found a rough and ready way to output a PDF of a book if you have photoshop - as I say it is rough and ready but would be OK for a proof and certainly to be sent on a disc to a customer/colleague

here how I did it
go into preview mode on booksmart and get rid of the page navigator - expand the image - I used a double page spread until it nearly fits the screen
hit the PrtScrn button ( PC) (mac, not sure) to put page in clipboard
go into photoshop
type Ctrl N for new file, choose clipboard as preset source then OK
type Ctrl V to paste clipboard into new file
crop if required
save as the page number you have copied
do this for all your pages - keep files open in photoshop
when all saved
File /Automate/ PDF presentation
select 'add open files'
select 'save as pdf presentation'
selct file name and make the font size as large as poss
click on Ok then give it a filename
when pdf choices come up choose PDF/X-3 etc - this is booksmarts choice for PDF files but this is probably not a good way to export a book - this method is only for proofing
click on Ok - you will then have a pdf file of the screen images of your book - with the file name at the bottom of each image
you could experiment with reducing file size so that the pdf file would be smaller but this would be at the expense of quality
This works with photoshop cs3

How about a fee based commercial account whereby we can pay a fee for the privilege of mass producing the books, since we use the services more than those who simply produce personalized commemorative books?

I am willing to pay a fee to gain better production rates, and still allow Blurb and me to share a profit, by selling the books more cheaply, resulting in greater sales volumes. My book is selling and I need to get a better production cost or, well, maybe fail.
