Great post! It is so crazy to think about how far we have come with technology. Our students are so focused on this, this it has become essential to have it in the classroom. More and more jobs require that you are technology efficient, and I can't even imagine the jobs that haven't been thought of yet that will require it. Our students "college and career reediness" is learning how to use technology and all of the resources that it can offer.

Hi Beth,

I thought you brought up some very good points in this post. I am currently a middle school social studies teacher in Minnesota. I completely agree that we should be offering more technology and computer science courses to our students. As you said, technology careers are among the fastest-growing in the United States. We need to do a better job of preparing students for these careers.

Sometimes I feel that that way too much emphasis is put on preparing students for state standardized tests. There isn't that much time in a school day and most of it is used on the core subjects in preparation for standardized tests. I try to tie technology into my curriculum whenever possible, but there is much left to be desired. As our district transitions to a 1-to-1 device initiative, I hope to see more technology opportunities for staff and students alike.

I remember when this was all the craze. Sadly, as quickly as it went up, interest died down. They were smart to release it during summer time. They made some money and yes, it did have issues, but I think what new technology doesn't have some kind of glitch. Everyone should know, it's a risk you take with anything new. I think if people hadn't thought about that before, they definitely learned from this experience.
