I tried the new Office 365 when it was announced, and it looks really slick! You're probably right that MS just wants to make sure people keep using Office at home/school so they don't bring Apple or Google to work with them.

I agree that none of the big players have a decent relational data solution (Google has Fusion Tables for really large data sets, but it doesn't have good relationship handling).

If you look carefully at what Microsoft is giving away though it really is still just a teaser and you only get all the power when you hand over your wallet. I still think Google gives you more bang for free, because the additional features you get for paid subscriptions are back-end features, for the admins, the end-users (consumer and business alike) get everything for free (except additional storage).

PC World did a good comparison of the additional free features vs. the full paid feature-set in the new Office 365.

The subscription model has existed for quite some time though, at a certain size companies just subscribe to annual licenses from Microsoft. The reason the employees seem stuck one or two version behind is corporate IT departments take that long to roll-out the new version to the employees. And by then the next version is available to consumers. Microsoft may be trying to push the subscription threshold lower and lower, maybe even to the consumer level. But at the corporate level it has existed for many years.

If you are buying apps on your device it's because you trust the platform and are using it more. You are therefore more tempted to pick it up to look something up. I am not saying that none of the Android users do this too, but these results do seem to correlate that more often than not Android users simply treat their devices like phones.

I understand that Apple users are bigger spenders, after all they're trained with the app store and the phones cost more to begin with. I wonder why that relates to web engagement, it shouldn't have a correlation.

The problem is still that mobile browsers are a pain to use. Inconvenient auto-zooming, placement of 'popups' are all reasons we flocked to apps in the 1st place.
You're welcome, and you're right. Unfortunately I didn't have as much time with Snap Camera (or A Better Camera) but since the review I've been using it more and more (it's my primary camera now). The interface is very nice and leaves all the space for taking pictures, I just need to watch out for my big fingers (which is why I tend towards interfaces with big buttons).

Hi, I'm the developer of Snap Camera, glad you like my app. If you don't like using the long press and slide to access settings you can bring up the menu by tapping top left or bottom right (in landscape). Then you just tap on the setting you need, no sliding necessary. Thanks for the review.

Was auto-awesome turned on before you uploaded the images?

The thing with auto-awesome is it's automatic, you don't have control - but you can encourage it! For sequences, panoramas, HDR, moving object removal, or smile aggregation make sure the timestamps and geo-location are present, correct, and close together.

From my understanding iMessage does a much better job weaving the SMS messages into the thread.

I know iMessage is more tightly integrated with iOS so I expect a little better UX there - not that Android couldn't have the hooks to do it and I think they're available in 4.4 KitKat so we'll have to see if the situation improves.

But I'm pretty sure iMessage doesn't allow you to send an SMS from your iPad or laptop/desktop by bouncing off your iPhone. So in that regard it's just as good/bad as Hangouts.

I've never saw TouchPad before!

After this post, i've installed it and im amazed with this keyboard.
I have to say cause i've used all the keyboards mentioned here, Swype, SwiftKey, Android default and others, but TouchPal is so far better!

Smooth, fast and functional!
The only thing i miss is the capability of write in 2 languages at the very same time without have to change the dict.
Anyway, i can survive without it =D

Cheers! ^^

Being the #1 free app in the first few weeks of release is actually a very easy feat that is quickly dismissed.

What's much more difficult and harder to dismiss is the fact that Skype is still in the top five several years after it was released. WhatsApp is still in the top 10!

Short-term number of downloads and activations are meaningless figures. Especially for free apps that are easily installed (and un-installed). Much more interesting will be to see where BBM is in a month, 6 months, and a year from now.

I wish app stores showed current installations and active users rather than download counts.

I’ve been using https://www.portalpanel.com/ for few months and I found it more interesting and useful than all other iGoogle alternatives. Its simple home page allows you to bookmark your favourite websites and links in separate folders which makes it very neat and clean. Besides, you have control on some of your social networks, like Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, as well as Yahoo weather. You can also get the latest news you are interested in delivered right to you, by its RSS reader. The latest update for Portalpanel brings Google Bookmarks import feature, so one can easily import his old bookmarks into PortalPanel.
It works safely (HTTPS) and perfectly in different browsers and I would suggest to make it your homepage and enjoy its simplicity.

PS I actually quite liked their slogan: “One Page to Rule Them All”. It seems to be very true.

I guess I'm a fan berry for knowing your article is way off.
1.) BBM has 60+million blackberry users.
2.) Total BBM users is at 100+ million as of today. that's (40+million IOS and android users in its first week)
3.)BBM is #1 free app in play and itunes. No small feat to be dismissed.
I will stop there on that.

It's all about the BBM group where you can have multiple chats at same time, task list and calendar make event planning easy and simple. I have a friend using BBM group to plan wedding it is such a time saver and collaboration is much easier.

If you have need clarification I would be happy to assist.

There are many options if your portfolio is very simple. But long term analysis of portfolio performance is a problem if you trade different asset classes or have long/short positions as well as trade foreign stocks and want to see detailed statistics of your portfolio. Google finance is the best I have seen. Beatthebenchmark.net very good as well. I think that there is even more analysis available than in google.

I think Beatthebenchmark.net is pretty decent tool. I use Bloomberg myself but even Bloomberg doesn’t provide some functions available there. No intraday trading activity though, I think it only allows for daily portfolio evaluation, but that’s enough for me.

Just wanted to say thanks! This is fantastic, you've saved me a lot of work. Oh, and when I tweeted using a long URL that was already in YOURLS, it detected that and returned the existing URL rather than creating a new one. So that's wonderful.

Again, thanks for the post!

Thank you for sharing your story and best wishes. Thank you for adding to the awareness and support of cancer. I've written two songs, one about cancer and one about going through trials and looking back on them. Reaching out for support and help, and the joy of having come up through affliction. Here are the links I hope you find them connecting, and possibly helpful. Cancer Song-Not a Scarlet Letter: http://youtu.be/GcSJJoUHL_0 Scars In My Eyes: http://youtu.be/QT1S27bxFdk

What I really like about Aviary is the fact that you're not required to create an account and store your pictures with their company; unlike with Instagram where I would have to sign up for an account and store my photos with them, and THEN opt to share if I want to. I just want to edit my photos, in my phone, and then share them on facebook IF I want to, without having to worry about how many and which photos were uploaded to a third-party! Privacy-wise, Aviary is the better option and I really appreciate the professional editing tools it offers, including teeth whitening!!!

Personally I always hold off until the first Windows service pack is released before installing any version on my own hardware. That said, I have not owned a windows PC for quite some time now. I use me at work, but at home it's a whole other story.

Maybe Schultzter has some more clues as to why the install fails. Hopefully he'll give us an update soon.
