You’ll have to visit your JS-Kit settings and enable the field but don’t worry, if you don’t like changing settings or are just a little bit scared of messing things up, the code should take care of it for you by adding a field to use for the CommentLuv fetching if it can’t see one on the form.

You can enable the field on your JS-Kit form by clicking the “powered by jskit” link at the bottom of the comment entry form on your site….

And then click the box near the bottom marked “Allow URL field in ‘leave a comment’ “…

..And that should take care of it for you! The CommentLuv plugin code has been updated across the whole system and is live already so even if you don’t change anything, you should be able to carry on as usual…. until… the new version comes out very soon!!

You can use the same code that is available on the Blogger CommentLuv download page.

As long as you’re logged in, you will see the code when you click the link below step 3.

If you already have a plugin that uses the jquery script then you can leave out the first javascript include. Just paste the rest of the code into your header.php and your js-kit will have commentluv installed.

I’m in the middle of moving right now but I will try to get some time to create a special Wordpress/Js-kit plugin so it eases the installation a bit. Let me know through the support ticket system if you encounter any problems.

That got me playing with the commentluv code again, the core code and the jquery bit too. The only way I can add any kind of styling to the commentluv link is by using allowed html. If I try to use a span or class= in any of the text I append to the comment content at the time of submitting then Wordpress will strip it out. This is why I use abbr em tags to enclose the whole link, it’s the only way I can style the link and also identify the link to add the information box by javascript.

I have changed the filter from preprocess_comment to pre_comment_data and lowered the priority to 10 which will hopefully allow akismet to see the comment data before CommentLuv gets it’s paws on it

Along with doing this, I found a way to replace the abbr and /abbr tags with a span class=’cluv’ so styling of the link will be MUCH easier. This happens with the get_comment filter during display time. The content still has abbr em in the database.

On the javascript side, I have fixed the problem of placing the commentluv badge and pull down box on an ID outside the comment form.

I was about to finish the post here but I remembered something else I needed to do and that’s store the options that have html in them or single or double quotes in a better way depending if someone has magic quotes on or not.

I was just about to release version 2.66 with these changes but I have discovered a different way to do the info box and I’m going to play with it some more so it works much better. Typical for me, see one thing and turn it into a mountain of others!

It’s looking good for the future of the CommentLuv plugin and site, I talk to the developers on Wednesday and hopefully this month will see some API testing and some site functionality

To go along with all this extra hard work, the CommentLuv site is being developed into something bigger and better too. There’s also work going on for the new plugin for wordpress and blogger.

All these things will take some juggling this week before I can get them all into some sort of order so please be patient while it all goes on. Here’s what is happening;

The Happenings

CommentLuv API testing : To increase compatibility and open up the option for new platforms to be supported and for existing platforms to integrate CommentLuv functionality within themselves.

site testing : New site, new issues! existing users will have their accounts transferred to the new site and testing will be done to make sure it all works as intended.

new plugin development: New version, new features. This will happen along with the API testing.

Soft launch site: when everything looks ready for the off, I’ll activate the new site and new users will be able to register. Existing users will be switched on to the new site.

blogger plugin update: the new API will be given it’s real life test on the blogger version.

wordpress plugin update: once blogger is happy, the new WP commentluv will be updated on the codex ready for updating through users dashboards.

Official launch: bells and whistles and maybe a firework or two.

old version switch off: sometime in the future I’ll have to stop supporting older non-ajax versions of commentluv. They’re such a pain and drain on resources!

all of this of course, is liable to change and fluctuate. I have a new job to do and there’s a promenade next to the sea near here and lots of trees and scenery to look at. And it’s quiet at night, and, gosh! it’s DARK too. Haven’t slept this well since I was a wee one.

The UnMom is just one of those blogs that urges you to read past the first page and see what other magic it can show you. I had a great time reading about her random Tuesdays and laughing out loud at some too-funny outbursts.

Keely Tyler is the Unmom! and I just had to ask her some questions now that she’s a CommentLuvver and her answers had me lol’ing again….(complete with original red typeface)

Your site says you are The UnMom but, who are you really? What do you write about and why?
Call me old-fashioned, but I was raised to believe it’s impolite to ask a super heroine to reveal her secret identity.

Also, sometimes I write about exercise and dieting and why it sucks.

You have a thriving community of commenters on your blog, what do you do that attracts so many people to join the conversation?
I leave witty and insightful comments on a ton of other blogs. Sometimes it tricks people into following me back, and then I tie them up with duct tape and distract them with puppies.

You can post subjects from Zombies to poetry, how and where do you get your inspiration from?
I like to play along with a lot of memes (like the Spin Cycle and Friday Fill Ins) because my dirty little secret is that my own life is phenomenally BORING. The zombies are my kryptonite – I think I posted about them once in a pathetic attempt to endear people to me, and it just kind of grew. Now it’s like someone who thought penguins were kind of cute when she was 19, and made the mistake of voicing that opinion, and 15 years later she is still getting penguin-themed gifts for every occasion. Not that that’s ever happened to me. It was a friend.

Oh, right, inspiration. Uh, sometimes I just keep talking.

If you could go back in time and give your pre-blog self some advice about publishing to the internet, what would it be?
Do it sooner. How did you even live before internet strangers validated your existence with their comments??

Your blog was established and successful before you installed js-kit and commentluv, what caused you to change from the blogger commenting system, how hard was it to do and what difference (if any) have you noticed?
I found that I got a fair bit of traffic from commenting on sites with commentluv installed, especially if my post title was intriguing (or flat out weird). So I wanted the people commenting on my site to get the benefit of that, however dubious it may be coming from MY blog. It’s only been installed for a few days, so I haven’t noticed any difference. Except, y’know, now the comments show their last post. Obviously.

Now, it uses a different way of choosing your last post. Instead of an ugly pull down box, there’s now a fancy slide down box..

And a new info box which keeps open so a user can explore your other posts or where else you have commented..
