Haha I wouldn’t say the 3G is really old, as I was perfectly happy with mine (my contract was just coming to a close and I knew it would be difficult to get my hands on a new 16GB model of any sort when I came to my renewal) but as far as these reported issues go, they are quite overblown. I’ve not really had any problems with my iPhone 4. I think the only thing I can say that is ‘wrong’ with it is that the White balance gets screwed up when I take photos with the Flash on, but I suspect a software update will shortly iron this out. The antenna issue is also something I can replicate on my model, but not often, and only when really trying to make it happen. A software update is supposed to be fixing this shortly, but even still, I can’t get my phone to completely lose signal like other people report. Apart from that it’s fully functional, and that’s what I’ve heard from everyone else I’ve spoken to as well. So I’m certain it’s fine to buy one, as Apple Stores are reportedly being quite good about swapping/taking back phones, too.

The new iphone does look nice, I’ve got the really old 3G and i’m thinking of upgrading but I’ve heard there are problems with the 4G. I think I’ll wait a while =)

Found out what was causing the problem with the video tag; it was the Overflow I had set for the DIV. Safari videos work now, but I have to sort out the problems I’m having with the metadata and images flowing over into the next posts…

I agree. I do think that a lot of people WOULD pay. I probably would pay for a month, or buy an iPhone app or something (I bought a Twitter app, after all), but I don’t see myself buying a subscription to a social network, which will just be redundant in a few years. I mean, I wouldn’t even buy a subscription to a news outlet! But for a company with shareholders and investors like Facebook, a move that risky would be very unwise, especially when the current model is proving to be the better of them all (Lots of customers, no expense for them and lots of profit for the company); it’s how Google became so rich, after all.

Whist you do have a good point here, if Facebook is as popular as everyone makes out (and I do believe it is), then around 60% would pay for at least 6 months, if not more, out of the 12 in a year. If you do the maths, that would work out to just under the advertising costs.

They probably won’t, as you said. However, it’s more of a possibility than everyone thinks.
