Colleen, that verse in Luke about leaving is what God gave Steve on a plane over 35 years ago when he left Memphis and family after High School-to never return to live. God gave beyond what Steve could imagine in new family members. When he recalls the names of people God brought into his life as a fulfillment of that verse he can't get through the list without tears. God is still fulfilling that promise for Steve. He spent this week with 50 young Pokot pastors and fell in love with them and wanted to pack them up to come work with him at Kensington. Tomorrow he's getting on a plane to see you, and God will fulfill his promise in S Africa. Steve will scoop you up as another of his daughters. We love you and are so blessed by your life.

I remember Sister Katie Gurzi very well.I spent 2 very fruitful years as a volunteer with Katie at Ngwelezane Hospital.Last week I met a gentleman who said he had been so impacted by that ministry that his whole life has changed for the good.Katie was not only a missionary, she was a champion for the rights of the sick to be treated with dignity and respect. Her impact and example of service for the Kingdom has left an indelible mark in my own life and that of others.

Love you Helen!! Love your updates and love the stories of all the men and women God used.... in their weakness. I remember a Major Thomas quote "any old bush will do." If God can speak through a bush, he can live and speak through us. Happy New Year!

what a beautiful piece of writing. love the metaphor of the curtain. remembering my time in africa, and it is so similar - this constant theme of the curtain falling. god brings that curtain down all the time, first with Jesus tearing the temple curtain in his death, and then over and over throughout history. your experience reminds me of the cold war, and the iron curtain that had been set up between two halves of the world, two ideologies, came tumbling down slowly but effectively, and allowed us to start seeing beauty in each other again, the way we can see beauty with god again, and him with us. this blog is so good because it is also helping me and others remove this iron curtain between africa and the US, to see gods work in both and to give a real picture of what it looks like as the two cultures come together through your internship. keep writing!
