Movie Review: 2 Headed Shark Attack.
Okay, I lied. This isn't a movie review.   I wish that I could do a review, but I have been banned from renting the movie. Even when there is nothing else on TV or PPV, I have been told that I could not spend the $6 of such a preordained classic.

Yes, yes. I have tried to explain the significance of "2 HEADS 1 SHARK"; however, Jamie does not seem to grasp the sheer brilliant concept behind the movie.

I already know what I am renting, as it is akin to the now classic, "Sharktopus".

For those of you who have not seen the trailer and/or realize the classic concept behind the movie, I would recommend you take a moment to watch and enjoy.   If you happen to rent the movie, please do not rub it in.

Quick Post On The Avengers Movie Part II

A question came in on the original post. I'll paraphrase: "Do I need to see any of the previous films to enjoy The Avengers?".

I would suggest seeing Thor. Loki is the main villain and Thor is really the setup for The Avengers. Thor sets up Loki's motivation for his actions in The Avengers. With that said, if you haven't seen Thor, they explain enough to bring you up to speed.

The Ed Norton Incredible Hulk is referenced, but if you've ever seen an episode of the show or red any issues of The Incredible Hulk, you're good. The one line that definitely ties it into the continuity is one about what Hulk did to Harlem.

As for Captain America, it's technically the lead in, but all you really need to know is that he is a government created super soldier that the government hasn't been able to replicate and he was frozen for 70ish years.

If you haven't seen one Iron Man film, you'd be fine. They're barely referenced and what references there are are explained.

Quick Post On The Avengers Movie

If you haven't seen The Avengers (aka Avengers Assemble) yet. Run, don't walk, to the nearest theater and see it.

You won't gain much by watching it in 3D, but I would love to have seen it in IMAX. The Helicarrier scenes (most of the film) and the final battle scene all look like they were really meant to be seen in IMAX.

The only aspect that took me out of the film was that they had Scarlett Johansson's best assets featured on the screen every chance they could. I'm not complaining, but it pulled me out of the story a couple of times.

Mark Ruffalo, as much as I don't really like him, brought his A Game and killed it as Bruce Banner. I am actually looking forward to him playing Banner in further Avengers and Hulk films. Really, really good job.

It was Robert Downey, Jr., as Tony Stark/Iron Man who "stole the show", except he didn't have to. It was his show to own.

It is a little long at 2:20, so be sure to hit the restroom before the previews. And it is a Marvel movie, so you will need to sit through the credits. There are two extra scenes. The first is after the flashy, pretty credits and the second is after the complete, boring credits. The second one doesn't add much to the story or continuity...and yet it says a lot about what was going on.

My wife, my 8 year old daughter, my 5 year old son, and I all loved it for a variety of reasons.

Green Lantern Animated Series - Statues

Following up with a previous post, I thought I would give you a glimpse of the statues coming out of the Green Lantern: Animated Series. Now that I am enjoying the series, I'm actually considering adding a couple of these to my collection. (Still not a fan of the Hal Jordan statue. Though, I will give it a second look after this post.)

Each statue is running around $125, which is not that bad for a statue, and they are using different sculptors for various pieces. Take a look at Atrocitus and Saint Walker. Before the series, I had seen the Atrocitus statue and had considered putting in an order. Now that I know there will be an ENTIRE collection of these characters, you just never know. Definitely some "Hot Buys".

What's On Now!

I really didn't extrapolate that much on my April 7th blog, so I thought that I would provide you with a bit more information.

Season 2 of "Game of Thrones". Do I really need to explain this one?
"Big Bang Theory" Reruns. This is primarily Jamie's doing. He is trying to catch up on a series that I have enjoyed for years. By the way, how many of you try to spot cool items in the apartment or comic book store?
"Young Justice". When this first started, it didn't grab my attention, but with the "Green Lantern: Animated Series" lead in, I'm starting to watch some of the new episodes. Another question: Have you seen the trailers for the new Batman animated series?

A host of new summer seasons are about to start, and I can't wait to "sink my teeth" into some of those.

