John Carter come to theaters in March......

2011-07-16T10:19:00.000-08:00

John Carter, is a 19th century civil war vet who gets transported to Mars, in the middle of a civil war there. Now get this, he was created by Edgar Rice Borroughs in 1911 as a character in a book called "A Princess of Mars". This boy has been around a long time.
The movie is directed by Andrew Stanton, who has primarily contributed to films by Pixar/Disney movies like Toy Story 3, Wall-E and so forth.
The pics I have seen for the movie have been awesome, I suggest you check out the trailer on the official movie site that Disney has up.
John Carter is a classic that has lasted throughout time.
I'll post more on this soon.
Thanks.

Green Lantern Emerald Knights; DC animated movie

2011-06-12T17:36:00.000-08:00

This was a pretty good watch, it gives you some of the history of a few of the Green Lanterns. If you're unfamiliar with the Corps and are going to see the movie next week, I highly recommend it. Also, the special features provide some insight in to the current state of the book in the DC universe. Geoff Johns has done an incredible job, nothing short of miraculous, of bringing the Green Lantern Corps to the fore of the DC universe, with Hal Jordan as it's focal point. So check it out, and let me know what you think.
For you Batman fans, there's a feature of Batman Year One for release this summer. That's right, the Frank Miller mini-series that changed the way we looked at the Batman.

X-men First Class.....My thoughts

2011-06-03T03:15:00.000-08:00

Well, just got out of the theater. It's 2:53am, Friday morning the 2nd of June. This was the second release by Marvel Entertainment this year. Soon Captain America will be out. From DC, we have Green Lantern. I think that's a record for the Comic crowd.

Anyway, this movie was pretty good. Like a new start. The main story takes place in 1962. The same year the franchise was launched by Marvel way back in the year. Thus keeping with the ages of the characters that were in the first X-men movie released in 2000.

I loved the scene with Hugh Jackman, a cameo appearance, when Charles and Erik are out recruiting. You'll get a laugh out of that one, I know I did.

For those of us around most of that time, there are some differences, Moria working for the CIA, and not a driven geneticist who worked with Charles and Erik, and also mother to an omega class mutant known as Proteus, Pixie, who wasn't introduced till decades later, Havok, who wasn't found till after Scott(Cyclops) was recruited in the 60's. Darwin, another early arrival. Banshee, a mere child, was also on the same age level as Charles and Magneto, but working for the Irish Government. A few differences, but a good story, none the less. We get to see Beasts transformation in his current blue furry version, which didn't take place until the 70's in Tales to Astonish, if I remember correctly. We also get to see an early version designed by Henry McCoy.....not Professor X and Magneto as alluded to in the first movies.. We also get to see glimpses of Storm and other mutants when the Professor goes tripping through cyber space with Cerebro, locating all the mutants in one sitting, or so it seems.

But this is a new age and new generation. Overall a very well done movie, quite entertaining and worth the fare. The euphoria of new mutants discovering their powers carried over well. And the growth of Magneto into his power was well done. He was shaped by events in his life, and don't get me wrong, but He was right about the fear of mutants, or any group different from the mainstream taking a lead part in how they would be treated by flat scans.
Go see it and enjoy, and don't be overly critical of all the changes from the Marvel Universe in print.

Captain America the First Avenger toys are out!

2011-05-28T06:56:00.000-08:00

The toys are out, and if you're a collector or just a fan, they are pretty awesome. The hardest to find right now are the Red Skull and Cross Bones. Go figure, huh. There are also some other types with Cap and equipment for different missions. Got mine at WalMart this past week. So check them out.

War of the Green Lanterns part 9

2011-05-28T06:36:00.001-08:00

Well, with the movie coming out and all in a few weeks, I thought I should be on here a little more often. The war of the Green Lanterns had 3 parts come out this past week in the GL family of books, with 1 more part till the conclusion in Green Lantern #87. Krona was about to take over the Green Lantern corps with all the emotional spectrums using all of the earthly green lanterns. Cause they got the emotional stuff to care, unlike the Guardians of OA. So, Kudos to Krona for seeing that far, but his methods leave a little to be desired by the more morally sensitive.

Anyway, hope your planning on seeing the movie. It looks really good based on the trailers I've seen thus far.

Thor, The Mighty Avenger is out

2011-05-06T02:35:00.000-08:00

Well, the movie is finally out. Went and saw the Imax 3D version of it. I would go see it again, there is a lot to see. A lot of background in this movie and a lot of differences from the Marvel Mythos, and similarities as well, of course. Jane Foster is a physicist, Volstag is not as big in girth as I would have liked to have seen him. Donald Blake is a still a doctor, but Jane Foster's x-boyfriend, not the alter ego of Thor.
But enough of that. A good movie overall. The effects were good, especially the Destroyer. Bifrost bridge was also shattered, separating the realm of the gods from the mortal plane.
Definitely go see it. In the cut scene at the end of the credits, SPOILER ALERT, they set up the Avengers movie. And as in the comic version, Loki will be the cause of their combining forces.
Go see it, you'll like it, promise.

