Review by Robert Evan Neilsen, Jr. for Technical Analysis for Dummies
Rating:
This is an excellent book for investors wishing to understand the theory of technical analysis trading, while acquiring tools to translate the theories into one's own trading strategies. The author's explanations are clear, her practical examples thorough and easy to follow, and her disclosures regarding the built-in limitations of any mathematical approach necessary. Ms. Rockefeller's Resources appendix suggest follow-up websites and texts from which to build on her text. I've read more theoretical approaches to this subject, but prefer her balanced text, setting forth the theories, but moving on quickly to practical considerations. The author is very honest about her own limitations but always points readers to the correct resources to resolve lingering questions. I recommend this book to traders of all levels as a resource to which they will enjoy returning.

For an introduction to technical analysis, read this book first. You won't need to read others. It is the most comprehensive, and easy to understand, book on technical analysis that I've read. Surprisingly, it isn't dry, either.

There is not enough info in this book to justify the price. Double spaced and about 90 pages. Also the review by super trader appears to be a plug by the author.

Ms Rockefeller has accomplished a difficult task. Take a broad topic and cover it in a comprehensive and concise manner. The author is a true professional and it shines through out her book from cover to cover. I have a small library of books on technical analysis. However, this is one book I pick up to re-read again and again. She gives a sense of realistic expectations one can rely upon technical analysis for and how to integrate the discipline into one's trading plan. The pros and con's of each aspect of technical analysis is discussed and highlighted. The material flows logically in clear easy to understand manner. This is an indication of an author who truly understands and has practiced the craft and communicates it effectively. I whole heartedly recommend this book.

This book is a general overview of the Forex market, including its history. All the information contained in the book is helpful, but it teaches neither the various economic factors that have fundamental effects on the currency markets, nor the technicals involving day-to-day trading. If I wanted to buy one book to get a general idea of what everyone is talking about, this would be it. It is also an easy read for a short afternoon.

If you've never heard of forex, never traded and lived with your head stuck in the sand since you were born then this is the book for you!

Every line is doubled spaced to make the book appear longer than it really is which is short, 96 pages, 82 excluding the glossary. It is the kind of book that a person with no knowledge of forex markets could write within a week and possibly do a better job.

In saying this I'm at page 43 and felt so disgusted and ripped off that I felt compelled to write this. Disappointment is not the word.

To be fair it's mildly interesting in parts but barely scratches the surface on anything it describes.

If you wish to be armed with enough jargon and basics to boldly open a forex account and not have a clue what to do, why look further? "Forex for Small Speculators" is the book for you!

In saying this I’m at page 43 and felt so disgusted and ripped off that I felt compelled to write this. Disappointment is not the word.

To be fair it’s mildly interesting in parts but barely scratches the surface on anything it describes.

If you wish to be armed with enough jargon and basics to boldly open a forex account and not have a clue what to do, why look further? “Forex for Small Speculators” is the book for you!

If you want to learn how to read the markets BUY THIS BOOK! I have been in the financial markets since '93 and have read dozens of books on technical analysis; I just wish this one was out ten years ago- because I would have saved myself a ton of time. This book is so simple to understand yet extremely insightful, I call it the "manual to the markets", because its methodologies are explained in detail and applicable to ALL markets. I trade currencies and now use a lot of Barbara's techniques. My favorite chapter is chapter 11 "Transforming Channels into Forecasts".If you are like me and need to know what the market is trying to tell you then this book is for you. A lot of books out there are heavy on math and light on descriptive illustration this one is the opposite, I cannot stress how easy this book is to digest...If you're a veteran or a newbie to the markets you'll be quite pleased with this one.

Rating:
Mark Whistler has done it again!!! I have purchased his other book, which I highly recommend as well, Trade With Passion and Purpose. Volatility illuminated is a very original and very refreshing book that I have read in a long time! His knowledge of the markets and his brilliant writing style are duly noted. If you are not willing to think outside the box and are content with the herd mentality then this book is not for you. But for those that would like to expand beyond the typical preset technical indicators and incorporate tools that properly reflect the uncertainty of today's markets and how to capitalize on it, then your search end right here. Mark is not your typical trader/author that base theories on back testing and hypothetical results, he has put his money on the line testing in real time. Not only that, he doesn't leave his readers hanging with doubts and questions. He thoroughly explain further with numerous examples in his free webinar that I was fortunate enough to attend on his[...] website. He devote all his time and passion to helping others and time is never fixed. For example, he spent 5 hours + of his time for free to help people with any questions on how to properly apply these methods. Now to me, that is dedication and that is rare to find nowadays. The price for this book doesn't justify the treasure of knowledge that is written in this book. Especially when you compare it with overpriced fluff books that flood the market on a monthly basis!

Usually I don't strongly criticize a book that has information you can find elsewhere. After all, I can find the complete works of Shakespeare and about thirty versions of the Bible for free on the Internet, but that doesn't make the paper versions worthless. But this book has nothing in it of any real use, certainly nothing to justify the outrageous price. We get the same tired old history of Forex that anyone can find on the 'net. And we get some terms defined. So far nothing that a beginner couldn't find in five minutes on Google. And there's a glossary in the back that defines those terms for you again, just in case you need refreshing. Other than that, there's nothing about technical or fundamental analysis; not even a chart. I'm glad I read this book in the bookstore. Thanks to the other reviewers for steering me clear of this worthless book. I'm very new to Forex, but I'm sure I could get enough info on Google in about two hours to write a book ten times better than this one.