Yes, it's a vampire reference, and I'm not really that keen on vampires. However, I did get to use the word "keen."

I bought "Justice League Doom", which deserves a short discussion at a later date, and I saw a trailer for this game. As I had fallen behind the times in my geekiness, I had missed this one; however, that doesn't make it any less FUNNY!
Mixed reviews for the demo, but here's hoping to that they addressed the negative reviews.

If it weren't sheer beauty of this piece, the price of it would have kept me from mentioning anything about it. Over 2.5 Feet tall, Sideshow did not pull their punches.

Points in Favor

Look at the details. If you jump over to their gallery, you can see the scratch marks on the mask and sholder pads.
Paint job is beautiful.
Fabric costume is going to add some realism to the piece.
Love the gloves.

Points Against

Something about the face. As hairy as Wolverine is, I think there should have been some scruff.
The price.

Recommendation. Neutral. If I could afford it, I would most definitely get it, but as I can't, I shan't. In other words, if you can cut back on your other collectibles for a year, go for this one.

Zimm's Two CentsI was really hoping for the best on this entire series, but after really looking at the Hal Jordan and Sinestro, I kindof gave up hope. I realized that I would not be lining several shelves with a collection of interglactic ring barriers.

Lucky for me, Larfleeze carries the whole lantern with him instead of a ring.

Points in Favor

Great colors. The orange looks to be the perfect shine. It contrasts nicely with the white, black and Larfleeze's skin tone.
Great piece of sculting. I actually like this rendition of Larfleeze.
He's holding the Lantern like he means it!
Always thought the base for this series was a good idea.

Points Against

Is anyone really going to know who the hell Larfleeze is when they are glancing over your collection?

Recommendation. Buy. Even though I am not going to buy the entire series, this one is a statue that I would definitely put in a visitor viewable spot

I had thought that these things would be stupid and/or a sheer waste of my money; however, I was wrong! I was actually thinking that they would make some great gifts. I was hoping to do the entire Justice League with some other characters, but I can do it with these instead! I'm only showing Batman, but go look at all of them.

H2: Ancient Aliens

It is another season of Ancient Aliens on the History Channel.

Actually, it is on H2, but I digress.

It is another season of Ancient Aliens on the History Channel, and we have started off with a bang. Nazi and Cult connections, OH MY!

Jamie views the series as History Channel's attempt to find another use for all of their videos and pictures. Same documentary, but with ALIENS!

I corrected him, "Aliens and Giorgio!"

The show would be nothing without Giorgio and the height of his hair. At first, I was a tad bit worried that he was gone, as I did not see him in the Nazi Aliens episode. But alas, he was there next week for the Aztec Indians.

"Ancient Aliens and Giorgio. Only on H2!"

All Hail, Diet Mountain Dew Supernova!

The almighty, all-knowing, all-powerful gods of Mountain Dew have deemed the earth worthy and given back to us the sweet nectar of Diet Mountain Dew Supernova. Praise your infinite wisdom and kindness.   Your generosity will be sung in the songs of legends!

Alas, I am not certain that I am as noble or sharing an individual as Mountain Dew. As I saw the nectar, I then bought every last bottle for myself.

But, I did not stop there.

I then quickly grabbed a cart and emptied all of the 12 packs off of the shelves. I hoarded them all for myself! (Less the gods of Mountain Dew deem to take the nectar away again.)

Or is it a quest?! Am I meant to drive to every store in my surrounding area and buy what little is shared. The last time that Supernova was given to us, it was taken away. When I last saw it slowly dwindling away, I quickly bought every last drop for myself.   Should I not do it again?

Mayhap, I should watch the new series "Doomsday Preppers" and learn something from them. For if the world were to come to an end, this sweet ever so pleasant nectar, Diet Mountain Dew Supernova, would be worth millions!

Oh my precious. My sweet, sweet precious. I will share you with no one.

Entertainment Earth Catalogue

I have to admit it. I hate it, but I have to admit it.

I love receiving this catalogue in the mail! Ever time I get it, I want to post several blogs, buy several items, and flip through it time and time again.

