Hello! We are a group of four students
living in Wolverhampton (20
minutes from Birmingham), and we are carrying out the Final Thesis in
Media and Communication Studies. Our project is
a TV Report (in English) of foreigners living in Birmingham. What we want is to contact people foreigners (not english people) that had been living a while in
the city and they can speak and show
in front of the camera the most
emblematic places and their
lifestyle, like showing us their favourite places.

We
would greatly appreciate anyone willing to participate. Of course we adapt to schedules.
It is not hard work, and we have some
idea of what we want to film.
We further believe that it would be a
good experience to meet new people and do something different. Of course there would be time to talk and explain everything inviting you to some drinks.

There might be some free parking spots in Brum CC but by 8am M-F till 6pm they are generally full.

They should change their name to something like The Prancing Pony or any of the placenames that were based on real places. Or they could use generic creature names such as Dwarf, Elf, Goblin, Troll or Dragon. Maybe they could re-name their shop The Chobblin’ Goblin!

It looks like this is both the new discussion point, and the place to make early nominations for BotY. As regards the latter, as I’ve just mentioned at Restirred, Captain Pushchair does more to enliven KH High Street than any other virtuoso member of the public.
So, when the nominations open sometime in 2012, I hope he’s still around and bringing small joys to the High Street.

I don’t think so. I’m looking to contribute reports to a variety of media, although I think it will be tough going.
Having said that, I went to a Birmingham City Council meeting today. The proceedings were not impressive. The issue of job losses at the BBC in Birmingham was debated, but there was a spat about whether the council had done enough to save jobs at the mailbox. In general, the council was critical of the BBC and its decision to reduce production at the Mailbox. But here’s the thing (without being defeatist), what can Birmingham City Council actually do about it?

No.
Birmingham’s problems are not due to there being no mayor. London’s problems were due to no GLC, and no central body representing the Greater London area. Now they have a Mayor they can coordinate transport and bids for major world events (Olympics, World Athletics).
In the same way, any attempts to stage such a big event are hampered by coordination between Solihul (Airport, NEC), Birmingham, Coventry and Black Country. If we had a West Midlands Mayor, that would make sense.

hi i am 71 now at 15 i work with engeneerers all around the city centre we were told itwas for the new birmingham tube like the one in london,later it came out it was for officals as is the norm not the poeple
