A good post raising good points.

I've been interviewed on quite a few blogs, and have interviewed in return. I'm not sure there has been any marked results, but at least it's been extra publicity all round.

If anyone would like to be interviewed on my blog, with a return interview for me, please contact me.

Maybe Jen would like to participate???

I was most annoyed with Amazon a few weeks ago. My novel twice climbed into the contemporary romance best selling list in Canada. The second time it hit 25, but sold out ....

I wonder what it would have reached had it not sold out? As we all know, hype builds hype. It's faded into obscurity now, so maybe it was just one of those coincidences - a handful of people buying at the same time for some obscure reason - but I'll neve know.

You write one good post after another. Well done.

I'm desperately trying to 'reach out' to potential readership by blogging etc, but so far have only limited response. It's disheartening, but I suppose I just have to keep plodding on.

It's one of those things, similar to the lottery- if you don't buy a ticket you ain't gonna win!

I have to agree with what you're saying. I think a lot of companies out there are preying on the fact that mostof us have little success with our book sales and are looking for the 'Holy Grail'.

As you suggest maybe a few guarantees woudn't go amiss. I can't see it happeing though....

Another excellent post. I agree wholeheartedly. The theory is absolutely sound.

I just wish I could make the PR thing work for me. I run two blogs, each with new posts several times a week. I participate on Facebook, LinkedIn, Yahoo Answers, have Hubpages and articles on other sites, been interviewed on numerous other blogs, yet still my book doesn't shift.

I have good feedback from people who HAVE purchased, in Australia, South Africa, Canada, the US and the UK, yet no movement. I'd just like to know where I'm going wrong.

I'm not certain what the difference is between a media kit and a website.

I seem to have most of the things you talk about included in my web. Have I done this wrong? Should I have made the information as a seperate issue?

Thanks for the blog post.

Congratulations on launching your new eBook. It may be off to a rough start, but I'm sure sales will pick up. If I were you, I would continue to take advantage of the social media space in an effort to get out the word. Your future plans sound very exciting. Good luck with all of your projects, including your eBook!

For online marketing, the best things that have worked for me are guest posts on other people's blogs and press releases. I'm with you on not being too keen on article marketing, although I did it early on and had some success. Forums have also been good if you can find one that is in your niche. Best of luck.

In the case of a novel, that's actually not quite true. Domain names should be one of two things:

1. Keyword-rich for SEO / search, or
2. Brandable

Any smart author or publisher will put a lot of branding effort behind a novel - in other words, you build the visibility and make people recognize the title (and therefore search for it). Remember, that URL has to be adaptable and marketable through a variety of mediums (magazines and newspaper reviews to websites to being easily shared orally during radio interviews - a reason odd spellings, abbreviations, numbers, and hyphens should be avoided in something like a book domain name).

Keyword-rich domains are fine for a niche blog (like this one, where I've used one). But they would be rather inappropriate for a novel (although you might be able to make it work for a niche nonfiction book).