Even my partner (a non-geek) loves to go through it. (He is looking for an "I Love Lucy" bobblehead set. Please, please don't let them make one.)

I literally found enough items to fill the entire month; however, that would be cheating. Sooooo, instead of trying to point all of the items out to you, I'm going to recommend that you register to receive their free catalogue. If nothing else, you can drool over every item; however, if you are like me, it is the home to new toys and gifts.

Houston: Comicpalooza

Okay, I owe Comicpalooza an apology. I attended their convention 2 years ago, attempted to compare them to Dragoncon, and was a tad bit critical.

Why am I so excited about going back then?

It definitely wasn't the gun convention going on at the same time.

It was the fact that I did have some fun. It was a good convention, and above all things, I wanted my brother and sister-in-law to have a good time. I was nervous, which turned out to be a bit unfounded.

It was a good convention, and my brother has been asking me for the last two years if I would like to go again. (He still has issues with the whole "I'm a Geek, and I'm Proud!")

In all honesty, they will probably rub my face in the fact that I was oh-so-wrong. All I am hoping for is a tad bit more "Steampunk." I really want him and my best friend, Pat (who I am trying to drag along) to see what Steampunk is all about.

What I'm Watching This Month

Plenty of new geek shows to wrap your mind around, but in my opinion, not all of them are worth the trouble. Here are a few:

The Fades, on BBC, actually got off to a good start. Slightly different take on the horror aspect and actually went with ghosts who eat people and become zombish. Giving it a chance
Lost Girl, on Syfy - I've only seen the first episode. The ads for the other shows have turned me off. I will probably force myself through another episode or two. DVR a few more trys.
Being Human - Syfy American Version - is actually picking up some speed. The more they move away from the BBC version, the more I am enjoying it.
Game of Thrones - HBO - Isn't on right now. I just wanted to mention that I miss it.
Grimm - My brother is watching it. I've given it a few tries. May try to DVR it again. Same holds true for Once Upon a Time.
Face Off - on Syfy - isn't anything spectacular, but I'm watching it. Amazing work.
Top Chef: Texas, on Bravo, is another round of fairly decent chefs; however, being originally from Texas, I am enjoying this one. Usually have to catch this on one a rerun, I am usually watching Middle as a buildup to Modern Family.

I know that there are a few others, but it is a tad early for me to try to think of all of them. Recommendations are highlighted.

Over the last year both my comics and statues have fallen to the side. Yes, I've picked up a few, but they haven't been a primary focus on mine.

Much sadness. :(

However, I did pick up a couple of other things - one of them being a Steampunk walking stick. Here is a pick of it. I've seen some other real cool ones, but this one fits my characters.

I've been away for a while, but last year was a really tough year. Consulting, family loss, and then some personal bumps here and there. If you were to say all of this to me, I would simply define them as "excuses." But writing for a blog on a regular basis can get a tad tough. I was originally trying to do a blog a day. I think that I am going to focus on a minimum of a blog a week.

With my new job and a far more work/live balance, you can expect to see me contributing again.

I’m a huge Hank Pym fan. I hate the way he has been vilified and reviled over the years. Jan has forgiven him why can’t Bendis? I was even willing to accept that he had developed a multiple personality and the Yellowjacket persona was responsible for him striking The Wasp. My favorite of his guises was Dr. Pym, Adventurer. I really liked Rover his AI flying vehicle. He kept a gillion inventions and gizmos in his pockets and somehow, amazingly, he never lost any of them.

Points in Favor

The colors are really good. Bowen has been doing a much better job of attaining the texture feel without making the colors splotchy for a while now.
Classic pose.
I like the goggles.

Points Against

The base is bland.
I’d have like a smaller Yellowjacket on there too that was flying or a companion mini Wasp flying around him.

Recommendation: HOT BUY! Yellowjacket is one of the most controversial characters from Marvel Comics ever. It’s especially interesting that the whole thing about him abusing his wife, The Wasp, seems to have been the result of a misunderstanding between the writer (Jim Shooter) and the artist (Bob Hall). This is one of the few male yellow costumes that makes sense and looks good. Wolverine, not so much.
