until now...

MIGHTY AVENGERS #15

SYNOPSIS ASSEMBLE!
• After the Scarlet Witch went mad and caused the original Avengers to disband, Hank went off to England to focus on his research. He was accompanied by his ex-wife, Janet Van Dyne, the Avengers known as the Wasp, hoping to salvage their relationship. Things did not go as planned... THE BREAK-UP

• After she left, Hank started seeing a student at the university where he was doing his research. She seemed interested in everything about him, both his scientific work and his life as an Avenger. When the New Avengers formed during the breakout at the Raft, the young woman asked Hank if it meant that he would be returning to America. He explained that he was happy to see the Avengers get back together, but that he would not be returning to the team.

• One night, she asks Pym about the Kree-Skrull War. Pym explains that the Kree are a noble race and that the Skrulls are a race of deceiving monsters. The girl seems to grow agitated with his response, and says that he should fear the Skrulls if they can walk amongst humans undetected. Pym dismisses that, pointing out that Reed Richards long ago figured out how to reveal a Skrull’s true form, and that Earth’s heroes have defeated them every time they have tried anything. She points out how arrogant that view is... and then reveals herself to be a Skrull in disguise...

SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY

• The Skrull, possessing Super Skrull abilities that mimic those of Earth’s heroes, quickly dispatches Pym, as easily as...

SQUASHING A BUG

• After the confrontation, with Pym lying in a pool of blood on the floor, there is a knock on the door. The Skrull reverts to her innocent human form and answers the door to find it is Janet Van Dyne. Shocked at the age of the girl that her ex is obviously seeing, Janet tells the girl to find someone better and storms off, leaving the Skrull to smile in triumph.

• The Skrull then takes on Pym’s form in a strange ritual that seems tied to the Skrulls’ newfound ability to go undetected and to understand the thoughts and feelings of those they impersonate... METAMORPHOSIS

• And so, months later, during the Civil War and everything else that happened, it was actually a Skrull imposter acting as Pym.

• When Ultron attacked New York City and the Avengers called on Pym to help, the Skrull used its knowledge to help save the day.

THE ULTRON CRISIS

• What it also learned during that conflict was that Ultron managed to take Iron Man out because his armor had merged with his body, becoming biological in nature. This was exactly what the Skrulls were hoping for...

St. John Allerdyce was originally a money-hungry young man who drifted from job to job around the South Seas before eventually becoming a journalist for an Australian wire service as well as a popular, if not critically acclaimed, Gothic romance novelist. Allerdyce eventually met the shape-shifting mutant terrorist Mystique and was recruited into her terrorist group, the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, as Pyro. The Brotherhood’s first public appearance was an attempt to assassinate outspoken anti-mutant activist Senator Robert Kelly, but they were defeated by the team of mutant adventurers the X-Men.

After tiring of being hunted as outlaws, Mystique offered the Brotherhood’s services to the U.S. Government and so they became the government-sponsored Freedom Force team. On their first official mission, they were sent to arrest the self-styled mutant master of magnetism, Magneto. The government ultimately disbanded Freedom Force after a disastrous mission in the Middle East during which they battled the Arabic super-team Desert Sword. Pyro and his teammate the Blob were captured by the Iraqi military and forced to serve as personal bodyguards to the Iraqi commander until the acrobatic mutant Toad bartered for their freedom and they joined his new incarnation of the Brotherhood.

Pyro was a mutant with the psionic ability to cause any fire he could see within a 100-yard radius of himself to grow in size and intensity and to take on any form that he could imagine, even living creatures. Pyro could then mentally direct a creation to do anything he wished by concentrating, the degree necessary being directly proportionate to the size, power, and intensity of the creation. Pyro was unable to create fire himself.

Character Spotlight Friday!! - Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew)

Jessica Drew is the daughter of Jonathan Drew, research partner to Dr. Herbert Edgar Wyndham. When young Jessica suffered uranium poisoning in 1931, Dr. Drew was forced to inject her with his untested spider serum and seal her in a genetic accelerator.

In stasis for decades, her aging greatly slowed, she awoke with no memories of her own past. Briefly cared for by the Evolutionary's cow-woman assistant Bova, Jessica sought human company in a nearby village where she accidentally killed her first lover with her new bioelectric powers.

Fleeing a vengeful mob, she was rescued by Count Otto Vermis, who molded her into the terrorist organization Hydra's newest assassin. As Arachne, she fought S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury, who revealed Vermis as a cold-blooded killer.

Jessica eventually moved to Los Angeles where she worked as a bounty hunter alongside Scotty McDowell before Nick Fury helped her secure private investigator credentials.

Jessica possesses superhuman strength (can lift at least up to 7 tons), endurance and speed. She can focus her bioelectric energy into "venom blasts" sufficient to stun or kill normal humans, and she can also adhere to almost any surface.

Jessica rapidly forms an immunity to all poisons and drugs, and is totally immune to radiation. Her metabolism generates pheromones which attract human males while repulsing females, though she uses a chemical "perfume" that can nullify this effect. Jessica has lost and regained her powers more than once, but has recently emerged with her powers restored greater than ever.

Since today is the release of his second instalment who is HellBoy??

Here is his origin:

What started as a means to start Armageddon turned into Earth’s salvation. The Nazi’s were working on a secret program called Ragna-Rok that delved into the occult to seek power that would help them win WWII. Aiding the Nazi’s was a sorcerer named Rasputin, whose true desire was to use the demon summoned to destroy all life on planet Earth.
Opposing them were a group of American Rangers who were being aided by Professor Trevor Bruttenholm, a professor at Blackfriar University. When something went wrong with the summoning which was taking place in Scotland, a small demon-like boy appeared in East Bromwich, England. The Rangers and particularly Professor Bruttenholm took the small boy in, and dubbed him “Hellboy.” The name stuck, and has lived with him to this day.

Hellboy was taken and raised in America in secret, by the organization that would become the B.P.R.D. During that time, Hellboy grew to become healthy, tough, strong, and dedicated to the cause of protecting Earth from paranormal harm by becoming the B.P.R.D.’s top field agent. He quickly grew in reputation amongst the bureau as the go to guy when things went wrong. His exploits became well known in the world and he has been welcomed by humanity as a great asset to our world

It turns out that Hellboy was summoned by Rasputin because of the power he has in his hand. His hand at one time belonged to a great spirit, who was destroyed when it created and tried to bound a dragon named Odgru Jahad by other spirits that were enraged by its actions. Hellboy’s hand held the key to unlocking the prison that held Odgru Jahad and could unleash him on the Earth, ending all life as we know it. Hellboy resists these destinies laid down for him by others, instead choosing to seek his own path.

He may have came from hell but, remember even the Devil fears God! HellBoy was raised by a Christian "Catholic" father and knows right from wrong and fights for the good of mankind. BOOYA!