"Fear Itself" has begun! I

2011-04-12T04:03:00.000-08:00

At first, I said, Oh no, not another one. But after reading the first issue, I really enjoyed it. I like how they tied it in with Hitler's search for arcane artifacts pertaining to the Norse mythology. Which, by the way, should have given me my first clue it was going to be tied into Thor. Also, the continuity of it is excellent, with the demise of the main villains in Thor itself.
I don't want to give too much away. But, as with all major tie-ins, and I hope they don't do this too much, there will be titles that will be promoted with it that aren't in the top selling tiers of the Marvel Universe. And if they are, could they please have major storyline ties, and not just "filler" material? We shall see. But the main title book itself should be awesome.
The main villains are anti-thesis of the Norse mythology, if you haven't read it yet.

It's 4 am, and time to go to work. Have a good one everybody!

"Fear Itself" has begun!

2011-04-12T03:51:00.000-08:00

The Home Front is a book of stories related to the events outside of Broxton, but not directly. It's kind of a fun read, but read it second so you don't spoil the ending of the main title itself. I'll say more about that in a minute.

Check out the new 4 min.s of The Green Lantern Movie coming out

Age of X universe

2011-04-02T19:22:00.000-08:00

WOW! That's all I gotta say. I really loved this story. The background info and story telling is great. Must read. Told from the perspective of personalities absorbed by Legacy(Rogue). Great alternative universe. One more issue to go.

"Thor" movie toys out there......

2011-04-01T08:26:00.001-08:00

Need a hammer? Well you should get the new "Thor" hammer so you could yield it with authority. Yes, the new toys are out for the upcoming moving. I was in Wal-Mart yesterday and spied them on a display separate from the hanging ones. YES, I like the toys too. There are some pretty cool ones, if I do say so myself. If you're out there, look for the Odin figure in gold... That one seems to be the one to look for, as it is the variant of that character and will also become one of the most sought after ones. I've seen it posted on eBay from $30.00 and up already. Happy toy hunting. Rob

"The Adjustment Bureau".........nothing like "Dark City"

2011-04-01T08:17:00.000-08:00

"The Adjustment Bureau".....released a while ago, and just went to see it yesterday. This is the ultimate chick flick with Sci-fi tied in. So guys if you want to take your girlfriends to see a movie you'll both enjoy, this one is it. Now, with the behind the scenes manipulation, I thought it may end up being something akin to "Dark City". But, it is nothing like that. A plan for everything and everyone is kept on track by a higher power, The Adjustment Bureau. A bureaucracy of beings who make slight adjustments to peoples live to keep them on track with the "plan" as written by the "Chairman" of the bureau. The plan is not flawless and can be rewritten. So the major theme to me was, True love conquers all" Notice the hat in the picture, it plays an important role, if you haven't seen it yet, take your date and go see it. Plenty of action, not the blow them up kind, for you and plenty of chick moments for your date. You'll like it.

"Paul".........a funny little alien

2011-04-01T08:07:00.000-08:00

Have you seen it yet? You should, this is Paul, the alien with a good attitude. In the slew of alien invasions out there, such as "Skyline" and "Battle L.A."(which I've seen both and enjoyed as well), this one has it's funny moments, and more importantly gives geeks every where hope, that a beautiful woman can fall for you. Yes, sci-fi and a chick flick as well. Lots of humor and good effects to watch.
Two boys from across the pond have a grand adventure when they run into Paul, who is trying to get home after decades of study. So go see it and watch the antics of these three adventurers on a quest to see Paul home.

Sucker Punch.........left with questions......is that good or bad?

2011-04-01T07:53:00.000-08:00

"Sucker Punch".........I've seen a couple of statements that this was Snyder's worst. But I don't think so. He leaves you with a lot of unanswered questions. This movie is about delusions. It's interesting how he takes you 2 levels into a girl's psyche. Was this a shared delusion?? Were the girls psychically linked and went through the same thing to accomplish the goal? Are there more of them out there who can do this? Or, did anyone actually escape? The ending scene was in color in a seemingly normal world, but the bus driver was the "spirit guide".
My favorite 2nd level fantasy was the one with the Dragon. Then the WW1, and then the battle with the three warlords in the courtyard.
Now, reality was shades of gray, 1st level delusion was a normal seeming world but in color. The 2nd level delusion, color and in a sci-fi fantasy world. I would have liked to see more of how it translated to the real (gray) world, but that may have been a bit graphic, given the nature of the "dance". If you haven't saw it, go see it. I won't give too much away here, yet.

NBC to reboot Wonder Woman

Entertainment Weekly has an exclusive look at the new Wonder Woman to be played by Adrianne Palicki. To see the rest of this "stunning" photo go to EW.com and check it out. Oh yeah, and don't forget to read the article that goes with it. I haven't heard enough about this yet to form an opinion. It's a wait and see, for me.

Conan the Barbarian to be released........

2011-03-15T18:19:00.000-08:00

August 19th, 2011. Starring the big guy from Stargate Atlantis, at least that's how I know him, Jason Momoa.
The movie is directed by Marcus Nispel, who directed The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Pathfinder, and Friday the 13th(2009). Also has Ron Perlman in it, that's a plus in my book. The visual and art supervisors have worked on a host of good movies over the years, too many to mention. So this should be an entertaining movie. Let's wait and see if they can do justice to Robert E. Howard's iconic creation.
